Good video for the younger generation to see what it was like to battle it out at the arcades. What a rush.

"Run It Back: Old Players Complaining About The Way It Used To Be"
They're complaining about how it is now.
I've only got a taste of what the community is like ever since I've join my first tournament back when Vanilla was out. But watching this, I still got more to learn. Arcades in MD are rare to find nowadays.
Even though I was born in 1991, same year that World Warrior came out, I've always wanted to be a part of this community, even though I was too young. I may have missed out of the greatness, but I would love to live this greatness again!
best video documentary about SF community bar none. im new school and even to me this was something i thought was good. two thumbs up to everyone involved.
This was entertaining. Let's talk about a few things, though: you could tell the Ken player wasn't going to be that great based on his gameplay footage of when was playing by himself at the arcade. Not to say he won't get better, but there was a certain oomph lacking in his gameplay and you could tell.
Also, I'd like to comment on their gamer faces. Why is it that pretty much everyone they showed playing at the Wednesday Night Fights had the this dumb look on their face with their mouth hanging open like a drooling moron? Seriously. Couldn't they have chosen even slightly normal looking faces for the cuts? You'd think all Street Fighter players looked like that.
The best part was where Valle and co. are discussing the plans for SCR and Potatohead is just sitting there playing Pokemon. XD
Oh, and also, I don't know if this was an issue for anyone else, but the audio levels seemed pretty damn inconsistent. Like, wildly so. Some scenes, I'd have to turn up the speakers, only to have the next scene explode its volume all over me. I know they are recorded at different levels, and considering the recency of some of the scenes, they probably didn't have that much time to edit, but especially early on in the video, they could have brought the levels to a happier medium.
Great video, and great insight into what goes on behind the scenes. Level|Up, appreciate everything you guys do and can't wait for SCR. I know it's gonna be so hype.
Audio consistencey was off
@SoCal's Set up

@Players covered
Jorge seems like a good kid, CalPoly Dude is alright just needs to put in more in real matches.
Chen is Chen AKA Mr.McAwesome(Can't wait to see if Sako VS Chen happens)
My only problem is they've covered players only pick main stays(Cammy and the original Shotos)
@Evo Grand Finals: I KNEW IT WASN'T G4's FAULT
Incredibly impressive. Making an hour-long feature is incredibly work-intensive (making a 10-minute feature is very work intensive) and they put it together in a few weeks based on the footage. I agree the audio wasn't as refined as it could have been, but for what this is, the director really needs some kudos. Given how many SF documentaries there are "awaiting release" or in "post-productions" (I'm waiting with bated breath to see how many actually come out), the fact that they rolled together a fairly tight narrative in a few weeks is really great. Really looking forward to part 2.
This video makes me sad. I wish this kind of community and hype existed everywhere, not just for those in Cali. but for people all across the US. It's unfortunate that where you live can sometimes be the ultimate inhibitor.
this was really good. I wasnt aware that people are really trying to grow this whole sf community thing, only in cali i guess.
lol i got the same experience as James Chen had... i thought i was the best player in my town and school (not undefeated but mostly i was beating everyone and always winning) and thought that i was on top form that i knew everything already in SF2... then suddenly someone from another town invade and challenge me to a fight and totally destroyed me... next thing you know i got invited on a tourny! ...god i miss the 90's!
I still think the arcade scene still stands a chance if people really show the passion for it. I mean sure there is online play but due to potential lag... Is it truly reliable?
I truly believe that if people from the old days want that rush of sheer competition at the arcades, we should put more of an effort to bring that scene back.
Good documentary. Luckily we still have an arcade scene in London but it won't be as big as the 90's. I only played Killer Instinct and Tekken tag in the arcade during the 90's. My mates had Street Fighter 2 on console.
There's a major hole in the introduction. The real reason Streetfighter died after Super was the 3D era. Whomever shot this documentary did a huge disservice by not mentioning VF and Tekken emergence.
Much respect to what Valle has accomplished. He is not a contender in the current scene.
Mad props for including a clip of that Ken Bogard interview at SBO. Funniest interview ever, good times.
Lol! Worlds Finest in Pico Rivera.I used to go that comic store every week to buy comics.i was cool with the owner. I used to see those guys play every week. I played a few times. I used to play at Commerce Arcade which was a few miles a way from them. We used to hear about how good those worlds finest players were. We wanted to challenge them with our best guys. im not sure if that did ever happened hard to remember it was like 17 years ago. wow
Valle represents the "old guard" mentality. He refuses to adapt to the current environment. The future of American competition is brighter through shared techniques and world exposure. A petty interstate rivalry will get us nowhere compared to Japanese competitors.
wow this dude hooks up the community with a quick doc on the upcoming SoCal Regionals and all anyone has to say is "crappy audio", "sorry choice of music". you guys are trash and i hope you stay locked inside your house. no need for haters on the scene.
just watch the vid or dont. you didnt pay anything so quit crying.
i enjoyed it. now im gonna own scrubs with the jaguar king online.
@49 I lived the Fighting game scene when 3D emerged. Virtua Fighter destroyed SSF2. Tekken Tag, DOA and SC were raging when SF3 came out. No one even farted at that game. This documentary glossed over that fact.
Wow.... well done. This video made me wish it was still the early 90s lol...Only if the arcade era could somehow be revived which is highly unlikely. Oh well... time to own peeps online with the sumo
@theunholy1978
I also lived the arcade scene during the 90's and SSF2 wasn't very popular among SF players to begin with so saying VF destroyed it doesn't mean much. On the other hand, SSF2T was a lot more popular than any VF ever was. SF3 isn't a good example either because, again, back then many SF players didn't like that particular game and most of them prefered the alpha series.
Granted, Tekken Tag and SC were popular, but by that time the vast majority of arcade players had already migrated to consoles and arcades were dying so you can't really say those games killed SF.
Great story, now I see what sht happens when the Socal Regionals takes place. It's amazing to hear about those legendary times... maybe this people could bring that back, it all depends unfourtanelly on marketing. If capcom invest the right resources, the community could come back, and MVC3 its the perfect oportunity. They just need to turn back the interest on the fighting scene. Im pretty sure technology somehow will evolve, maybe like some futuristic cabinets, or a facebook-like thing only for capcom fighters... the thing is that they need to make it look like the only thing again, like guitar hero did recently. Peace
