No Gene, no Phoenix, no Monster Hunter, Silver Surfer or Dr. Strange is really too bad. ESPECIALLY Gene. He is PERFECT for this game on so many levels.
And Cyclops is not a big deal, I like him, but he was not in MvC1 and I've never really had much fun playing him myself. In addition, His play style isn't very unique, especially now that Ryu has an aim-able hyper fireball.
I have a feeling we are going to see classic Mega Man(buffed up and modernized w/ stuff from MM9 & 10) next, possibly along with Zero(MMX4, like in TvC).

Cyclops has decreased immensely in popularity since MvC2... and really what role would he serve? All he can do is shoot his gay little eye beams and is decent at hand to hand. Waste of space!
That said, it surprises me they didn't add Loki. Not only do they need Thor publicity atm, but he would make for a great fighting game character... so many different ways you could interpret him into a game.

I'm kinda over it that phoenix wright isn't it in the game now that he is revealed to be in another crossover game with Professor Layton. But people who think he couldn't be in the game because he isn't a "fighter" are just not thinking outside the box. The makers said its all about mixing conventional with unconventional and Phoenix has a lot of fans (myself included) that would do anything to play as him again, especially since the Ace attorney series moved onto other protagonists.
He would seriously be the Deadpool of the Capcom side, shouting Objection, Hold It, and Take That as his Hypers to varying effect. He could use the Magatama and psyche-locks as a special attack or assist. Various major pieces of evidence or weapons throughout the game could be put to use or he could just do fisticuff melee attacks for all I care. He would look ridiculous and it would be awesome. Victory poses would include passing judgment on the opponent (guilty or not guilty).
Also Cyclops should be in the game, I dont care if they change his playstyle to not be a shoto guy, he's the man shaking hands with Ryu on the front of Xmen Vs. Street Fighter and it would be sad to not see the man return.
At least with this we know whose in it and who is not. I feel bad that Gambit didn't make the cut. He'd be awesome to fight with especially if he has a Lv3 Hyper where it would dish out serious damage. I also feel bad that X didn't make the cut either though I wish that either the original Mega Man or Megaman Trigger (Legends) join the fight.

It's funny how people always talk about small cast = competitive game and that is not true at all.
Players always find a way to make the game broken and after see the early builds of MvC3the game is far not be balanced at all. We have a lot of characters that are wasted slots like Hulk, Thor and Felicia.
As other member said if they want to add a character and make it powerful they can do it but they are lazy... just look at Amaterasu and all the modes and moves the character have and the same case with Dante.

I really want Megaman X to make the cut and Gambit as well. If X made the cut, then I would choose him as one of my teams.
I hope X get's chosen too. When X was originally "deconfirmed" by Seth, he said it was due to time constraints. Then there was a later announcement mentioning that they are looking to add some last minute characters which lead me to believe that X may still have a real possibility.

X strength can come from a variety of things. I see his advantange not really in projectiles, but a creative developer can add his increased agility and the use of various armors from the different series which were not all projectile based.
Plus in X6, he did use Zero's sword which would definitely add a new element to his potential gameplay. Not to mention they can add his ability to acquire other characters strenghths, probably similar to Rogue, if Capcom is creative enough to think like this.

Maybe they could take up 2 slots instead of all 3, so you get to select 1 giant and 1 character for assist. Also maybe the giant's wouldn't be as tall as they are in TvC either. Take Juggernaut's size and scale him up a bit.

For anyone wondering who Magma Dragoon is he is from MegaMan X4 and he literally says hadouken and shoryuken while doing those exact moves. Yes fellow event hubs followers people really want more movesets like that in the game. Vile (insane amount of projectiles and the infamous mech), Sigma (triangle wall hopping, teleporting, projectiles of all sorts. He has done so many things it is tough to say what he would end up doing), and Bass (Could fly, collected powers like Megaman, and could shoot diagonally, not to mention he also has a dog Treble that could do things akin casshan's dog)all could be very interesting.

Not only do Resident Evil and Devil May Cry have PLENTY of it, but I'm pretty sure some of Marvel's stuff does too. Also, yeah Felicia looks anime-ish. I think squirrel girl,man-thing and ptx are cornballs characters hands down hopefully they don't make it in the game. I want to see rival school characters though and def some power stone characters that was a good game on the dreamcast! On the marvel side cyke has to be in it just like mag was!

Hulk at max heigh(which it seems to be going for) is 8 feet a foot and a half difference from Cain Marko(Juggernaut), Apocalypse's default height is 7 feet, Ultron is 6'9

Why are they terrible examples? 'Servbot is low tier' isn't a reason. And 'they were made for these games' doesn't justify the schoolgirls thing.

@67 & @71: About Jin, what I heard is that creating something like Jin's Blodia train (?) is much more difficult due to the MT Framework engine.
As for Captain Commando, not only would they have to remodel him, but they would also have to remodel Jennety, Sho, & Hoover as well, & that will take a lot of time & work.
I think that was why Crimson Viper was considered as a replacement for CC, because why take more time & energy to remodel 4 different characters when you could remodel just one character? That's like trying to remodel the Fantastic Four in this game, & that's why Super Skrull was being put in to have all four of their powers rolled into one.
That's my opinion. He's my favorite character as well, but due to what I just explained, I don't think that he'll be in this one.
So Cyclops still has a little chance to be in.

Don't get all this hate on the roster. They said they're trying to appeal to everyone by bring in old MvC2, newer popular characters post MvC2's launch, and a few awkward (a lot of people love oddball characters like MODOK and Arthur). It's inevitable a lot popular characters from MvC2 would not make it...there's simply too many cool characters from all the universes. I lost a few hopefuls, but Im seeing some really cool characters i would've never guessed and I'm fine...if anything this game looks a HELL of a lot more diverse in it's game play than anything I've ever seen out of the versus series, and Im not just talking characters, but the moves and usage. MODOK, Arthur, Spencer, and Ryu look COMPLETELY different in hot they play and combo. I like this.
As for Howard the Duck...I think thats about the only character that would make me board the hate boat...is this a joke in revolt to the list or is their actual evidence of this, cuz I will sh-t a brick.

So many great characters turned down. It makes me wonder what they have up in dev. Theres so many characters i would love to see that its just a waste of time nameing them. THe only thing im curious about is if they add any chargers(cmon now, capt america and guile on the same time is magic). They have had chargers in past games but they were always at a disadvantage and taking bison and makeing scissor kick a motion move just doesnt feel right.

The only game you can talk about that proves your point is pretty much grand theft auto san andreas. The game was genius and everyone loves it but the game portrays a black man doing things thats just aint right if you know where i coming from?

There is so much d**k riding on this forum it's starting to look like an orgy. The only deconfirms im mad about is MMX and Gambit, while I did'nt think he would make it, hearing the deconfirm this early makes me very said, I used Gambit as one of my mains in MVC1 with Chun Li. I'll be happy if they put back Mega Man Classic though, he was pretty cool.
To be honest I don't care, the new characters in the game look really cool and honestly look more appealing than the returning characters. Characters like Magneto and Doom seem like former shadows of their old selves. Dormmamu and Amaterasu (I played as them in chicago) are very interesting, only reason why I don't care about Dante and Deadpool is because everyone is D**K riding them. I might pick MODOK out of spite.
For now Im theroy fighting to see who is gonna replace my Iceman and Psylock for team Hulk from MvC2 and so far Ammy is the next pick of the liter (No pun intended).

Lame to you is not lame to others. Many gladly welcome Arthur, Tron Bon, Viewtifull Joe and MODOK (MODOK now that they've seen how fun he looks gameplay wise).Others don't give a crap about Gambit (like me!).
MvC2 is old. Very old in game years. Capcom and Marvel franchises have changed drastically. Characters (like cyclops and storm) have dropped severely in popularity. MvC3's roster will reflect that whether you like it or not.
It is a battle between popularity and gameplay possibilities. Popularity wise gambit isn't the hot **** he used to be (used to be almost as popular as wolverine now he's still popular but there are MANY other characters with more fans who have yet to get in). Gameplay wise he isn't anything special or outstanding... nothing whacky, fun, or surprising to do with him like with MODOK and Arthur.
So he won't be in. That simple.
And thats what it comes down to.
Assuming that is the real roster, it looks great (I still don't like Frank West mind you... not many people do from what I can tell), but why Spider-woman? Do you know if it's Jessica Drew or Julia Carpenter, Cornwad? They have very different powers. I hope it's Jessica Drew as we don't need 3 web based characters (Spidey, Venom, Spider-woman AND a guy with a grappling arm). They could do cool things with her pheromones. And Julia is called Arachne now, anyway, and not Spider-woman.
It's going to be so hard to pick only 3 characters out of Chris, Wesker, Dante, Trish, Megaman, Zero, Venom, Spencer, She-hulk and Howard the Duck ;).

i think characters that at least. were playable twice before mvc2 should be playable in this game. characters like gambit ken cyclops psylocke storm bison blackheart. shuma gorath etc. it sucks that marvel and capcom are splitting characters that most of us used for over 15 years. im glad new ones are coming and all of them aren't announced yet but capcom should get to it and let us know the final roster soon and announce who they have in mind for dlc characters if we get any. i know this game is going to be so good and it sucks that some other fans might not get one classic character they loved using before.

Lol, no the 90's were f'in terrible for many comic fans. Others liked them sure (everyone has their own opinions) and of course the 90's had it's great comic moments. BUT overall 90's are considered one of the worst decades for comics.
Now TV shows based off comics... oddly enough the 90's was a great year for those!

Yes the 90's was amazing for animated super hero shows, but a terrible time for comics. Comic's weren't selling in the 90's so they decided they'd make characters "trendy" by either giving super heroes long hair or turn them from white to black... somehow...
The uncanny x-men #300 was my first comic book ever. I bought two of them. One to read and the other is still sealed up. I bought it because of the cover, it attracted me so much.

I people tend to complain that he plays like ryu. I think that opinion is completely retarded...he plays nothing like ryu....normals are completely different...and even the similar looking moves like upercut and tatsu...have completely different properties and applications in both strategy and combos.
Also, just like they have tweaked some of the returning character's moves..they could tweak his as well...i would add more reflective qualities to his directional super..make it bounce off walls as well as the ground..things like that.
As far as Popularity. Cyclops has never been a terribly popular character...but then...Thor has never been terribly popular...nor has modok...or even X-23..so he should be in...at the very least..within the X-men universe...cyclops is a very big deal these days...plays far more of a role in the comic book world and is more relevant to the Marvel universe than he has ever been.
Plus capcom seems to want him in....clearly they feel he is a viable character....but it seems as though Marvel is blocking him from being in the game...which makes no sense.
and all this talk about how his play style is too much like the shotos...the fact that Capcom is trying to go for more unique playstyles in this game....and they wanted him in...is proof he is no shoto..at least not in the eyes of Capcom he's not....if they wanted him in..its because they felt i had something to offer to the game....shame on you Marvel.....

ALMOST(Aka not all but more then 70%) no character who came out in the 90's are around today, and half of the comics that were started in the 90's also aren't brought up today or canceled within their first 12 issues except rare cases like Spawn(Who's IMAGE comics and has gotten multiple award winning spin-offs) and Team books like Thunderbolts(which makes me want Jolt or Songbird if not Eric O'Grady in here) survived the 90's.
Cyclops shouldn't be in, as a comic book fan and as a cyclops player in MVC2 who uses him a decent amount(Cyc's HP optic blast, the one you can spam was great for sutffing normal viper beam and Cable's hand gun and Cyclone kick to get and also get a few nice combos) I wouldn't mind if he was gone unless cable was back with his fully broken MVC2 self. I see no reason for Scott, he's not popular beside and beside his one charge move(which I love especially if you can get it off against a Rush down Ironman or Magento) his move is basically like an alterted shotos with a flash kick like normal

Dude I totally agree. If anything, MVC3 would have been PERFECT for Rival School characters! I'm also pissed that Power Stone characters wont be allowed in the game. This would be there PERFECT chance to make a crossover, but no, of course Capcom wont give us what we want.
