Cross_Castle noticed that IGN posted the full interview they conducted with Capcom VP, Christian Svensson. This doesn't delve into the fighting game arena very much, but it briefly touches on the subject of piracy on the PC platform and Street Fighter 4.IGN: There was a report saying Super Street Fighter IV was canceled for PC due to piracy. Lost Planet is just coming out on PC months after the release of the console versions while Dead Rising 2 was day-and-date with consoles. What's your PC strategy?
Svensson: Street Fighter producer Yoshinori Ono has a whole bunch of requests from a whole bunch of people for bringing content out, and while he works on Street Fighter, he also runs the online team in Tokyo, so he has a whole bunch of things pushing on him.
In the near term, the discussions about PC on Super Street Fighter IV, as soon as they rolled off of the game, they were immediately lighting up Tekken X Street Fighter and the 3DS version of Super, so there were no resources available.
I'm not sure where the piracy discussion came in, although I actually provided the data that Ono threw out. I would look at it differently. When I presented this to the board, my take was, you can look at this and say, 'Oh my God, that's a whole bunch of money we somehow gave up,' or you can look at that as 'Wow, there's a whole lot of people really interested in our content, we need to figure out a way to protect it in a way we can monetize some of that.' That's really our challenge for the future and something we have ongoing discussions on and that's not just specific to Street Fighter.
Moral of the story:
Stop pirating games and making it bad for the people who legitimately obtain their copies.
This is exactly what I was saying before. It's not a matter of piracy eliminating the profit-making potential of PC SSFIV, it's a matter of resources. Sure, they could make a tidy profit with a port, but they could have the same people working on something else and expect a larger return.
I haven't entirely given up hope by the way. But I think they'll at least get the Arcade Edition and AE DLC out first, and that'll take another several months. I can't get any kind of hype over that long a wait with no official announcement.
I don't know. Steam seems pretty successful to me.
"...we need to figure out a way to protect it in a way we can monetize some of that."
Do NOT USE the most idiotical piece of software ever released onto humanity, Games for Windows Live, and your money shall arise.
@8 Why? Consoles are just branded, locked hardware PCs anyway.
Well atleast its some news on a sunday. I hope you pc owners do get super.
Just release PC version and stop yankin us already guys.
@kirbykirbykirby
nice of u man for hoping for pc owners..
@ oohlookamonster
Not everyone has Steam nor can they use it.
@ kisan
I don't think you realize the amount of work left that is non-balance related to make the PC version.
Make your shovelware WORTH the purchase price then people might be willing to pay for it, Crapcom.
Just a thought...
When SF4 was ported to the PC they already stated that it wasn't so simple because the arcade doesn't have the online component. Considering online is extended in Super I'd image it would take some time to port.
The piracy argument is ridiculous, people who pirate the game can only play offline and probably wouldn't buy the game anyways if you couldn't pirate it. Or they might dl it and find out it's pretty good and buy it after all to play online.
GfWL deserves more blame since you can/could buy any cheap ass game and register another with it.
I want this game for PC because the graphics are way sharper and you can play wherever you want if you have a laptop. I'll probably end up buying a 3DS just to get Super.
A bunch of curious/nostalgic PC gamers pirated this game because it was Street Fighter. Everybody knows Street Fighter.
After they realized that they could only play single player and with friends at home (if they even had 2 controllers for their PC), most of them dropped the game because basically nobody enjoys playing vs. a computer in a fighting game all the time. Unless they are like 5 years old.
I hope they create some better way to protect their stuff so SSF4 can come PC, but I have little hope of that. Time is going by and they are real busy. IMO though the reasoning behind not making a PC port is pretty weak, and really disappointing to any legit SF4 fan who only has a PC and now can't play the sequel because of this knee-jerk decision. I mean the title that was above SF4 was what, MW2 or some BS, and they kept doing what they're doing, and making profit. I realize SF is a smaller franchise but they clearly made profit last time didn't they?
@8
I second this. I know people love their PC's but if you really want SSF4 the only way your gonna get it now is on a console.
It's not THAT bad, you can get a cheap 360 for like 200 dollars or so. Get a stick which will cost you 100 at least no matter what you choose to play it on. And boom, your set.
Because the way I see it, the PC version ain't coming out for a very long time. Get in while the gettins good.
hope dies last.. and exactly that sucks
