The Super Street Fighter 4 development team posted a few notes about the upcoming costume patch that will be available on October 26th, which have been summarized below.• SSF4 will auto update after you start it on Oct. 26, if you're connected to the internet — at least in Japan. Dates for other countries haven't been officially stated yet, but it should be around the same time.
• The development team warns that the patch is going to be a big download.
• If users do not purchase the new costumes, and you use one of them for your character, it will appear as one of the defaults [originals], you'll also get a message telling you the costume does not exist.
• On the Xbox 360, there will be a 'download catalogue' option to make the new outfits visible without buying them. The first three costume packs will be available for this mode on Oct. 26, and another download will be posted on December 21st which contains the last four packs. There was no word of this being available for PlayStation 3 users.
The last part of this article is a little sketchy, about deconfirming Elena and Ingrid. I tried to say as much in the write up, so please take that part with a grain of salt.
It's a point of interest, in my opinion, so I included it in the story, even though it's a bit ambiguous. Take it as you will.

I think rolento is pretty much the #1 demanded character, so I think the last 3 spots are the ones to be debated. Perhaps hugo will make the cut, if so I'd be pretty happy with that. Urien and rolento would be good picks for me.

@25 Do you use her in 3S? Nobody used her in 3S. She got destroyed in 3S. She would be pretty lame in this game too. Her stage was the best thing about her, otherwise she was very bland outside of her moveset which was pretty lame and repetitive. I mean, she looks cool when you watch someone play as her for the first time... but after the novelty wore off of her breakdancing capoiera shenanigans you realized what a waste she was, even in 3S.

I adore Elena. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love her. She's one of the sweetest characters in the SF series.
Be that as it may, I really, REALLY don't want to see her in SSF4. This game will just tarnish her, give her low health simply because she's a girl, make her fall victim to its extreme sh*ttiness. All the SF3 characters in SSF4 have suffered a complete disservice to their original selves, it'd be a great insult to put Elena in this game. She deserves better than that piece of sh*t.

Charlie would be cool if he wasnt a clone. THe prob wit that is thats exactly what he is. Hopefully if they do include him they change him up. Maybe during the time he was missing he learned some new moves. So he would have the sonic boom and flash kick but now he has something new. Otherwise he would be a waste of a character.

It's been discussed in the comments before, it would be pretty easy to make Charlie less of a clone. Give him his Alpha 3 Dash (maybe as a command to differentiate it from IV's universal dashing), Knee Bazooka followup, Crossfire Blitz as a super, Somersault Justice and Sonic Break as Ultras I and II, and Marvel 2's Moonsault Slash. He'll be a MUCH more offensive character if he has these moves, less damage and longer recovery on Sonic Boom and Somersault Shell, and a non-charge super to cancel into. Maybe 50 less stamina, too.
The ONLY and I mean ONLY way to kill the Army of Ryu's online is NOT for Daigo to now use him...

Ono promised you nothing. This 6 characters rumor was started by an American arcade operator who speculated 6 new characters. From there raw speculation has somehow turned into expectation.
Yun and Yang will be the only brand new characters. If there are any more to be added, I'd say 2 more at the most, and of the Evil Ryu/Shin Akuma/Shin Gouken variety. You're not gonna get a new character model at this point in the game.

Ryu DID get nerfed from regular to Super, now you're just trying to make him unplayable.
People pick Ryu because he's familiar, and he has an easy solution for every situation. Opponent jumping in or too close on wakeup? Shoryuken. Opponent full-screen away? Hadoken. Getting kinda close to the corner? Air Tatsumaki.
His tier status is regular IV is debateable, but he was far from the best in the game, and aside from top-level players who made him work, he wasn't dominating tournaments. Ryu is by no means god-like status, never was. People picking him has little to do with the actual game itself. At this point, if you are still losing to Ryu then you should go back and re-evaluate your own gameplay.
There are 35 characters in the game, 37 if we could Yun/Yang, and even the low-tiers are fairly competitive. It's not the developers fault if the players only pick certain characters.
I hope they put in ELENA!!! thats really the only fighter I want to see in the game. If shes not in it... I probably wont get the dlc and will be happy to keep playing with Juri. I dont know why , but Elena was always such a cool fighter and we need a Capoeira fighter in Street Fighter !!!! Please let her be in. I only ask for that and NOTHING ELSE lol.

Before SF4, when we look up videos we pretty much seeing the games played a tournment and high level, ppl who were some good were the only ones posting vids. If yall can remember or was old enough to remember, SF3 did not plan to have ANY of the orignal cast in the game, Ryu and Ken included, but a strong outcry of fans got them in the game.
Ryu could be crap he still will be the most played regardless of his "tier" amongst the majority of the fans the casuals, Ten years later from now, when that audience is gone from this game the remaining Hardcore will pretty much just pick the high tiers, whoever it is just to stay competitive.

Ryu takes MUCH more skill to use in SF3 without the shortcuts and auto-corrects that favor him in SF4.
Not to mention parrying leaves him WIDE open.
Also with air parry, juggling into a super is not an option for him.

After thinking for awhile I started thinking... what if the message that Ono is getting at by asking for a phone number means that the characters aren't home because they are in the Game ?? Think about it.... If Hugo is in the game... Poison is probably with him atleast as a valet (she wouldnt be home). Elena, who almost made the cut the first time due to popular vote, could possibly be in the game too(shes not home, she could be busy being developed for the game). Of course, this IS just my own speculation ( in desperate hopes that elena is still in lol) but......... IS IT POSSIBLE? Leave me a response... Ryu and Ken have Always been popular Characters among any SF series. So there is no doubt there is a high percentage of shoto players becuase I think they are the most recognized of any fighting game series.
I on the other hand loved played Unique characters , When SSG2 came out I played nothing but Fei long. Then the alpha series came out Guy Gen rolento and eventually Karin. SSF4 Fei, Gen, Makoto, guy and a little gouken. his style is nowhere near Ryu and Ken. Sure he has a a fireball game but that is still different with its angled fireballs.
it would be nice to see Karin and Rolento in AE. Elena would be and interesting character as well with her Caporia style. Anyway more unique characters would be great.

#2 their anti-air dragon punches didnt juggle or the follow-up could not be juggled
#3 Their Ultras were as difficult as Dee Jay's Climax Beat
#4 Shortcuts were ommited. (You used to be able to telegraph a dragon punch) now they can hide it while they crouch.

Ok, First... Just because you dont like playing Elena or because you dont see a lot of people playing doesnt mean that she isn't a main character. Thats like saying nobody likes to play Ibuki, Juri, Gen, Hakan, Makoto, and half of the other fighters on the current roster now! Hell, 75- 80% of the time I play SF4 vanilla & SSF4, people either play only Shoto characters. Thats online and offline play. I'm not bitching about it (so do not misinterpret this) I am only stating a logical fact.
Second....Elena almost won a popular vote to be in the game to begin with. Street Fighter III was a great game no doubt. BUT Capcom dicked around too long with iteration after iteration of Street Fighter games that when Street Fighter 3 finally DID come out... the arcade scene had SEVERELY DIED DOWN. That and there was a LOT of players who did not like the change in cast. It wasn't until later that people began to accept the new changes in characters. Why do you think they had to bring back Ken, Ryu, and Chun Li?

When any new character is annouced Capcom needs to ask it self 2 questions. How does this character deal with Ryu, Akuma and the other Top Tiers second are they gonna be fun to use.
To get around the fireball shenanigans that were NOT in any other SF game after SF2 Elena will have to have that slide of hers go under fireballs clean. And have Rhino-Horn leap over Fireballs. EX ver. invincible

Also people pick Ryu because he is the main character and is easy to play with. There are so many players out there that started with Ryu and moved on to other characters. Ryu isn't even that good of a character. People should be glad when they see a Ryu in ranked it just usually means another easy win. You should know all of his moves by now!
OT: I'm pretty excited to see whats in store for Street Fighter. It's pretty much my favorite game and I really enjoy playing. (Winning more than losing, but that is part of the game)

My personal opinion is I think Elena would fit rather well.... atleast better than some other characters (cough *Hakan,Makoto,*)But there will always be low tier characters. I just want to see other FIGHTING STYLES than characters that are overly similar. I guess thats why Juri was such a welcome to the cast. Sure shes a low tier character, and shes not the strongest, and probably wont ever be a tournament winner......BUT she is unique in her fighting style. I want to see that same Diversity in other characters. I don't care to see Charlie (clone GUile), or Evil Ryu, or another Shoto character. Hell Yun and Yang are too similar. But atleast characters like Elena offer DIVERSITY. And a game that is based on world warriors...We need characters that show it.

these characters have no other characters of similar playstyle.
vega, dhalsim, chun, ibuki, juri, hakan, viper, fuerte, guy.
not to mention even the shotos aren't quite played the same way. there is a noticable difference between sagat, ryu, and akuma playstyles.

Fact V- He doesn't get the FINAL decision and it's the sole person apart of the production of the game.
I do not see this as a definite Yes until there's more concrete information. No one really knows and if she doesn't get it, well what does that tell you about Capcom? Ranked Matches mean jack squat at this point since its just a noob/scrub hive. Playing Ranked in a sense hurts all our skills because we grow accustomed to non-tournament play. Endless is where its at.

I just don't understand this need for diversity when the game is plenty diverse enough as it is.
there's tkd, karate, muay thai, some capoeira with dj, shotokan, lucha libre, wrestling, grappling, street/brawler type with cody, jkd, boxing, sumo, and whatever style vega uses.
i really don't mind them reusing some of these styles, but in a different way aka balrog and dudley, zangief and abel.
No one really cares about those other fighting styles you mentioned so why even put them?
I got a feeling these character's will be in as DLC; Rolento, Alex, Karin, Hugo and Elena despite Ono's comment. And If they make the cut, than I'll be looking forward to Rolento and Alex the most.
Anyway, hopefully they improve on Alex. It would be cool if Alex were given 3-4 rekka style series throws in a similar vein to Abel/King/Darun but with a quick seemingly smooth combination of (QtrC, HalfC, 360) command motions through out.
Damage scaling would account for less damage per grapples[1-3 max] but if chained or linked together, it could take as much as a typical Zangief-1-motion-command-throw SPECIAL Move and yet allow room for mistakes. This may even encourage noobs to better themselves rather than predictably buffer a 360 motion from an obvious jump/wakeup state if you had to perform a QC or HC motion first then follow up with a 360 motion. For ex:
[(QCF+P/K) ~ (HCB+P/K) ~ (360F+P/K)] or [(HCF+P/K) ~ (360B+P/K)]; two example of smooth series throw SPECIAL motions. You could even buffer an extra (360+PPP/KKK) to cancel into a SUPER Move, which would account for two 360 motions.

Only thing elena would do is give makoto company at the bottom of the tier list so why bother with her. All this "popularity" seems to come small very loud fan base. We need characters that could put dents in the tiers and offer something new, not someone thats just gonna pad other characters scores.
Rolento and Alex are more likely...Capcom loves grapplers and he's the main character for 3rd Strike. =P
Also, Dudley's transition into the game has been very solid, as high level players have beaten some of the best Ryu's in the world with him. We don't know enough about these new iterations yet to fully compose their utmost potential. It's the same stuff where Viper came out and she was labeled crap, that is until someone did something good with her.
You know after skimming these comments, I'd rather have JUST the balance patch considering everybody plays Shotos and the new characters won't matter. Ryu/Ken/Akuma are so 7/11...same sh1t everyday.
Ryu isn't overpowered but that ridiculous reversal window, hit trade ultras and lack of air blocking in SSF4 makes him and anybody with insane start up invincibility wake ups have at least a better chance than majority of the characters.
I'm rather get my ass handed by people who deserve wins because of their dedication not because the game has casual friendly mechanics favoring certain characters.

His normals are where the problem is. Shave off some frames here and there so there more like kens/akumas. Gameplay mechanics do favor him but those arent his fault, thats something that capcom needs to look at seperately.

if capcom loved grapplers then why does thawk,hakan and makoto suck so much? How come the last loc test had abels slam dmg nerfed? I enjoy useing grapplers but alot of gameplay mechanics dont favor them so i think saying that capcom loved grapplers isnt all that true.

Am i the only one who wants Sean in the game. im happy with Yun & Yang in the Game but why are so many people Riding on R. Mika's Tits she wasnt that good of a character and was pretty much a cheap character in my opinion ( i know so many people are gunna chew me out for that one but oh well)as long as Sean gets picked ill be happy. hell ill be happy either way cause street fighter is a good game regardless of the people in it.

Now with this topic on Ryu's "Popularity": Everyone picks his butt mainly because that he's a utility character in the game. It takes very little time to get him down and opens the door on MANY OTHER CHARACTERS WITH SIMILAR MOVESETS!!!
Now, people with harder or unique movesets (IE Zang and The Flash) are less popular by the general populous. Only the "Truly" dedicated will get them down. I like and learned Gen's nasty curve we now call, Gameplay and for the most part, enjoy not running back to Ryu every time I get my *** handed on a silver platter. There's other characters. SO, if you're not wanting to play with Ryu, then DON'T PICK HIM...

Seriously they need to stop with elena. She sucked in 3s, and if its just about have more boobies in sf4(the only reason to add mika) the art style isnt doesnt exactly capture the female form well so i dont see the point.
ANd as for ryu, having characters with higher learning curves is fun, but it just has to be worth it. Why bust ur but learning viper when u still when someone can learn ryu in half the time and at the very least will be a tough win for u. Take turbo for example, ryu is also easy to learn there(hes still tons harder to use then his sf4 incarnation) but picking up someone like bison which is hard to play is worth doin since he has monstrous dmg. Theres no such thing in sf4.

Its like saying i watch Dragonball but i hate Goku because he is the strongest or you play the game and you hate Goku for being one of the strongest of the game! SF can do without you losers! rly .. people who think ryu is overpowered tzzz i dont think they have the ability to "think" when they play flaming about ryu but AKUMA and GOUKEN and CAMMY and CHUN and HONDA and GUILE with his fu**ing fireball spam and WISHES RYU MORE RECOVERY ON HIS HADOUKEN cuz' guile has to move his finger and a sonic boom comes out and he is save AND HE IS FU**ING STRONG so pls hate more on the main char

On the Ryu subject I agree he should be good since he is the main character but when Ryu is in the hands of an experienced player he can be nearly unstoppable and a lot of his moves over ride most other characters lol So I can see people's complaints. The only way really to balance the game is just buff up the others that are lacking in the combo department give them some priority to some of their moves verses others. Example right now Makoto has no anti-projectile protection. So give a few frames in her dash punch to where she can go through them. No I am not saying make Ryu suck by the way just work on the priorities of various moves vs other moves. Since the only thing that out priorities most of Ryu's are ken's shoryuken and the higher tiered fighters moves.
cant believe elena didnt make the cut as sven said she barely missed out last time , such a well designed character, and refreshing, capcom arnt listening to what fans want . yun and yang are fine but elena should have got in 1st smells of laziness
I cant believe ppl are calling Ono a 'troll.' The trolls are the ones who keep asking the same questions over and over. Why is it that these ppl cant understand that announcing the AE home DLC now is just too early. Thats like announcing Vanilla SF4 for home consoles when the arcade version isnt even out yet. That would be a slap in the face to JP arcade owners. Rabid fans need to get their shots.

I don't know what gave you that impression. She was hardly touched in 3rd Strike.
Didnt see any tournaments where Elena was used and was victorious...I VE seen makoto....Her upward punch was like a shryuken in 3s...Even on ground to ground it connected...Now shes so broken...I think elena would fit in ssf4...Just dont see anyone using her like makoto.And for R-MIKA----ONO wants her...Shes similar to el fuerte and guy(special moves wise).....So i dont see whats the problem-Besides her big jumbos......Maybe her hit box will be a challenge..Q would be a good addition because capcom barely scratched the surface on that guy.....Oro would be great for shoto and projectile characters..He would have a ton of rivals in this game.Gouken-Gen-Akuma-Ryu -Bison-Seth.The list goes on....Hugos in for sure..Alex would be real interesting in this game. Point of order: we could very easily not get more characters. It's getting very close to release date, and with each passing day of ambiguous Ono tweets hope seems to dwindle more. If this is the case, I'll be a little disappointed, but Capcom's gotta do what Capcom's gotta do.
I would personally like to see: Rolento, Karin, Alex and Elena.
As for the Elena controversy, I don't exactly get the claim that she shouldn't be included because she would be low tier. How do we know that?
Elena is not entirely low-tier. She's roughly middle (higher than another favorite - Alex in several tier-lists). Secondly, tier in 3S doesn't even remotely correlate to tier in 4. Makoto was top tier in 3S - currently considered low tier in 4. Dudley was fairly high tier then, claimed to be relatively low tier now (I don't believe it), Ibuki is mid-tier in both 3S and 4. The point is: there can be differences. They could modify Elena in such a way that she could royally kill.
Also, tier-lists are forever in flux anyway. The DLC is almost certainly coming with the balance patch - so that is no doubt going to upset some things in any case. So lets stop arguing about who should be included based on tier, kay?
Not that I agree with the low tier assumption as a reason she's not in but come on son.
None of her moves were safe on block and she took damage horribly. In this slower paced title great leaps would have to be made to even make her compete seriously. Making a character THAT much better than their 2D counterpart has yet to come true.

Its safe to assume/guess that if "insert character" is brought to SSF4, they will be low tier. Before SSF4 was released, I thought Makoto might not translate well with having no anti-projectile move and no parry. That seems to have come true but we can bet on capcom fixing the prob thru balance changes.
I mained Duds and Elena in 3S and I feel Duds doesnt do as well in a highly defensive game but I still main him in SSF4. For Elena, I think she might translate better than Duds and Makoto. WHy? She has 2 good long range top down normals, long range pokes, a Hazanshu type move but it hits twice so you wouldnt be able to focus attack it, a special that you can only block low(flares) which adds to her mix ups, etc.
The tier list looks funny with all of the new characters taking up the bottom half of the tier list. But the tier list isnt the final word. The game is still young. For someone to not want a character in because they think they will be low tier, that person is either a tier whore or a competitive player...or both... Looks at all those competitive Sagat players in Vanilla SF4.
Ill stick with the characters I have fun with even if they are "low tier"

So u think there gonna give let her keep those pokes? Not a chance, look what they did to deejay(he has no of the proirties that made him good in turbo). Its not about being a tier whore its about adding characters to the game that will do nothing but take up space in the select screen. We have 35 right now but when u play how many of those do you really see? I honestly dont want anymore characters until each and ever character is a legit competitor. And there really not that far from accomplishing that, they just need to stop nerfing and balance up and also take a look at the general game mechanics. Makoto would be 10 times better if this game wasnt so defensive and that can be said about alot of the lower tier characters.
I dont understand why there is so much hate against Elena. LOL.... I just dont get it. I mean, if you dont like her... than dont play her. It is that simple. But to bash her inclusion because you feel there are better candidates doesnt really make any sense. Either way, there are gonna be players who like their own favorite characters and are going to play with them. It seems pretty apparent that Elena has a pretty strong fan base. My point being, when there is this much fan request for her inclusion, she SHOULD be allowed in. The new fighters are for the COMMUNITY to enjoy. There are countless fans who want to see her in. To see someone else like, say Charlie, get in over Elena when she won a popular vote... would just be tragic.
Not really she could appear in Tekken x SF or whatever. It's not necessarily new either that people are whining about "low tier garbage" or "wasted character slot". Nobody is ever truly satisfied with the roster they are given.
I honestly don't get where all the love for most of these characters come from, but the roster is already a stellar one. If not adding Elena, Rolento, Karin and Roflmika is THAT devastating to people in general I don't know how you're having fun with the game currently or ever had fun for that matter lol.

Dont you think its a bit too early to decide how they might weaken a character? That is an unknown. I never would have guessed they would make Makotos dash punch slower or give Duds a nice overhead link combo.
I think nerfing might be effective. Look at Sagat, matches in Vanlla SF4 were like ryu, sagat, ryu, ken, sagat, akuma... repeatedly. Now that they nerfed Sagat, we hardly see him online. Now its mostly Ken & Ryu lol. Ken got some buffs now more ppl use him. Just my opinion but I think if they add a few more frames of recovery to shoto-balls and make only the ex shoryu have invincibility frames then maybe MAYBE we would see a shift in online character usage. A shift to Guile...lol. Well, both nerfing and buffing have their advantages and disadvantages.
I do agree about Makoto, this high defensive system does her wrong.

It's fine to want other chaqracters. My favorites and mains are all in SSF4(Sakura Makoto Cammy Dudley Ken(no I do NOT main him but I like the character) and Bison) To be honest some people would be upset if their main is missing(Is Sakura wasn't in this game I'd be a bit miffed) However the roster currently is steller but It if fun to think of people it would have been..NICE to have
I realize that but I also said she, meaning Elena could appear in SFxTekken. Hmmm let's see. There's going to be a game engine that supposedly caters to SF fans in case they hate the way Tekken plays. She could be saved for that game for a simple reason that someone else stated (to be the SF counter to Tekken's Eddie/Christie).
I enjoy hearing Justin Wong talk about games that have not yet been released such as MVC3 and SSF4AE because the pro's get told things before the public and he always slips up and reveals information.
Yesterday at seasons beatings he said that SSF4AE will be released roughly six months after it's out in December in Japan. So
EXPECT SSF4AE TO BE OUT IN JUNE
or around then and if it doesn't come out in December in Japan expect it to be out six months after whenever it comes out in Japan.
i would rather have elena and alex over hugo or oro... i know ppl askin for these characters as well. but they dont appeal to the overall cast! we have enough wierd looking characters in the game. only the best should be included thats my opinion..
