@spotlesseden: It doesn't matter if Marn was a perfect gentleman 'round here, he's always the object of quite a bit of animosity. Dieminion and Marn have a bit of a feud going on, so Dieminion only made it worse on himself by taunting before and during the match. The two rose taunts by Marn in those final two rounds were pretty hilarious as a result.

He was getting blown up by Chris Schmidt, like 1/8th life left, he paused the game and said his stick wasn't working and he had no control of his character at all. Everyone was confused and fail for awhile then they somehow agreed to start the game over and tried to replicate the match to where they left off w regards to life and meter and time. Then they were just like "GO!" and Yipes ended up winning.

It was really stupid.

Daigo's a great player, but that doesn't put him above everyone else and he shouldn't get special treatment--especially not in a community event. Big up to andre though, that match was epic with him and daigo. I also like how gamer bee almost got an ocv on the team that knocked them out. That rog took out choco, and momochi before bee got on. @SAMURAI: I don't know many members of the community that have a handler who makes demands of the tournament organizers (who are almost entirely volunteers, must we note) and actively avoids being seen on the stream (aka, the place that everyone plays to support the community at a distance). I don't know Daigo personally, but this sounds really unfortunate on his part. There is pressure associated with being #1, and if he can't take it, maybe it's time for him to switch to something a little less intense, like Puzzle Fighter.

Arturo has no reason to be bitter about the money match considering he won last year and this year it came down to yet another extremely close match. I can see how familiar you are with the concept of the logical fallacy given how often you utilize it.

What Arturo does have a problem with is someone receiving preferential treatment and rightfully so. Arturo is a member of Team Spooky and they are putting on this stream and helping keep the event going the best they can; they shouldn't have to pander to everyone who comes through the door. That is, unless you're saying that Daigo deserves special treatment far, far beyond that received by other players. All Daigo should need is a translator--not a handler on-site as if he were Paris Hilton.

An online player telling tournament players to "stay free"? At least we have an expert consultant on the subject. I don't know what the tournament scene would do without the online warriors worshiping Daigo and condemning them from afar.

I've been to tournaments where people did not want to play on the stream, and every single time they did, there was a resounding "WTF". In essence: Step up or go home. Sanford is no exception and, yet again, neither is Daigo.

Arturo might be a good player, but he's constantly talking smack about pretty much just everyone. Pretty much the most bigheaded player I've ever heard talking on a stream.

Even if you are a good player, you should show some respect to every player, even if they are not nearly as good as you.
e.g. : This guy "Pro Rook" just started playing on the stream against Ryder, and immediately Arturo goes "lol is he from Xbox Live? Who is he? Some random?".

The scene usually goes on about ; "oh wow, the SF community is so cool, and the scene is so tight, people want to help out other people by writing guides and combovideos"... well, that whole storytale goes right down the drain once you hear Arturo open his mouth.
Much more love for talented people who genuinely help out the community, such as Maj, Ryan Hunter, the rest of Team Spooky, and even our own Catalyst.
Arturo's input is not helping out tbh, I started getting fed up with the guy during his comments on the first GodsGarden stream where he was commenting alongside Chris Hu, but people said he was just talking crap because "he was tired".

About the whole Daigo thing; I agree that Daigo shouldn't get special treatment, and of course it would be more fun if he'd wouldn't be weird about being on the stream, but do they realize how retarded it is to start shouting "USA! USA!" because someone beat Daigo?
It's not because Andre won this set, that he's a better player than Daigo.
For crying out loud, Have some decency America, it would have been more profound to give a round of applause to the losing player and showing some respect.
Some real caveman-attitude right there to be proud of.
I felt sooo embarrassed in those guys' place.
Shouting whenever Daigo took a hit? Really?
"Welcome to America?" Honestly? Daigo schooled all of your asses multiple times, know when to admit who's the better player in general, instead of fapping over one USA win.
It's a tight match which is all about concentration, just watch and be quiet.

SB5 is looking like a great tourney though, some epic matches, but I loved the EVO player setup a lot more, 2 people up front, with people 20 feet in the back watching.
No interaction, pure concentration, the way it should be.
Hope Arturo stays of the stream; Chris Hu, Chen, Cen and Spooky have been doing a much better job, luckily.

People are always going to complain about any time that their idolized Japanese players lose. When you put them on a pedestal like that, you're just setting yourself up for disappointment. It's the same people who insist it's "Daigo's friend" every time there's a video of gameinn losing on Xbox Live. It's the same people who complain that the announcer is yelling too loud into Daigo's ear at events when he loses and the same ones that claim he was forced to sit too close or too far from the TV.

Stop making excuses about anything other than the matches themselves. If you want to say it was a bad matchup, say that--it's a legitimate evaluation of what transpired in the match itself, but that in itself should not be used to explain away someone's victory (like when saying that Daigo loses because he didn't "know the matchup"--that's really a terrible, terrible excuse that excuses nothing yet people still say it). Don't say it was compounding external factors because it's really quite pathetic.

He has great charisma with Ken and has a really unique zoning strategy--definitely an exciting player to watch. I also respect how he isn't afraid to throw a psychic DP. Wow definitely the International Team would have won if it Choco was someone else since the final score was 13-12 U.S. I'm not saying she didn't play well but she didn't have the experience to play against the top players from U.S. She probably has experience against Marn and Justin b/c they know each other but even with that experience, she wasn't able to beat them two, let alone any chance against Mike Ross and the other two. Wow if it was like Sako (Cammy) or even Tokito (Akuma) Daigo and gang would have won it. Grats to the U.S. team for beating Daigo three times though. I think Daigo's like Justin. i think it is a combination of that and SSF4's balance tweaks. daigo sticks with ryu, even though they weakened him substantially (despite what any idiot here on this site will try to tell you as they lose to a mass of scrubby online ryu's because they suck). similarly, jwong sticks with rufus despite his nerfs, though he didn't change as much as ryu.

daigo is good, but he got a lot of his results in SF4 because of how good ryu was as well. now, he's good and he gets good results, but less often because other characters are as good as ryu.

thats not a slam against daigo, because obviously he didn't just pick top tier in SF4 like everyone was saying, he picked the character he liked. it makes watching the gameplay more exciting if you ask me, a much better balanced version of ryu in the hands of a great player like him facing off against other great players with characters on par with his, some times leads to some really interesting matches.

@joker101: The Justin match was somewhat close. She had obviously been trained on how to best contain Rufus, but Justin capitalized on some opportunities and threw off her strategy toward the end.

Choco played well; people forget she's playing absolute top quality players here. The "community" will just say anything they have to in order to justify their predictions (aka, that the US team would be wiped out after Choco was out and that Daigo wouldn't even come close to losing).

The armchair experts on here are just doing what they do best--being wrong.

What I personally dislike tho' is the kind of attitude you're showing, considering a 'worshipper' every person who does not bash him. Which is sad, because Daigo is a great player (and I don't think you can deny that) and a humble guy for what I've seen. Guys, chill out. It was just an exhibition match between 5 top american players and 5 international players who happened to be there, it was never supposed to prove that country X is better than country Y or whatever.
Most players did their best and the show was great, it's the only thing that counts.

@369 I know you're just an American Hater, but they explained the format was the way it was because the foreign team were the guests for the tournaments. The guests take a seat and are challenged by the home team. Back when America faced the Japanese in a 5v5 (in 2001 when you were just a baby), America was their guest, so the us players also sat down while the japanese players came up to play them.

Congratulations to Team USA! I was seriously on the edge of my seat. International team was severely handicapped by Choco who was clearly out of her depth, but then again, if Sako or Mago had replaced her, it may not have been so close and exciting to watch.

I was a bit disappointed about how some of the US players commentating carried themselves - lots of attacking fans watching the stream. I can't imagine Tiger Woods winning the Ryder Cup for USA and telling all the non-USA fans on camera to "go suck a dick", but that's basically what Marn did after Team USA's win. It's personalities like him that prevent gaming from ever being taken seriously.

Respect to James Chen for doing such a professional job on the commentary.

I very rarely bash any player, be it Daigo or anyone else (outside of the current "diva situation", I don't see any reason to bash him). I like Daigo, I like Justin, I like Momochi, I like Arturo, Valle, Mago, Eita, Tokido, Vance, GamerBee, Marn, Mike Ross--I just care about good SF and that's my foremost concern. These people that have made Daigo out to be a deity really don't care about the game anymore. They just want Daigo to win in order to satisfy their own self-delusions, which is a shame, honestly, because it looks like it takes a great deal of excitement out of the matches.

(You'll also note if you look above that I already said Daigo was a great player early yesterday; anyone who says otherwise is kidding themselves)

Bogus seeding as in this:

Correct seeding should be by skill. Andre is one of >5 players in America that can beat Daigo in SSFIV. That can't be argued. It isn't a problem that they are in the same pool, its the fact that their match should have been seeded as Semi-Finals or Winners-Finals in that pool, not SECOND ROUND. That makes no sense what so ever. Both of them have proven time again that they are capable of wrecking s*** at tournaments and a match of that caliber shouldn't be played so early in POOLS. Take the Texas Rangers vs. Yankees right now. The Rangers had never won a series game until two days ago in history. If they had been placed against the Yankees second round and eliminated then they never would have reached their long deserved win that they accomplished. Same thing as Andre and Daigo, and every other HIGH SKILLED match happening. It upsets the overall flow of the tournament. But from the looks of it, if Daigo had won he would have to play Momochi? That itself is godless organization as well. Tournaments should strive to accurately rank top 16 as much as possible, especially with $1000s on the line and a top 5-8 payout.

I feel it is bad enough that these pools are run as brackets in the first place and not round robin. If you have Smash Bros. tournaments that can run [assuming a 250+ man tournaments, which happens multiple times per year] 25 man pools 2/3 @ 5-8min PER GAME then these pools can certainly be run the same way for SSFIV. This takes out the random upset factor and instead lets the TRUE strongest players make it out of bracket. The EVO style of bracket makes sense for maybe 1k players, but not for pools so small. I feel it is too random. The ones who make it out should be the ones who defeat the most opponents in their pool.

You are assuming things here. It is very difficult to seed that many players, but if you put time into it it can be done. It sure isn't going to happen the day of the tournament if you try. It takes extensive data review and analysis to accurately rank players in and around their region. It is possible. It has been done in other gaming tournaments before. Great job to Marn--that was a really close match. Major, major execution errors on both sides throughout (Marn was dropping combos left and right, especially). Given, Dudley's BnB is a little harder to complete against Ryu considering Ryu's are pretty automatic with enough practice and Ryu can just mash out an uppercut.

Cue complainers about brackets, crowd noise, chair height, TV brightness, TV contrast, joystick noise, cell phones, and construction crews working outside the venue... now.

Fact is, this is the age of sponsorships. Very soon, without professionally and properly seeded brackets the sponsors will control the players to the point of not attending events that are biased. Seeding is professional. Its not about Daigo, its about the principals of tournament organizing. He is just the biggest example today.

I'm kidding, I'm kidding (I like to play Smash with my niece because it's a game she can understand even at her age; it's a very friendly game for young people). Jago is not the top Bison in the country and doesn't have the track record nor the reputation to substantiate it; he's not even top 5 with a chance to beat Daigo as you claimed, to be honest. A number of American players have beaten Daigo in the past year, so I'm just being frank when I say that, no matter what goes on, you'd be able to find someone that would be a bracket buster toward Daigo. If Daigo is really worthy of the #1 overall seed, it shouldn't matter who else is in his bracket.

Let's put it this way: When March Madness comes around and a #1 falls to a much lower seeded team (like Kansas last year and Northern Iowa), did you hear Kansas whining about "bad seeding"? Of course not. Daigo certainly isn't going to moan about it either.

@keyzerjose: He obviously doesn't hate Daigo. You just have to understand his personality--he's called himself free more than you can count. To put it bluntly: He's always being facetious. It's his personality in and out of the matches. I can understand if some people are turned off by that, no worries.

@ipoopedmypants: We saw what happened back in London when Daigo tried to counterpick Ryan Hart--bodied. I've been saying for ages he needs to take up another character if only so he can apply his skillset to them that he's applied to Ryu and unlock some hidden facets of their game.

Marn, the "daigo Killer" is incredibly skilled, to launch ultra hearing the sound of his opponent stick moving. When you see his match versus the Guile (he heared a sonicboom move, try his chance, and unfortuntely...it wasn't...), it is obvious how he "minded" all his ultras against Daigo.

Well, there you go. All the Ryu haters have to understand that everyone knows the match up against Ryu, everyone.
Characters that are considered lower tier aren't played as much and hence people don't know the match up.
You really don't see many great tournament Ryu players.
Wong just proved that by taking the lowest tiered character, the least played character, even pros don't know what to do. how many Makotos do they get to play?

This goes to show many that tier lists should be taken lightly. There seemed to be more characters represented than back when Vanilla was released. Great tourny! Adon is a mixed bag I think. I had a feeling he was pretty decent with his mix-up options/frame trap you name it.

I liked the stream from what I was able to watch well Daigo has finally fallen now the rise of Gamerbee begins lol.

But on a serious manner props to JWong for using Makoto a little more time and he could have had her down to be an even bigger threat. I personally was glad Daigo lost but I did not see the aftermath so I can't really put my input on it.

To everyone watching. It's team spooky with a tourny that originally a main mvc2 tournament. To expect class is very gullible. You don't like it, you don't come or watch. Yet int' people come and have a good time despite all this "disrespect".

I enjoyed this better than Evo and it seems that every player has stepped up their game. Congrats to all the players, you all did extremely well.

However, I didn't like the racist comments from the players and the insulting remarks from such players like Marn who went banners after beating Diago with a random ultra. I kind of wish Momochi didn't abandon his Akuma until he was absolutely desperate. His Akuma was badass and the reason I became a fan of his. I think he had just won a tournament in Singapore before switching to Ken too so it seemed a bit unwarranted. He has the best Ken in the world, but Ken's options are pretty limited and it showed when he could neither attack or defend Gamerbee without being countered.

It isn't so much Ken's options are limited as it is Momochi's options were limited. Two days before departure to the US he wrote on his blog that he doesn't know much about the Adon match-up. The look on Momochi's face straight after the grand finals pretty much said "Yep, I'm not surprised..."

Also Momochi once said, bluntly, "I find Akuma boring now..." and this led to his search for a new main.

If the americans took more time focusing on everybody, not just Daigo, the surely would be in the top 2. However they decide beating Daigo is all we need to do and look at the result...

Oh and another thing, the americans that were at SBV should learn to be more classy and have respect...There is a difference between friendly trash talking and blatent disrespect, so what the international people are better, it is our job to do better than they can. The stuff that went down during SBV was a prime example of why international people don't like americans now. Get some class!!

OH and last time I checked, Daigo is not God in this game, so he can lose. Just because he was beat by bison and dudley does not make the people using the characters the best in the world, because then we should consider the few other people that beat him with those characters should be the best too. Really good stream and good tourny. The nationalism is getting annoying but that's a general problem with the community. When the americans go to Japan I cheer for them, because I know that some japanese players look down on the rest of the world, but the USAchant got annoying AS ALWAYS. Don't be surprised when ppl get happy that the US lose when some of the top players disrespect, it's just sad that ppl start saying that americans generally disrespect just because Arturo and Marn talk smack.

Sidenote:
Marn did apologize for his talk after the Daigo match and I appreciated it. If marn would act classy all the time he would be so damn popular.

Wow, that was some of the highest level, most intense stuff I've seen. I was very surprised at GamerBee's victory...he made it look easy after Momochi dominated the entire singles tournament.

And JWong showed his old flashes of brilliance...he played well and was sharp. In fact, none of the top players choked it away, it just came down to awesome playing and some turnarounds.

Team Spooky def held it down. The matches were amazing. I wouldnt say Marn and Arturo were racist as much as they were just disrespectful. I love a lil smack talk but they def crossed the line. Plus they never say it to their face just behind their back on the mic. I get standing behind your country (chanting during the international friendlies) but why chant during singles? That's not country vs country, its each man for themselves. They should of chanted Marn Marn or Ross or whoever not USA. Xenophobes. Hu is pretty annoying on the mic. Skisonic and chen did decent (minus the blatant hating on some japanese players by skisonic.. and before you say he didnt, he even acknowldged in the past he has and did so again. That said he did some good analysis. So did gootecks, Diemenion, arturo (who played great), sanford, and some other players (When they werent being haters.. looking at u arturo). MArn would def be much more popular if he wasnt such a dick. His dudley combos are sick. Gamerbee and Momochi did amazing and play very exciting. Daigo still played great in the matches he lost, but made simple mistakes. That said it took Andre and Marns best to beat him and he def had to fight the crowd in his head. Not making excuses but its gotta be exhausting. Still valiant effort and the hype for each one of his fights is why he was flown out here. Much respect. Mike ross did great as well. Ha to sanford and his "several characters" Hilarious. Great tournament with a few flaws but overall awesome. Sorry about the essay.

Everyone seems to think that Gamerbee figured out Justin's Makoto. He didn't. Justin actually played Makoto worse in the rematch than he did the first time, much to Gamerbee's advantage. Not enough jump-in/step kick crossups or karakusa. Every time Justin dashed in, Gamerbee tensed up and reacted with crouch block. He was begging to be karakusa comboed the whole match. Gamerbee wants to stay in close? Give him a reason not to. Justin didn't, and that's why Gamerbee took it.

i wanted marn to beat daigo and cheered his victory. but man, he is a difficult person to like. he has absolutely no respect for other players, or at least that's how it appears on stream. this is not how someone builds a fanbase as a sponsored player. evil geniuses management needs to reign his terrible attitude in.

as long as he was an amateur (as a non-sponsored player), he was accountable to no one. his antics didn't reflect on anyone but himself. but i wonder what EG's sponsors would think if they saw him on the stream yesterday. he earned a few brownie pts for appearing in crosscounter to help the community out, but his attitude on the stream erased any goodwill. the only other place you see outbursts like this from professionals is in the WWE, and that's scripted.

Marn's actions on stream and his performance @ SB2k10 would have any real company kick him out. He was HIGHLY unprofessional in many instances. Granted he's a good player but to mock other players is DEFINITELY not what a pro should do. Occasionally is fine but every time he is on camera you can expect something arrogantly stupid. It's not funny or controversial it's a wonder this guy is sponsored in any way.

Howard Stern and O&A are controversial but with a point and definitely can act dumb but they DO have a point. Marn is an ass like them but he's BORING and EGOTISTICAL. If he was a tiny but clever he might get away with it like Chris Hu but he's sadly not.

Online Adon's exploded after that and the tourney players have been practicing up on their Adon, and Gamerbee was still able to take first at this tourney. She's a high-risk character that takes above-average execution to pull off. While I'm not saying she's God-tier, I'm pretty well convinced she's not bottom tier, and haven't since launch. Magneto was considered pretty low-tier for years in MvC2 until people's execution stepped up, and now he's right at the top.

Marn is known to be an ass to just about everyone, so him being to be racist is not that bad in comparison.

Arturo has Japanese friends since he hanged around a few of them for a while. If he is being racist, it's probably cause he's back in America.

Daigo talks smack about other people too except he doesn't say it on camera.

Anyway, I think the problem is that US players are very used to talking smack. So, when foreign players come to visit, some of them forget that there is a culture difference and that people will misunderstand. It's something to think about especially as the distance between fighting communities worlwide gets smaller.

What Daigo has worked out along time ago is that it is not just about winning a tournament, its about winning the crowd.

That's something Sabin, Marn and many other players have failed to realize. Daigo knew his time would come to an end at some point but at least he leaves with respect and dignity.

Sabin and Marn may have won more matches than Daigo at Seasons Beatings, but they lost a lot of respect and fans in the process.

This year’s Seasons Beatings venue has been one of the best venues I have watched in several months, even better than this year’s Evo. Every player, both domestically and internationally, has upped their game and demonstrating high-level play with minimum flaws in their execution and given lesser characters such as Makoto a moment to shine. This venue was a testament that it is not the character that makes the player but the player’s skill that makes the character.

That being said, I am disgusted by the American crowd’s reaction towards the Diago versus Marn match, especially after Marn had defeated Diago. It is disheartening when the victor, Marn, demonstrated a little showmanship by shaking Diago’s hand and hugging him and then insulted Diago behind his back. This behavior only demonstrates to me how low and sadistic a player like man really is. However, Marn is not the only one at fault here but the rest of his accomplices who had contributed with racial slurs, chanting “USA” and exchanging childish remarks because Diago is defeated and eliminated from the tournament.

These sorts of antics are embarrassing to the American gaming Street Fighter community as a whole and the consequences will have adverse effects resulting in renowned international players being reluctant to partake in US tournaments. This will hurt community and the minds behind the tournaments that are hoping for their venues to create substantial traffic in order to achieve monetary returns if these sorts of antics continue.

Despite all of this and their negative energies towards the international players, Gamerbee, a Taiwanese player, took the crown as the number one player and Japanese player, Momochi, settled in with second place as Justin Wong, American player, humbled in with third. The American player, Marn, which defeated diago, is nowhere to be seen in the top three, irony.

There is a reason why we revered international players like Diago as one of the best players in the world. Diago and many other international players like him had showed us things that we could never thought possible and are stepping points to where we want to reach as players. Diago has a strong following not solely because of his skills but his courtesy and unbiased respect towards players regardless if he wins or loses. Sadly, American players like, Marn, makes it very hard for us to root for our own.

Ok First of all.

Arturo and Marn are friends with the int crew better than any of you guys here. They get free plane tickets and has taken our money. So I believe a trash talking and getting salty is ok.

Second of all.
Everybody trash talks. If no one does, how hype can you get? Watching people blow is fun. The final had no energy and was boring even though it was momochi vs gamerbee because there is no hype and it felt like a regular casual match.

It's funny how keyboard warriors and stream monsters take all this far more seriously than the international community that actually shows up to these American tournaments and experience it do. There's a player base contingent that simply likes to be rowdy and get hype and play up the masculine energy inherent in competitive activity. I'll be honest, that's not really me or my scene, but I understand why it is what it is and why it can be as infectious and cathartic as it often tends to be.

The thing is that you see players like Daigo and GamerBee actually saying they really enjoy this about American tournaments and greatly prefer how thrilling that atmosphere is to what they're more commonly used to. I'm pretty sure they don't need you people white knighting for them.

I enjoy hearing Justin Wong talk about games that have not yet been released such as MVC3 and SSF4AE because the pro's get told things before the public and he always slips up and reveals information.

Yesterday at seasons beatings he said that SSF4AE will be released roughly six months after it's out in December in Japan. So

This is kind of silly. Daigo doesn't speak English so the players don't have much means of meaningfully interacting with each other in those moments and the players get off camera quickly because the next match needs to be set up. You wouldn't even have any concept of what was being said if you didn't hear it on the stream. Also, Art didn't talk trash about his matches with any of those players, all he said is that he was disappointed that Daigo was requesting preferential treatment, which is kind of a reasonable complaint (using the word "bitch" to say so aside (then again, you just used the word "pussies", which is just as bad--way to be a hypocrite).

To be honest I don't really get why Marn and Art are being conflated here. It's two completely different things and they don't really behave or speak similarly at all outside of the fact that they both used the word bitch that day. As for Justin, he really never talked trash during the whole tournament as far as I recall and was actually pretty respectful if you guys were paying any sort of attention.

I'm not "defending them", I'm just putting things in perspective. Like I said, all these players have their plusses and minuses, but I think these things are often exaggerated or misconstrued due to idealizing players as being something other than just normal human beings. The problem is all commentators are biased in this competition so I try to ignore them which is why I prefer S-kill since he's is pretty unbiased. Also I prefer Mike Ross over most of these guys especially Arturo as for Marn just stick the camera to his Dudley and that's it.

I'm saying it's not their responsibility to represent the US. People can project whatever they want onto them, and are obviously happy to do so. Crowds yell "USA!" because they'll look for any excuse to get hype and chant anything. When it was Gamerbee in EVO, the crowds were chanting against Justin because Gamerbee appeared to be the underdog. When Momochi was losing to Gamerbee, the crowd chanted "GOUKI!!" because they thought Momochi could switch to the character they knew him for and turn things around. Crowds just want a good show and they want to get excited. The US vs. Japan rivalry narrative (that doesn't really exist as much as people would like to pretend it does) is one way to manufacture that sort of excitement and so they'll latch onto that context as justification for that.

The point is that while those players are -a- representation of the US FGC, they themselves are not The Representatives of America or its playerbase as a whole and shoveling all the onus on their shoulders for upholding American's good name as a country (or whatever the hell it is you're so obsessed about) is unfair and narrow-minded and really pretty self-undermining. All you're really saying when you give Marn that much credit is that the players who actually were on good behavior count for absolutely nothing. Obviously that's not true, so maybe consider re-evaluating your priorities.

I was there and seriously you dudes need to get out more and see what people are like outside of forums. People crack jokes all the time, people hype up matches and say ridiculous stuff because it usually gets a reaction of laughter (comedy), I didn't meet a single person there who ranted about respect or attitude because everyone there is very friendly and willing to be goofy with you. Seriously I saw Daigo laughing with someone who was translating for him, GamerBee was laughing with his crowd, as were all of the American players mentioned. Marn and Choco had some very funny photos and seemed to get along well and she certainly had a good enough grasp of English. The only person I saw act in an annoying fashion was Neo and honestly I am big enough to admit that our personalites are just too different for me. See I didn't say he was a insufferable blemish on society I understand who he is and accept that.

Anyway Season's Beatings was a great event with an even better crowd. The entertainment was top notch and it catered to a large number of games. Heck there was a room that was basically stick modding and a high stakes money match for super puzzle fighter. You would have to try to not have fun. I suggest anyone who likes Fighting games, good people, and good matches check it out next time.

I agree with the above poster - I'm was very embarrassed watching them chant USA after the way they act when Daigo loses. They talk sh** about him all day long on the stream (Arturo) and then when they win Daigo can't even get in a handshake because everyone explodes around him, slamming into each other (and hopefully not elbowing him or anything in the process).
I respect Daigo because of his play style. I like to see everybody want Justin Wong and others cheering on their buddies, but we just seem to lose all of our class when we win. You would never see Japanese players act the way we do if we had a Daigo over on their turf.
There are a lot of what flamers would call Dick Riders of Daigo, but this isn't Dick Riding and bitching about Daigo losing. It's bitching about how he's treated by (not all but som of) the players here in the US.
We need more Mike Rosses out there and less Salturo Sanchez's.

I like the hype, but sometimes the us players(well, spectators and commentators too) behave just like a bunch of aggressive monkeys. Anyone did watch the video, where marn, after beating daigo, go outside with the other players and they all went crazy? Jesus fcking christ, this is so embarassing, they are all like 10 y.o. children, and marn looked like he's lost his mind or wanted to kill somebody. Don't get me wrong, i've been in many, many different tournaments with absolutely different games(from first quake to sc2), watched a lot of streams from all over the world, and i've NEVER seen anything like US tournaments...
Well, all previous streams i've seen were not so bad, but SSB5 really shows the true face of US fighting games community, and it's such an ugly face.

marn's defense is that the stream monsters behave worse than he does. i don't think most of us would disagree. i'm not saying it would be easy for anyone to shrug off, but he's got to realize they are a vocal minority. there were 11k ppl watching this and a few stream monsters talking non-stop crap. marn can blame the community at large, but we don't have the ability to punish or ban the haters. as a pro, he has to learn to rise above that noise.

i honestly don't see much value in the chat and purposefully ignore it. i would suggest that future streaming teams disable it entirely if hey aren't going to police it vigorously. it's full of haters, racists and homophobes and that's how it'll always be as long as chat is anonymous. the vast majority of viewers however are not participating in the chat. they might not have the context of marn vs. stream monsters, but even if they did marn is responsible for his own actions and represents an elite group of sponsored gamers. he can do better than what he did on sunday night.

there's a somewhat self-reinforcing cycle here. marn taunts during matches for fun --> some parts of commmunity dislike that type of disrespect and comment on it --> other parts taunt marn for taunting --> marn gets mad and taunts more and disrespects more --> enter feedback loop.

there was a large part of the community that disliked how justin acted at gamestop and hated him for it. but since then, justin has done very little to engender resentment w/ the viewers and it shows. maybe he's changed very little as a person, but at least he knows what not to do on stream. marn has to look to himself and see if this is what he wants. he can still be who he wants to be, but do it off stream and he won't get criticized for it.

It seems like there are more than a few people who just don't want the scene to grow. They like the "expected" trash atmosphere. I think Daigo really showed his true colors by not getting pissed. He is a competitor and I am sure he was angry when he lost. Particularly with Marn taunting, and crowd screaming. I am sure he knows what Bitch means. I am sure someone by now has told about what the people on the commentator mics were saying.

I guess there is really no way to combat the trashy element at these tournaments, because half the people attending are only there for that reason -> to act like trash and get away with it.

Just looking and listening to Marn. He is quintessential modern trash. He is obese - obviously lazy;conceited; and feeble-minded.

When Arturo commentates, he spends more time talking about himself than the stream.

Do people actually think that anyone would ever tune in to watch Marn or Arturo play? People are watching to watch the international players. But instead of a tournament, they get a circus act - filled with profanity and racism.

@764: You must not play Makoto. Makoto's weak spot is not enemy pressure. Keeping Makoto out is a better idea than getting in on her, given her awesome pokes. The LAST thing a weaker character wants to do against Makoto is get into a wakeup crossup blockstring that ends in a throw tech. After that, she's in close and you've given up frame advantage to a character that excels at pounding on players at close range. Adon doesn't have projectiles or ranged attacks, so he doesn't have any choice BUT to get in. Gamerbee just played more aggressively is all, not giving Justin time to think. Makoto is not a thinking character, she's a DOING character. She needs to go in hard and fast. Justin did not do this. If Wong had played Makoto like he did in their first match, Gamerbee would've eaten all the same attacks and punishes and Wong would've likely won again. After losing with her against Momochi's Ken, he was demoralized and played her against Gamerbee like he didn't trust her. In the first match, he was confident, in the second match, he was afraid to do anything with her. Props to Gamerbee for remaining consistent, but Justin's inconsistency is what handed him the win. YJDK.

I was reading Marns blog and I have to admit he is right. USA Fighting game fans are such Weebos. I mean we have a International tournament and we are rooting for Daigo? In the words of Hakan, Seriously? I respect Daigo and his skills are phenomenal but you don't see Japanese players rooting for Justin Wong or Alex Valle, even Markman said he wanted Justin to take the tournament and he and Madcatz sponsors Daigo. We as fighing game fans in the community need to stop worshiping these Japanese players. People l ike Marn and Justin are proving we have what it takes to beat these International players and American players are hating on them.

Stop hating on Marn and Justin and start supporting them. They are serious for what they do, I gave 50 bucks for Justin to go to France earlier when they needed teh community help and they kept their word and gave my money back as soon as they got back home like they said. Support the community, support your pro players.
