Fans hoping for more news about Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition and Street Fighter X Tekken haven't been hearing a lot about either title as of late.So what's going on with Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition right now? You guys announced it, and then... nothing.
Svensson: Things are going on... it's great! But we're keeping the details mum until we're much closer to release. Frankly, we announced it too early given its timing.
As we'd stated at Comic-con [in July], development had only just recently begun.
On the plus side - fewer threads asking "Why isn't Street Fighter 3 on digital services! WTF!" around here.
When are we gonna hear more news about Street Fighter X Tekken?
Ono: Wait a bit. ;P Maybe early spring...
Given when these two titles were announced and that more details seem a ways out, would you prefer if Capcom had just kept quiet about these games for a bit longer, or do you want to get information as quickly as you can, even if there are long droughts in between? Leave a comment below with your thoughts.
announce stuff later so we can bitch about it later :)
seeing as how SF3 is already online almost everywhere I play it but it is soooo freaking hard to put it on PS3/XBL I see this as BS. They're just waiting for us to get bored of SSF4 and MvC3 and then they'll hype us with sf3...
I'm sure thiers a bunch of suits in the marketing department, we won't be seeing this game untill it's greenlit based off some optimal sales-lowest risk formula.
i hope namco shows some of there stuff. Im really interested in seeing how they redo the sf characters.
Haha, I've been saying this for the last 6 months.
Advertising SF x TK before they've even designed the engine... pssh
Capcom seems to think that SF fans are stupid enough to fall for such marketing.... oh wait a minute....
Anyway, noone ask about TK x SF :P
Agree with goron_ninja, but the thing is that Capcom seem to be trying too hard to please the fans. The fanbase continuously pound on their doors to hear more and more about what projects are being lined up, and Capcom may feel pressured to keep the community happy to let them know what's in the pipeline. It's great to hear the many projects that they have in the works, but I think it's unnecessary. Letting us know about MvC3 would have been more than enough because they had some CGI reels put together, and they knew what was going on... and not too long later we had gameplay footage at E3, and it went on from there. I think they would have kept the majority happy with this only.
The two Capcom X Namco games were probably a bit early as well... sure we saw Kazuya and Nina in the SFIV engine, but we all know that wasn't even an Alpha build of what the game will become, so in that respect I think that should have been held off a bit longer as well.
3S HD is a weird one... everyone knows about GGPO and everyone that is serious about the game is either playing it on that, or at the arcades, so the announcement of this was unnecessary... it would probably have been better as a "rumour we know will happen", much like the SSFIV AE DLC... just keep it quiet until there's both confirmation and some solid footage.
I really... REALLY hate having to wait two years for a game I nerdgasmed over.
I thought the SF vs. Tekken presentation was phenomenal, but then I saw the next article on Eventhubs was "SF vs Tekken in another two years" got me REALLY irritated.
Please announce things months before, not two f**king years
>:(
What do people actually need to see as far as Third Strike? It's just a port with achievements/trophies right? I'm ok with the radio silence. I know the SFxT is two years off, but at least we saw video so that builds some hype for me. I'm excited for these two games, and I'm fine with waiting on them and information on them. I'm more interested in what SSFIV Arcade and more importantly MvC3 are bringing to the table.
I say F*** it announce it when you're going to announce it and if fans complain tell them to shut up or atleast be pacitent because I know half the people here who complained when they heard 2012 aren't even going to care once they finally have the game out. It's beter to know they're thinking ahead rather than wondering "WTF is next"

I'm guessing it has to do with most "casuals" being turned off to the game mechanics of SFIII and how it plays vastly different to SSFIV.
@15
Well I doubt 3S wil just be a port with achivments and online, I think there is gonna be some HD enhancments as well as some balancing and other features, it's not that hard to port games to the Xbox 360. The way they are speaking seems like we won't see this for a whole year.
SFxT showed a demo but it's roughly to show that they are working on it, the game was only a month in development, I hypothisise that the game will visually and physically change in the year two year wait. Even Capcom is not sure the direction they want to take. So i'd ignore that build.
People are just about instant gratification, they want everything now, they were never taught any kind of patience so they cry and complain like little kids. We got SSFIV within a year from it's predicessor and we got MvC3 coming as soon as March (Sooner than you guys make it).
Personally I think everyone needs to give Street Fighter a break, there are so many other fighters coming out and even more others haven't tried. If people lend there support to these other fighters, we would'nt always have Street Fighter at EVO so give Capcom games a break.
About the waiting...
Given that Capcom and Namco are busy on other titles b4 the release of this game it would have behooved them to keep it quiet until some good gameplay was shown.
Namco has TekkenTag2 coming and Capcom has MvC3/SSF4DLC/and SF3 online.
Making those games should have been enough.
Nobody would have thought those 2 were crossing over when they had all that stuff on their plate. They could have announced the games a tad after MvC3 was released. When people would have wondered what's next.
BTW A Soul Calibur Vs. Tekken game SHOULD come in the future too!
I'm not a big gamer like most of these folks here so I don't check up on what Capcom has coming up but definitely way too early to announce SF x Tekken or Tekken vs SF. They should of kept it under wraps until Evo 2011. By then they would of have tons of stuff to tell fans (since by then the game is in the middle stages of development). How the game will be played? What features are transfered from SSF4 and Tekken 6, characters included in the game, stages, combo and juggling system, if any. Annoucing MvC3 at Evo 2010 was probably enough to get fans excited about Capcom's next big project.
I say keep Ono's mouth shut. He's trying to tease people like Hideo Kojima, but sucks at it.
I think its fine, im not too desperate for info on either. I understood what they meant when they said "development has just started". It was nice to know what they were working on and that it was coming. Im in no rush to get either of these games. When more info comes in thats awesome, means its coming soon, and then I'll be more interested. The reason why nobody announces stuff when they start working on it is because everyone starts wetting their pants until it comes out trying to get more and more info. If people just shut up and took the announcement for what it was then we'd probably find out about a lot more games earlier in the dev cycle.
I always hate it when developers announce things too early. Not only does it make the waiting time more difficult (and at times, unbearable...as in the case of Starcraft 2 haha), but it also tends to suck some of the hype out of the current games like SSF4.
I hope its not a direct port. Is it just me or is there massive slow down in some stages in the SF Anniversary Collection. Whenever I play as Q and do C&DB on the right side of Ryu's stage or anywhere in Yun/Yang's stage the whole game slows to a crawl as the opponent is launched and slowly falls at like 5FPS.
This has been an issue with a great deal of Japanese development companies. It happens with western developers too(Blizzard), but worst in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Square-Enix, Team ICO, Polyphony Digital, Konami, just name a few. Thank goodness my people from Atlus work quickly.
As much as I hate Microsoft, their in house developers do a good job of announcing games that are 6 months away from being released. Which makes the wait, not so bad. The ENTIRE Forza series was delivered inbetween the release of GT4 and GT5.
I'm not saying don't take your time and deliver quality products, beacuse The Last Guardian will most likely be another classic. I'm saying, don't tell us about the game so damn early.
Announce it later. Anytime Capcom announces something like that I build up so much hype that it really stresses me out lol When I heard about Street Fighter X Tekken I was ready for that to come out within the year, then I hear 2 years from ono and was like "WTF!" I mean announcing things early isn't terrible, but the announcements of SFxT and SFIIIOE was toooooooooooooooo early
Honestly guys the people whose always crying about it... just have patience =_=. Capcom wants to milk the sh*t out of us and thats why any of those dlc or SF third strike port, they're definitely gonna make it. They wanna make as much money as possible since they made a lot from sf4
I wouldn't put too much stock into Thor not being awesome...pro-level players will use his mighty strike as an 8-way probably, because someone is almost positively gonna find a way to tiger knee it (if they don't then it is not possible) not to mention, I've seen Hulk/Juggs/Zangief teams wreck in MvC2 vids. Unless Juggs and Zangief (or Haggar) are both included in this game, Thor is gonna probably replace one of them
I'm sure many of you have the Xbox version of SF Anniversary Collection that has 3rd Strike on it. It does have online mode and it did work on the 360's xbl so why not re-enable it?
I guess just until the new version is released. I'm sure it would barely make a dent in what they've earned from costume packs so why not?
People really need to go to the Unity boards and read these questions. The guys who asked these questions weren't extremely hungry or thirsty. They were more curious than anything. Some time bastards need to keep their mouths shut and go to the source 1st. Too many idiots with opinions on eventhubs nowadays.
Forget street fighter 3rd strike(though, I do honestly love the game). Lets see Namco Bring out Soul Calibur 5!!!! Woot Woot.
If you wait a bit, you might be happy, but first please be patient. ;D
They should have held the announcements. The games are far from completion and people are still hungry for ssf4 content. With the MvC crowd getting their news, all the other news is just over-saturating the fighting game market. Capcom did exactly what they claimed they were afraid of doing.
@40
I think that's where we mistaking each other. I don't think that they will redraw the sprites after the delays that SSFTHDR had because of it. I think that re-balancing and tweaks are definite.
Who knows maybe that's why they aren't showing anything. Maybe they are redrawing the sprites and just going to spring it on us randomly. I wouldn't mind an HD Remix, but the sprites look great as is.
@ Jon, if they're planning on doing it in HD yeah they're going to have to redo sprites, lucky for them third strike's stages have little to no people in the background unlike HDR. in HD no they wouldn't especally if you have an HD monitor that stretches
When capcom announced mvc2 and put up the ps3 demo and no release date, that was torture. =0 now i want an mvc3 demo and i wont care waiting for spring
I'm happy about the SF3 OE announcement, because it shows that Capcom was listening to fan requests. Besides, I already have the Anniversary Collection, so I can play on that in the meantime. Just happy to know that it's coming out, and that they're porting the arcade edition. Now it just better be arcade perfect.
guess there aint much of a happy medium here. capcom either announces stuff too early and theres a long time between when you hear stuff or they announce it with less than a year to go. mvc3 was like a year out and theres a steady supply of info about that game.
i want to know everything i can as soon as possible i guess though. better to know that not know, just have to live with it being a long time without getting more info.
