Guy sent in word about a Tweet Ryota Niitsuma posted not too long ago explaining that Strider Hiryu would not be a playable character in Marvel vs. Capcom 3.Strider Hiryu is popular overseas as well, we took him out of Marvel vs. Capcom 3, because he didn't fit in with its concept.

Nerd Rage bomb! LOL! Never really cared for MvC2's Capcom roster, so space for new blood is all in my favor. There's gonna be enough cool characters that I can make peace with losing a few hopefuls (silver surfer). I think anyone raging about the list is too hell bent on it being ONLY their dream list. If you can find 3 characters you like (and really that should be easy), then that's all that should matter. I only like 3 characters in SSF4...I only play 2 characters in SC4...I'm cool with it, as long as I get a main I can latch on to.

Strider Hiryu was fun to play as in Marvel vs. Capcom 1 and 2 but I'm pleased that he's proven to be deconfirmed. For this game, I'm happy with some of the new faces they added especially Albert Wesker, Chris Redfield and Amaterasu. Whatever Niitsuma does is of his choosing so I'm more looking forward to seeing new hopeful characters join the ranks. I only wished Morrigan and/or Felicia would at least be replaced with other better characters like Jon Talbain or Bishamon.
& for the people saying "he was going to be on my team! :,(" well no where did it say that he was in the game whatsoever so you got your own hopes up for nothing, just like the people saying "omgz I cant wait for Hsien Ko!!!" after Niitsuma said a thousand times that there will be NO more Darkstalkers characters. & when Hsien Ko doesn't show up they're all gonna rage like kids.
For all the smart ones here congrats. For all the people who are getting mad i gotta say strider and all the other "deconfirmed" characters are mostly old news that have not been in a game in years. At all. MvC3 is for all the newer faces and characters from the franchise that have become important, not has-bins from a bygone era. And i agree that if you want these characters buy the MvC2, it is very cheap and has all the nostalgic characters you can ask for without any balance at all. So chill out, capcom finally made MvC3 for all the people who wanted it, not so they can be bitched out about literally every single thing they do. Darkstalkers fits. Maybe not felicia(seriously felicia?!), but the whole series is darker in tone and mood then some of the others so it makes sense. And there are so many serious characters in MvC3 already, its good to have a change of mood when you play as dante chris and ryu and you need a little laughs so you pick deadpool arthur and viewtiful XD. I was given the impression it was the most badass and popular capcom characters pitted against the most badass marvel characters! Guys..."Not fitting in" is a blanket concept that Capcom uses for PR reasons because they don't want to piss people off by outright saying "We just couldn't fit him in because we chose ______" instead.
The way these games are made, you're always going to be hurting someone's feelings when you include Character X but not Character Y. If they give a BS reason like "the character doesn't fit the concept", that sounds better than saying that they just didn't want to put him in, even if that excuse doesn't mean anything at all.
And of course it sounds 1000 times better than saying "Yeah, we cut him out to use as DLC later because we KNOW that you'll pay extra for him".
It's all about PR, people.
Here's the thing:
1. capcom does not own all the rights to strider
2. strider is not popular anymore (the latest most wanted capcom characters from jpn did not even have him on their list)
3. he apparently didnt fit in with the game

I agree with you. The characters I use in MvC2 was Cammy, Guile, Jill/Ruby Heart. But since Dante and Trish will be in MvC3, I was happy because they're my favorite DMC characters. Even though it might not happen, I wish Lady from DMC3 was in it because that would complete my mains.

Man...that's a low blow for me. Strider's design and background made him my favorite ninja ever. Great manga series too. I'm surprised Capcom couldn't use him given that Moto Kikaku and themselves have joint ownership over the character.
The game look sweet but the personalitiy isn't there. I respect the developers intent but they need to see the opportunities of bringing back dormant franchises back too.
im not a strider player BUT characters like him, captain commando and mega man really made the vs series so cool because they aren't your typical street fighters. he should have had an automatic spot because he was in mvc1. its so stupid breaking peoples teams up especially if they appeared before mvc2. some choices are good but not having strider is dumb. you want your past fans that supported these fighters to come back but capcom thinks because we played mvc2 for so long that there going to be able to pull the same thing again with new characters. im down with new guys but why not the classic characters as well?

The way I see all this is simple... Though not fully confirmed... Every character that has been disconfirmed thus far is only for official disc roster... Perhaps in the future if DLC characters are still being made for this game... Strider and many others that did not make the cut for official disc roster will make it.

If you want to compare, Zero and Strider have (pretty much) the same "role" in a team, the Glass Cannon, BUT I know alot, ALOT of people who really wanted Strider in MvC3 because of his unique moveset and playstyle, and because they used him as a main in BOTH MvC titles.
In my, and my friend's opinions, terrible decision. If they planned on having Zero be the Strider "replacement", *shakes head*

Nope. I find it strange his hair was normal in TvC and not in MvC3, but I, and every other Zero fan, can and WILL work past that. Things like that are small details, but I can understand the models for the Tigers and Hawk, that might take some time, but in the end it would be worth their while, i'm sure.

But wait, new Bionic Commando is more suitable for this than Strider? This rendition of Spencer was in one worst selling games in Capcom's run. On top of that, "Strider Hiryu" was also in a manga by Moto Kikaku that ran when the initial game hit arcades in Japan.
Again, this won't stop me from getting the game but that (albeit, translated) reasoning for not putting Strider in the game just doesn't add up. If they couldn't faithfully translate him in 3D in MvC3 with the time allotted, I could accept that, but would hope that this shortcoming would not DQ him from DLC in the future. I could also accept it if it was an issue with Moto Kikaku (such as asking for too much in residuals for his character), than I could understand this too, but would hope that he would come to his senses so Strider can be added to the game later. But when it comes to him fitting in in MvC3, he fit in just fine in the last two, so why woudln't here here. If they could make Amaterasu fit in with the asthetic in the game, Strider Hiryu would seem a far more likelier character to translate into this art style than Ammy or even Tron Bonne.
It could be an issue of character balance, since they already have a Pixie-type dash-n'-slash character in the form of X-23, and Ammy is definitely the combo-maniac on the Marvel side. My greatest hope is that these "Decomfirmed Characters" are only for the initial roster that comes in the game from jump. Since Capcom will probably be supporting MVC3 with DLC over the next few years, there is no reason that they can't spend that time figuring out how to implement Silver Surfer's board into his fighting style or adding fan favorites Gene (from God Hand), Phoenix Wright & most of all, the God-d@mned Strider.
I'll admit, I'm partial to this ruling cause I use the $hit out of him in every Marvel Vs. and for him to not be in this one is sending me back to the drawing board. At least I've got Morrigan...

Strider is obviously a bad choice to take out, and his gameplay can fit well in the game, duh just make changes that don't fit-make it better. Tron was a big disappointment to even make it in the roster, and both Morrigan and Felicia only one of them should of been in, there's other Darkstalkers better. Strider is better than Viewtiful Joe, Tron, Felicia,and Morrigan.. and possible other characters as well.
Now this game lacks a Ninja both Psylocke and Strider. NO... Deadpool don't count as a Ninja at all. If they get rid of old characters they should replace them with characters that are current. Trade Strider for another Ninja from Capcom or something.. Not for weak characters like Tron lol,,,

no its not the same i was using it as an example of alienating the cast and side effects, yes bigger ratio of popular characters to questionable ones this time around. Shotokans inclusion alone couldnt save sf3 and then chunli on 3rd strike. Just hopefully the balance between the old and new is better.
Man, if I had fans like this, I wouldn't be trying to please them, either. Just deconfirm characters and bask in their frustration.
Some of you (from both the more rational and more whiny perspectives) make good points. Personally, this one case doesn't change anything for me. I've found more than enough characters that tickle my peach, even with previous subjects of affection that don't appear to be making the cut. I'm only holding my breath for Hsien-Ko or B.B. Hood by this point, and neither of which look very likely. If they're not in, then no biggie.
The SF3 argument was interesting, mainly because there is truth to how an almost completely different cast can push people away, but then the people who really care still find characters they can enjoy and adapt to it. Hell, a new cast also has the added advantage of feeling fresh. Personally, I'd be pissed to see MvC3 dominated by characters from the first two titles, with how many characters both sides have to work with.

It's Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Gene from Godhand, Phoenix Wright, Gambit, Cyclops, Dr. Strange, Megaman X, Jon Talbain, Date Masamune, and probably some yet to be deconfirmed. I would not rage if it was just for one character, I did not rage when Ghost Rider said goodbye to the roster, even if I really wanted him, and so were some of the chars I listed abovee, but you can't just go around deconfirming fan favorites and expect everyone to be happy about it. Besides, Capcom needs to know when we are not pleased, otherwise they will keep doing BS decisions like this one

It's not so much that he's cooler, but more the nostalgia of it.
And why is it that anyone who complains is considered a scrub automatically? A person's reaction (or overreaction on my part) doesn't have much to do with their skill.
I'm tired of the word "scrub" being thrown around like it means nothing these days. You lose a fight? You're a scrub. You win a fight? Cheating scrub. You like Gen over Sagat? Scrub. Sagat over Gen? Scrub.

i believe tht this is a good idea for multiple reasons. in the tournament status the thing is no one really used him for mvc2. people only used chracters like magneto,storm,sentinel,cyclops,cable,and captain commando for assists only. So when capcom saw this they believe that he shouldnt be in the game of marvel vs capcom 3. im not trying to suck up at all to capcom. you got to be realistic.
And that's just the thing, the roster isn't even been announced yet but people are bitching. Are people unhappy about strider not getting in because of his playstyle or because they like the character. If you are unhappy because
of his playstyle then maybe a character will be announced that has a similar playing style just wait i'm sure this game will be great

Ah now you see but what you said there can be said for strider,jin,commando,dardevil,gambit,ghost rider vs who is on the current roster. The only one's i like out of those is strider and gambit i hate the other one's listed especially commando and ghostrider.

No one used him because he wasn't OP times infinity like MSP and the like. People didn't pick Mags, Storm, or Sent because they were cool. It was because they were extra OP and easy to win with. Speaking of which, I can't even watch an MSP mirror match without falling asleep before a minute in. Even Storm's constant OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH OH can't wake me up and make me watch another one of those matches. MSP is a crutch, same as the other OP teams.

when capcom brings a character back in from a previous entry they always try to rebalence them to the rest of the cast
Example: mvsc3 magneto looks toned down from mvsc2 because he was broken as could be
Ryu, wolverine and capt america as well as the rest of the previous cast from mvsc2 look stronger in mvsc3
Same goes for assists if stider got back in you can bet the doom/strider trap would not be in mvsc3

The only character from Rise of the Imperfects that is withing the characters I mentioned is Daredevil, and I did owned the game for GC, I like it and all, but MVC3 is a completely different level of experience, is I game I waited for 10 years, something I would not do with RotI.
Well, the chances of me buying this game just went down significantly. He was my favorite character by far and I actually used team clockw0rk.
How about this. We delay the game for a few more months so that we can put in Strider; complete with his screen-covering hypers which may or may not slow the game down during the match.
This reaction coming from a community that complains that there are more than enough Capcom heroes and not enough Capcom villains.
Don't get me wrong, I'm still gonna buy the game (unless it gets terrible reviews!), I'm still looking forward to it... but...
A. Terrible response! Thats really the best they could come up with to explain the lack of this popular character? What are you doing... trying to incite nerdrage?
B. The whole deadpool almost didn't make it in because someone accendently put him on the NO GO list really slashed some of my faith. A simple typo almost kept a highly popular character out of the game... makes me worry about the thinking behind the roster list!
But like I said, so far I think the game looks fun. Thats what really counts if you ask me!

Good. I want some new characters to play with anyway and all the MVC2 vets know where I'm coming from.
It's been 10 years since the last Marvel Vs,., as we all know. Negotiations and development for MvC3 have been ongoing for the last few years and being that Capcom had to build this game from the ground up (updated models from TvC withstanding), a whole lot has been considered on what the end result of this game will be. I have faith that the final product will be the game I've been hoping for this last decade and for the most part it appears to be. A mixture of old and new, MvC3 looks like a fairly new experience but clothed in the revival of nostalgia of games past.
When I mention final product, however, I don't mean the game that we're getting on Feb. 15th, 2011. This game will not be a done deal to me until all DLC support ends for MvC3 and/if they announce MvC4. It's clear that Capcom plans to expand this game over the next few years in character additions and other extra features as the months go by. Although, I'm not excited at the prospect of having to spend more money to keep up with the Joneses, knowing that old trappings of what we had to deal with fighting games past are no longer in issue in the internet age.
I'm not sure how many years the support cycle for this game will be, but I hope it's at least 5 years. In that amount of time, Capcom could double the roster and add many other characters in that time, including the ones that we've been asking for.
If the roster isn't what you we're hoping for, and you want to pass on the game, it's a justifiable reason. A fighting game greatest strength is it roster and it can make or break one's interest in that game. I can only hope that in time that those who pass on this game for that reason, give it a second glance once more characters come out for it. Capcom can't ignore these requests forever and I believe they'll come through on including some of those characters in the future.
In the meanwhile, my old team from MvC2 - Strider Hiryu, Jin Saotome & Chuck Nash: "The Dixie Cup Ensemble" - will have to get comfortable on the bench for the time being. Damn it all. ~_~

This is a game with dogs, 14 year old girls with robot suits, midget knights and super heroes, muscly green women, naked cat girls, demons with flaming heads, idiots with robot arms, idiots with robot SUITS, and a green, flaming, invisible, stretchy freak fit in, but not a freaking ninja?

I will remind all of you some things you NEVER have in mind when making comments about CAPCOM dont giving fans what they deserve
1. MVC3 its a business for them too, they are spending lots of money on this! They made a business plan long ago and its very obvious what they re aiming for.
2. The game has a concept... a very DIFFERENT concept than MVC2. Look what kind of characters they re choosing.
3. Most important of all: THEY WANT TO PUT NEW INTEREST in the NEW franchises. There wont be any Stryder's game in the future, or at least they think the character is over for now. Take MegamanX as an example... they know we want him in the roster, but they prefer fresh people...
Its like balancing the hardcore fans with the new fans they want to get. There are limits and we have to understand. We have to move on... anyway the game will be HARDCORE.

I am saddened, but I do like T.Bonne so I'm hapy she made it in.
I actually love Capcom's side so far, I'm just not big on Marvel's side. I wanted Rogue, or Magik, or Omega Sentinel, but got Shulkie and X-23. Might as well give us Sakura right? She played differently from Ryu in the vs games. Might as well give us Bison and Cammy becuz they have no similarities in fighting really.
The game still looks great, but out of Hiryu, Jin, and Capt. Comm. I thought that Hiryu would def. made it in as unlike the other 2, he doesn't have a giant Blodia robot or 3 partners assisting him in his supers.
Shame.
Still, here's hoping for DLC! Jin, Rogue, Hiryu, Hsien-Ko(if she's not already in), and Tessa from Red Earth!!!!

Wow, I would love to understand by "concept" what capcom is actually referring to. No offense, but having Tron Bonne, Arthur, Viewtiful Joe and Amaterasu are very much different from the regular full-sized humanoid cast. It would have been cool to have Strider in, he was a cool character, and he had a slew of original and slick movesets. Capcom is probably saving him as a downloadable character so we get charged for characters who should have been included in the game. storm's inclusion will make it or break it for me. Capcom's ignorance to satisfying their fans is getting really old.

Right. Some people like them better. Not everybody. And the fact that they have had newer games than Strider doesn't mean that he isn't popular at all. Strider's lower popularity comes from Capcom's unwillingness to reboot him or give him a sequel or even a damn port. And yet there they are putting Spencer in the game and I love the BC series, don't get me wrong, but which Spencer is it? NEW Spencer. The Spencer almost everyone HATES from a game people hate even MORE. My question is this, why does a stupid character from a bad game get to make the cut while a much more popular character from two GREAT games doesn't?
Worse yet, why does NEW Spencer take precedent over CLASSIC Spencer? WHO WOULD CHOOSE THE WORSE CHARACTER?
Anyway, I suppose I at least understand now that Zero seems to replace Strider, and hey, I love Zero. But why be lazy and convert a TVC character when you could give an older character a new lease on life? Hell, they already did it for Arthur, and that's something I'm truly grateful for. And here's the thing: Do you see how many people are pissed because Strider didn't make it? THAT'S his fan base. THOSE people deserve as much service as any other fan.
I love Capcom's games. Almost every one of them. I just think that some of the older series deserve attention. Like Magic Sword, or Three Wonders, or Power Stone.
Bring them back. Spit polish them. Make them new again.

I agree for the most part. As upset as I was, this is still going to be a great game.
But hey, some people are going to rage and whine, others are going to not care at all, and yet others won't let it faze them too much. Everybody has their reaction, and you can't stop people from losing it if that's the choice they make.
So I guess all I can say is this:
Let nature take its course. Most whiners will come around. Some wont and will refuse to play the game. No biggie. If YOU like the game, it doesn't matter one damn bit if other people kick and scream over it. So just kick back, relax, and play the games you love with the friends who get it.
And don't forget to smack around an over-confident scrub every once in a while. :D

EVER1 SIGN A PETITION!!! and telling us 2 play mvsc 2 is not the same, watching every1 go on 2 stunning, marvelous 2.5d graphice and challenge new competitors while strider stays back in 2d sprites is like the dumb kid staying back while his friends go on 2 college(yea it is)
