Updated: Super Street Fighter 4 AE changes from Arcadia Magazine

Updated: Super Street Fighter 4 AE changes from Arcadia Magazine Update: Several changes, clarifications and additions have been added into this story. If you checked it earlier today, it's worth looking over it again.

Here's a list of changes for Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition that showed up recently in Arcadia Magazine, which were posted by this Japanese blog.

It's not a complete change log, and also doesn't go into deep detail on some of the things that have been altered, but here's the rundown regardless.

Abel


• All of the previous changes listed here were stated again, including the Tornado Throw damage reduction, roll move losing some of its invincibility and the Ultra 2 (Breathless) nerfs.


Adon


• Close Medium Punch has 8 more frames of hit stun, can Cancel into Light Jaguar Kick and Link into Rising Jaguar.

• Standing Medium Kick hitbox buffed, can now be used as an anti-air.

• EX Jaguar Tooth has more projectile invincibility, and doesn't flash until he hits the wall (so you can't tell whether it's EX or not until he bounces off the wall).

• Wakeup time changed.

• Air Light Jaguar Kick can Link into Rising Jaguar on hit. This translation may not be 100% correct.

Akuma


• Akuma's Close Hard Punch into Teleport into Ultra 2 now hits on crouching opponents.

• Medium Punch Shoryuken invincibility increased.

• Air Hurricane Kick isn't as good at escaping corner trap situations. This is the same nerf done to Ryu's Air Hurricane Kick.

Blanka


• EX Electricity has a 5 frame startup, which is 5 frames faster than it was in SSF4. EX Electricity now has the same startup time as Light Punch Electricity.


Cammy


• All of the previous changes listed here were stated again. Here's what else was discovered.

• Hard Kick Cannon Drill does less damage.

• Far Standing Hard Punch Linked into Crouching Medium Punch is now possible.

• Crouching Light Punch, Link into Crouching Medium Punch, Link into Crouching Medium Kick is possible as well.

Chun-Li


• Her Down-Forward + Light Kick now has a 12 frame startup, making it 2 frames slower than it was in SSF4.


Dan


• Close Medium Punch is +8 on hit, up from +6.

• Close Hard Kick is +6 on hit, up from +2.

• Crouching Light Kick into Standing Light Kick, Cancel into Shoryuken now connects.

• Shoryuken is considered mid-air after the invincibility frames.

• Medium and Hard Dan Kicks do less damage.

• Neutral Jump Hard Punch now juggles against mid-air opponents.

Dee Jay


• Air Slasher has three less frames of recovery, or it takes less time to charge it up. Translation is rough here.

• Medium Kick Jack Knife has hit invincibility on startup; you can combo an anti-air Medium Kick Jack Knife into Hard Kick Jack Knife now, like you could in Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo.

• Crouching Hard Kick (Slide) has more active frames.

• The first hit of Standing Medium Kick has a 5-frame startup and can link from crouching light normals.

• Dash properties changed, making it easier to do a Ultra 2 after dashing.

• Dread Kicks (Double Rolling Sobat) offer more frame advantage to allow more follow ups after Focus Attack Dash Canceling the first hit.

Dhalsim


• Normal move damage has been revised. Some decreased, some improved, some left alone.

• Backdash is improved.

• Crouching Medium Punch improved, can Link into another Crouching Medium Punch and other moves as well.

Dudley


• EX Ducking added, has faster movement and faster followups (Straight, Upper).

• Crouching Medium Kick had more active frames.

• Toward + Medium Kick has a faster startup time.

• EX Short Swing Blow has less recovery.

El Fuerte


• His Ultra 2 is now 4 frames, one frame slower than it was before.


Fei Long


• First two hits of EX Rekka Kens are now safe on block.


Guile


• Close Toward or Back + Hard Kick (Sobat) now can avoid crouching attacks.

• Sonic Hurricane damage nerfed.

• Air Throw startup time increased to 4 frames. Was 3 frames in SSF4.

Hakan


• Oil Slide now has a kick follow-up, which gives you enough time after the Oil Shower to do wake up attacks.

• Oil Shower stacks now, i.e. it keeps adding to the time the oil stays on Hakan. Can last up to 30 seconds now.

• Standing Light Punch, Crouching Light Punch or Toward + Light Kick, Light Punch Oil Slide now combos.

• Standing Hard Punch and Toward + Light Punch seem to work well as anti-airs.

Ibuki


• Ibuki's Kunai does 30 damage, down from 50.

• Neckbreaker does 120 damage, 200 stun, down from 140/250.


Ken


• Crouching Hard Kick is now 7 frames, down from 8 frames, which should enable you to combo into his sweep.

• Target Combo hits crouched opponents now and has increased damage.

• Light Punch Shoryuken's recovery increased.

Makoto


• It was specifically mentioned that Makoto's dash is faster, taking 16 frames to complete. Now she's tied with with Abel, Gouken and El Fuerte for the fastest forward dash.


M. Bison


• Ultra 2 is now a charge command, now does 450 damage, up from 420.

• Knee Press Nightmare (Super) is now projectile invincible.

• Standing Hard Kick does 110 damage at the base, but only 80 if you hit with the tip of your foot.

Ryu


• Shoryuken's efficiency changed.

• Normal moves revised.

• Air Hurricane Kick isn't as good at escaping corner trap situations.

• Rough translation: In the situation where Light Punch Shoryuken trades, due to its air hitbox, Hard Punch Shoryuken seems to be a better option for situations where people try to escape.

Rose


• Rose's Soul Satellite has no invincibility, but now the orbs have a 4-frame startup. This was previously listed as 7 frames before, although that is incorrect, as the orbs start up in 4 frames in SSF4. It's unknown what this change means still.

• Soul Spark meter gain reduced.

Sagat


• Tiger Uppercut does 20 more damage now.

• Angry Scar input is now the kick button.

• Second hit of Standing Light Kick now does 30 damage instead of 10?

Sakura


• Reduced recovery time on Close Medium Punch.

• Far Standing Medium Punch is Cancelable.

• Improved hitboxes on Far Standing Medium Kick.

• Improved backdash, but this was the same change that was done with most of the cast members.

• Fireball's charge time decreased.

Seth


• Seth lost his Jumping Hard Punch.

• He now has 800 health and 900 stun.

• Hyakuretsu (Spin Kicks) damage increased.

• Ultra 1 can get hit by projectiles after starting.

• Super move now has pursuit property (will always hit properly as anti-air, all hits should connect), and is invincible to strikes on startup.

T. Hawk


• EX Condor Dive can now be done as an individual attack, performed with all three kicks, it's projectile invincible and can be done on a back jump.

• Ultra 2 has a faster startup and better hitbox.

Vega


• Crouching Medium Kick starts up in 6 frames, down from 8 in SSF4.

• Ultra 2's startup time increased.

• Hop Kick is now vulnerable to throws when performed from close range.

• EX Rolling Crystal Flash is +4 on hit now.

Zangief


• EX Banishing Flat (Green Hand) is now +1 on grounded opponents, but doesn't knock down.

• Ultra 2 can now be controlled with the joystick, holding in a direction will likely control Gief to some extent after activating.

• Light Punch Spinning Piledriver has more range, does more damage.

Hold on - this means if I get counter hit optionselect ex gh for the knockdown I am +1, so I can whiff at least 3 gh and push my opponent to the other side of the screen / corner and/or ambiguous jump with the shorter short jump? Zangief is the new Fei long lolz

Sounds like you can direct ultra 2 after the flash, which would be great. Even if two players stand next to each other, they neutral jump and you jump straight up and ultra it will whiff unless they are right up in your grill

Dictator buffs aren't really buffs at all, good ones anyway.

Charge command on ultra 2 takes away it's "Scariness" almost completely, and his EX moves are still too good to save it for super (which is still a charge) to get through a fireball.

Plus less damage on s.hk as AA.

I really think that slowing down Adon's wake up is lame. That's part of what makes him special. He's not overpowered by any means, but when you fight him you gotta keep his fast wake up in mind.

And EX jaguar tooth "buff" won't help at all. This move is so bad to begin with, I never ever use it unless I play against a complete noob and I wanna troll around. Or occasionally for movement purposes. Adon is alright right now, with his flaws and strenghts, but AA s.mk will be sweet.

If anything, they should improve invincibility on heavy rising jaguar. I don't get it why ppl say it's OP, it gets stuffed clean/trades 60% of the time. (EX is pretty good though).

And Bison, after all this time they still don't know how to balance his s.hk. Maybe it was too strong in Vanilla, I'm cool with that. But it's already pretty alright in Super. I won't complain about it though 'cause Bison is really strong anyway. Glad they don't nerf the crap outta him.

If you followed the blogs about char updates you will notice that this list is just the tip of what changes. Char nerfs or buffs overall cant be critisized with this list

Wow, great Deejay changes. With the recovery buff on his air slasher and the changes to his sobats his combo potential has increased. Hopefully they can make some changes to his ex machinegun upper.

I dont understand the Deejay dash change. But all I'm hoping for is that he can more easily EX Machinegun into Dash Ultra 2 midscreen. Trust me that sh!t is hard as hell and nobody does it because its so unreliable. If they made his dash timing into ultra as easy as Guile's then maybe Deejay's ultra would be seen more.

Hmmm...is sonic hurricane going to be easier to setup as a trade for doing less damage??? It's not like it was doing 600 or anything, why would bisons damage get buffed when it has more setups?

Not happy about airthrow being nerfed:(...wow i hope they buff a good amount of his combo potential because i dont think those are the only things they will nerf unfortunately what with so many people whining despite this guiles similarity to vanilla.

Well at least his st. MK will be a proper AA and his cr. MP will be easier to combo off.

His EX Risning knee needs more invunrability IMO
And i would like more consistancy with his Jaguar kicks hitbox when an oponent is in the air. It wiffs way too many times when it clearly shoulnt.

liking the Guile changes. they didnt massacre him at least. i thought they were going to eliminate meter gain when throwing booms, but they didnt. no other very scary changes to him, negatively or positively. Though i dont know how the frames on his air throw will affect him. can anyone explain it to me? and what do you think about dan? better or worse?

No one liked guile, so why did the give deejay a much better projectile, while buffing his aa? it's not fun to just jump over projectiles the entire match, then get punched as you come down.

Seth only has 1 good ultra now, since u1 has lost all of its uses. the 50 stamina is not worth the loss of hp.

I thought Capcom would do right with SF4...I guess I shouldn't assume anything.

Those bison changes are nerfs, not buffs. The point of U2 was to shut down fireball games, now it won't. That's a HUGE nerf. Dic will never land the ultra anyway, so a damage increase is irrelevant.

I HATE Boxer. I just do. He's so raunchy, and ape like, and annoying. (not to mention frustrating to fight)
But when I played SSF2 and played Dee Jay? I was like FINALLY A BLACK CHARACTER I LIKE.

And now he's getting the treatment he deserves.

The balancing won't make ANY difference, it's learning how to adapt to beating specific char's with the char your using and theres ALWAYS a way.

But seriously...saying it won't affect anything is quite stupid. Seth's 6/4 that revolved around zoning (chun li), will be a 5/5 since he can't hold them back. Dudley, Deejay, and Adon's buffs change the way you're gonna need to play against them...so yes, they have made a difference.

Ryu can't escape corners...but I guess that's the same too. It won't make him harder to use.

why do they take things away from characters that make them unique? They took away Gen's unique jump arcs in super and now they take away Adon's wake-up time. It really didn't make him OP. It made you wary of trying some offensive mix-ups. An I hope they can give gen's unique jump arcs back though I highly doubt it. I thought it made his cross-up game better. We shall see what other changes made it in for every character.

I'm liking most of the changes from those that haven't been done yet in the blog like Dudley. I though Hakan would get more but of course this isn't the full list of changes.

At number #19. Wat r u talkin about.? The ex jag tooth buff will def help his projectile defense..especially when ur opponent is in the corner...which is a place all adon players shud put their opponents. Sure they nerfed his wakeup time..but it probably isn't that big of a nerf...plus he has the fast dash to help him when he wakes up and ex rising jag. The only thing I wish capcom wud do is up the combo damage in U2 like they did for makotos U1. U2 is heavily scaled in combos...even with a full revenge bar

Why nerf Dan when he should be buffed? At least let him usable to troll players online... And for people that like him have some fun playing him.

This is just killing him to the point that the roster gets reduced.

I don't understand this phobia from Capcom of making Dan a solid character. Yes he's supposed to be a joke... But does he really has to be so weak because of that? He's a playable character, it's a game feature... Let him be so far away from other character's advantages makes no sense...

Most people don't like him because he's bad... People like the character itself.

Really wanted to see Chun get something to deal with characters jumping in. Oh well. Her changes are not to drastic thank god. People talk like she is some beast of a character......I just don't see what the complaining is all about. People talk like just anyone can pick her up and lay the smack down on people when that is not the case at all.

The DP nerf for Sagat and Cammy was mitigated by boosting their air damage. It would make no sense to boost that even more.

Also: 180 damage + an eventual Counter Hit?

• It doesn't really matter what we did to Blanka, because he is now more of a joke than Dan was.

• Beast Roll is no longer an option.

• Hop is no longer practical at close range.

• EX Electricity is now a slightly better way to waste an ex meter.

• Blanka still doesnt have a good up close 3 frame poke since WE ALL HATE YOU BLANKA. STAY IN YOUR HOLE.

They'd have to make it pretty damn quick for that to happen, or make it's startup invincible or throw invincible (which wouldn't help if you got LK'd from a crouch teching opponent).

The Seth matchup is infinitely better with J HP gone IMO. I only toy with Seth but the fight will certainly be more difficult for him I think. The Super buff doesn't help you at all though. Seth is very likely to get a full super in a Gief match, and God forbid you make a mistake jumping in. That's what, 330 damage and back to full screen?

What do they mean EX Jagaur Tooth has "more" invincibility?

Didn't realise it had any.

To make the move even viable it needed to have it's hitbox improved and the recovery of the short and medium versions to be almost instant.

Ok maybe "won't help at all" was too much. But I just think Adon is alright as he is right now. In fact the game is pretty cool as it his right now. I wouldn't mind having to deal with what we have without further balance.

Maybe we just don't have the same style of play. Jaguar Tooth is just almost useless to me at the moment, that's all.

Well, I recently made up a poll in my head that says EVERYBODY hates Vega!

Isn't that great? Now EVERYONE agrees with me! I'm so happy because now Capcom is going to take him out of the game because everyone thinks the same way I do! No one can possibly claim to like Vega anymore. It's a law of nature because I say it is and because I don't like him.

So yeah, NO ONE LIKES VEGA. Bow to my factual opinion.

Apparently there are more ryu nerfs because daigo said at the kuwaitt challenge that he'll be switching to ken, yun , and makoto.

As a sagat player hopefully we'll get a few more buggs, slightly faster walk speed

I don't think that's too much a nerf for dan, the juggling capability of J.HP might open up some interesting options, and you still have the awesome LK Dankukyaku!!!!

I am having troubles with Zangief as well.....
If anyone can help me with this I would be GREATLY appreciated.....

Here is my problem. Ex: Chun Li Vs. Zangief.....
Playing Chun Li, I jump in and do a fierce punch attack. We know that Chun Li has a double hit fierce punch attack, but how is it that Zangief is able to grab me into a spinning air driver before the second punch even gets off? Am I missing something? It seems like trying to take a offensive shot with him, he can just grab me before I can start a heavy offensive chain. I am no expert at SF, but if anyone has tips on how to prevent this from happening would be greatly appreciated! thank you;)

I guess now we should stop dreaming and talk seriously a moment guy!.I believe (just an opinion) For those who still are dreaming about characters DLC (sold via network) should come back to planet earth. if these characters (the 6,yun&yang included or just yun&yang)might be playable at home so maybe we should wait for a nw game "post the arcade thing".They will PROBABLY release a whole new game with all these new characters and new changes for all characters. its impossible to play with the yun and yang of the arcade edition without having to bother for the other characters (impossible to extract them from the whole new game with these changes)...
i just think we should maybe wait for a new game "the arcade edition" in ps3 or xbox

The Dan trading damage for combos is fair. I don't really think he got buffed or nerfed. Its just a balanced trade, but I think it'll make him more fun.

I hope Hakan didn't get too good... I kinda like being the only person who uses him...

If there is one game I KNOW I wouldn't give in to buying, it's a NEW release for a game that's DLC material AT BEST.

I love the new content, but if Capcom wants to alienate some fans, they'll release AE as a new game.

I don't think it's cool to say "THEY CHANGED IT I WON'T BUY IT butsecretlyiwill", so I hate to say it: I will not buy AE if they make it a disc release. It is not worth $40 more of the little money I have to spare for games.

It's a $20 DLC IMHO.

Unless EX Ducking is at least as fast as Light Ducking and as far as the hard version, I'm not sure Dudley will be boosted very much by this. More active frames on mk sweep wasn't exactly what he needed, and making a pretty useless EX-move only slightly less useless isn't really a meaningful buff. Faster F+MK is pretty sweet though. Wish Capcom would love him as much as they love Dee-Jay, but I guess he isn't charge enough :(

Okay, did Dan just get nerfed in exchange for a boost in combo ability. That can't be fair! They should only add to Dan's arsenal, decreacsing his damage is making usage for his moves useless and the only useless move Dan has is not even a move in his moveset.
