Ono responds to new achievement images of Super Street Fighter 4

Posted by Jonathan 'Catalyst' Grey • November 28, 2010 at 11:42 a.m. PST
Ono responds to new achievement images of Super Street Fighter 4 Street Fighter 4 series producer, Yoshinori Ono responded to the achievement photos for Super Street Fighter 4 that were posted yesterday. Here's what he had to say.

I found these photos showing Yang and Yun in SSF4's achievements.

Ono: Yipe! What the hell was that? ;O

Please say those images are fake...

Ono: Is it almost completed for 360 ?! I'll check it to R&D room.

Does this mean Yun and Yang will be on Xbox 360?

Ono: We aim to please. ;D

[Editor's note: This last Tweet was made before the achievement photos were posted.]

Ono also fielded a few Street Fighter X Tekken questions.

Ono-san, please release a new gameplay video of SFxT.

Ono: Please wait until [the] season is warmer... ;P

Do you think you might get Okugawa, the guy who did Street Fighter 3's music, to do Street Fighter X Tekken's soundtrack?

Ono: SFxT's music is created by Fukasawa-san, [same person] as the SF4 series.

It's like I said in the first post, Capcom is a great company and was probably planning on giving us 4-6 new characters with the Arcade release and have these two be timed releases on the machine that were to remain top secret till after AE was out for awhile. Meaning 8 characters, which, with the other changes, gives AE the same level of upgrade nearly as Super. Sucks for them.

UNLESS this is a timed leak. Whose to know really? Also, can't wait for a level or two along with the new characters, buffs/nerfs, move inputs and Ultra costumes were seeing now. Ep! That's a lot. Well done Ono.

Shin Akuma is already sorta of a hidden boss. Evil Ryu, whatever. As long as they STAY hidden bosses, I'll be fine. I don't want more shoto clones eating up character slots than can be used to diversify the cast.

Still have my fingers crossed for Karin, Charlie, Q and Twelve. I prefer the underrated 3rd Strike characters, sue me...

@7 OdinReborn

While I agree with your protip, I really don't know what you're getting at regarding shoto-clones. I mean, I don't main T. Hawk, Hakan, Gen, Cammy or Makoto. So what? What kind of point are you trying to make, and how does that help it?

I'm a Rose player myself, and I'm sure there are plenty of people who main the characters above. It's just that there are way more people who play the shotos (which is unfortunate, IMO).

How is Gabe a troll? He never announced Ep. 3 and people like to paint him as a troll because they have blue balls and think they're entitled to the game right now. Most trolling by Valve I've seen is by Robin Walker on the TF2 blog. And that gets blamed on Gabe as well.

The music in SSF4 is flawless, period.

The new Seth Stage or even Juri's theme are some of the top SF tracks ever created.
Not to talk about all the top mixes of classic, new, Alpha and 3rd Strike character themes.

If there's something Capcom got right was the music.

SSF4 on Evo will need a low tier tournament just like MVC2.

Who is this "Oni" character? Judging by the white hair it's either Violent Ken or Shin Akuma (Capcom Vs SNK 2 Version). I know Violent Ken is a little far fetched, but then again Shin Akuma is already in the game. If they're two Shin Akumas it's kinda pointless.

If "Oni" is in fact Capcom Vs SNK 2's Shin Akuma he should have different Ultras. Most notably the Misogi, and maybe the Kongou Retsu Zan either as a Super or an Ultra.

Dammit...so Street Fighter x Tekken's soundtrack is going to be agonizingly unlistenable like the sh!t in Street Fighter 4.

#18
Kipper said on November 28, 2010 at 12:51 p.m.

@26

Last time I checked, Rose didn't have a Shoryuken or Hurricane Kick (though to be honest, what defines "shoto-clone" seems to be different for each person). Even so, she's quite different both in terms of gameplay and visual style. At the very least, she's much less of a shoto than Evil Ryu is.

I'd be pretty bothered if Evil Ryu got a character slot, because for me it's disturbing to have the same exact person (with some differences) in two slots. Please don't bring up mirror matches, because that's totally different.

i dont play much online but, since people fight ryu so many times online, shouldn't you be able to beat him more than 50% of the time you encounter one since he is heavily played and you should know his move list and what is expected by him? or is it just annoying fighting him all the time because he's easy for you?

Alright the way they should have Evil Ryu and Oni Akuma or Violent Ken or whoever as a transformation of sorts should be under the character that hey are like Evil Ryu is under Ryu but to pick him press like RB like in the DBZ games or press up on the character like to get Akuma in HD Remix

I like the SSF4 music too for the most part. People forget that 3S never had character themes per say, just stage themes. Ken & Alex, Yun & Yang, and Sean & Oro shared the same stages and music. Some of you dudes seriously just actively search for stuff to bitch about which is annoying.

At least complain about something worthwhile like why hasn't Capcom released a patch for the PS3 mic problem instead of "OMFG Makoto's bewbs aren't big enough".

Indestructible it's 0,01 of SF4 and 0,00 of SSF4 soundtrack, talking about that track to try to justify the opinion that SSF4 soundtrack is worst than 3rd Strike, it's hilarious.

tokyobassist showed another good point, adding to the fact that SSF4 soundtrack is flawless of course.

Maybe if SSF4 only had stage theme's... We could even argue about it, but don't, SSF4 has a lot more music content than that. And by more I'm talking about 35 perfect remixed character themes. Some more original themes...

I love 3rd Strike but try to even compare it music wise, with SSF4 it's pathetic. SSF4's soundtrack is by far, better. Fact.

Hell no, (S)SF4's soundtrack suck because they remixed all of the classic themes. Had they left them alone, I'd be dancing to Dudley's theme as we speak. On a more serious note, I did enjoy C.Viper's Godlike theme song. That all I can really say.

Anyway, in terms of soumdtrack, 3rd Strike(Alex, Gill, Akuma, Dudley, etc) and Capcom vs. SNK 2(every stage) are where it's at with a bit of SF2(Fei Long, Ryu, Guile, etc) and Alpha(Bson/Akuma, and Vega) here and there.

Von_Kunlun_BOOF said on November 28, 2010 at 1:46 p.m.

@MR CLACK! (I like caps)

I feel like making a list. Lists are fun to fuss over :D

Ryu - 5, Carries the same feel as it did in SF2T with something new.

Ken - 2, Tried something new and it didn't work. HD remix had his best theme.

Chun Li - 3, Her 3rd Strike theme is like a 9-1 match-up; hard to beat.

E.Honda - 5 SUMO RAVE PARTY!!!

Blanka - 4 It has a nice sound to it.

Zangief - 4 Starts out slow, but gets good.

Guile - 3 This theme doesn't go with everything :/

Dhalsim - 2 Never like any of his themes

Balrog - 5 It's got the same sound as HD Remix, but better.

Vega - 5 Beatiful Theme. No pun intended :p

Sagat - 2 Less boring version that what it's been, but still meh

M.Bison - 3 Not as evil as I would like it to be, but it's good. I prefer the Brave or Grave theme from Alpha.

C.Viper - 5 Definitely dig the way it sounds. makes getting my butt whooped by her less painful.

Rufus - 1 Hate it, nuff said.

El Fuerte - 5 Pure Mexican sound. I live in Arizona and we don't have much of that anymore :p

Abel - 5 Sounds more badass than the way he looks (Other than Alt. 2)

Seth - 2 Typical boss theme. not good or bad

Akuma - 3 Fits him good, but it could have been better.

Gouken - 4 I like the flute, makes the sound feel powerful and wise at the same time.

Cammy - 2 I never really like Cammy's theme.

Fei Long - 5 This is just perfect. I would rate it higher. Easily one of the best themes in the game.

Sakura - 4 I like the violin and it has a good, youthful sound to it.

Rose - 5 This one has always been a favorite of mine. I like how it goes up and down, up and down.

Gen - 4 Sounds sinister and dark

Dan - 3 This has been said many times, but I'll say it again, It sounds like porn music.

T.Hawk - 4 It reflects the warrior that T.Hawk is and has an Indian sound that is not Mexican, but Aztec.

Dee Jay - 1 Always thought Dee Jay's theme was annoying to listen to. Still is.

Guy - 3 If I was watching a cop show, then hell yes! Not good fight music.

Cody - 2 Never been one for rap/Hip hop (Whatever it is). Would have preferred his Alpha 3 theme instead.

Ibuki - 2 3rd Strike theme was better.

Makoto - 2 3rd Strike theme was better.

Dudley - 2 3rd Strike theme was better. If I would have known what he was going to become in SSf4, I would have wanted him to stay. He's just not the same. He doesn't even say "CROSS COUNTER!" in SSF4 T.T

Adon - 5 Definitely LOVE the guitar. Right at the top with Fei Long's theme.

Hakan - 2 His original trailer theme was a 5... don't know why they went wrong choosing this slow and stupid theme.

Juri - 5 Sounds evil and psycho just like her. One of the best ones here.

i didnt mind the music in ssf4 too much, but it doesnt seem to have an impact. For example people putting guile theme onto random videos, overdone, but the theme has an impact. Hearing that classic balrog theme from sf2 makes you wanna mimic rogs stance. All the ssf4 version of songs lack that, maybe due to them modernizing it.

#49
Kaizy said on November 28, 2010 at 1:52 p.m.

Not fact, opinion.
And it is my OPINION that third strike music is way better. It has jazzy numbers with hip-hop roots and then you have songs like Ryu/Ibuki's stage which are just raw and natural. The beats are superior and it even has 100x better character select and hip-hop main theme.

#50
powderedtoastman said on November 28, 2010 at 2:04 p.m.

SF2 music is gold. Every theme suits every character. Some are downright classics such as ken, guile, cammy, and chunli.

SF3 music is in a word: "chill". It's something I can lay back in the car and listen to every song the same. Love Dudley's, Makoto's, Yun/yang/jamesbond, and even Elena.

SF4 music is very diverse. So people are gonna be divided. There's always gonna be songs people hate, but others will be loved. There's electric guitar rock, techno, autotune, hiphop, dance, psychotic, and porn music.

So there's your un-controversial opinion of the day =)

once again, instead of adding 2 of the same characters, they can itegrate it so that they can change into evil or shin by pressing down and taunt, like guile does. it would ONLY change their looks, not their strengths, moves, hitboxes or anything.
or they can add it as the 13th color. like sakuras alt1 color 9, she looks different with onlt the yellowish shirt on.

I dislike hip hop, never really been my cup of tea. 3rd strike game music was terrible for the most part, although I did like dudleys and elenas music. Alot of people don't appeal to rap or jazz, but original sf2 music was god like across the board.

Another thing I'd like implemented is when you're low on health for the music to play faster like on SF2, that always got the adrenaline going in a real close match

#66

You absolutely CANNOT say that ssf4 music is better than sf3. That is not a fact. It's called an OPINION. And it's my OPINION to say that 3rd Strike music is way better than ssf4's damn techno crap. 3rd Strike's drum beats and smooth jazzy melodies automatically makes it better than ssf4 music. I do like some of ssf4's music(sakura, guy, makoto, solar eclipse, drive-in, ibuki, rose) but others I just can't stand to hear it anymore(ryu, akuma, ken, deejay, the rest of the stage themes,) So don't say that what you said is a fact because it's not.

It is a fact, compare opinions, reviews, popularity and professional details from people that know about videogame music. And you'll see it is a fact that SSF4 OST it's easly superior. Even some "original" themes alone are superior.

Because you don't agree it doesn't change the obvious true and facts that exist about both games. Your opinion can't do nothing about it.

I love 3rd Strike, and I probably like it better than SF4 but this "Legion" of people that try to put every 3rd Strike feature above SF4 just because it is 3rd Strike, it's getting old. 3rd Strike it's great, but on a lot of points SSF4 crashed most of SF games released at this point. That's why the huge success and hype around the game. Trying to compare 3rd Strike OST to SSF4 OST it's pathetic.

And it's not about opinions. 2D or 3D depends on opinions... They are just graphic styles. And I prefer 2D. Sountracks don't, soundtracks are all about music quality. Therefore we can always see which is superior, have better quality.

judgespear said on November 28, 2010 at 5:25 p.m.

Third Strike's music was appropriate for Third Strike. Third Strike was meant to be a grittier game that applied the whole "Street Fighting" concept to the actual design of the game. All the stages took place in street corners and more realistic looking settings as opposed to the more thematic settings (like having a bunch of people standing there doing something to represent the country they're in, or fighting in front of elephants or a jet taking off, etc.).

The music was intentionally chosen to be hip hop and a mix of jazz, and I guess you can say "street music" to represent the grittier street fight settings. The music wasn't all rap though. It depended on the stage. Remy's stage took place in a club, and appropriately had club music.

Third Strike used music as sort of ambiance, where the music of the other Street Fighters typically had the music to emphasize the characteristics of a certain character or country, etc.

Blah blah blah, video game is liek so kewl. Nothing more gratifying than the MIDI-synth techno beats that sounds like it was composed by a thousand homo DJs in Street Fighter 4, yessir.

How can everyone complain about MvC2 music and then turn around and say 3S had a great soundtrack? Late nineties J-Rap and hotel Jazz is your idea of GREAT music?

At least admit that SFII music is heroic and battle driven and amazing, without getting all Hipstery, "3S is the best" here.

Also for everyone complaining about "techno" music in SFIV. Your a stone-cold liar if the Mortal Kombat or Guile theme's don't make you move your feet.

Don't forget your roots.

Which MK game?

And if Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma reach that level through a basic taunt but the movelist doesn't change what the eff is the point of including them.

Does NO ONE understand that Ono said the list is FAKE?

EVIL RYU and ONI AKUMA and whoever else is not real. It is FAKE. ONO doesn't even come close to saying it is real.

@ Kenshiro

what is the point of having 2 of the same characters in a game? the only thing that the character goes through is a "change", change of emotions, feelings, strength and so on. BUT ITS STILL THE SAME CHARACTER!!!!! and if you get your "Evil" Ryu, why cant I get my shin Dan, smelly Dan, emotionally suicidal Guile, horny Sakura, goofy Ryu, T-virus infected Gen, fungus on his lip Zangief, drunken aboxcious ken who calls Elizas mother at 2:34AM to complain about why his wife is horrible in bed and slightly overcooks the food, preganant cammy who is in labor during the fight, retarded blanka with druel and then starts sh!ttin and pukin at the smae time...see how that sounds stupid? i know i listed some riduculous ones but thats beside the point. (although i wouldnt mind horny sakura)

Seriously though

KOF 06 has two versions of Terry and Kyo. Varying moveset and design though.

This game doesn't need to be turned into Mugen crap.

@NINJA

Not to start anything but, the way I see it... No matter what anyone says about video game music.. It is opinion and nothing more. Does not really matter if the creators say that it is good or not... It will forever just be opinion. Unless one day.. Everyone agrees that a certain soundtrack is good.. It will never be true. Now I do admit SSFIV's soundtrack is nice and so is 3S. They will constantly have their fans but in the end... There is no fact that one is superior to the other. Just thought I would put that out there. You never know.. There may be people who believes that both soundtracks are awful.. But it would not make them any more right or wrong than you or me.

"35 perfect remixed character themes"

I would say its pretty close, but not all 35 are perfect. Akuma should have had Killing Moon, but besides that you may be right, although I was hoping for Bison's mix to sound similar to his HD Remix beat

SaikyoRyu said on November 28, 2010 at 7:13 p.m.

I agree with gammabolt17. I think there's a lot of good SF4 and SSF4 themes and remixes. Not all are good - but a fair amount. I listened to third strike and SF2 themes and.. they just didn't sound as good to me.

Maybe it's because I played hear SFA3 and SF4 themes first but I like the SF4 series best with SFA3 close (or better in the case of Dan's, Vega's, Cody's and Rose's themes).

Ugh, Fukasawa is not a bad composer, it's just that his themes really suck to me. To my ears, SFIV's music is crap.

Evil Ryu and Shin Akuma might just be CPU-controlled characters and hidden bosses. They might not be playable at all... anyways, they would have extremely low health if they were to be playable.

@cvs

ssf4 cant be hacked for one simple reason: its not out on pc and it wont be because sf4 was pirated a bunch of million times by broke motherfu(kaz who cant afford to get off their A$$ and get a fu(kling job. you fu(king cheepskates keep playing your old copy of sf4. thats right and then to sh!t on it some more they hack the game like you suggested disgracing it even further. for you ppl who bought it legitimately and cant play ssf4 on pc, blame the pirates, sons of b!tches. and even if you do hack the game and put a skin of shin akuma on him, it may look good but for the fact that its been hacked just makes me not wanna play it OR considder it "shin akumay" cuz it just wast part of the original game. aint no telling what else is hacked besides just skins...hitbox, frames, stamina, speed...aha now we gettin somewhere.
