If you know they gonna hop thru you dash towards them first and do a low attack, which hitting them enough times will get them to stop. If they are the typical scrubby blanka players its better for them to do hop electric than ball spamming, matches get boring constantly punishing whiffed rolls.

So what does it mean if the recovery on block is going to be shortened for the beast roll? Does that mean it's easier or harder to punish?
Also I read that the distance the ball goes backwards after block will differ depending on which punch button you press.

it means u will be able to prob walk up ultra it. in loc test they said sakura was able to walk up and hit like low strong into a combo, so low something cancel ex hurrican kick ultra.
So... you can punish it with just about anything? Certainly most forward-moving Supers/Ultras seem to work.
Its really not the god tier move that scrubs make it out to be. Its really easy to punish, sometimes on hit. It really doesn't need to be nerfed.
best parts are the ones where the ball hits and he still gets punished. If ryu got punished for landing fireballs the capcom hq would have been overrun, but a move thats 90% of the time not safe gets cheers when its nerfed even more.

plus go back to the update page where it was confirmed to be nerfed and see all the people there celebrateing it as the best nerf so far because its safe on most of the cast.

I think it was nerfed because some characters have no real way to punish it, such as Chun-li. This video is deceptive because it shows Chun being able to dash forward and either st. mp or cr. hk a blocked blanka ball. This is only true if she blocked it from point-blank range. If there is any distance between Blanka and Chun on block, she can't punish unless she has ultra 1 or if Blanka was facing the corner.

The hop was nerf because if you hopped you could either do upball, which low hits are going to get destroyed by, or electricity, both of which beat out grabs. And the Blanka player always has the option to grab aswell. 3 available mix-ups from 1 knockdown is actually very ridiculous. Throw in a grab, no pun intended, and you have the true definition of rock-paper-scissors. No mix-up should be given more options than 2.
could be worse you could play gen. cant even link 2 jabs in crane no good wake up cause ex greiko trades with jabs no ex olga escape. what about vega and his epicly long recovery time on barcliona s*it start up time on rcf and his not an anti air scarlet terror. so a nerf to blanka ball gets you butt hurt, but your getting combo abilty same thing for vega getting a few nerfs to be able to play rushdown and have combos. not a bad trade plus the blanka ball now has a random factor on bounce back with punch strength. gen didnt get nerfs because they couldnt make him any worse and realy from reading the changes they didnt solve any of the major problems still gonna use him tho. point is if you like the character your still gonna use them. just drink some monster stay up a few nights gettin shat figured out in the lab. either way cryin isnt gonna solve your problem. its just gonna make you look emo.

Last time i checked gen and vega didnt get punished for landing an attack. ANd u want to talk about no reversal? Ex upball gets punised ALOT on hit. ANd combo ability? Wtf are u reading, there not improveing any of his main normals and the rock crusher "buff" isnt gonna mean dick since this isnt hes main combo starter and there not gonna improve the start up so jabs or throws will beat it.
for those who dont know, in this game, when you guard or get hit standing, you go less far than crouching.
against blanka, it allows more punish if you guards a roll while standing.
especially whith makoto, what he showed is not everything you can do:
after standing guard -> dash
-> ultra1
-> crMP -> hayate
-> crHP
I get people saying blanka ball shouldn't be nerfed after watching this video. But there's another side to it as well, in this video, he was showing how you could punish it. Sometimes it can be tough to react on it, and online, the lagg might throw you off the timing. So while it can be punished, it doesn't mean it does get punished like that.
So, because it can, does it mean is has to be nerfed to the point were it will be punished? No, it shouldn't be.
But if you're playing Blanka seriously, I can't help but feel that quitting the game because of this nerf... Well.

@chickenwings not every change for blanka has been released and yes gen can get punished on hit crane heavy kick on hit not to mention greiko that can be grabed on start up even on ex.also look at the distance on hit punish and the fact that most of the time super was used. at least you can use the blanka ball for a cross up. also it armor breaks unlike flying barcilona not to mention has a far better recovery time. im not saying blankas ball needed to be nerfed. and rock crusher isnt a combo starter but its an easy 2nd hit that now leads to jab and so follow it up.
Blanka is already so crappy that at high level play, he's only effective when played lame.
All his rush-down & offensive tricks only work on scrubs.
Pro Blankas just have to sit there and wait for opportunities to squeak in little bits of damage. Just watch any tourney videos of Realyst, Insaynne, Rahsaan, Choco etc.

This video really shows why Ryu is better than Ken. Ryu has so many ways to severely punish Blanka's roll. Ken has to use Ultra 2. I find that full Ultra 2 is much more difficult to land than full Ultra 1.
Although this video only shows Blanka's punishment, this is true for alot of other characters. It's easier to severely punish with Ryu.

LOL at the C.Viper part,nobody uses U2 OR Super because they SUCK and the super is a waste of meter. That super even MISSED one of the hits,great punish. I'm sure the pros will all start using that. The video makes her punish look so deadly....lulz. Also blankas should stop complaining about blocked UP balls being punished on block, because that is basically blanka's equivalent to a DP. Sure he can't focus cancel it, but T.Hawk can't focus his either so there.
Yes, Blanka must be played lame at high level to be good. Maybe he is just a lame character? And I don't necessarily say that as a bad thing. What I mean is, maybe that is legitimately how he is supposed to be played.
As has been previously stated... many of these punishes are only possible from point blank blanka balls, and those are rare and frankly retarded to pull out in most scenarios. This video is pointless.
Hopefully, with the ball-nerf, perhaps Blanka players will actually be getting good at this game. I main Dudley, and it's downright pathetic to see how bewildered 99,9 % of Blanka players get when they realize they can't spam that shi*ty ball against him.

silly question... blanka users will be upset about the ball being "even easier to punish" because "it is already easy to punish, so why make it even easier?" it's just like vega users (which i am) wondering why the hell capcom NERFS a character who isn't even that strong to begin with? it's stupid that they go out of their way to make "weak" characters weaker, and it's stupid that they make perfectly punishable moves, easier to punish - ensuring that the user pays a penalty for doing the move. meanwhile, they made Ken's small SRK HARDER to punish, while it was already hard to punish without anticipation - it's retarded.
anyway, about the video... aren't some of those punishes only able to be done because of how close the ball is being done from the start?

when i was new to SF4 i thought blanka's ball was hard to punish, but even on there it wasn't THAT hard. people complain on here way too much

Too bad you CAN'T really punish the ball with Ken's ultra 2 in most of the cases. Forward step kick isn't that reliable either...
I usually try to stop it with normals.
I hope the changes in AE WON'T make the ball useless, but at the same time I hope they will make it easier to punish when you predict it (with moves that SHOULD be able to punish it, like Ken's U2).

I don't get all the blanka ball hate. If you don't know how to punish it by now you may want to pick up a different game. What pisses me off is you can still get punished after using a tough combo with links (ending in ball), but crossing up and mashing electricity is safe most of the time.

Ken's LP Shoryuken SUCKED in Vanilla. It had no range, slow recovery, and often traded hits.
That's why they buffed it in SSF4.
However, in AE it will have 2 ADDITIONAL frames of recovery, making it easier to punish.

Like yourself, I usually try to stop it with short jab haha.. Sometimes, I'm also able to punish with Shoryu or some combo if we're close enough to the edge of the screen, but good Blanka's won't allow themselves to be cornered like that...

I don't think they did the right thing by nerfing blanka. It was already easy to punish to begin with. Most blanka's would try and fake a roll and then do the sliding move; very predictable. Or they would try and do a l.p. roll and grab. If you get beat by these simple tactics to begin with then your're a scrub. In high level play, blanka was never good anyways. Complainers are just noobs.
Why is everyone so defensive about blanka? It's blanka! He's one of the lamest characters in the game. Getting people to play anyone but blanka is a plus. I feel bad for people who played blanka straight up without the lameness but let's face it, that's just a small fraction of blanka players.

No matter how times you tell people that a character like Ryu, Cammy, Blanka and Bison isn't broken, they just believe what the want to believe and get characters nerfed for no reason. This game has lost too much credibility compared to other fighting games.

me droping the game has more to do with capcom actually listening to the online scrubs then nerfing. There dev team should know enough what needs improvements and nerfs but so far the nerfs we got look like they were taken right off gamefags or even this site and if capcom is seriously gonna let low level online players dictate the balance of the game im not gonna waste my time.
LOL @ all scrubs whining about this nerf. Christ. First, this video is BS, so don't use it as reference, ever. Many members of the cast have NO way of punishing a blocked Blanka Ball from further than point blank!
Second, all this means is basically that you can no longer spam Blanka balls from mid or full screen against half the cast. And chickenwings... ffs, don't talk about scrubs like you know anything and then compare a fireball to a Blanka Ball. A fireball thrown at the wrong range = a full combo, plus fireballs can be FADCed (BB is armor break) or avoided in a million other safe ways without losing position.
Third, "oh noes, it will be EASIER to punish us now :<" makes me laugh! Mainly because you actually believe 90 % of the cast even CAN punish you already, but also because it's such a scrubbish mindset. So, it's okay-ish for a move to be unsafe as long as the punishing is difficult? That's exactly what those Kens think who're spamming lp shoryus every match. "As long as my opponent suck I will win by doing this over and over" I think this mentality you guys have is seriously hurting your progress with this game... and I'm glad Capcom are doing this, so any character can deal with you morons accordingly, just like they can deal with the flowchart Ken.
...I perhaps should add that I absolutely think Blanka should've received buffs in other areas. He's too weak as he is now. Capcom did right to redesign his ball to be more consistent, but in return he should've gotten tools to deal with matchups he has troubles with now.

Also, pro Blankas aren't going to throw random balls. Obviously low level players who aren't adapting are the people that complain about this. Though I think the characters who have it worst are the grapplers. xD Blanka is known as the scrub killer for a reason.

I don't understand a lot of the complaining from Blankas. What I do understand is that your character didn't get many buffs, which is worth the complaint. However, I don't see why B Ball is worth complaining over.
The only reason to complain about it is if you are just counting nerfs, which is idiotic. What one should do is see how this changes your game. From what I'm seeing, those using it properly (punish/combo) will see no change. Those using it randomly will either get a free hit like always or be punished on block, or pre-hit. Same situation.
As such, this particular nerf would only bother people that just use it randomly (against bad players), which from my understanding is not what a good Blanka should be doing anyway.
The fact that the Blanka ball is able to be punished ON HIT is pathetic.

If you have trouble with blanka ball just put down the game and shutup, because if it's character specific chances are your character has better things to ask for than nerfs to blanka ball.
