On the Japanese SSF4 blog, details were given about a new Tournament Mode that's being added to SSF4 Arcade Edition. My Japanese is definitely not strong, so some of the notes may be off, but here's what I made out.
• A list of the last 200 results can be easily gathered by tournament organizers to see who won and lost and which characters were played.
• Player 1 can hit the Start button to access unique features in Tournament Mode, like selecting the stage and accessing the previously mentioned tournament battle log.
• The results screen, showing the character win quote and who won the match can be configured to display for a specific amount of time, giving tournament organizers more of a chance to get the results recorded before the next match occurs. It appears this can be set to 5, 15, 30 or 60 seconds before it advances, or set to unlimited time where the user must press a button before the game continues on to the next screen.
No word on if these modes will be made available as DLC for the console versions, to help out tournament organizers over here, but keep your fingers crossed.
Here's a few screens of how the tournament battle log and results delay feature look.

Does this really matter? Nobody ever plays tournament mode online anyways...
This looks pretty useful. At first I thought it was gonna be another bullcrap "run a tournament on one setup" mode, but it's literally expecting you to have multiple setups running, and just gives you results (which is all you really need).
Being able to skip those long awkward pauses on the victory screens is really nice as well.
Consoles arent geting this. This is gonna stay arcade exclusive for atleast 5 months until they annouce the last verison which will be for both consoles and arcades.
FFS, stuff tournament mode, the thing is hardly ever used. Bring back Championship Mode, it's the only thing that kept players playing in SFIV.
CHAMPIONSHIP MODE BACK ASAP.
Don't remove one of the best things from the console version of the game.
CHAMPIONSHIP MODE... BRING IT BACK!
I always wondered why games haven't had shortcut menus like Marvel Super Heroes had.
Is it really too difficult to have a reset/character/costume/ultra/stage select within the start menu so we don't have to keep going back to the character select screen?
I though that would have saved time in testing as well as in tournaments.
i don't give a BEEEP about BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP .. Most of us won't play this BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEp and in 1 years they will release it has DLC and so capcom can BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP my BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP..
BEEEEEEEEEEEEP you Capitalist world.BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP my Magical BEEP.
THe only thing I dont like about SSF4 now is that you dont have the option to invite a friend in a ranked match. You can do it for the other game modes... But not ranked match.
@ MikeDanger
I fail to see how this is noteworthy. There are more Akuma's on the 2 player side, and this image was captured when the public had no knowledge of (let alone access to) tournament mode on AE anyway. Most likely just a test tournament by develepors / testers.
@ others
I don't think AE tournament mode will be like the console version. For one thing, console requires that you use online. Seems like this just keeps track of wins/loses to make it easier for tournament organizers and judges. Maybe it'll turn out to be useless in which case people just wont use it.
Why people are talking about Championship mode for AE is beyond me. Arcades don't need that crap. Championship mode can still come to console (doubtful) but it would be separate from any AE DLC methinks.
those results just prove that the improvements made on ken has increased his popularity even more, imo. i knew the upgrades werefor him were ridiculous. i can't wait to find out personally, when i play ken users with my further-nerfed vega lol. -_-
What they need to do is make it so we can change our buttons in ranked/endless screen lol. Freaking annoying having to log out, just to go to the start menu to change button types...
They need to add a button configuration option in the menu screen for ranked/endless.
Lol you guys are making it obvious who played in arcade tournaments before SF4 and who hasn't.
This is an event mode which is used for arcade games not for console games. Event mode is a BIOS/Debug setting that is required for arcade tournaments. Basically it lets 2 people play each other in a tourney and then when a match ends instead of sending the winier to fight the CPU the arcade game resets itself to the character select screen.
Except most event modes erase data this one instead stores it.
We already have event modes for consoles its called VS mode.
