IGN has an interesting article up talking about some of the characters that didn't make the cut in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Niitsuma explained that many of the Darkstalkers characters were considered for the roster, but only a few of the fan-favorites could be included. One character Niitsuma mentioned by name was Donovan Baine, the half-vampire warrior boasting Buddhist beads and a troubled past. Donovan would have been a nice addition to the ensemble, though I'm thrilled enough that Morrigan and Felicia are already present and accounted for.
Another interesting tidbit that Niitsuma revealed was that the Ace Attorney characters were considered for the Fate of Two Worlds roster. I'm not the biggest Ace Attorney fan out there, but having Phoenix Wright in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 would have been entertaining. We'll just have to let Captain America dispense all the justice this time around.
I'm still ticked Phoenix didn't make it. He and Gene were my top picks for this game.
Also, they dropped Silver Surfer because he "looked too much like Iceman"? Hmm...
Donovan would've been perfect in my opinion, Killshread Plant antics are exactly the kind of nonsense Marvel 3 is centered around. Though, it seems like Trish overlaps him in some aspects, so maybe they wanted more variety.
Deadpool was almost accidentally left out? That would've been a huge mistake.

Why do so many people want phoenix wright in the game? Whoever they are must be new to the vs series games.Having a "LAWYER" in a "FIGHTING GAME" makes no sense at all.It would just be a waste of a character space and a waste of time and money to make for the game in general.Besides,he has no fighting skills at all.
@cvs isn't she hulk a lawyer? if wright has a high demand he must be doing something right in his games. i never played any of them but those typical non fighters are the funnest kind to use.
The difference between she hulk and phoenix wright is,she hulk has actual experience in fighting,phoniex wright doesn't.Phoenix Wright people just want him in the game for him to say "OBJECTION!" in a super and thats it,thats all people can think of with him.

you clearly dont get it do you, phoenix wright is a money maker choice, doesnt matter who you put on the game it will never be as awesome as phoenix wright giving and objection super in your face then out of nowhere maya comes out of nowhere to deliver a fatal impact on you the judge then call you guilty for been foolish, just tell me, how donovan can compete with that, the answer is obvious he cant, an off all choices, donovan is lame in comparison to some of the other cast like jedah of dimitri, but im just a simple person who want and awesome character in the game rather than an old school character that we had seen before

you know playing games is all bout having fun. just because someone isnt a super overpowered character doesnt mean they cant be a creative character. phoenix would have been that awesome over the top character...well theres still dlc. id pay another 60 bucks just to play as him
Donovan would've been better than Felicia. Honestly, of all the characters in Darkstalkers, she has to be the most generic and the least interesting, besides maybe Q Bee (I despise Q Bee just because I've had my ass handed to me by her one too many times, and she's not an interesting character design.). Victor, Donovan, Jedah and Hsien-Ko would be the most appealing of them all though.

Those of you who think Phoenix Wright can't be in the game, have absolutely zero imagination. I'm sure you guys also though M.O.D.O.K. could never ever be in a fighting game. If anyone can make an obscure character work in a fighting game, it's definitely Capcom.
So I guess the people complaining that Phoenix Wright isn't a fighter don't realize that MvC2 had Jill (who had powers she did not have in the resident evil games), Roll (who even if she is a fighter do you really think she stood a chance against the other characters? No because she sucked period.),and Dan (.....seriously...he's Dan I think you understand).

I agree, except the Spider-Woman part, Spider-Woman isn't the same in the same vein as those two, she isn't really related to Spider-Man like that, though one can wonder why they chose the name Spider-Woman of all things. I liked Arachnid better.

Phoenix Wright can work out just fine in the game if they wanted to. There's plenty of fan-created movesets that seem fine, but at the same time are lacking (because they're fan creations). A dev team as creative enough to make a moveset for characters like Roll in TvC can certainly make one for Phoenix. I personally like the idea of him being a character with some summons, that way we can see some of the other game characters. After all, one of the best parts of the PW series is that it has a ton of wacky and fun characters in it.

No it doesn't. In one of the games he was actually ready and willing to put up a fight against someone that was going around pretending to be him. The creator of his games said he's fine with him being in the game, so has no problem with it going against Phoenix Wright's personality. Plus, it's not as if there are other characters in previous games that wouldn't normally join in on fights.
I actually don't mind too much if he's not in, but I'd welcome his addition if he was added via DLC or something. Unless we don't get a Megaman in this game (chances are X won't be added as DLC if there's already another version of Rock in the game), I'd say chances of Phoenix Wright getting in are gradually growing.
Also, I'm very surprised Deadpool was almost not included in the game over a simple mistake. How did Deadpool "accidentally" made it onto the no-go list? Was someone doing a sloppy copy+paste job and threw him in the wrong text file or something? Did they mean LADY Deadpool and accidentally left out "Lady"?
I just don't see how anyone can accidentally make a mistake like that. Makes you wonder if there were any other characters that didn't make it in just because of mistakes like that. Lookin' at Cyclops.

BB Hood was in MvC2 and like all the other Vs. games, had a T rating.
It's just sad that our society has gotten more Puss-whipped after all these years and now a T-ratings content has to be closer to a K than ever before.

Phoneix wright would have been cool I'm sure they could have came up with original ideas to use him like @48 said his games are pretty original as it is. I'm also down for more darkstalkers characters and Donovan would have been a beast I don't see how hard that was capcom. At the end of the day I'm glad mvc3 is dropping though.
So Deadpool, arguably one of the better characters in MvC3 was almost rejected until a translator of all people stepped in and tried to convince them otherwise.
Just goes to show that the people that make these choices aren't as smart at making decisions as they make themselves out to be, and a little time spent listening to the fans would probably do them some good once in a while.
modok is basically in a floating chair, yet Silver surfer got omitted for what again :/
Silver surfer board is iconic and part of his name so he would need it, but the point i was getting at why couldnt they have him hover above the ground on it like modok and give him a flight command like other characters have. Granted if iceman is in i could understand it at that point about looking alike. Better yet have it like capt America shield. But understanding the ram limitation on the systems could of been a performance issue involved as well.

She-hulk is a lawyer like phoenix wright. Yes I agree, she has fighting capabilities. Having phoenix wright in the game would be stupid,all people can think of for him move wise is just a super where he yells "objection".Other then that,no one can think of anything else to give him besides that objection super.Thats the only thing he has going for him.If he was in the game he would just be used for a couple of weeks,maybe a month,then no one will care about him being in the game anymore.
He would end up being low tier anyways.You can't put a character in the game when you have nothing to work with besides him yelling a catch phrase,if anything he should be a background character.

So many people want PW so he'll probs be dlc or something, but there are other reasons some chars might not be in, nitsuma said they had to recieve permission from a characters franchise, developers a nd desginers before go ahead with making the character. (This applies mainly for the Capcom side)

Play his games, they are pretty fun.
I don't think any more Darkstalker characters are necessarily, and if so personally I would prefer B.B. Hood (she's so much fun, mostly because fans have Darkstalkers 4 to hope for.
As of a moveset, with enough creativity you can come up with a complete balanced, funny and strong moveset (I gave a small example comment #48)
As of permission from the Ace Attorney Team, they have MORE than green light, in fact Niitsuma has been wanting to include Phoenix Wright since Tatsunoko Vs Capcom, but had trouble with the moveset. So there is no issue here.
Anyone that really knows anything about these fighting games, knows that they need character like that to keep it Fresh and Interesting. That a big reason to why they included Amaterasu.
So personally I don't get how he wasn't included, I guess there should be a good reason.
