Sweet, now I have something to help me out on dem combos! XD I guess tomorrow I'm gonna be grinding for a few long hours just to nail those links. Oh well it's something for me to work on.
this inspired me to play juri. not kidding either i didn't know she had so much potential. thx emporer cow!
Nice to finally have these on video. Most of these I've known about and found out on my own a couple months back, *when I was experimenting with Juri in the lab* but since I ended up not maining Juri I didn't pay too much attention to recording and uploading them. Good stuff man.
I liked the resets. But could you please not taunt after every combo, it get kind of annoying.
Great job though.
And yet we still don't see many juri mainers at tourneys :(
Nice Combo/tutorial vid... but "BRICK,dont hit back" what im trying to say is ive seen alot of(GREAT)combovids with lowtier chars but when I look the players up(what I did with this guy) who've made them then there getting beatdown and not using the combo's in actual realmatches...
Is it perhaps better making a combovid in realmatches!?
like that feilong player did a few months ago!?
meh is all i can say to this. i main juri and these combos apart from getting damage scaled are just your average combos nothing special here mostly a waste of meter here. Also as everyone else stated taunting is annoying after every combo.
the taunts sucked big.... dont know why ppl keep doing this s**t when doing a combo video or something...
anyway.... the combos were ok,, I already used then when I started playing juri, bur what I wanted to see was some different setups, not some innocent changing sides like that one double crossup.
anyway, no IOH or some matchup tips on the vid, so its only an ok vid.
I've played against this guy in random ranked matches! He's an absolute beast as Dhalsim, but he has a sense of humour too. Best I've ever done against his Dhalsim was winning one round as Dan, but only because I taunted him a bunch of times and he taunted back. Was hardly a serious bout.
Whats good, Big Nasty Kail here. I do main juri and I found these videos...Eh.
First off, let me say props to EmpCow for doing these. They're well put together and fun to watch. A tip on the production: Turn the BGM off. I can hear it through the sweet juri beast music. And...watch the taunts. Do them after something really nasty. I really liked the Low Fuhajin release dash up focus attack set up. That would be something to have her evil laugh at the end of.
Now, here's a video that is an introduction to some of the gimmicks juri has but in no way should be praised for showing off her "tools". All of these things are just (no offense Emp)showing off their ability to pull the combos off. Here is why you should take these video's with a grain of salt.
1)Supreme Waste of Meter/Impossible use of meter. One combo required a High Fuhajin release fadc super. Impossible. As for meter usage, Juri is a character that benefits HIGHLY on one bar of meter. One bar can mean 200-300 damage. Why would I use a whole meter for 300-350? They're flashy and granted I will sometimes use a focus attack off a fuhajin or a sempusha but that is because I'm going for flash and trash (mostly sempusha, off the fuhajin does pretty good numbers for 2 bars). Especially adding Kaisen Dankairaku at the end of it.
2)Not useful. Juri's standing jab whiffs on a majority of the cast (Ryu being one of them), so these combos are...whats the phrase... a shot in the dark? Know what characters her jab crouching and use that then, other wise there are other BnB that are useful.
3)Resets. Resets are something that Juri's like doing. They feel in control of the situation so they use these resets. They're nothing a shoryu wont fix. Especially when what your doing is highly risky. The purpose of this video was to flash some style but please dont use reset > dash under > c.fierce xx Sempusha. Even with a FADC its risky. Its a one frame link (to my knowledge) and can be broken by a late crouch tech. It doesn't do as much damage however better choices would have been close forward, close fierce, or a few shorts into mk sempusha to hit confirm.
Juri is a character with so much untapped potential. She reminds me of makoto really (Just more well rounded). She is so gimped in a lot of ways but in the right hands can put people in a constant state of double guessing that leads to frustration and loads of damage. This video isn't a proper demonstration of her tools of the trade.
But again, props for showing up on Eventhubs and putting together a well producted video. I just wish the content was a little more eye opening.
Taunting after every combo is really not that exciting.
why the hell to people love to include the taunt at the end of EVERY combo? like wtf? its not even a cool taunt or something unique they do as a taunt. Its pressing 2 buttons then making us watch it for another 2 secs 20 more times. I just dont get it.
Nice stuff, its a shame that she doesnt have any big crazy combos tho, most get scaled hard and require a bunch of ex meter
Great videos emperor cow! Inspiring. Can't wait start practicing with her again.
And props to Kalilkun. Your comments are really helpful.
Can't wait to have her walking speed improved with SSFIVa DLC arrives. Her slow foot speed drives me crazy! I feel at disadvantage with footsies with such slow speed.
@ Kailkun #20
thank you for your input. i will reply to each point you mentioned individually.
1) please check the combos again as there was no over use of meter. the only combo with super was the one with the HK fireball as anti-air into MK super at 2:46. if you look carefully, there was no FADC involved. it was a regular dash forward and i have to say i have landed this multiple times in-game. as for the rest being a waste of meter, yes agreed again in many situations landing the 1st couple of hits straight to super might deal more damage. but thats not the point of the vid. the point is to show a different insight on the different possible links and how to add pressure to a character that seems to be played, dare i say it, too basicly. nothing to do with being flashy.especially LK senpusha link into FADC, LK, LP, c.MK, HK senpusha the damage on that is pretty sweet if you can land it.
2)if you're talking about the jab whiffing mid combo then you might be slightly, but not entirely, wrong. just like many combos in this game, without the right distance the LP might whiff mid combo. but its unlikely after an FADC. unless you were pretty far which you shouldnt be doing that anyway. the safer alternative i use is standing LK into MP if i needed to burn 2 meters. its easier to land cuz its 1 frame less as well. if you're talking about the standing LP reset. i specificly mentioned to take a step forward to make it land more consistantly.
3) resets not being useful. i have to say you are wrong. the whole point of a rest is not to mash buttons after. its a RESET. you create a new situation. in all of the resets you can simply dash forward then block, or dash then throw. hell u can dash and then backdash! or even NOT DASH AT ALL (after the enemy gets accustomed to your constant underdashs). its a mixup. now as for the DP punish, yes if they mash upper cut you will get punished if u try to press buttons. but .. like i said earlier, u can simply just BLOCK!! u have the time to do so. plus if they wanna be safe after they will end up burning 2 bars for an FADC, which if u ask me is well worth the reset. i dont see how you dont find them useful. speaking of juri being similar to makoto, Vryu loves resets, and he lands them quite consistenly. but again doesnt always press buttons, it depends on who you're fighting, the health lead, the punishability, weather they are used to them or not,.. etc. many factors really. its an extra element that is under addressed.
thanks again for your comment.
@ Kailkun #20
more about comment 3) resetting with c.HP as you said is a pretty tightly times reset and you are absolutely right, you have many other options for resets. but if you're landing it successfully, id say go for max damage and stun. thats the way i see it at least.
again thanks for the comment
@Emperor_Cow
Do you happen to have a psn by chance? I've been practicing with Juri for a good while, so I was wondering if you wouldn't mind doing some friendly matches, so you could help me on a few pointers of what I should, and shouldn't be doing with Juri in a match.
Granted I'll probably be knocked for my constant use of her dive kick. XD
lol this guy is wasting meter on combos that can go for much better things such as defensive options, etc. the resets this guy displayed are old news also. plus his juri is grade A trash, just look at him at this tourny
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFxU-e...
please don't be fooled into thinking he's good. he absolutely suck.
@I_Love_Juri
Don't call someone grade A trash because of one clip. Their has been matches were S class fighters like Daigo get completely destroyed in a match, that doesn't make them horrible. It is one instant in time. Somedays are just bad days. Also I've fought Fei-longs they are really hard to pressure, what so ever with Juri. I generally find my self being forced to turtle, because most of her cross up's get stuffed by his DP, and his Anti-air is great against Juri, just as his pokes are. For me as Juri Fei-long is one of my worst match ups.
@ bloodynights
dude, it's more than that. emperor scrub didn't even know the match up with juri vs fei long. he kept jumping into his DP like a dumbass, he kept storing fuhajins even tho the fei player chicken winged him every damn time. he din't use st mk to either stop fei rekkas or use it beat chicken wings. this guy is just trash. plus he do random dive kicks despite how unsafe they are.
Dude who cares about a match he did. This thread is about his combo videos. Yes the taunts are annoying and the combos are impractical in combat, but they are very entertaining to watch and show that he has some solid technical skill. GG, Emperor Cow!
@ BloodyNights #28
sorry bro no ps3..
@ I_Love_Juri #31
that was my the first attempt to use juri in a tourney. and to reach semifinals with her is quite impressive if i had to say so my self. i was still just discovering her and i am finding out new things every day. my main since vanila has always been dhalsim. a character with a completely different play style and a 3 frame jump. another thing you should take into consideration is that slizzle is one of the top players here in the uk. you're absolutely right though, i did not know the match up.. at all. juri is still a work in progress for me. but i think she holds promise so i intend to stick with her a while. and just cuz you love juri so much that doesnt make you any good with her. but thanks for your input regarding the punishes. ill keep them in mind the next time i face a fei long. :)
@ emperor scrub. man, if you was in the east coast i would body your juri so hard. matter of fact, if you ever visit thje states lets MM. 200$ i'm that confident that i can beat you. i won't even need juri to beat your scrubby ass. how do you go a tourny with a new character and not have any indication of match up knowledge? damn you're a scrub. and lol @ uk. the only good ppl uk have is ryan hart and louffy. star nab got raped by usa best fei long and chris hu raped him.
gotta say that taunt is lame as hell... and ive seen it way too many times in the last 10 min.
still nice execution, etc.
i like it-But it is kinda foolish to enter a tourney and not know juri or her matchups.U must have another main besides dhlasim.
@ I_Love-Juri Wow. Way to be ignorant AND a dick. dicknorant.
First: Put up or shut up. Please start documenting all of your tournament matches via youtube. The only thing you've revealed about your play style is that you're predictable ("you have to do x, y, z to beat Fei Long! duh!"). Unless you can prove otherwise, I'll have to maintain you play just as well as the average street fighter player. Emperor Cow has proven he is certainly above average. You do not get the benefit of the doubt just because you believe you're entitled to it.
Second: Luffy is from France. If you're going to pretend like you're in the scene, at least get your facts straight.
Third: Why the hate?
Good job, Emp! Thank you for contributing. :-)
I think i pounded I_LUV_JURI with my el fuerte on the psn.
Emperor Cow.... Fantastic vid and great combo execution.... UR A BEAST lol. Juri is such an awesome character. One of the best "brand new" characters in quite some time (my opinion of course). Always good to see some Juri love.
denaycous_dee85 #39
the tourney was character locked so i couldnt change her throughout the whole tournament. plus i wanted to see how far i would go with what basic knowledge i had of the character. that way i could realize where the characters weak points were, as well as my own weak points in using her and what i needed to improve. it was a learnig experience. u learn alot more that way than just sitting on the couch and playing online. not to mention that i got alot of insight from fellow players who might have at one point or another tried out the character and found somethings out that i wasnt aware of. i dont see why someone should be afraid to explore something new.you just have to put yourself in the mindset that if you plan to try a new character, until you gain enough experience, expect to lose ALOT and make a ton of mistakes..its all part of the fun really. im still fairly new with her. but the more i use her the more i discover new things with her. and i think she holds more promise than what i previously thought.
@ Kailkun #43
i was giving point 2) some thought and i realized i forgot to mention something important. the reason i am successfully landing standing LP all the time is that i try to include a crouching HP or FADC the pinwheel in my combos.. both of which if an oponent is crouching, he will be put in a forced standing state on hit. kinda like how sakura goes for c.HP into EX hurricane to confirm all the hits to connect. is that what u meant about the LP whiffing on you most the time? i hope this helps
Emp Cow: I think I'm missing something here. For the combo video, were you entering it in some contest to see who could make the longest video?
There was a lot of unnecessary stuff in there, most obviously being the taunting after EVERY SINGLE COMBO. Why? What purpose does this serve? All you've done is annoyed the people watching your video.
Another point, and this is a mistake that many combo vid makers make is, so you've got this long combo. Don't proceed to do the same combo over and over 5 times and just alternate the finisher.
IMO the reason why people see a combo video is to see new and different concepts. I believe the reason why people go "WOW" when they see a new combo is that at a baser level, they are seeing a new concept whether it be a new link juggle or whatever.
This actually applies some what to your tutorial video as well. Yes, tutorial videos are not just there to entertain, but if you are going to demonstrate a reset, don't keep showing the same situation over and over with every single different iteration. It's just not necessary.
Especially in a tutorial video you can get away with putting in some text sometimes to explain some of the alternatives after doing the base combo that sets it up.
If you really must show the different alternatives, be creative. An excellent example is James Chen's "Ode to the 2-hit Combo" vid. Specifically the 3rd Strike Alex section. You can find what I'm talking about at the link below at the 3:36 mark
EmpCow
I checked the video out one more time and I do apologize greatly. Although I do stand by that most of these combos are really not great to use in a match and I can point to a number of better ideas for meter usage or damage output I will say I was incorrect on a lot of my points.
I do see that it was a dash up super and the purpose for ti was to get all possible hits on the super. I do see that you put c.hp before the fadc to force a rise.
As for the resets this was a solid part of my gameplay when I first started juri and I started to shy away from it once I found I could store a fireball in a LOT of situations. I base my gameplay heavily around fireballs, and I will reset but use it as an element of surprise. I might be doing something wrong with my mental chess, however often i lose in these situations. I gotta re-evalutate myself. I personally think the fireball store is more important than the reset so I've let resets go a little bit.
So with that being said, thanks for the response and helping me understand a bit better. My fault if I came off as a jackass.
PLEASE TAUNT AFTER EVERY COMBO YOU DO, REGARDLESS OF HOW SHORT IT IS.
@ Kailkun #46
its all good man. at least you were civil about it which is why i bothered to respond to you in the first place. as far as resets go, i do agree with you to a point. sometimes its more worth it to land garanteed damage or store a fireball. it really depends on the situation. but its worth it sometimes because if you can reset and land a combo successfully, you get rid of the damage scaling and the next hits would really hurt, especially after a focus. also, in high level play you wont really see alot of jumping to punish so often. you also need to be careful not to be too predictable. doing a reset is not fundimental, but its a tool not many characters have. so mixing in a reset every now and then is pretty decent if you can land it.
juri is still a learning experience for me. im still trying to figure out how to use her more efficiently so im exploring different things. this is coming from a dhalsim main and you can imagine how very different those two characters are. although they do have some similarities in a way. both have crap health, both are decent zoners, both have a crappy wakeup game, they both have this "hit n run" element to them. it really doesnt matter how you use a character in the end. as long as its giving you positive results. if you win and your oponent says something like "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG! THATS NOT HOW YOU PLAY HER" well, so what ? u won so clearly it works and his argument is invalid... lol.
anyway thanks again for the healthy discussion.
juri’s a beast-D@Mn
