I'm good but because Gen isn't a character you face often, he'd open a can of whoop butt on me...
Honestly, no other character looks this cool when dominating a match... his moves all flow together beautifully. That being said, he has to be the hardest character in the cast to master, especially with the constant switching between mantis and crane stances mid-combo. Takes a ton of practice. Does Yeb still play Gen or did the nerfs cause him to switch it up?
I think Gen is underrated. I'm a big Gen fan and i'm not as good as some of these guys you see online or on youtube vids. He does need some time to get his links up to par and then the exectuion on top of that.
Most Gen players, at least on forums and discussions, think Gen either need some type of damage boost or his meter gain back. His meter gain was nerfed to shreds. When he uses his meter for FADC's and and EX gekiro anti-air/wake-up it takes forever to get the meter back up. The meter nerf seems to be the universal consnesus on what was bad with the changes to gen.
Most people say that MK~hands is gone but its still there and it seemed to be the only tool that made him so good in Vanilla. Now sure it was nerfed but it still can be done only using EX version. the damage is not worth it and since the meter gain was nerfed there is no reason using it.
That said I really hope the tweaks to Gen in AE is going to help him. At least to a point where those that had used him in vanilla could come back and show his potential. Jibbo I hear went on to ibuki and like Yeb has not played super for some time. Asiantom was a pretty good Gen too. But he stayed with akuma I hear. I see him some times in the Gen forum over at SRK. Then again the Gen forum doesn't have as much activity as I would like.
Impressive timing on combos but not worth doing. It's all for show. Damage after the fadc is like a pixel per link. I do like the ultra link though.
Capcom should give back his links from Vanilla. Give back his links but tone down his damage, imo. That way, people who used to him can go back and possibly see more Gens in tourneys.
Does anyone feel like Gen's a silent beast? I never hear much about him in tournies and whatnot, but I realize that I lose 80% if not more when I play against gen online. I researched on how to counter him lol, but for some reason I just cant. Too tricky.
lol Gen is great to watch and play with but in reality he wont win any ssf4 tournies with a few other players of real worth there. Get past his gimmicks and get to the core solid play... he's still disadvantaged against anyone who knows the match up. with a lack of meter, a lack of damage and a lack of escape. People say he's still useable but compared to his vanilla version he isn't... vanilla gen had an escape, built meter quick time and could use that meter very effectively.
If gen got his EX oga back then he'd be a whole lot better.. but that's confirmed to not be in the AE release. So god knows what capcom's done for him... my guess is not enough in the slightest lol.
The video was great to watch though, I love watching some of these combos :D
The Oga Up then Dive is easily comboed on hit with either (crane) Jump Forward.MK or just standing MK though the latter is a harder attack to time the former causes a reset and at the sometimes causes you to l an next to him.
This Gen relies too much on his waterfall which any good player who knows the match up will notice he's staying in Mantis and know to block anytime he get's close.
Some of the players he fought against were just doing plain noobish stuff(Gulie no charging downback on knock down, Deejay not trying to dread kick or anti air his way away from Gen)
@Ex_Ein
Gen's Mantis Ultra 2 will not defeat someone unless they have 221 or less health. The reason being, focus damage cannot KO someone unless the damage dealt is at least twice their remaining health. Compared to his Mantis Ultra 1 and crane ultra 1, which can knock out someone with about 400 health or less, and they're both much easier to combo into.
If you meant it's an instant KO because "you can always get them as they get up", then I think you're taking the defensive strength of SSF IV too lightly.
His crane ultra 2 isn't too bad, but his mantis ultra 2 adds very little to the table except the ability to combo from EX Hands on certain opponents. I'd like to see it get a buff as well, even if it's a small one.
I think it's without a doubt his worst ultra, but I don't think it's the worst ultra in the game.
Mantis U2 is not that bad, it's just misused. It's a pretty decent finisher, if you know how to trap the opponent after the ultra knockdown.
As others said, most of these combos were not really worth the trouble. Gen indeed doesn't build enough meter anymore to waste on FADC, considering his lack of wakeup tools, plus his supers are so good.

I'm a Gen player (certainly nowhere as good as this guy, though), and honestly I think at least Viper is harder to master than him. With the MK hands link gone and the frame advantage out of most normals improved, his execution barrier dropped significantly, and dealing with style changes is not as hard as it may seem at first. Being a good Gen player now is more about good fundamentals than really knowing the character.

no, it is hilarious. no need to take it so seriously its not like the ryu was your son and he heavily disappointed you. its a guy online who got mentally raped and wasnt thinking straight.
Here's a match against a pretty solid guile whom I think knows the match-up pretty well.

Personally I think if he can get his old meter gain back. he would be much better. Maybe some extra damage to a point.
I main Gen, but I'm nowhere near that good, I can't link into his hands from mk, my fingers don't move that fast :-(
Rhyllis I meant easier in general because I'm not a combo guy and besides catching a few people being morons or sleeping on the Gen knowledge I can't get U1s. however I've been able to mantisU2 and only about every 2 out of 15 will not get hit with my favorite follow and only 1 out of five will KO me or stand my chip and throws to gain back their full health
Ok we all get that every character in sf has potential but jesus capcom whats the point if only this dude and a few others can play him like this.
