I never understood plinking. I just don't see how it's worthwhile, it looks like he's doing more work than needed for those simple links. All of the things he's plinking in the video are easy to do by themselves & there's really nothing in the game that's THAT difficult to link anyway it's all about timing in pressing the button & in the worst case scenario just double tap.
Kara throws I understand because they actually increase your throw range. Plinking supposedly opens the link window to make it easier even though it's really not necessary. I certainly don't have that much trouble with links, even 1 frame links can be mastered through good timing & practice.
in some cases plinks are very usefull, such as 1 frame links that vega and cammy have.
@ Rodeoman
Plinking HELPS out alot. crouching lp into cr. MP is alot easyer with plinking.
Can you upload a sf4 on youtube that you can link combo of 1 fame link that dont drop. thanks because you sounds like a pro. OH by the way. i dont want to see jump hard kick into dragon punch
@rodeoman
I do know what you mean, it does seem like more work, but consider some other advantages.
A friend of mine likes to sell plinking as a "safety net". Say you make the simple switch from Xbox 360 to Playstation 3. The general timing/flow of the game is subtly different by two frames supposedly. Instead of having to adjust, plinking can help you to make the transition easier.
Now, consider the same for moving between different tvs at a lower scale tournament. Maybe the game is only being played on PS3, but you're moving between tvs that are not only most likely different from what you practice on, but are different from each other. Old tube tvs, laggy monitors, and if you're fortunate, lagless monitors.
There's a lot of reasons that you would want to learn something like that, and in the end, it's not that much more work compared to dropping links.
Q: Whats the difference in physical input of a piano roll and a plink? Plinks are closer together? Faster?
1 frame windows are like impossible to hit consistently. I don't think there is a human in the world that is actually capable of that. Or if there is, that person is just inhuman and not representative of what the average person is capable of. Especially since the average human is only capable of seeing a bit less than 30 frames a second.
A 2 frame window however, which P-linking is able to make out of a 1 frame link, is something that the average player can in fact hit consistently.
Helped me learn the idea, I need to learn option selects and I'll be a small threat for someone... now to find a main... (wow I'm slacking...)
I have a question regarding plinking: When I use Guile, I try to perform c.LK, c. LP, c.MP, and I input the following:
LK
LP
MP, very fastly followed by LP (as it says in the video and a bunch of other ones teaching how to plink). The thing is, sometimes it just comes out as 2x LP instead of LP > MP.
Am I doing something wrong? 'Cause I've noticed that you can press a LP button before a MP button after linking it from the LP before. But how does that make sense?
I was going to create written guides for all this, but Fighter101 knows their stuff.
