Q: OMG whats the name of the song
A: Inside the Fire by Disturbed (i guess they cut the lyrics).
Why can't they just play the makoto theme mix instead of trash rock music?
Its not just that I don't like the music, what about makoto says heavy rock at all? I duno, just seems out of place like I am watching some little kids WoW vid or something else horrible but instead its an amazing makoto vid.
holy sh*t that was great, and no i think makoto is not bottom tier.
its just that not many people get good enough with her and say at the same level, she has some great tricks. but its pretty difficult to become good withher
@9, Struggs
Still bottom. She has no defensive capabilities at all. It is true that she has a lot of mixup potential and she can take a single untechable knockdown quite far with a bit of creativity and luck. However, there are some uterly unwinable matchups. Pretty much any character that is very offensive and has an answer to get out easily as well as invincible specials (which Makoto has none of) beats her senseless. The video shows some impressive skills but there's no Akuma players for example and most of those opponents don't understand what back dashes are for.
Another thing you can't really see in that video is the recovery time on a missed command throw. It's absolutely absurd. Like 3 seconds or something. You can't rely on the karasuka mixup because even close range characters like dudley get to hit back with massive combos after they backdash and any character jumping a karasuka gets a massive combo. Like even Dhalsim will get a full jumping punishing combo on her.
Oh man, that c.lk to ultra 1... How the hell does that even connect?
@17 Brilliantly explained and for all the people that say any different plz dont be naive...V-ryu is an excellent player and these clips are brilliant but even as Justin Wong put it against Gamerbee if you do not know the matchup she will destroy you...simple backing up, backdashes, jab mashing, reversals, and even ultras can get you out of a kara reset...her ability to stun you comes from the fact that after a knockdown she is pretty much russian roulette if you guess right or wrong on wake-up....her game is all bait and heavy offense but as this game caters so much to defense she is a veeeeery disadvantaged character...and for those of you who dont play Makoto...i dare you just once to take her into ranked matches...you will hate it bottom line...awesome video and thanks YogaFlame for putting together this sweet compilation :D...lets hope Makoto sees some well needed change in the DLC...enjoy fellow Makoto mainers and other street fighter lovers alike
@PzychoNimz
Meaty c. lk gives you plus on frames.
@13
As a Makoto main, I'll say that while Makoto isn't as bad as tier-humpers seem to insist she is, she probably does belong near the bottom of most tier-lists. What you see here are carefully selected clips of one of the best Makoto mains out there.
Makoto has basically no safe formula to her character design. Even within one particular matchup, she has no consistent anti-air, no consistent way to get in, no consistent wakeup game, and no consistent set of actions off a knockdown. Makoto is a character that requires full knowledge and fluency in her moveset, and preternatural reflexes, and the best mind-reading around. The result of this is that a good Makoto can be a very dangerous thing, just because of how unexpected they tend to be. But in the end, this just takes such an extraordinary amount of skill and matchup knowledge that many are just never able to reach it. And even at the highest level of play, a single bad guess can be considerably more costly for Makoto than for many other fighters.
totally agree with makoto being low tier not bottom tier... no defensive and wake up potential, besides the mixups and resets... if ur read game is 50% below n ur opponent knows the matchup its a hard win for u, even if ur read game is 51% above n opponent knows the matchup its still a challenging win for u! the fact that makoto is not a beginner character and if u wanna play her on a high level... u need high level execution and read game!
Awesome vid btw. Like to see some of the people calling her sh*t pull of some of that stuff.
I like the part where Makoto punches Chun-li in her ovaries and they fly out her mouth.
@31 I know right? And what the hell does mago, sako, and daigo have to do with this lol, so every time someone want to be called good they have to compare themselves to DAIGO? Thats retarded... and the way he said "big boys" sounds like he had them in bed or something.

I know. I totally hate people who do hard work to provide a convenient place to get useful and interesting news about a specialist hobby that many others would feel is unimportant. Those dicks clearly must be running things in a manner which I don't approve of.
@oohlloarowhateverthef#ck
I am a huge fan of the japnese fighters, but seriously, talking sh*t about eventhubs is just stupid. This site is in no way biased to any race of player. You make a video about who ever the f#ck ur crying about, send it to them, and maybe they'll post it. If not shut f#ck up and stop coming to this website. Cool?
- Being a MAkoto mainer this brought joy to my heart.. such amazing mind reading V great work.
Aaahh. So much love and hatred here. It's almost disgusting yet adorable.
@ 27
Lets see you beast on Sako, Mago, or Daigo.
no?
then shut up.
Daigo told Vryu that he was the best makoto that he had ever played.
true fact.
Makoto has some ridiculous normals at close/mid range. cr.mp and st.mp in particular are beyond annoying to deal with. stupid move locks you down keeping you from jumping and stuffs alot of my shoryu attempts on my akuma. the only makoto i play is a guy I've played akuma against for years so he knows my game in and out and at this point theres much less I can do to outpoke him
#1, you tier riders are completely insulting vryu, ninjacw and all the other amazing makotos who put in tons and tons of hard work to achieve the level of mastery in their character by not acknowledging this and only focusing on "character rank"
#2 there is the human factor of skill that can overcome "character difficiencies". If for example one is playing a dp masher scrub, you will probably be smart enough to recognize that and BAIT those DPs for even more damage and even harder ownage with a few good reads of your own.
#3 Makoto has ALWAYS. ALWAYS. ALWAYS been a character based on guess/reads. This means that there is AN INNATE SMALLER EMPHASIS ON THE CHARACTER'S "MOVESET" which means MORE EMPHASIS ON THE INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS SKILL. that is how she was INTENTIONALLY designed.
all the makoto haters in here, if you dont like her so much DONT PLAY MAKOTO.
keep hating on makoto, because all it proves is that those haters will not put in the time to learn a character that has admittedly very deep flaws, therefore they are not confident in themselves as a player and they rely mostly if not solely on the character.
again, all the makoto haters, DONT PLAY HER. OBVIOUSLY YOU DONT HAVE THE BALLS TO MASTER A CHARACTER WITH A HIGHER EMPHASIS ON EXECUTION AND READING.
Makoto have always been interesting to me, when I was into SF3, I could never understand how to play her until I saw videos of her in good hands and started learning using her.
When I started playing SSF4 online, one of the character I decided to use was Makoto for the heck of it. I barely won most of the time if any but there's no better feeling than being able to rush and mind read someone correctly, screwing people's jump in with just s.MP and timing Abare Toosanami against people. I'm still playing her until today, I still think she's fun to use.
@Sektah84 #60
Actually, I see your point. But... wouldn't it also apply for most, if not all of the other characters?
@kpxcho
You're completely right about Makoto being based on capitalizing on good reads. You also don't have to play her in any particular way. Justin Wong's Makoto doesn't really rely on shenanigans and resets. His Makoto is very slow and methodical. He plays lame for the most part. He's not aggressive even though he plays very aggressively with his other characters. I don't think he's as good with Makoto as VRyu. He's just a better SF4 player overall. If you combine Justin Wong and VRyu's Makoto, she would be one of the scariest characters in the game.
Look at someone like Daigo. His execution and reaction isn't the best in the world. It's about the same as the other top SF4 players. What makes him stand out is his ability to read an opponent. He's become one of the top players in the world with this ability, so a character based on that concept isn't so out there. If you want to zone, you can pick Dhalsim. If you want to play footsies, you can pick Chun-Li. If your good at making reads and you want to make your opponent a subject to your sick and twisted guessing games, pick Makoto. It's not a matter of tier, it's a matter of playstyle. Makoto isn't for everyone. Neither are any of those other characters I named. A lot of the "top-tier" characters are also missing some of the tools that Makoto is lacking but those players just use the tools they were given efficiently.
It's not what you're character can do for you, it's what you can do for your character. Most people don't have the right stuff to play as Makoto but that doesn't make her a bad character. To use her well, you need to be a very good SF4 player prior to playing her. Your execution needs to be on point too. You need to be be able to read your opponent as well as play smart. Unfortunately, a very small population has those tools. She's a character that relies entirely on player skill.
cool vid, wuda liked to see the input for his opponents though so we cud see how they were trying to get out of those situations (and failing)
No better feeling than reading an opponent perfectly and making all their life go away while the round counter is still in the 80's lol. When I'm in that perfect groove w/ Koto it basically gives the opponent one option to defend themself and that is to throw out something unsafe...which is a great position to be in.
She's definitely better than she gets credit for, I'd put her above most of the low tier.
Don't see why people get so worked up when people crap on Makoto, even when she's performing well. For every 5 minutes of good material like this, there's 15 minutes where a read turns out wrong and she gets lit up horribly.
Most of who main her know just how awful of a character she is, and every time something like this comes up, everybody freaks out, like this is somehow proof that she isn't a bad character, so somebody has to go and say "Well, let's not get ahead of ourselves." Makoto is a pretty good character but still sits bottom tier for a reason. Her style is probably the only one in the entire game that does not lend itself to the SFIV game engine. The game has a heavy focus on defensive options, Makoto has a hard time getting in, or bypassing zoning strategies. The wakeup game often favors the person on the ground, depending on what character is on the ground, and Makoto's only option is to get a correct read to score ANY damage on wakeup. She can be crouch-poked out of startup on all strengths of Oroshi, so they have to be done meaty enough on wakeup, in most cases, to telegraph to your opponent that you like eating reversals. Her dash is quick, but all that needs to be done when any mid-range movement is detected is jab on reaction, and she's screwed. The jab will catch her at the end of the dash. The reason why a good character with lots of close-quarters options sits square at the bottom of all the tier lists is because there is clearly something wrong with her. The fact is, she's just in the wrong game. Imagine having to use Dante in Bayonetta's game. He's a good character, but he'd get creamed. Likewise, this game does not put her strengths on display, but rather, reveals her glaring weaknesses. She doesn't just require good reads to play; she requires good LUCK as well, since you can't always predict EVERYTHING that a player will do. They might throw out something that completely contradicts how they've been playing so far. Something so random, it couldn't be predicted. If she eats it and goes OTG, there's a high chance she'll take loads of damage before she's righted again. She has no wakeup options. For her, it's backdash or option select. Fukiage is too risky to use on wakeup because it's highly punishable, and EX Oroshi can be poked out of. Most of these combos into Karakusa count on the opponent trying to mash out a counter during a link, and catching the hitbox. If that misses, you won't DARE try that again. Risk/reward ratio is too lopsided against characters that can counter-punish you as you attack, or block and punish just as easily. If you don't play a lot of Makoto, YJDK.
In any case, props to V-Ryu. Dude has mad skills. Also, check out 1:05 in the video to see his wicked smart karakusa option select fukiage. It's the single coolest and most useful thing Makoto can do besides maybe her unblockable U2 setups.
for those who don't know, V-Ryu is from Switzerland and as his name suggests he has a solid background in Alpha3 (where he mained V-Ryu :D).
he is one of the best Alpha3 players in Europe along with Alioune, the notorious Cammy player from France.
they used to hang out on GGPO all day before SF4.. really cool guys :D
It was a pretty nice video ,but like everyone else said when makoto doesa bad read its all down hill for her ... also i dont realy understand that ultra 2 footage like was it unblockable because im pretty sure he didnt do anthing and if he did your used footage from realy bad players. just saying
Yeah, it was a crossup. We just call it an unblockable because nobody in their right mind is going to try to block that slow Ultra in the opposite direction.
Wow someone actually named Ryu, and plays SF4!
