The 2010 Super NorCal Regionals has finished up. This tournament featured competitions for Super Street Fighter 4, SSF2T HD Remix, Capcom vs. SNK 2, SF3 Third Strike and other fighting games.
I wish as there with a rocket launcher so I could obliterate the commentators... they are so ****ing worthless and annoying.
Commentators over killed it, it was funny for a bit but leave deviticus alone, I would like to see YOU do better against JWong.
It's unbelievable that Hiro (Blanka) is in this tournament... He kicked my ass so many times on vanilla sf4 (xbox live). Really good and unpredictable Blanka player, I hope he wins!
livestream starting now
Australia EVO APAC torunament.
DAIGO is there too!
WATCH!
Oh crap! Justin Wong shows us how Rufus' Galactic Tornado safely destroys Rose's Soul Satellite Ultra!
@Caruga
Everything Justin dose is for a reason. Every jab, DK, s.Short, and random messiah he has a reason for doing. If you ask him why did he throw out those jabs here but not there he will tell you the exact reason. He never gets flusterd or cracks under pressure. He never looses cus he is so calculated in everything he dose. Plus he is magic too.
the commentators were definitely atrocious, especially that wanksta guy with the trucker cap and thick-rimmed glasses (i think his name is either mags or darry/larry). note to dude: nobody gives a fukk about how much beer you drink! james chen is the ONLY guy who is always on-point, informative, and enlightening. him and very few others. keep james chen on the mic!!!
yo eventhubs idk where i post this kind of things so i can
notify u guys but here is another Daigo SuperSFIV video
@30
its wierd, the only thing that changed with bison is the psycho crusher(this was a needed fix not an improvement) and they nerfed his most important pokes. People act like hes so much better lol.
@32
his ultra2 is very usefull, easier to land and punishes almost everything from full screen away on reaction.
I am a bison player myself since vanilla and I noticed that when I have ultra 2 people start to turtle (no more fireballs no more random specials...)
so basically you shut a lot of their options and that's why people started picking bison and I believe that when the patch comes out in June and buff his U2 damage there will be even more bison players.
Yesterday I was in an endless battle and guess what we were 4 bison players and a single ryu!!!!!
@Caruga
IMO Justin is in a different league compared to all the other USA pros. There really isn't anyone there with anywhere near his level of skill, or consistency.
And the fact that he can't win against even 'regular' Japanese players (see his Japan tournament results) shows how far the gap is between US and Japan.
@Ibuki
My bad then. I'm suddenly reminded he did beat Iyo and Poongko back during the SF4 exhibition event.
Off the top of my head though I remember he didn't do very well the last two times he was in Japan. I believe he was eliminated early on (on one of the tournaments, he gets eliminated round 1 or round 2, IIRC and the announcer hilariously shouts "RETS GO JUSTIN" just as he eats the killing blow)
J.Wong is pretty skilled, but you guys don't understand that there is something called home field advantage. Each time J.Wong beats Jap players, it's on his turf, U.S.A. Needless to say, the boost you get from thousands of fans is HUGE, and your opponent can easily get flustered when your fans say say stuff like "kick his asian ass back to hong kong".
The fact that Daigo manages to beat him on his TURF is extremely significant. They are definitely not in the same league.
Evo 2k9 was pretty crazy, so many people rooting for J.Wong. Obviously, some comments aimed at Daigo to intimidate him were LESS than kind, but he still managed to pull a win. Jwong's performance out of USA is abysmal. When he went to Japan, he got wrecked and didn't even win a match. Daigo however, consistently places high wherever he goes( he just recently won EVO APAC, so we'll be seeing him here for EVO2k10 definitely).
So yeah, Jwong is mad good, but a lot of the wins against foreign players can be attributed to his playing at home with all his fans disrupting the opponents.
In the U.S.A though, he is King, cause he is part Jap.
Also, WTF happened to marn not making top 8? I thought his dudley was mad good, why's he playing viper/rufus?
Why did Marn mentally "die" when he was about to face Alex Valle?
That Rufus vs Rose sh*t is old Justin I've been know about that 3 days before the game was offically released. Not hatin on Justin just saying
What's wrong with the commentators I thought they were informative and entertaining. Isn't James Chen the idiot that kept saying sonic hurricane kick. No thanks. I was glad when the original commentators came back and told James Chen to get off the mic and called him a bum lol. It was also hilarious when they were sarcastically making fun of the dude getting raped up by Justin Wong.
Love how they say Cody is ass. I'm pretty sure they just don't know how to play him and don't see his potential and probably won't until someone shows that Cody is a beast... Idk I'm pretty sure his frame traps and his numerous ways to connect Both U1 and U2 are something that makes Cody pretty strong.
When does it start the top 8 ssf4 fights in European time???
So seth is commentating. Any other info on what they thing of Makoto and Gen now? At least form his perspective. I am not able to see the entire stream. So far I've seen a couple of matches in the 3v3 tournament
Must the cameraman constantly show us that annoying retard with glasses who imitates all ultra's -_-
I watch these fights and yawn.
If capcom had not given some characters safe moves that have almost np punishable windows unless you predict...alot of these guys would be in trouble.
Just imagine if Guile could recover from a flash kick as quick as chun li recovers from a hoshenka overhead flip kick.
You guys would sh*t your pants.
@AceKillah
"Super Ryu Fighter 2 Turbo Hadouken Remix"
Yeah, pretty much... SSF2T is a classic, but the fights are far from showing variety:(
"rufus was broken in sf4 its just that since sagat isnt OP'ed anymore everyone is starting to see rufus for the broken bastard that he is"
The last thing I wanted to see was 2 Rufuses in top3:(
Jersey Fame, stop trolling.
Chun's overhead is not an anti air/combo ender/combo breaker move with invincibility frame. Comparing it to flash kick is pretty ridiculous. And yes, guile can recover quicker than chun, it's called FADC. Learn to play the game and stop complaining. If you're not complaining about how people play a keepaway game and promoting your "dojo of no fear", you're complaining that guy doesn't have safe moves(sonic boom anyone?) and whining that other characters do.
About Rufus:
1. Why a move like ex Messiah Kick is at the same time so safe and so invincible + it can set up his ultra1? Not too much like for a single move?
2. Why Ryu (who was about as good in vanilla as Rufus) gets nerfed and Rufus still has everything intact? (And i'm not talking about those less important damage nerfs...)
3. Falcon kick becomes a really boring spamable move. It's hard to block/hard to punish/leads into big damaging combos. Another "messiah-like" move?
4. Most easy to connect ultras do 329-420 damage, but Rufus'es ultra1 still does big damage(460) and has set ups that easily go over 500...
5. Ultra2 gets full damage so easily. Overall, Rufus'es stuff seemes too easy to fully land... or other characters' too hard...(?)
Sorry for my complaining, but I was getting annoyed by watching that morbidly obese fag annihilating everyone else... 2 Rufuses in top 3, seriously?
Can't they make some cooler characters by top tiers? I quess not... cause someone got too inspired by kung-fu panda...
I honestly don't know what to say. I don't want to say Rufus is broken. I don't want to complain but honestly i mean come on hes just too good.
I mean if capcom does not plan on patching him and other characters up balance wise all you can do is learn the match up the best you can right >_>.
Im sick of complaining tired of getting mad we just got to deal with this. Its our fate for playing street fighter >_>
@78
How would they patch him? The real factor that makes him so good is that he has the best rush down(no character can apply pressure like him) in a game where turtleing is always the best strat. U could nerf ex messiah and he would still be top 5, and changing his galatic tornado or dive kick u would basicly make him not worth useing(but i do think they need to be looked at, for a motion move/one button input there lame). Atleast ex snake strike doesnt take a third bar anymore lol.
You guys wanna talk about broken? Two names pop into mind...Rufus and Abel. No charge moves just plain command inputs that do ridiculous amounts of damage and having both useable ultras that do insane damage as well. I mean, c'mon I thought the game was balanced but after seeing Abel's 2nd ultra having all the properties it has, I'd say Capcom's got a serious hard-on with this French guy and that fatass moron that does dive kicks all day and invincible and safe moves as well. Chun's U2 combos all day easily and is a command and not a charge but heck it's practically the 3rd weakest ultra in the game! Rufus U1 = broken! Abel's U2 = extremely broken!
@81 just click on ARCHIVED VIDEOS here: http://www.ustream.tv/user/iplaywinner
all the matches are there. enjoy :)
The first day was full of fratboy BS commentary: "Dude, I'm so drunk. Dude, I'm high." Et cetera. Hard to take, and disorienting when the fighters and the tech end of the streaming were so professional.
Fortunately, the second day had world-class play-by-play from Seth Killian and some wild and unpredictable matches, especially in teams. There was some good humor as well, and I enjoyed stuff like watching other Street Fighters high-fiving Hiro's baby. Also, the guy acting out the Ultras was pretty funny, especially with the seemingly-disgusted Asian girl in the shot next to him who just tried to act like nothing was happening.
We're seeing some pad players really stand up with everyone else...Shizza on a Fightpad playing as Chun Li, Vance on a regular PS3 pad playing as Zangief.
#82: "When Andy OCR beat Justin 2-1 was Rufus overpowered then?"
Yes. It's not as if a character needs to win 100% of the time for us to accept that he has advantages over the others.
Cool to hear I'm not the only one who hated the commentary of day 1. Seth Kilian was great on day 2.
Really enjoyed this stream, Wong winning Rufus is no surprise-but it was fun to watch nonetheless, the tourney scene is still pretty recent for me and I'm really enjoying it. ;-)
If Rufus is overpowered, do you suggest we all play Rufus or ban Rufus in tournaments? That is the only two options.
2nd Day was pretty much awesome the whole time I was able to watch (only was able to watch from 5pm PST to end though).
Big props to Seth Killian for the commentating. I thought he did a great job and made it much more enjoyable than it would have been otherwise
#87: "If Rufus is overpowered, do you suggest we all play Rufus or ban Rufus in tournaments? That is the only two options."
Living with it is an option, by which I mean people will continue to choose whichever characters they want despite the fact that it would be easier to win as Rufus. Another option is rooting for him to receive some balancing adjustments in a future patch to the game; that wouldn't take place in the short term, but is certainly possible.
I don't think Daigo will be able to beat Justin considering Ryu is nerfed (dp has no priority and super trap is removed) and those were great tools against Rufus. Not to mention Rufus can shut down Ryu with his new Ultra 2.
big up seth killian and james chen for the masterful commentary. the guys commentating on the first day should never be allowed to do so again.
I find it funny how many people complain about characters being broken. In vanilla, it was Sagat and Ryu who was broken. Now Rufus is the problem. Do you people see anything wrong here? Well I do, US players have no nutts. NONE what so ever... Instead of finding ways to win, US players find ways to BITCH about reasons why they're not winning. America, lets grab our nutts for once, and think of ways to better our overall game. Damn...
@bananainsaneface #94
"I don't think Daigo will be able to beat Justin considering Ryu is nerfed (dp has no priority and super trap is removed) and those were great tools against Rufus. Not to mention Rufus can shut down Ryu with his new Ultra 2"
Yeah, It's quite possible. Ryu gets quite useless ultra2 (it doesnt change the fact that it's one of the coolest ultras though) and all those nerfs while Rufus stays basically the same (and don't tell me about those less important damage nerfs). Daigo will probably keep using Guile against Justin (I hate that fact... but most anti projectile ultras are useless against Guile's projectiles).
#100: "Instead of finding ways to win, US players find ways to BITCH about reasons why they're not winning. America, lets grab our nutts for once, and think of ways to better our overall game. Damn..."
There are people in America winning plenty of matches with Rufus who think the character is somewhat overpowered. There are almost certainly people in other countries who feel similarly. This isn't about weirdo nationalism BS.
Yes, in SFIV Sagat and Ryu were often considered to be overpowered, and in SSFIV they received some adjustments targeting this problem. But Rufus was up at the top as well; did he receive such adjustments? Or is he, relatively speaking, better than ever? It's a fair question.
Wow, just wow. So many people were all, like, "OMG Capcom you have to nerf Sagat! This guy is so broken, nobody else stands a chance against him!" So, Capcom nerfs Sagat. Are those people happy now? No, now they're all like, "OK Capcom, that was a nice start but now you have to do something about Rufus! This guy is so broken, nobody else stands a chance..."
Yeah, I think we're getting the picture now. I'll agree that Sagat was legitimately broken. Even for as little as I trust tier lists, it says something when the guy on top is as far above the next lowest as that guy is from middle tier. But here's the thing: nobody was saying a word about Rufus being *that* good in vanilla, strong yes but no more so than Ryu and Akuma. And Rufus hasn't gotten significantly stronger in SSFIV, in fact I understand he took more damage nerfs than most, and lots of characters below him were buffed as well.
What this says to me is that people are *always* going to complain about the best character, no matter how small a margin makes them superior. And make no mistake, unless they're all identical there will always be a best character. I will admit, the dive kick is annoying. But it was annoying before, and people weren't waving the torches and pitchforks then.
This is the most balanced Street Fighter ever. I'm not going to tell anyone to shut up and accept it the way it is, no, never that crap. But at least grow a little perspective. Rufus may indeed be the best now, he may have a spammable move, but he is *nothing* like vanilla Sagat. Also, in light of that you might want to consider if it's really Rufus dominating everyone, and not Justin Wong.
The better player wins 90% of the time, and there will always be a top tier character, so live with it. Shout out to JUICEBOX get HYPE!
CLARIFICATION:
Maybe some of us Americans can't word things properly (or get too frustrated) and therefore we overuse "BROKEN" while refering to things that seem "slighly too good." We know though that ssf4 is a well balanced game and victories are mostly determined by players' skill...
please see @73
Have these matches been recorded? If so, where can one expect them to be uploaded?
Definitely Rufus is taking all the fun out from SSF4.
All the other characters are pretty well balanced, they even managed to nerf Sagat making he balanced compared to the others.
It would be great to watch Justin playing with other characters depending on the match-up but of course he“ll keep up with Rufus, since all he wants is the money from the tourneys.
@100
Rufus was ALWAYS a problem. Everyone knew that he was ridiculous in SF4. The superficial damage and hit point nerfs he received in SSF4 are nothing compared to the massive buff that is ulta 2. He doesn't have a single bad matchup in SSF4 because of that ultra.
In the end, divekicks simply do not belong in a game that was designed to attach heavy risk to jumping. It gives Rufus a massively unfair advantage.
Basically Juicebox is the man and we need to see a compilation of ALL JUICECAM highlights, someone make it happen! One video...ALL JUICE!
@Caramujov2
learn 2 play? I'm pretty certain you're only talking about taking the fun out of streams, cuz only Justin is that good with Rufus. You can safe jump u2, so just be careful. There aren't that many people with Justin's reactions, and this doesn't effect you, and if Rufus got worse, Justin is going right to Balrog.
Play 2 win at tournaments, not play to style.
@ Pig_Red
Bogus argument about heavy risks to jumping. Most dragon punches trade, and damage was lowered for dragon punches across the board. They designed the game so that there is a lower risk to jumping, and gave like 6 characters moves to change their trajectory in the air.
ofcourse rufus is overpowered when justin wins with him. then ryu is overpowered when daigo beats justin. i'm sure guile is overpowered because the best sf4 player in the world wins with him.
Rufus is not broken. He is good but not unbeatable. I am glad you guys are crying about a rushdown character in this game. It prove to me that you guys loved the turtle-fest that was Vanilla. Justin is a good player and Rufus is a good character so it makes since for him to pick him.
Yes, Justin Wong is good...and so is Ricky Ortiz...and I didn't have any doubt that their *Rufus vs. Rufus* match was determining who would be grand champ.
#118: "Justin is a good player and Rufus is a good character so it makes since for him to pick him."
Which characters aren't good? What if they were? Wouldn't that make sense?
#109: "Have these matches been recorded? If so, where can one expect them to be uploaded?"
Check out comment #83. It has a link.
@118
The problem isn't that he's a rushdown character. It's that he's a rushdown character with grappler-level hit points. He had no business with 1150 hit points in SF4 and he has no business with 1050 in SSF4. He should be in Viper/Cammy territory.
And as I said, divekicks just don't work in this engine. They allow Rufus to bypass one of the rules of SSF4 that every other characters has to abide by: the risk of jumping. He creates momentum by doing something that other characters aren't allowed to do and he has no weaknesses to balance this out.
Funny thing is when Justin started playing Rufus, he wasn't considered good yet. Even to this day, there aren't a lot of people who would think he is good if they haven't seen what a top level Rufus can do. Considering the lack of good Sagats & Akumas in the US, I don't even think US tournaments result proves how good Rufus is.
If Rufus is such a good character, shouldn't more us play Rufus. Look at Japan which embraced vanilla Sagat. Half the players with highest BP played Sagat and there was a Sagat in every tournament finals. And did it harmed the SF4 scene there? Well, Japan currently has best players of every SF4 arcade character in the world and the winners of all the majors don't even play Sagat.
We need more competitive spirit if we want to improve our game instead of whining for changes. Keep our complaints for characters that are worth banning.
@#119 Sorry for not being clear. I meant to say that rufus is a stong character. Sagat, ryu, rufus, are all strong characters and I won't blame anyone for picking them at a tournament.
@#120 Rufus does not have a free jump on every character. Honestly I know for a fact that his dive kicks can be a pain but I have seen people zone them out with normals. (ex. Guile and Dhalsim come to mind)
The game is still very new. Give people a chance to adjust to Rufus before you say he's broken.
Rufus is not broken. He's really only dangerous once he has meter. Until that point, rush him down. Know your spacing, and learn which of your char's normals can beat his dive kick. Better yet, learn to use Rufus, so you know what his strengths/weaknesses are. He was my main in vanilla since release, so I know what to look for, and what works and what doesnt. I have yet to use him in Super though cuz of all the diversity in the new chars. yes, he is challenging to beat, but he's far from broken.
What good does complaining do? Seriously.
Lets get it on!
