Playable Giant characters, Gold Lightan and PTX-40A, were featured in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom on the Wii. They are very large and had quite a bit more health than most of the other fighters, so they were the only competitors in this 2 vs. 2 team game that didn't get a partner.I think Giants should be in MvC3. The roster is probably going to be huge, and having some characters that play completely different would be a good idea. You don't want people who break the game, but TvC's implementation of Giants seemed to be pretty good.
I think Giants should take up two character slots in MvC3. They'd get one partner, but do more damage and have more health to make up for the fact.
It'd throw a bit more variety into the game.
Please do NOT have Giant characters.
Every time I Vs a PTX-40A, I get beat pretty badly. Want to know the reason? You can't touch him.
Yep.
When you hit him, he gets Red Life. You want to know what he does with the tiniest bit of Red Life?
Chainsaw -> Baroque -> Chainsaw = Half my life. Every time.
If they include Giant Characters, my ONLY request, is their blocking abilities are limited, or disabled. I'm banking on no blocking; they have way more health than needed, they give out OOLONGS of damage, and one wrong move, its over. Some balancing should be included to giant characters, they seem to have a big advantage over normal characters, besides the size and damage factors.
Characters like Roll, Frank, Morrigan, Saki, and, the biggest, Jun the Swan, have advantages themselves, but still, that's a small margin of the overall roster.
why not? sentinel is high tier so then make other high tiers with sentinel ( apocolypes, etc..) As for low or mid tiers like juggernaut and stuff just add more for them as well. Same thing with cable, IF your going to leave him in MvC3 add Bishop on their. With a huge rosted theress no need of balancing the old characters when theres new characters in the whole new game. No need to fix it if it aint broken ^^
I love the giants. PTX was actually my favorite character in TVC.
I'm not sure if it would be better as a single entry with tons of health, or a giant and a normal sized character.
On the one hand, having the normal sized character that you can tag in would make it so the giants could recover that chunk of health they'd lost, which is good for the giant player, but not so good for the other guy. I guess it might be a balance issue, but I trust Capcom to figure it out.
I think big characters, like Sentinel or Juggernaut can be classified as big characters, and make them take up the slot of 2 characters, similar how Capcom vs SNK has ratios with characters. I think this will make things a bit more fair and balanced.
On Capcom's side, PTX can return, or maybe Dr.Wiley or Sigma in a larger form. Capcom has a big catalog.
Meh. I don't really care one way or the other. I personally don't like playing as them or against them, but if other people do, that's fine. Although I agree that if they have super armor, they should at least have some limits to their blocking. Don't remove it outright, but do something to balance it a bit more.
Giant characters should definitely be in MVC3. Heck, why not throw the bosses from the previous games? I think they shouldn't stick to 30 characters as rumour said. I think they should maximize the amount of characters. Giant characters would add more flavour and fun to the game. A whole new game plan would be needed to beat them.
For me at least, it all comes down to balance. I don't have anything against giant characters, but when the character roster is larger, balance becomes a big issue, and having characters with a completely different playstyle makes balancing that much harder.
I can picture matches where people would just keep running away from giant characters and spamming projectiles/building meter. But if they can make it work, I wouldn't mind.
Yes. Giant Sentinel is not only proper sentinel height but balanced. Sentinel in MvC2 is a GOD. Take away his partners or since its 3v3 make it so big characters have one partner.
Big character takes two spaces and they can use one partner.
Small characters can have two partners. more balance.
Thats my one gripe about MvC2, the ever so broken top tier characters. This is one way to fix this.
While I have no problem with giant characters, I don't think they would work well in MvC3.
They worked in TvC because a giant character could simply fill both character slots. Since MvC3 is 3v3 instead of 2v2, you'd either
A) Have the giant character fill up all 3 slots which would be extremely difficult if not impossible to balance since how can you really make one character be as good as 3 separate ones or
B) Have the giant character fill 2 slots like in TvC, allowing you to pair them up with one other character. This creates all kinds of other problems since you would be able to tag the giant guy out and allow him to recharge on the bench among other issues.
Again, I have nothing against giant characters, but I think they would create more trouble than they're worth(and this is coming from someone who initially was rooting for a "Dr. Wily in a giant robot" character)
I'm definitely in favor of giant characters. TvC's execution was pretty good (balance, uniqueness, fun, etc), and I'm sure the team will only improve it. As for how many slots they occupy, yeah, I'm not sure.
@#7: "On the one hand, having the normal sized character that you can tag in would make it so the giants could recover that chunk of health they'd lost"
Indeed. But making giants recover 2x or 3x slower should fix this, don't you think? Not that this is the only problem with switching.
@#6 "With a huge rosted theress no need of balancing the old characters [...] No need to fix it if it aint broken"
LOL.
it would be pointless and boring since on TvC when someone pickup a Giant you would pick 2 characters that obviously have throw projectile effect and the battle gets slow and boring the giant trying to enter the wall of projectiles MvC3 as keeping the 3 on 3 tag that for sure removes definitely the option for a single character match and possibly wouyld happen the same situation at the end becoming boring and slow game with no real advantage of the "Exchange Button" since you wouldn't launch a giant to the air, or slam it. So stick to the Rules 3 vs 3 "Tag" battles as has always been.
**** no. Giants are boring to watch, but they're fun to use.
If you can have Hulk in the game I'm sure you can add a giant robot or two
I think Giants would be a great addition to MvC3. In TvC the giants were super annoying, yes, but they were beatable. (Even though it meant being super cheap in some cases) If giants are included they need to take up all 3 slots. The way they were in TvC would work because they were susceptible to command throws and would be stuck in a combo even though they could move if they were hit which works.
Of course, adding these characters would probably piss a lot of people off, after playing for a while and tactics are figured out I'm sure they wont be hated so much :P
I think giants in mvc3 would be great. Because of their mobility, they're more likely to receive a variety of attacks to shut down most of the cast. Giant characters are also very close to be considered boss characters when playing people and I like that feeling.
It would be interesting to see what capcom can do so I'm all for giant characters
It's all cool and stuff seeing them in the game and what not but fighting against them is a hassle. You have to completely change your play style to spam them to death with projectiles. I personally hate that tactic and I enjoy doing combos as such I say no to Giants in MvC3 and with that regard I say no to Sentinel being in the game in general.
if this was a 2v2 i could def see it working but balancing it for 3 v 2 would be kinda tough. Unless they do something like allowing the gaint character to have 1 partner character. If they can balance it im all for it but if not then dont even bother.
Hmm, well it would need some reworking since it's 3v3 not 2v2 now. So they'd either need to be able to switch with one other guy or have more health to make up for having to fight 3 guys now. They are definitely fine where it is when it comes ot attack power, they'd just need to be more resilient to take on another fighter at once.
I'd personally love to see giants in MvC3, but maybe just one per side like TvC. Capcom can keep the PTX-40A, he was really fun, but I would like to see the pilot himself get more personality. Marvel should totally get Giantman. I'd love to have me some playable Hank Pym.
that would b ok but only 1 of 2 characters galactus no actually only galactus and he would b part of the final boss fight...
.
Giant characters should be in the game but they should cout as two people not 1
They'd actually require less counter picking if 1.) It was 1 giant and 1 normal instead of 1 giant and 0 normals and 2.) Giants were still vulnerable, if not more vulnerable (large hitbox would help) to knock outs.
Strats would probably focus around keeping the giant out of the game and focusing on the partner to get rid of their assist, then working on the giant. That seems like it'd definitely be manageable to balance.
If CAPCOM is going to inject Giant Characters in MVC3 is OK with me as long as they make people scare of rushing in like in SF4/SSF4. But if they are slow and people can just rush in without being afraid of strength or Command Grabs than NO WE DON'T WANT THEM.
The giant characters should be banned. And that's not just because Marn and JWong said so.
Giant characters are simply uninteresting to watch. The whole idea behind beating the giants is to use counterpick characters and kiting them around for 99 seconds. It requires players to play completely different...Which in itself would be fine, but the method that is most effective to beat the giants happens to be very boring to watch in tournaments.
Giants were a fun experiment, but when it comes to tourney play...no thanks!
I wasn't a fan of the giant characters in TvC and I don't see myself changing that stance anytime soon. The fights are boring. PTX can be scary effective forcing players to adapt a very cautious hit and run style that, let's face it, is boring as heck to watch or participate in. Lightan on the other hand is so bad that he's a waste of a character slot. I can think of a lot of Marvel characters that would fit the giant character role but I'd rather have the game be fun than feature "realistic" character sizes.
I think giants worked better in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom because it was easier to balance, two regular characters or one giant character. I don't think that will carry over to Marvel vs. Capcom 3 very well. If a giant character is as strong as two regular characters, that means it'll have one regular character backing it up which is entirely different considering it has someone to tag in. There's always the possibility of giants being even more powerful in Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and taking up all three slots. I'm being open-minded about it. If Capcom can balance it well, I'm on board. I just don't want an over-emphasis on defense; for example, a giant starter decimating the other team and tagging out while a regular character sacrifices itself by turtling and giving the giant time to regenerate its red stamina.
Don't waste the time with giant characters, it's a hassle to make them balanced and we want the best balanced game possible, and making them take up two slots instead of one + 1 normal character just makes it even harder to balance properly.
Make the a boss character if you must like #10 said, nothing more.
Hulk is not a giant= Juggernaut shouldn't be giant
Giants, should take up 2 slots and should include people like Stature(the second ant man's daughter),Wily Machine 9.1(a redesign of the one from megaman 9),Sigma (Megman X8),
In the case of Sent. Rocket punch should have a longer frames like either the delay between activation and actual attack or the attack should have longer recover to help balance it out.
If Jin is in, his mech, BX-02 Blodia, should be it's own character and if he should team up with Blodia (or Zero Akuma) he'll be able to do special team up attacks
I think giant characters are pretty cool and did add a fun little flavor to TvC, but I'm not sure if they'd fit right in MvC3, for a 3-on-1 battle. I'm sure opinions would run the gamut from "stupidly unfair" and "worthless." It'd be nice to see Sentinel get buried into obscurity, but, let's keep the characters normal-sized for MvC3. I wouldn't complain if there turns out to be giants in the game, but it's not something I'll clamour for.
There will be Giant characters in the game but it'll probably be the boss. :P
Marvel has the recurring theme of many vs 1 big boss in a lot of it's stories. It would be a missed opportunity to not include it.
I'm thinkin about online play a big character online would be nirve racking but stronge guy starts small and get bigger the madder he gets or red hulk
In terms of balance, I'd rather see a Giant character be slightly underpowered than overpowered. If they're overpowered, people will complain to no end about how they ruined the game. If they're underpowered, no big deal. Just don't play with them. Since they'll be new characters they won't have any existing fanbase to whine about how they got nerfed.
Oh, and giant-Sentinal is a bad idea. Take one of the most cherished, most used characters from MVC2 and completely change how he plays? People are gonna be pissed about that.
Please leave them out, they really didn't fit into the game at all, and seemed really strange to have them in a vs game.
I'm for giants. I'm not sure how they could work in a 3vs3 (they'd have to be more powerful than TvC giants, which could be dangerously hard to balance out), but I'd love to see them. To give a single character enough tools to make it worth a sacrifice of three characters, assists, hyper options and all other likely meter possibilities with an actual team...they'd have to be really damn good, which also means that at the casual/beginner level of play, they'd be undoubtedly strong since the casual players probably aren't using or focusing on team dynamics anyway, meaning that the casual player he's fighting could much more easily mash out a win, basically. The same was with TvC, but it'd be worse if the giants were better, and they'd definitely have to be.
Giants are cool as long as they remain unplayable, as bosses!
Like Apocalipse! That`s fine.
Can't imagine 2 giant players fighting, too boring.
But I would love to see a lot of huge chars like Juggernaut and Sentinel back in this sequel.
I only ask Capcom to do one thing. Get Apocalypse in the game as a Tall "normal" sized character with new moves. That would bring supremely more hype. Since we may not see another vs game like this for a while I say give fans what they want. I hope that if Apocalypse is in the game they don't make him huge like he was in past games.
It would be cool as it would mean a change of strategy while fighting against one, similar to boss battles from the previous games, but how can they balance this characters so that it's not like you're fighting against a setinel-cable-storm team from MvC2?
and any decision capcom makes about the sentinel will be loved by many and hated by many, personally i would like to see him rebalanced, but i know that will ruin the style of play of many...
...whatever, i will play this game anyway.
Yes, giants should always exist, especially if they are gonna be robots.
Unless they're unplayable bosses...no thanks.
Save that kind of work for more "legit" characters.
I would love to see giants in this game. Specifically, for the Marvel side... Sentinel. Playing as a Sentinel that's closer in size to the kind that most people think about when people think of Sentinel would be awesome. The Sentinel be a little more accurate to what most Sentinels are like (I know there's different models of Sentinels, but the most famous ones are the giant ones), which I would find very appealing. Whether or not he takes two slots or three will remain to be seen, though, but I'm sure Capcom will be able to iron that all out. I actually do think giant characters are one of the most interesting additions to the versus series thus far.
If only Optimus Prime/Megatron were Marvel/Capcom...
Anyway, I'm all for Giant Characters. Maybe 2 for each side-that'd be nice. Obviously MvC2 already had a giant-Servbot.
Giant Sentinel........God help us all.
