Capcom expects to sell 2 million copies of Marvel vs. Capcom 3

Capcom expects to sell 2 million copies of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 after it's released in the spring of 2011, according to a report Siliconera.com picked up.

This is pretty comparable to vanilla Street Fighter 4, which to date has moved roughly 2.8 million copies world wide. Capcom recently announced Super Street Fighter shipped 1 million units around the globe, which was the mark they were originally aiming for.

According to VGChartz, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars on the Wii has sold about 250,000 copies to date and Seth Killian called the title a success considering it beat out initial sales expectations.

Capcom is obviously planning on Marvel vs. Capcom 3 being a big title for them, and with the sales of Marvel vs. Capcom 2's re-release drastically overperforming what they had originally hope for, there's lots of reason for them to be optimistic.

despite all these controller rages going around i think they will manage because it catered to the casual crowd before anyone else anyway. at least it will hit 3 mill i can see why they aimed so high.

After spring 2010? lol. you meant 2011 right? typo. Hmm.. on a side note,they also mentioned the same estimate before Vanilla SFIV came out. And if I'm not mistaken, with SSFIV as well.

TvC was wasted on the Wii. I'm sure its a good game but nintendo doesnt have the most conventional stock fighting controller. Also, its cool Capcom took the risk and I'm sure it looked good on paper, but I think the real versus fighting fans live on xbox and ps. I'm sure capcom would have sold more TvC copies if they released it for the Dreamcast (R.I.P.) - even in 2009

Siliconera.com and its source better correct their typo before Capcom gets on this asz. The article states MVC3 comes out on Spring 2010. From what I remember, the game comes out Spring 2011...

DMC4 only SHIPPED(Mind you shipping=/=sales)2 million last time I've heard so I don't think they'll ship 3 million just because of appearance in game let alone sell 3 million

This will only be big because of the tons of hype marvel is generating on all fronts(comics,tv shows,movies)

With them giving the game TvC controls, don't expect alotta hardcore guys to pick it up.

I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or not. Sorry, its hard to listen for it through the internet.

If you are not, I would have to disagree. Capcom is popular everywhere for obvious reasons (Sf, DMC, Just Cause, lost planet, megaman etc). Marvel is surprisingly popular as well. Even in Japan, they're starting to make marvel manga. Not kidding, look up marvel Manga Spiderman.

Anyone have a feeling that MVC3 is going to be tweaked a lot so the casual player can enjoy it more??? I have a feeling the hardcore are going to be a bit disappointed at first but will eventually warm up to it. I mean the game is pretty hectic and complexed. They have dumbed down games a lot lately so it might be a possibility that they would do the same for MVC3. Hopefully they won't but, even if they do I'm pretty sure I'll warm up to it after playing it a few times.
