RivenX3i had this to say about the project...
My team and I just finished our first game to live action short, based off of the popular Capcom franchise: Street Fighter. Its always pained us not to see the movies focus on the two most iconic characters from the series so we thought wed pay tribute to the epic fighters that Capcom have created and make a small short film demonstrating some of their talents; all the while showing a take on Ken and Ryu at their dojo before Ryu enters the World Warrior Tournament for the first time (Street Fighter 1 Territory).
The short consisted of a $400 (out of pocket) budget, was shot on the Canon EOS 7D, edited in Final Cut Pro and effects work done in Adobe After Effects. We hope you enjoy what we have put together! My dream is to make feature films that focus on video games/comics/anime and adapt them into a live action format. I'm hoping this is a step in the right direction.
Decently made- but very STUPID. Acting was horrible and what little dialogue that they had was silly. Sure, on a technical standpoint it was OK- the whole thing was just very uninspired.
Great job! @4, I disagree. I thought the important part (the fighting) was very well done, I loved the sound too.
Thanks for this video guys! It's very well made. I especially like the opening scene with the intro music and the backdrop. In my opinion you captured Ryu's and Ken's personality very well. I'd love to see a short 30 min- 1 hr. movie made about these two iconic street fighter characters in the near future as well. Although next time hire Daigo Umehara as Ryu, lol.
Very impressive. I enjoyed how true to the franchise the video was. Even managed to emulate one important aspect of the game: even though the characters speak different languages, they can still understand each other.
eventhubs wheres my credit??? i told u guys about this, this morning!
@MischievousMole
only thing stupid is ur retarded a$$, how the hell is the acting horrible when theres not much goin on to even judge? and stupid dialogue? thats exactly what they would say to each other u moron. god dam i hate these stupid looser haters who think the world owes them sh*t
did u not notice even the normal moves and throws were the same as in the game?? idiot
i said it once and ill say it again.. sf fans are starting to become worst then scifi startrek nerds
it was pretty good for $400, But that wig is top tier
I like how the people who made this kept it original. They didnn't screw it up like the writers in hollywood who think they are cleaver putting their own stupid little twist on it.
For an low budget movie, this looks impressive. I would trust these guys with a real thing.
The only hard part would be the casting. Street Fighter has some pretty odd looking people like Honda, Blanka, Hakkan and a lot more others.
@ Ricefarmer
"i said it once and ill say it again.. sf fans are starting to become worst then Sonic fans"
Not that I'm a trekie of anything, just thought I'd fix that line for ya ;D
C'mon Ryu, you've gotta DP after those focus crumples! Get it together.
That was pretty dang sweet, especially for a $400 fan short. They should have sprung for a better wig, and Ken's "Again!" could have been delivered in a more manly tone, but all in all it's something the creators should be very proud of. They really went out of their way to make it true to the SFIV cinematics.
easily the best live action street fighter film ever. the choreography was very good. actually used many true ryu/ken techniques and stood true to their fighting styles. i wish these guys the best of luck.
The person in charge of this short film should be the one directing future Street Fighter films.
This is what is all about.
This is my first ever comment on EventHubs, and what I would like to start of is by saying an amazing job by EVERYONE involved with this.
I study as an audio engineering student and we also have film students at my college. Those guys have some amazing ideas but very little in the way of funding, so they have to borrow/beg/steal to get their work done.
I can truly say from experience that this one the most amazing things that has ever been done in street fighter history, since the 2 Hollywood produced live action movies, were utter garbage, at least from a story and canon point of view.
Additionally, since sound is my main department, I have to say the audio post production quality of this movie is top notch. The use of music, sound effects and Sound special effects (they are 2 different things, had an exam yesterday) was brilliant.
All people involved in this production should, in my opinion, be the people who lead the production of the next SF movie, with a large film crew under them. That would make for an amazing movie experience, something that SF as a series has needed since SF2.
Ken looks like a f-ing tranny... anyway nice effects but crappy vid
$400 definitely went a very long way for these guys.
Casting for the 2 most iconic SF characters is probably the biggest obstacle for any SF production, so I think they deserve a break in that regard.
Sounds and visuals were very impressive, keep up the good work!
That was terrible.. But the funny thing is, it was way better then the films
With a better wig this would and a better metsu this would be perfect and er no fist bump?
but yeah its not g tier but its it definitly is top tier
don't care about acting, don't care about props
fighting was well done, and effects looked great (kens f srk was tops!). However, I would have liked a bare foot ryu who had seen the inside of a gym and an american ken with real hair. Otherwise, great job!
For those who actually (have the nerve) complain or be overly critical, you take 400 bucks and try to make a bette one. The actual movies bugeted millions upon millions and they could'nt even make anything as enjoyable as this. You guys need to support these young directors because these guys are actually talanted directors who like us actually love the Street Fighter Series and would like to eee a real fan adaptation and not butchered by some hollywood money scheme.
Your not a real fan if you don't actually think this was an impressive atempt.
This was great work. Special fx were on point for once. The fighting was excellent. The sound was excellent. You really cant complain about the actors appearances or lines of dialogue. Finding extremely muscular martial artists with great acting ability is unlikely for $400. If anything its just unlikely. These guys are fans as well so much props for the effort. I think the only things i didnt like were the long winded intro w/ the tree shots (It would work for begging credits in an hour long movie) and it was a bit dark.
For $400 & 5mins, the franchise is well represented. Hope to see more!
I see some people giving it props, but I also see a lot of people downing it. First I'd like to say that they did a amazing job considering there very low staff and budget. Like many have noted it was better than that Legend of Chun Li and a HECK of a lot better than that Street Fighter movie with Van Dam playing Guile. From my point of view the did really good. The effects were nice and so were the camera angles. The fight was epic as well. I like how they also threw in a couple of signature moves, but didn't make it look cheesy. When I thought it was really cool when he had Ken do his Dragon punch Super and the flames came out and when he landed it still showed the flames on the ground. People criticize a lot of things, but if they think things are lame and not good then why don't you try it. $400 dollars is not a lot of money all. You be surprised at how much money we waste, weekly and daily. I'm sure the people that are downing this project would not even be able to do a decent fireball or fight scene with the budget they used. With everything been said, I'm going to end with. It was a really good fan made film. The "BEST" I have seen in a long time.
MikeChua= WIN with SF Comedy
anyway for 400 bucks you(who instantly down this movie) do better, you find some blonde dude with long hair who's willing to fight like that
anyway I was expecting more comments about the wig
Some of the editing and shots were alittle to erratic(I can't see wtf is going on when I'm close to them especially the final attack of the match until it cuts to show it) Flash bang sound was way too much over all good though
Anyway boobee_Cakes you seriously need to look up
"Black Buster Critic Sonicfans" on youtube and watch him and the research he's done on those people they ACTUALLY BELIEVE THEY'RE MARRIED TO SONIC CHARACTERS and some have made a top 10 of the hottest female characters in sonic(Spoiler: NONE ARE HUMAN!)
Seriously man I get that SF fans take it far but Sonic fans are still taking it further cause some want to go into furry territory while the farthest I've seen anyone want to go with a street fighter character is making a Loli Elena which is bad but not as bad as wanting to get with cream the rabbit(she's 8, she not human, and there's no possible way a girl like her could ever exist)
@63
The good thing about Sonic and Sonic-fans is that no one gives a sh1t about them.
Jesterhead I give a f*** about the games mainly cause Sonic 4 looking pretty clean and looks like the game alot of old school sonic fans like me(I didn't he have a Genesis but knew sonic was the ish) been waiting for after the okay entry to full 3D that was Adventure 1 and the HUGE disappointment that was Adventure 2 onward (the story was god aweful to the point even I didn't want to defend it). I give a damn about sonic because it was something cool just the extreme people I'm talking about(like a kid who had a law changed just so he could have a pet hedgehog, cause he liked sonic)extreme fanbase killed it on top of the horrible just dropping the ball games(Sonic 2006 onward except for secret rings) and anime(Sonic X) that are supported by the fan base who defend them.
and Jesterhead seriously man before September 2008 I've never heard of the fighting game scene community being this big ever!
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than than chun-li movie crap, but ur ganna hafta get some actual strong lookin guys, no offence to the actors
Cool round fights! Nominee for best film short based on a video game right here.
i watched this again and it makes street fighter legacy look like poopookaka
OH sweet lordilord... they did it. I want more... MORE!!!!
The Ken on the legacy vid looked way better but this is friggin so well designed overall.
i loved the "round 2", "round 3" transitions and the dialogue was accurate to what i would have imagined.
The Ultra 2 cancel at the end was so Sagat Tier.
mix the ken actor in the other fan base into this and it would be just WOW
i mean its great enough already but imagine how much more when that ken look a like in the other fan base film gets filmed in this...
Actually pretty well done for 400 bucks. Loved the ending
