This requires a lot of skill to pull because this video demonstrates gief's ultra when he knows the opponent is gonna do something. But in real matches you're gonna have to read your opponent so this ultra seems "crazy/scary" because this video allows it to be perceived like so... so yes, a good ultra for gief and still requires skill and reading your opponent carefully
I don't really think this makes Gief that much crazy better. I feel event hubs and srk should shut down until the 27th. Who knows what or who this guy is doing. He could of done that 1000 times before it hit. Who knows until millions of people pay ssf4 for millions of hours.

if it's a grab and not a "hit" based ultra this gona be to strong by far. dont even have to land, shut donw any reversals and it's most likely a no brainer to pull off and land it.
means even more cheesy chicken style with fireball chars against gief. and the one without are doomed.

if u want to get technical the whole ultra system is basicly a non skill comeback mechanism. Why should u get a super powerful attack for loseing?
Also this is only the first looks at the ultra in action. Im super grounded anti airs will beat it, or really deep specials. So u just have to be really careful when hiting him out of the air. Honestly this ultra would basicly nuetralize air to air juggles into ultra combos, Meaning bisons number 1 is totally useless veruss gief with ultra 2.

**Noticed**combo for green glove still looked like it does a good deal of damge. good to see. and the ultra2 is going to make the other person think twice before jumping up againist the giefer!!!!It looks like ultra 2 eats all other moves once airboned?? I like that it still gives hope for the REDCYCLONE!!! due to the fact that last week all the post about nerfing him was making people think twice about the big guy. hmmmm maybe that's way they had to nerf him to Hello balance the game!!LOL I will still Main the REDCYCLONE!!!! Just to clarify, I was under the impression that the opponent also had to be in the air for this to work. And it does look like all the grabs are done against opponents who either jump or do some move which puts them in a jump state.
So, to people saying "the only way out is to back-dash" I would think that you could also just stand there and not do a wake-up move or any other move that puts you in a jump state, but I could be mistaken.

You do nothing and risk getting SPD. Or you can backdash. Unless you're in a corner. Then you have to dash forward.
What do you do? Use a ground-based anti-air instead of spamming SHORYUKEN!!1!
Don't forget gief option select to guy so if you back dash.To much you goin be eating a green hand ever now and thin i think this makes gief pretty nasty.His inside game is mad sick now.
It looks like it can only grab opponents in the air. So if you a "normal" anti-air, not a "special" anti-air (ie: dp) then you should be safe, right? It makes sense to me. His ultra 1 can only grab opponents on the ground and ultra 2 grabs in the air.
I just find it amusing the amount that people cried over the nerfs a few days ago and how that has changed into people crying that this new Ultra is OP.
If anything, this should really tell people to relax until the game is out. Day to day crying from one extreme to the other is ridiculous.

The game isnt out we dont know how good he will be. Stop complaining so far the game has gotten nothing but compliments from testers, magazines etc. SSF4 will be amazing and balanced just like they promised plus i dont see a grappler being OP unless they really wanted to make them god teir there is just to much zoning options and so on to prevent them, so i dont see him being anywhere near as powerful as sagat in SF4, which was actually deserving of the title OP.
screw the fact that its anti air and ground..someone please tell me that was NOT a CROSSUP ULTRA at the end..if it is.. then... well.. i dont know what to say

Sakura has a godly anti-air c.HP. But remember that Zangief has to empty jump for this to work, so any ground-based normal will work just fine. Obviously Zangief is going to try to train you to use dragon punches et al. by jumping in with j.HP, etc., before jumping in with Ultra II, but a big part of SF comprises avoiding being baited.
When I heard about the nerfs, I thought I might actually not hate Zangief in this game. But now, this. Oh well, at least this takes more skill for people to pull off than just hitting 3 punches every time I look at them funny.
I would of thought you could counter this with crouching HP with most characters and any other grounded normal anti-airs like Sagat's standing HK. @#34 in Abel's case you could anti-air crouching HP into ultra.

The only way I could avoid Zangief's grab is by constantly jumping around to avoid his grab, So now Zangief covers air, then how are we supposed to go around him?
Not to mention his Ultra took as much as 600 damage (at least in SF4), which is ridiculous. All the efford other players trying to hit him, what Zangief needs is just one god-damn atomic Buster and the tide changed or even win the game.
Many ultras deals super high damage (500 or more), Zangief, Blanka, Akuma, Ryu, Dan
Pathetic unsetupable high risk low reward Ultras like Guile, even could miss on wakeup cross up.
You can launch this ultra from the ground by doing a 1080 spin on the arcade stick. Similarly if timed correctly nothing will hit him unless it's right on the top of his head.
That being said it can grab ANYTHING as long as the character's feet aren't on the ground: Ibuki's overhead kick, Chun-Li's crossover kick, Guile's upside down kick/floating long kick/floating knee kick. If the character is even slightly hovering off the ground you can grab them with Siberian Blizzard, timing and pulling off the 1080 are the only issues.
For clarification, lariat to FADC seems to be impossible to connect. I've spent a solid 4-5 hours trying all over the training map to connect it and he'll just ignore the character every time even if he's within grab range. It doesn't make sense to me why this can't connect especially considering you can connect a flash kick FADC into both of Guile's ultras....
That is why he got nerfed! scary!
