In case you haven't been keeping up, this created a bit of a stir in the community the other day when it was discovered you can do an unblockable Ultra with some characters in vanilla Street Fighter 4.
@#7 Why is it that from a name calling, you have to go on with a racial slur? Also with a name as "Capcomdoingthingsright" and bashing capcom's latest incarnation of the SF series saying it sucks it's kinda ironic or just f--king stupid as hell from your part.
lol @ all the clueless scrubs that complain about this. seriously, this isnt that big of a deal, and this is coming from a balrog player who has no unblockable ultra.
first of all, its not unavoidable, its unblockable. second, its not worth the FADC and revenge gauge to gamble on it connecting both because of your own error and because your opponent can easily get out of it (reversal ultra, back dash, character specific stuff like reversal blanka ball, etc).
this will be less broken than roll canceling and kara throws, which arent broken at all.
I hate this BS so much. I was interested to see the news the other day - the fact that there's still new things to be discovered in SF4 even so long after its release, and now with Super' right around the corner. Especially something this massive. But it's really disappointing to see it confirmed as present in SSF4, it really has no business being in the game.
Reading a discussion of the issue on the SRK forums the other day had me raging (to myself, personally... I didn't bother to make a post). A lot of people that would probably regard themselves as "1337" (see: no life nerds) were actually getting into some serious debate about the whole thing - discussing the relative merits and uses of the setup etc. - and calling the glitch a "mixup"...
"It's just a mixup is all, it's really no more than a standard mixup. With the exception of Seth, it'll cost far too much meter to be worth using widely or run a risk of becoming OP. Personally, I can't wait to use this sh*t hyar hyar rock on".
No. Just fscking no. Anyone saying anything like this seriously needs to get some perspective - listen to yourself and what you're saying. Because this isn't a mixup; it's a retarded, game-altering oversight that has no place being present in a finished, supposedly polished software product. Games are released to the mass market for its enjoyment - not to you so that you can spend countless hours theorizing to other dysfunctional nerds with too much free time over the internet. That's what games are. It's how they work. Sorry.
Literally... first time somebody lands one of these setups on me online - in SF4 or Super' - I'm done. Done as done is done. At least until the dev's do what they ideally should have already and patch that sh*t clean out. I'd be very surprised, however, now that it's public knowledge, if I don't see a day one patch for this from Capcom. Same treatment needed for SF4, too. A bug of this size making its way on to not one but TWO consecutive gold masters unnoticed should be a huge embarassment to any self-respecting developer. Do what's right, Capcom.
Soul Hoe.
Screw this, what I want to know is why all these dudes are getting to play it long before everyone else. I want an 'evaluation' copy to take home too. This blows.
@SoulHoe
dude you should chill and take a deep breath
soulhoe's first fighting game was street fighter 4, clearly.
its a very expensive mix up, its in no way broken, it can be escaped, it just cant be blocked. its the polar opposite of roll cancels (cant be hit but blockable) and the exact same thing as the unblockable CC (valle CC?) in SFA2.
fsck, this is less broken than genijin.

No, see, there you go. /This is not a mixup/. Don't call it something that it isn't; it's a bug/glitch/flaw/exploit. And you're also doing exactly what I described in my post and discussing the issue as if it's an intended gameplay feature. Bottom line: it's stupid, and it needs out.
The first fighting game I played was SF2 on the SNES in my youth. I also played some Street Fighter 1 when I picked up a SF box set for the PC around the same time. Between then and now I've only dabbled in fighting games, picking up console titles like Killer Instinct, War Gods, a little Tekken along the way. I've also played a little Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur and Virtua Fighter in passing in arcades over the years. So while SF4 isn't the first fighting game I've played, it is the first that I've become seriously interested and involved in. Even if it had been the first fighting game I've ever played, why would that make you any more qualified than me to talk on the issue? The issue is one of bug testing and the software development cycle, not simply fighting games.
Roar!!! Me no play SSF4 no more. Me quit if Sagat can hurt me while me blocking!!!
@SoulHoe
Bye bye then! No one will miss you. Like everyone says, it costs a bunch of meter, and crazy good timing to be able to do this consistently. It's unblockable, but it's not unavoidable.
"Even if it had been the first fighting game I've ever played, why would that make you any more qualified than me to talk on the issue?"
First of all, he's not saying he's more qualified. You actually just proved his point with that whole post. SF4 is the first game you took seriously, had you paid attention to other previous games, they had crazy things, sometimes things even worse.
This does NOT make or break the game. Did you quit the SF4 when someone exploited Ryu's Super trick? You jump, and you're caught. Unblockable. Same thing here. You screw up, you get punished for it.

I have a bunch of friends who I play with that would probably miss me quite a bit, but you're right. Although there's no need to be mean.
I'm coming round to the school of thought you outlined in your post now though - that this is pretty much insignificant. The key: actually trying to perform this setup in-game for myself, lol. I see how totally on point with the timing and execution you're needed to be, with the possible exception of Seth's setup (which is sort of dog sh*t).
It's not unimaginable that many players will get this setup down however. Just imagine if someone used it to take the last round of grand finals at some major tournament... say Evo. I think almost everyone would suddenly begin to agree that the exploit is basically horse sh*t, and could do with being patched out. The only reason I was getting so passionate about the issue in my previous posts is because certain "hardcore" players I've seen have been talking about the setup as if it's something they'd like to see remain in the game. Useful or not, I personally believe it should be taken out. Most people complain about how "cheap" and damaging Ultras are in the game as it is. I suppose I'd agree, maining a character like Rose. All of your hard work in grinding down a high-stamina character like Sagat or Zangief can suddenly be levelled with one mistake, despite your overall superior performance. The means to make an Ultra like Sagat's just that much more difficult to anticipate and avoid is just far too much potential for shenanigans in my eyes, if you remove the barrier to execution (which people will surely master in time).
My (/the) main point though is that this is a bug... an oversight. The developers didn't intend for it to be there, and so it'd be best to just patch it altogether to avoid any nonsense in the future. There was a single patch released for SF4 early on to remove Rose's self-reflect fireball shenanigans, if you recall? Along with some other kind of exploit. That was totally impractical, with no real applications, but they removed it all the same. This is really no different.
I don't believe the Ryu setup you mention is really a fair comparison though. My beloved Rose has the ability to do the same, but it's no different from baiting a jump so that you can attempt to land an Ultra. It's just limiting your opponent's options and forcing them to apply something else... dash forward, block and advance. And of course Seth and other cast members have similar pressure from fullscreen with their Ultras. But it's more of a gameplay mechanic, or interesting quirk... it's not really an intentional exploit of one of the game's minor details.
Anyway, like I say, your points are fair. But the issue is a very interesting one, and there's no set way to look at it.
O no NOT again lol.
