sf4 generation >> sf2 generation. i've been saving up for sf4 for weeks but i decided not to get it and wait for SUPER instead since i had a feeling they were gonna release it and i didnt want my first fighting game to be outdated if i got original sf4 even thouh that game is an instant classic. i just KNEW super or turbo was coming and now its almost here!

I don't think SF is so easy to 'master' there's always someone out there who is going to kick your ass. (and I'm not saying it's me either.)
And also if you truly want to master the game, become a championship level player with all 35 characters.

And as for the new player topic, I love seeing more people playing fighting games. I was away from the scene for a long time. I played SF2, then skipped the whole SF3 stage and I've been playing SF4 since it came out.

NICE ACTTITUDE, but sf4 its harder than any shotter game, its not about if your good, in a shotter game you can be very good from the start, SFIV takes time to learn everything, im was #53 on leaderboards at COD WAW with no cheat so iknow why im saying, SFIV took me alot of time to mastered it, and i cant even say i am a PRO.

treasure troll most the games you listed dont even require a brain to play, see a target and shoot, wow. on top of that you are going to main guile, be prepared to lose a lot if u play againts an experienced, camping dont exist in sf4 and there is no thermal barrett character either.

These reviews really mean nothing to me... The games probably aren't reviewed by ppl who are really devoted to fighting games. It's probably reviewed by ppl who review all the games that come in and need a write up.

If you've never played the game seriously, don't expect to be amazing the same week...or even the same month, after you start. Ok mrcocky attitude here's a couple of pointers- calm your attitude down just cause you've mastered shooting games and whatever others you also have doesn't mean you can magically conquer the fighting game scene. Read a couple of articles and see some videos from the pros it takes years. You also said it yourself you never played fighting games till last year smh and u passed on alpha 3 cause it's old?! I don't think I have much more to say after that comment good luck on xbox live. I stick to ps3 so u won't find me but I'm sure you'll faced a skilled player and your crouching and blocking technique won't work.

Attacking at the best time in Street Fighter requires skill, and of course you're expected to block, evade, or tech until the time is right. In a first-person shooter, however, I believe shooting someone who runs in front of an alley and getting a quick kill that way requires considerably less skill. If everyone does it, you haven't got a match at all. Street Fighter is typically much more in-your-face than that.
I'm not being dense; I was assuming you weren't dense and would understand enough of the difference between the two things not to need it spelled out for you.
Fortunately, we now know better.

I was talking about all of your 'I master every game I play', 'I'll master SSFIV cos Game X is harder and I mastered that' rubbish.
We've heard it all from a million other new players with a load of different fighters over the years and when the majority of them realised it was nowhere near as easy as they thought it would be they quit.
Like I said, sit back, read, practice a LOT, play a LOT, then showboat when you have a legitimate right to, otherwise people will get sick of your voice/posts.
@ treasuretroll.I don't know what mastering a game means to you but it seems like everybody replying to you has a different definition of the word master.When you type "i get into any game i play til i master it" you make it seem like you will actually do it.The other games you listed in your other reply are easy to master compared to SF,and you also typed this is your first fighter " i didnt want my first fighting game to be outdated " so if you plan on mastering any SF game i suggest you to drop all your games and play SF only if you seriously want to master it,and get some friends to play with because online = lag and lag doesn't help.

Treasuretroll, you might be best to STFU until you know what you are talking about. SF isn't like Modern Warfare (this coming from someone who was level 10 Prestige + had all Golden Guns in CoD4). I have put in more than 1300 fights with Vega/Claw and I still have a lot to learn. I'm sure a lot of the other regulars on here would say the same.
That said, enjoy the game.

thats a good formula for winning in mw2 alright. get a lead and sit on it by hanging back. some might call it camping, and it only exists in FPS.

Mastering a fighting game.... is.... hard lol. Granted, it takes some skill to master any game. but a fighting game... good luck if it's your first one. in a shooting game. if you react faster.. 9/10 times you will win the firefight, but fighting games. you have to learn combos (both universal and character specific) Match-ups, frame data, baits, punishes, super/ultra set-ups, what to do in what situation, ect. and on top of that. if you don't have the right mentality. You WILL still lose. mastering it comes from playing a lot, getting some tournament experience, playing at sessions, and playing online (usually just shoot someone on the SRK a friend invite and most people will be glad to play you and help you out if need be) I mean... I have been playing street fighter since... well.. awhile now. I try my best to go to sessions and I go to tournaments every now and then. I have yet to master the game as a whole. I have mastered certain aspects. but Treasuretroll, don't let people scare you away from the game. I mean... most of the people who post here don't know to much about the game =P
It does with Gief.Sitting back with Gief is match up specific but it is possible.Not against the whole cast but some characters it is.Example ( Fielong vs gief ) or ( cammy vs gief ) i could be wrong about those chars but i don't think there would be a come back from those chars against a good life lead Gief thats going to sit back.

My point was saying if you don't have the original SF4 by now, you are definitely a casual fan. Even though you play the game w/ your friend. BUT being a casual fan is NOT a bad thing, you have to start somewhere.. and you will probably have most success will Ryu and Ken.
