Street Fighter 4 series producer, Yoshinori Ono, pushed hard to get Rainbow Mika into SSF4, but the game's director didn't follow through on his request according to the MTV Multiplayer Blog.
I'm a big Rainbow Mika fan, I don't know if you remember her. So I wanted to put her in 'Street Fighter 4' and I really wanted to put her in 'Super,' so I basically harassed the director constantly, just whispering in his ear, 'Rainbow Mika! Rainbow Mika!' Unfortunately he didn't listen but maybe next time I'll continue my whisper campaign, we'll see what happens.
We know from past interviews that Ono also wanted Rolento in the game, but he didn't make the final roster this time around.
It's worth noting this because the perception from some fans has been that if Ono wanted something in the game, it was going to happen, but we can see from this and other media clips that there's still a number of people ideas have to go through before they get the greenlight.

I don't understand why people complain about stories posted not being newsworthy. What do you want? Eventhubs is targeted for certain games, and I think it updates news on those games best it can. If it's not enough just go lurk on iplaywinner or SRK or any other fighting game blog

Why do people want R. Mika in the game? I think there are so many more interesting characters to play... It just seems to me that it's people like #3 who just want to see the jiggle physics... Which is obviously totally the wrong reason to put a character in the game, and will just detract from the overall experience... So, R. Mika players, what is it about her gameplay that means you want her in the game? Especially when you consider that other much more interesting characters: Rolento, Sodom, Elena, Yun, Alex, Hugo... @hc00jw: That fact that you mentioned Elena over Rainbow Mika makes me wonder about you wanting the jiggle physics in the game. Either way, Rainbow Mika was a creative character. Being the first female wrestler in the SF series with a unique gameplay style (her 360 grabs functioned differently than Zangief's and she also had her comical flying butt attack). It is true that she may be a form of a sex symbol however most female characters are. Considering how strong Mika's ground game was in Alpha 3, she'd make an excellent character in the Street Fighter IV series. I'm definitely looking forward to her addition in the next IV installment.

It is for character reasons rather than specifics of playstyle—the latter would be updated for a new appearance anyway. I found her enthusiasm, crazy manager character, and magically appearing turnbuckles to be funny, and I liked the way her storyline showed Zangief as a heroic teacher figure. They have also done some good things with Mika in the comics, from which Capcom could draw inspiration.
I don't agree that the other characters you mentioned are any more interesting. Rolento's motivations are duplicates of other members of the cast, Sodom is a one-joke "wannabe Japanese" character, and both fight primarily with weapons, which has always bothered me in the Street Fighter context. Yun was never really developed at all, and Hugo has little motivation to begin with (though he is a highly distinctive design and well suited to his background appearance).
I think Elena deserves future appearances (as does Ono), and Alex, while lacking in some respects, certainly fought in an interesting way.
I also don't understand the critiques leveled at fans who are perceived to want Mika in the game because of her appearance. So what? This is no more or less valid than any other reason for a character's inclusion. It's what they do with her as part of a new game that would matter.

Is there some reason she shouldn't? All the official descriptions state she is still in high school. Since the timeline's never been nailed down to that level of precision, there seems little reason to doubt it.

i think they should make new characters from countries that haven't been touched yet. like there are waaaay toooo many japanese and american fighters. in fact 40% of ssf4's roster are from japan and US. we need some exotic flavor.
like australia has no fighters, africa has one. my top five country suggestions would be New Zealand/Samoa, Egypt, Sweden, Germany and Madagascar.
Birdie would be an interesting character. Hes like balrog and mixed with a grappler. Give him good normals and add different rush puchs and he could be a threat in sf4. Ex rush through ryus fireball then slam lol.
id love to have birdie in ssf4 so i could just take him into training mode and smash him up all day

Sean and they need to put Charlie back in the series. just say people thought he died... but he end up finding another way to escape, but was badly injure from the blast. so he past out and then a local village kids was gathering water and spotted him, then they ran back to there village and told the chief about the unconscious man. then once they brought him back to the village and heal his wounds and then a few months went by, Charlie started to regain conscious. then the village chief ask the stranger name and what happen to him, so he told him his name.. but couldn't remember what had happen to him. there's more to the story. I just want them to bring back Charlie and Sean.

You didn't play everyone in the world, let alone everyone on eventhubs so stfu. Yun, no Gill, no Urien, no! cause Yun is pretty much Gen and pretty much all of Urien is in Abel in one, Gill was a Meh boss his big power was being fire and ice and being able to revive with angel wings.
Well, you can probably guess who I'd prefer over R.Mika (ELENA!), but I think R.Mika is a cool character. She is a little bland as far as grapplers and gameplay go though, but she was a pretty fun design. Rolento was a much more unique design, gameplay wise. I'm actually surprised he didn't make it.
Who knows why they included Adon or Cody, few liked those characters, although Cody looks promising now (gameplay wise). I don't think badly of them, I just would have preferred other alpha characters.
Argh. I quite like Mika. I like playing grapplers and having one who isn't a sweaty man would have been wonderful.
i'm thinking the cast is fine as it is now. if there's gonna be any new characters, rolento is a must. r. mika seems fun, and would probably look nice in 3d ;) which is what i think a lot of mika and elena enthusiasts are most looking forward to, but honestly, i'm more interested in the new characters capcom can come up with. like the granny or the black shoto Cobra(?).
honestly, i don't understand the biig demand of charlie, though, do people really care that much for the story? i mean, i like good stories, but street fighter's story isn't that great imo. i always think there's something deeper but am left with not much.
Whoever said Yun and Gen play alike, you are wrong. Yun and Gen play very differently and don't even share many moves. That's like saying Necro and Dhalsim or Necro and Blanka play similarly when they don't at all. I would like Rolento, Eagle, and Q in, but that will probably never happen.

R.Mika wasn't really bland before Hakan or El Fuerte if you think about it all grapplers were big burly men who had quirks to them while Mika was a fast slender female grappler. The director probably had Hakan's prototype down already as a Turkish oil Wrestler, that's why he rejected Mika. however Mika still has her place as being the only female PURE grappler in SF history

Always liked R. Mika as a character, but I never had much fun playing as 'er. I would've really liked to see her in the game, but as much of an Alpha fan as I am, if there was gonna be another grappler in Super it should've gone to Alex. If there's enough fan demand, I'm sure we'll see more characters return to the franchise eventually, though.

Meh, I think the storyline and character design in SF universe is pretty messed up right now. They should just make a new fighting game with SF mechanics but completely redesign creative.

While R.Mika was the first female wrestler I think Elena would have a better chance because she uses Caporia which is not incorporated into any other street Fighter games (And yes I know about the Blanka/caporia fighting style thing, it don't count cuz it's not authentic). R.Mika is awsome but I would have went with Elena too.
I hope everyone here sees how hard it is to get a certian character in a game, you can't please them all and I don't want this looking like MvC2 where like 25% of the freakin roster is actually competitive worthy.

Well Anyway, I hope that for the Super Street Fighter IV Turbo thingy they put at least; R. Mika, Elena, Karin and maybe someone from the SFIII series (seriously, more SFIII stuff is never a bad thing).
But with the huge roster that we already have, I'm satisfied by now.
@irrenmann; You're talking about story elements in SFIV? The game that has some nondescript cheap clone final boss (/yawn) and a story that can be summed up using crayons on a napkin? Gameplay is *far* more important, and no one else has even commented on my post... In fact, all other comments are of the ilk "AHHHHHHHH!!! Imagine her Rainbow Hip Rush in HD!!!!", "I mean beside her breast", etc. I imagine (hope!) that one of the main reasons she wasn't included in SFIV was because women would be offended, and thus alienated from the game, due to her design! She grabs her ass during two of her special moves in SFA3 and has hearts on her nipples... It's quite obvious why she was put in the game, and I think she was a mistake by Capcom in SFA3, and one I sincerely hope they won't make again!
@SirHonor; Calling most female characters a sex symbol is just reflective of the sad state of affairs... And no, I'm not particularly interested in Elena's jiggle physics! She is the only character to use all kick moves (although maybe Juri is now the second?), and that gives her a very unique style of play, she is the only African character in the whole of the Street Fighter (which is a very sad state of affairs, new African fighters would also be *very* welcome addition, I don't know why they wasted two new slots on American characters in SFIV, but Korean and Turkish for SSFIV was a very good choice), and she also has the only healing super in the entire series.
@codename_yun; No one cared about Elena because she wasn't top tier... But she has good design and potential, which would hopefully be realised in an iteration of SFIV (just like many other characters now "feel right").
Overall, I think Elena's gameplay is much more interesting than Mika's, especially as we have Fuerte in IV (yes, I know that's a bit of a Guile/Dee Jay comment, but still, there is some similarities there, as with Elena and other characters, there isn't)... And on top of that R. Mika is just cheap exploitation of women, whereas Elena is a good strong role model... A sharp contrast between the two!
PS. @Darkness; Hugo is from Germany, so Capcom already have that base covered! :)
Wow. This is my first time posting on this site and I must say, all the R. Mika hate is really surprising. What's wrong with having a little sex appeal in a fighting game?
Answer: Nothing at all.
And anyone who thinks Elena has no sex appeal or wasn't designed to be 'sexy' has to either be blind or confused. She's the one female character in the whole series with the LEAST amount of clothing!
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Elena's character design, but I also LOVE R. Mika's. Mika's character IMO is quintessential Street Fighter. Yes, she's a bit silly, but she has spunk--and LOTS of it, she doesn't back down from a fight, and she's willing to risk it all for victory (tenets that even Ryu would respect). Her fighting/wrestling style illustrates all of these very well without sacrificing any of her femininity. Now if she ever made it into the world of SFIV, of course she would need to be tweaked in order to fit in well with the other cast (just like everyone else), but--and forgive me for using this cliche--don't hate her 'cause she's SEXY! LOL!
L liked R. Mika on SFA3. Nice sexy character. I would rather crapcom put her on the game VS. Hakan. I would also liked if they put Elena on the game. What can I say, put a sexy female on the game and I'll main her, I don't care if she is F tier.

I would actually like to see Q or Necro in future SSFIV DLC. I know there is very little chance of that due to popularity reasons but i feel they would make a pretty good addition to the game
I find it ridiculously hard to believe that there's this much hate for a character like Mika, but people enjoy the fact that characters like Dan or Sakura are in the game? Dan is a joke based on making fun of the AoF guys, a joke that most people don't even know about or care about, and his moves are all cloned off of another character. And, Sakura is a character I don't understand at all. She's only a copy of another character in the game, one that already has many copies(Ryu). Why she doesn't wear a karate gi like the rest of the clones is beyond me. My point is this. I've seen people make some comments about Mika's character design being uninspired, but seem to think that Dan and Sakura are magnificently original designs, which, when looking at this debate objectively, makes no sense to even say. Mika played differently from Zangief, and had many unique moves, thus making her a unique design. I think either her, Elena or Karin would make great additions based off of uniqueness of design, though admittedly, I am more of a fan of Mika than the other two. I personally just think the Alpha series had the most interesting designs from Capcom's SF series.
So far as not liking her due to her being thick, well, I don't know too much of what to say, to be honest. I mean, it wouldn't make sense for her to be skinny and small, due to her being a professional wrestler. And, while I am a huge fan of voluptuous women, that's not the main reason i want her in the game. I mean, no one is hating on Sakura because she's a little girl not working with anything, haha. Aesthetically aside from her body, she would be amazing to watch in action if her wrestling ring were incorporated. Plus, her humorous personality and play style fits SF4 very well, as it tends to lean towards the goofy side of things a little bit.
The final point is that if any female is insulted or offended by Mika being voluptuous or grabbing her butt on a couple of moves, then they really need to make themselves not so emotionally attached to the actions of the character. It's a video game character, not a world representation on how all women act in real life. Every black person Capcom has ever put in a game, with the exception of Dudley (I guess), has been a ridiculously stupid stereotype depicting that black people only care about dancing, money, and are incredibly stupid. But, to be honest, it's never bothered me a whole lot because I know that I don't act anything like that. Well, I guess I'm done with my rant now. Mika, Karin, and Elena for DLC. Go Capcom. gogogogo.

Rolento's alternate costume could be this used by D.Dark with night vision. In fact, rod normal attacks should have a longer range because his specials have so low priority.
