The Japanese Super Street Fighter 4 developer blog focusing on how Hakan was created has been translated by Azrael.Last week, the intense qualifiers finally came to an end, and now all that's left is the National Tournament on April 4th! Everyone, thank you very much for all of your efforts! The National Tournament is sure to be an intense battle, the final chapter in an ever-unfolding drama. We can't help but to anxiously look forward to it!
I hope everyone is doing well. This is Tsukamoto.
The new character has finally been announced! I've been eagerly awaiting this day. Today, we'll be talking about Hakan's moves and functionality with director Okada and the man-in-charge, Sano.
First, tell us the details about how Hakan came to be.
Sano:
When development of Super Street Fighter 4 first started, we'd decided on 2 new characters. Then, the development team figured having 1 female and 1 male would be the best balance, and fairly quickly we decided that the female would take on the lead role. But it took quite a while to figure out the male's concept. Of course, the guy we're talking about here is Hakan.
Tsukamoto:
Since we moved ahead with our character considerations from Juri, we'd thought "a Korean taekwondo fighter with a dark image... would that be a guy character?!". We worried a lot about their home country as well as their fighting style.
Okada:
We wanted to give Hakan a fresh new fighting style, so we checked out various fighting styles from around the world, and what eventually caught our eye was Yagli gures. It was also a bonus that this fighting style is from Turkey. Street Fighter is all about fighters coming together from all over the world, right? So this time, we wanted to spotlight an area we hadn't featured before. So for that, Turkey is good.
What kind of sport is Yagli gures?
I personally don't really like Hakan's style. He just seems like they took a flimsy concept and went with it instead of reevaluating how solid it actually was. Then again, I'll give him the benefit of a doubt.
Hakan seems like a great edition to this game. Playing a really good hakan player is really going to give me a big headache haha
ithink hakans going to have really sick mind games pressure etc... basically have a solid move list hopefully he has good way of getting into his ultras without having too much off a problem
It seems like there will be a lot of hidden depth to this character. He's comical by design but I get the impression that they really want us to take him seriously. If nothing else, he looks like he'll be fun to play once you get a decent grip on things and that works for me.
Oh great, this guy's should be charged for sexual harassment (second ultra)
Seems like a lot of his stuff can easily be crouch blocked and punished.
sounds like they were just lazy...
there are plenty of other fighting styles out there that are just as unique/interesting and don't look stupid...
regardless of how good he'll be, Hakan's design is the corniest concept for a SF character, right next to T-hawk...
@ 14
Don't forget El Fuerte he is just a stupid character and i hate "mucha lucha" type characters.
Thinking about dropping blanka for Hakan. :) or just making him my 2nd. Looks like my kind of character though :)
@#19 Glad to see some one is looking at the character design and see how use less he is.
They way Daigo plays and most Ryu/Sagat/Akuma/Seth & Sim player's play Hakan will have less than an 80% chance to get in for his damage. Also EX Fireball/Tiger shot are really fast so that stops you form oiling up, if you try to jump in it will be shor-u or tiger uppercut or LK-MK with Sim and lets not for get Seth jump back HP. Think about that before you all play Hakan.
im not trying to pull a seth and tell everyone to wait for the game, but I do think that we will have to see how the pace of ssf4 will be compared to sf4.
He seems to have a few options against fireballs, so I dont think it will be TOO bad, but we will see.
Hakan can slide under fireballs and duck under them. Hakan having a short jump both increases the chance he will be hit and makes it so a well timed jump will hit the ground quicker giving more safe jumps. Then if you have EX, EX oil makes fireballs pass through.
This easily makes him better at getting around fireballs than Zangief who has every once in a while shown amazing strength even in tournaments. Let's not forget when Wong's team got rolled by that Zangief in Japan.
I'm not saying Hakan will be the greatest, but I am also not saying anyone who throws fireballs gets wins for free. Saying he has good tools that need to be used well shows intelligence and the belief that I don't know exactly how every match will play out in a game I have never played. Try it sometime.
@16
though you didn't pose me this question I feel
-Dambe,Kuta: two types of African boxing that involve one hand to be extended in an open palm to block and grab the opponent and the other to remain in a fist the whole fight and you can use kicks as long as it knocks out(or in rare cases kills them).
-Kalaripayat:Indian style that comes in there variations depending on region of India
-Silat:Indonesia Martial arts
-Kajukenbo:A wide mix of martial arts
-Baton Francais: French stick fighting
-Combat 56: In fighting style from Poland
-Svebor:Siberian based martial arts that's kinda like cody's fight style but more focused
-KFM: hybrid martial arts from Spain that was featured in batman's fighting style in batman beings and the dark knight
-Yawara-Jitsu:one of the most versatile styles known to the world
-Defendu:AKA CQB a English based martial art
-Pankration:Extensive system of strikes and grapples
-Krav Maga& Kapap: Israel's contribution to the world of Martial arts
-Lama or Lama Pei:The only martial arts who origins are in Tibet
That's just the real ones fictional ones that Capcom could probably use without much legal problems:
-Omnite: the style the main character in logan's run uses
-Panzer Kunst:Battle Angel Alita
see there's alot of other styles capcom could have used but to get the SF2 feel they got by making Hakan i can only really see Oil wrestling working as weird and wacky as they made it.
@27
We have a stretchy indian wizard who breathes fire and says this is all the result of years of practicing Yoga of all things, and a green retard who learned to fight in the jungle and somehow gained electric powers and you're going to argue that oil wrestling is too weird?
Hakan was a great move, SF4 features many realistic fighting styles and only two crazy unrealistic fighting styles. Stop your whining we were way overdue for a character like him.
And are you seriously suggesting they include a fighting style from a manga? get out.
omg tired of hearing about Hakan this and Hakan that. This is always more and more news and videos about him. I want more info on changes to what they did to the cast in SFIV. But no we get this "part of the fun is finding out for yourself". screw you capcom and ps that dojo pack is balls. We want what the jp are getting.
@30 Example of irony:
SF Fan: I wanna see the list of changes for every old characters that you guys can compile for me NAO!!!
Capcom: Alright. If you insist.......***upload info to the net***
SF Fan: Ah man, I wish I never read them. F@#&k you, Capcom! I won't buy your mother f'kin game comes April >:(
OMG! i hate so much HAKAN, i ll destroy every hakan online player, i ll throw hadokens lik hell and when he jump on me SHORYUKEN!!! i ll make understand the players that hes a sh1t character, i actually play agressive but whit this sh1T i ll make an exception. They should put another character whit a better fightstyle
I get the feeling his worst matchups will be against characters who can Teleport. Imagine trying to get away to do your oil shower then have seth/dhalsim teleport behind you for a damaging combo.
@28 Brightslap
when did I say "too weird"? I said "BUT to get the SF2 feel they got by making Hakan I CAN only really see Oil wrestling working as weird and wacky as they made it." meaning it's the RIGHT KIND OF WEIRD read first dumb ass
and as for Alita if your a fan you'd know it was also shown in the animated featured
@36
"see there's alot of other styles capcom could have used but to get the SF2 feel they got by making Hakan i can only really see Oil wrestling working as weird and wacky as they made it."
Maybe you should learn how to better structure your sentences because this heap made little sense. All I got from you was "I don't like oil wrestling, capcom made a mistake here."
I shouldn't have to bring a moron translator to tell me you implied it was the "Right Kind of Weird"
I'll learn to chill if you learn to grammar. <hehe
"Maybe you should learn how to better structure your sentences because this heap made little sense."
"I'll learn to chill if you learn to grammar."
You should learn some too, because I can point out something wrong with those statements...
You assumed something wrong, if you want me to repeat what I said using grammar(not that I even care to use it most of the time when talking about something as trivial as choices the video games creators have already solidify in their product). Here:
"As listed above there are styles of martial arts that Capcom could have used to create an interesting character. However I feel Hakan and his style of oil wrestling gives me the nostalgia of looking at the unnatural characters in the original street fighter 2. Where if Hakan was created then, it seems like he would have fit in."
But you are right I don't like Hakan, mainly cause all of his moves beside oiling up, his kick grab and his ultras and super, are simply moves taken from other characters. His oil slide is Blanka's DF feirce made into a special that can be followed by a belly flop attack much like Honda's or Fuerte's splash. Oil Rocket is Zangief's Pile driver, now it throws the other fighter away from you. Guard position is equal to Blanks coward crouch with much of the same properties. I wish they did more with the character, but I am willing to support Capcom and play this character.
Most of you complaining must not have half a brain and are shoto scrubs who never had any idea how to play SF4 in the first place but got bought into the SSF4 hype. No worries, when the good players face you on SSF4 and you get your a$$ handed to you, you'll probably stop playing and more importantly stop bitching and realize how pathetic your comments were.
There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with Hakan. I actually love the fact that he is a hybrid wrestler, and his character design is great, if not, fitting into the SF roster.
Learn to accept or gtfo.
"There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with Hakan. I actually love the fact that he is a hybrid wrestler, and his character design is great, if not, fitting into the SF roster.
Learn to accept or gtfo." shows how much of an idiot you are I've pointed out what's wrong with Hakan but also said I've accepted him no matter what....so I can hate and still accept
@43
Opinions are facts now I take it? Your stupidity is making me nauseous.
What I want to know is: Can you FADC out of an Oil shower?
@44
The things I pointed out about Hakan are true ask anyone. the fact capcom has dropped the ball when it comes to the games I mentioned in the ways I mention are true especially about EX and megaman 3-8 when it comes to reviews and commercially(how much money it makes) along with among the fans views. the debate on RE 4 and 5 is still out. so what did i state as fact that wasn't?
@46
"There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with Hakan" idiotic statement since that's an opinion that you want to express as fact
"Most of you complaining must not have half a brain and are shoto scrubs who never had any idea how to play SF4 in the first place but got bought into the SSF4 hype." those are idiotic statement seeing as you have no proof you haven't played every single person who falls into the category you put them in.
Just to add on to that "accept or gtfo." That right there is the most idiotic statement ever. Simply because everyone has a right to their own opinion and while you have the right to express it much as you did yours right then and there. However, you are also speaking against others who have just as much right to talk about the product as you do on this site or any other site not owned by you or controlled by you. You act like saying that will get everyone you feel doesn't accept your way should leave the site forever. That right there shows how your intelligence level in general is low.
@ Ex_Ein
"Accept or gtfo" means what it means because there is no other option but to accept the fact that Hakan is staying the way he is. Their not going to change his play style this late in the game. That should be clearly obvious to you.
Thanks for quoting all of my statements, because they weren't statements, they were opinions. Note that I said "Most of you complaining must not..", that doesn't make it a fact, that is just what I believe.
Furthermore by quoting as much comments as possible in an attempt to make yourself look smarter, you've not only proved to us that you're an idiot, but a stubborn idiot. You wanna hear the most idiotic statements ever? It comes from your posts.
@JinZO
Statemet:"a message that is stated or declared; a communication (oral or written) setting forth particulars >or< facts etc; "according to his statement he was ...""
you didn't present it as your view, you presented as fact or something that can be interrupted(correctly or incorrectly) as fact
No cause you never said that you only said "Accept or gtfo" as in "Hakan's here to stay". You presented it as "Oh your whiny little bitches need to stop complaining cause you're all no talent scrubs or gtfo" cause you never mentioned Hakan once beside to say something there's nothing wrong with him, which is of course untrue.
The funny thing is you keep calling my post or more directly me idiotic but you present no examples. Quoting you is me showing what you said and directly replying to that thing and how I feel on it instead of trying to reply to your post as a whole because not everything you say in it is untrue.
interpreted* sorry messed up on that one cause I went through spell check too fast
and how dose quoting show stupidity? unless I quoted you word for word without original thought. which when it came to you claiming there to be nothing wrong with Hakan I replied with that is an idiotic statement cause I had just pointed out that half the character is made out of other characters movesets, with very little beside the oil to call his own.
when it came to you claiming most people complaining are shoto scrubs. it was an idiotic statement that didn't show it as opinion and even if it was it was very unfounded one seeing as you probably(that expresses opinion not fact), haven't played the people you speak of online or in person.
I put forth though with facts behind them. you put forth soley insults with no facts or actual ground for even most of you claim t be just an opinion
Thanks for the translation. Looking forward to him.
Sano recommends using Oil Combination Hold on Cammy.
That's just...all kinds of wrong...
Where does the Turkish sytle wrestling come into to play at? Hakan does not resemble the oil style wrestling, where the resemblace. He just has baby oil that he pours on himself and that makes him a oil wrestler now? LMAO.... Retarded, he looks deadly though with a lot of options but I guess they had to compensate for the retarded character concept.
He does not do turkish oil wrestling his moves are something else. Its all about money with Capcom they are just doing this for these new gen. of kids. They would have never put this in the game back then but times have changed and the audience they are trying to get has changed. Lets get back to the roots. People who like Hakan see his potential and they wanna give him a shot.
If you been playing SF since the beginning there's no way he fits in the game, I'm sorry but we have to be brutally honest for a min. and stop being so passive on characters capcom make. Look at SF back then and look at it now, nuff said. They are trying to draw in a different audience of people. Not saying its a bad thing(when you have cool looking characters) but old SF guys get disappointed because character concepts are not as good as what they use to be period.
@61 If that's the case, then Capcom wouldn't need a green monster, a hindu Stretch Armstrong, a karate guy who shoots unrealistic projectiles from his hands, a demon who also resembles that same karate guy but with a totally, unrealistic hairstyle..........................***rolls eyes***
Come on, man, don't be so hypocritical.
He'll just slide his way past all your fireballs! Even without the oil, the oil slide looks like a reliable counter to the fireball!
he looks like so much fun to play, that slid is gonna give me nightmares
