If you have a a Netflix account capable of using the Instant Watch feature, you can check out the Street Fighter movie with Jean-Claude Van Damme right now.

Although the movie is complete garbage, it's entertaining because you can see how badly it was destroyed by Hollywood.

Ripping on this film has become a bit of an art, so much so that the Destructoid guys did a Mystery Science Theater 3000 take on it. You'll need to grab the .mp3 (right click to Save Link as), start playing it and try your best to sync it up with the movie. The instructions to do so get underway around 7 minutes 30 seconds into the .mp3 file.

The D-Toid guys did a really good job with this and some of the commentary is laugh out loud funny.

Note: The Netflix version is the extended cut or some such, so you'll have to keep pausing the audio track to keep things in line.

Also, here's an image inspired by all this madness.

Never quite understood why Balrog was a good guy and Dee Jay was a baddie, maybe they mixed up the black guys?

I love the part when Bison mentions Satan towards the end.

or am I... imagining that?

at any rate, Bison dollars.

The tag line should be: "You'd be surprised how low the bar can go."

After seeing the Legend of Chun-Li, I had to take back all of the bad things I said about the 1994 movie. At least the 94 version was entertaing, and attempted to keep the characters in their costumes at least. I would watch this movie over Twilight any day.

Posted by Nice on March 17, 2010 at 9:22 p.m. #14

Movie was so bad it was good.

Posted by Bison on March 17, 2010 at 9:59 p.m. #15

LOL, this movie was not that bad. It's a classic to me, far better than the new movie that just came out.

Posted by Ex_Ein on March 17, 2010 at 10:10 p.m. #16

Raul and DeeJay were the only good parts of that movie

i would watch the original SF movie any day of week over the legend of chun li or any other fighting game live action movie.

Van Dammes SF is my favorite video game movie. second might be Mortal Kombat, the first one.

yeah, MK (part I) was probably the best game/movie done in my opinion. Loved Shang Tsung and Kano; the actors nailed them.....especially Kano.

"Hello baby..........................did you miss me?"

I really don't know about calling the SF movie "complete garbage". It's campy as hell, sure, and quite obviously unfaithful to what little SF canon existed at the time (which I don't really consider a knock against it, it's not like we're desecrating Hamlet here or anything), but it's quite obviously made with a fair amount of love. The actors all seem to be having fun, the sets are total GENIUS (the Shadaloo locker room and the Bison lounge are particularly great), and the movie is very much aware of how silly it is and it doesn't give a s**t. And of course we all respect how genius Raul Julia's Bison was. Thanks to him, for us of the Bison-playing persuasion, it will ALWAYS be Tuesday.

Truly one of the "best" bad movies I've ever watched, every time I rewatch it I actually respect it a little more. That's the mark of a truly "great" bad film.

This movie was Awesome back then! I was like 9 years old lol... loved it! :D

looking back, sure it has some flaws... but it was 1994, we couldn`t ask for more at that time... besides, it didn`t flop, it made some money for capcom so they could continue dishing out more SF-games...

Posted by zUkUu on March 18, 2010 at 11:46 a.m. #30

The movie is pure win, but the trash these guys talk in the audio comment isn't funny at all.

Posted by zombi_ryu on March 18, 2010 at 1 p.m. #31

A timeless classic indeed.

Side note: does anybody know where I can find a picture of the full portrait of Bison on the horse?

How bout the part when Zangief and Honda (i think it was them 2) where fighting on that mini city and godzilla noises where playing. Lol This is one of those movies that is so bad it's amazing!

Posted by Shantotto on March 18, 2010 at 2:51 p.m. #35

Also notice how Chun Li is a news reporter in this movie, but in Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike, one of Chun-Li's win quotes is: "Hey, leave me alone! I'm a fighter, not a news reporter!" lol

It's so sad that the Bison actor(Raul Julia) died around the time this movie was made, wanting to play as that certain character/role so he can spend more time with his children who grew up playing the Street Fighter 2 franchise..
