Team Xbox posted a new preview of Super Street Fighter 4. This recaps a lot of what you've heard previously, but the most interesting bit comes at the end of the article when Ono talks about why Rolento wasn't included in the game. It states:
I had one more question for Ono: why no Rolento? For those in the dark, Rolento was originally a character in Final Fight that made his first Street Fighter appearance in Street Fighter Alpha 2. Given the appearance of a number of lesser known Street Fighter III characters, why didn't the unconventional paramilitary leader make an appearance as well?
This was actually the most animated Ono was during our interview. “Rolento is actually my favorite character! I wanted to include R. Mika and Rolento in Super Street Fighter IV, and they were on the list,” he explains, “but the director kept cutting them! I think he was doing it to spite me. I even tried to get them into the backgrounds of one of the stages, but no luck.”
Also, Richard Li posted a write up on 1Up.com about Hakan — if you're not tired of hearing about him by now. Richard isn't your average gaming journalist writing about Street Fighter, as he's competed and had several solid showings at big tournaments, so this guy knows his stuff.

Personally never cared much for Rolento, but I suppose he would have made a unique addition.
R. Mika, though, would've been pretty interesting, though wrestling is probably over-represented in fighting games.

Rolento would have made a good kinda rival to Abel both coming from a paramilitary background.
Mika would have benn good since El Fuerte is a fan
Karin would have been a good rivalry for Sakura

With the exception of Juri and Hakan, I would happily replace any of the other new chars for Rolento and Mika.

Karin is my main in A3 and tbh she's pretty good but she doesn't have alot of air solutions..
But I guess design-wise she isn't great :P.
As for R.mika,I've never seen anyone use her in A3 but I've had some matches against Rolento's.
As for SF3 characters,I would put (going by 3): Alex, Q and either Oro or Hugo.
But what I'm wondering is : Do the people that want character A in,also use him or her?

a good idea would of been to put characters in the way they did in Capcom vs SNK 2. alot of diffrent characters in the backround. its telling fans that the producers still remember the characters of the past and putting them in the backround is like "honerable mention". kinda like in the final fight stage with Hugo and Haggar in the background. i wounder if anyone else is in the new stages as well???

i wonder if anyone asked him about karin. guess not cause it would probably be on here. we heard about elena, rolento, and mika. after them, i see alot of karins, so im sure shes on their list also. i just wanna know why sakura didnt get her real rival.

Well dang. Rolento, R. Mika, Alex and Elena were my top 4 that I really wanted to show up in SF4. Makes me a little upset to know that 3 of them almost were. Well, hopefully once Super Street Fighter 4 Turbo comes out they will add them

Man, this breaks my heart. Rolento was my most wanted character, and I along with him, R. Mika was my most wanted Alpha character that didn't make the cut. To echo the above posters, hopefully they'll release one last version of SF4 to satisfy everyone.

R. Mika is just eye candy for pre-pubescent boys... Adding her to SFIV would ruin it... Go back to playing Tomb Raider and swinging the camera around to see Lara at "risqué" angles if those are the sort of games you guys like playing! All of the characters that were created from scratch for Alpha 3 were rubbish, although Juni and Juli were worse than Mika, but not by much!
Rolento and Elena being left out is disappointing, especially as developers have now stated that they were both considered! But, as has been mentioned before, game balance is much more important than roster size... The characters they have added so far are all quality, except maybe T. Hawk (did we *really* need him? Really?) and Sakura (yet another shoto clone, /yawn).
Thank god no-one has mentioned the EX characters yet mind you! EX was good for what it was, at the time, but leave the EX characters in their own universe please! Adding any other character from Final Fight, Street Fighter, Street Fighter Alpha 2 or Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is all good by me and I'm sure a lot of other players also (except maybe Sean and Remy... Surprised there haven't been more requests for Yun actually!)

Mika is a fast grabber. There's El Fuerte for that.
Charlie Nash and Remy are too similar to Guile.
Yun & Yang fight like Rufus & Fei Long, and there's no place for another big guy like Hugo, having allready Gief, Hawk and Hakan.
Joe, Retsu and other SF1 characters are way too dead for the most part of players, so there's no reason for Capcom to put them in (although I would like it, too)
But I see Elena, Rolento, Urien and Karin with good chances, should they add new chars in the future. They play diferent and have a huge fan base.
Btw, EX characters can't appear. None of them. The EX games were produced by Arika, therefore those chars are property of Arika and cannont be freely used by Capcom. However, since they are SF characters, they cannont be freely used by Arika, either. They're suck on mess of copyrights, so makes little sense Capcom would go trough all that if there's still so much capcom-only characters avaiable.

You just hate Alpha 3 for some reason,tho I also hate V-ism :P.
Both Cody and Karin (both introduced in A3) are pretty good characters and have an interesting fighting style.
So I don't see what's wrong with them but I agree with your point about R.Mika.
And T.hawk is also a quality character lol,I guess you haven't come across a solid T.Hawk player on HDR?
T.Hawk is a beast.
Why mention Sakura but not Dan(since they're both shoto-clones)?
And talking about crappy designs..Yun!
The guy that they tried so hard to make him look cool(it's on the same level as the schoolgirls honestly).

We are all starting to scrap the bottom of the barrel here. forget about putting in the rest of the old characters, I want more new ones!
New character fighting style ideas:
Drunken Kung fu
Brazilian Ju-Jitsu
Israeli Krav maga,
Russian sambo
MMA
Anything unique. Capcom could take any of these styles and put their own spin on it like they always do.
And less El Fuerte/Rufus Looney Tunes joke type characters please. This is not a knock on those characters, but they are silly and you know it.

I have a love/hate relationship with Alpha 3, and a pure love relationship with Alpha 2... Alpha 3 was too much, it watered down the classic Alpha 2 with a lot of throwaway characters, and made it overly complex with all the isms which made it imbalanced... By Capcoms own admission, it was this higher barrier of entry for new players that meant it was such a long time before SFIV, which makes me hate it more.
I wasn't actually including Cody or Karin in my comment "All of the characters that were created from scratch for Alpha 3", as Cody was originally in Final Fight, and Karin was in a manga... I'm not a personal fan of Karin, but I know people are... To each their own!
No, I've never come across a good T.Hawk player, maybe I just don't get him! Fair enough if I've missed the point of T.Hawk :)
I love Dan! Especially when I switch up online to beat a Ryu with him... Not saying I can beat any Ryu player with him, but I think playing Ryu or Sagat in the current iteration of SFIV is a little boring, hopefully SSFIV will change that with their nerfs!
I'm not a personal Yun fan, I was just commenting on the fact that I was surprised there wasn't more people asking for him in SFIV, as he's big in SFIII... I agree that Yun and Yangs character designs aren't the best!
And Elena is one of the most unique characters in the whole SF cannon, I'd hardly say she is purely eye candy, someone correct me if I am wrong, but;
1) The only character to come from Africa (common Capcom!)
2) The only character to have no punches (the anti-Rog)
3) The only character to have a healing super
She would add a lot of flavour to the game! R. Mika... Wouldn't!

Tho her costume could be a little less revealing XD.
