The Wake Up Shoryuken team had a few guests on this evening to discuss what changes they found in Super Street Fighter 4's final build.• Focus Attacks are faster, you have to be more aware of them now or you'll eat a combo.
• It seems like Super moves across the board do more damage.
• Sagat has 1,000 health now, down from 1,100.
• Zangief has 1,100 health, which is down from 1,200. Hit box on the Lariat got moved up a bit so it's easier to duck under.
• Ken's Hard Dragon Punch has more invincibility.
• Abel's new Ultra is really good. It's a dashing grab which has one hit of Super Armor. You can also charge his Ultra up by holding the buttons, which keeps him in place for a moment.
• Juri can store multiple fireballs using each of her kick buttons and it may be possible to have multiple projectiles on the screen at one time.
• Cammy's Spiral Arrow (Cannon Drill) seems more like it was in Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix. Not exactly as good, but safer on block.
• Gouken's Ultra 2 (Denjin Hadouken) when fully charged is still blockable, but it does 500 stun damage if blocked or if it connects.
• Sakura can combo into her Ultra 2 without using any meter.
• Dee Jay's Machine Gun Punch is a charge move now and you no longer have to mash punches after the fact. People say he's a better version of Guile.
• T. Hawk's Condor Spire seems to be a really good tool for getting inside. Hawk Dive doesn't travel as far forward, so it doesn't seem as useful as before.
• Cody's Zonk Knuckle has different versions depending on the button you hold. Takes about 4 seconds to charge it up. Cody can Focus Attack Dash Cancel off of almost every move he has.

T.Hawk should have a projectile and a faster walking speed, and better anti airs, and more health, and should be able to fadc into both ultra AAAAANNDDD should be able to OIL UP.

I really badly want someone to mess with Bison for REAL and find out if he can combo into his ultra. Either one.
The ONLY THING that Bison needs is the ability to land his ultra. Most people I talk to feel that his c.hp needs to launch, which would allow him to land either ultra. It wouldn't be imbalanced. It'd be just like Abel and it'd make Bison a really good character.

Ken wasn't exactly high tier in the last iteration, so it'll be nice to see his signature flaming SRK be a little more effective. It'll give nubs a bit more of a shot I guess too :-D which is fine with me.
I don't think Zangief's life should've been nerfed much. Maybe 1150, at worst. A good player can usually outmaneuever a good Zangief.
I'm still hoping Guile will kick ass when all is said and done, but I'm glad to hear Rose is a contender (hypothetically) at least.
Haven't heard much about Dee Jay or T-Hawk since they were first announced, so it's nice to see something about them.

More invincibility for Ken's Hard DP? What made them do that? Not once have I ever knocked a Ken out of it. I didn't even know it was possible.
I think other characters like Bison, Honda, etc. need invincibility on a move more then Ken does. Oh well, those million Ken's you see online will only use Hard DP (or EX) now.

I am willing to bet T Hawk has the highest stamina out of all SF characters, Hakan prob the same as Rufus. I hope there's more to Dee Jay then just being a better Guile, I'd like to have a lot more offensive capabilities than Guile has, but who knows... Hakan, though, is definitely in my line-up for mains, E. Honda normals + oil + more tools than E. Honda = Win.

lol if you played ken you would know his fierce srk is complete garbage as an anti air, no one uses it they have to rely on the medium srk which is slower and if done deep and only hits once then the second hit whiffs leaving you wide open to get punished. looks like they fixed it to match ryus, which is also retarded cause ken always had the better srk by story and by past games.

I dont like that comment on deejay. Hes NOT supposed to be a better verison of guile. In turbo he had nice combos, great normals and was overall more offensive then guile. I really hope niether of them suck. I love deejay in turbo and to see him come to 4 and suck would just be disappointing, and guile, well. Play hyper fighting or even hdr and then play him in sf4. Its very depressing.

I don't like how they nerfed Gief. As if the Lariat wasn't easy enough to punish. Plus, he's huge so he deserves that 1200 health!
I am pleased with Deejay's machine gun punch being a charge move again, I am never confident with mash attacks.

no they arent as different as ken and ryu. ken and ryu are both twin shotokans that are similar through every aspect. they have the SAME specials, just spiced up differently. their normal game is very similar, almost identical in functionality. (im talking about style only)
no, my friend. thats not the right analogy. Guile and Deejay are as similar as sagat and ryu. that is the right analogy. Sagat and ryu have similar specials, but not the same ones (shuryuken and tiger uppercut and the hadouken and tiger shot). same with deejay and guile.
they're normals - obviously different for sagat and ryu
same with guile and deejay - they also have very different normals. Sorry deejay does not have moves like the rolling sabat, bazooka knee taht are essential to guile's zoning strategy. his normals in generals arent as fast and arent supposed to be as strong as guiles.
all deejay and guile mostly share are very similar specials. just like ryu and sagat. but sagat would not be a viable replacement for the shotos.

btw, usually with dee jay you had to mash or piano punches after the input of machine gun punch to increase the amount of hits from 1-4, doing massive amounts of damage. they took out the mashing afterwards, but hopefully the damage is still really good. anybody have any input on this?

I don't think the changes to ryu will affect skilled ryu players. As someone said, trade to ultra is sloppy playing, and doing lesser damage isn't that big a deal since damage has never been ryu's forte.
I'm with the rest of the guys here that it sucks guile once again gets the shaft
I'm pretty interested in hearing more about the faster focus attack as it sounds like it could be the most significant tweak.. If it is really fast, it could favor more aggressiveness and change the dynamics of the entire game.

@47 aparently you never played gief, or against sagat or ryu
you gonna be forced to jump in most of the time, crouch forward ryu has destroys gief counter poke that is standing forward, usually versus ryu you trade his shoryuken and get a fireball as a juggle (thank god they fixed the ultra thing now it might be 5/5)but sagat you take 400 damage if you are stupid to jump in, no crouch forward sweep lariat perfectly timed normal green hands (lulz) will make you get near to him, in the end you have to go for a trade in sometimes, and now he can't because he die faster, same hp as balrog...roflcopter give gief some awesome pokes like rog have then, standing strong don't work against those chars that press down backwards the whole day

Guile fans- remember S-Kill said that we would all prefer the SSF4 versions of our favourite characters. Also when will people realize that you can never really know the full changes to a character until you actually play the game. I ve read comments from some srk posters who claim to have tested the game and they claim guiles flash kick and sonic boom have higher damage so who knows.
I remember right before the release of SF4 people were crying bout how ryu was crap compared to ken etc etc.
You can only judge for yourself when you get the game.
@54- they haven't released any rufus info yet, will u wait till they release info or till you get the game before jumping into conclusions.

So, apart from Focus Attacks being faster, any other changes to them? The infamous Rumour List did vaguely hint at something new in that direction. I was secretly hoping for some quite big changes to the focus attack system, and I actually expected, what with the big community love for the parry system, that focus attacks would become more "parry-like". Of course, not being a game designer I wouldn't know where to begin trying to achieve this, but there is definitely room for expansion on the basic theme of focus attacking.
Perhaps we'll see these changes in the third iteration ;)

As a Gief player, I agree with the changes they gave to him. The health nerf kinda saddens me, but I can live with it. I'll be moving on to Cody and Dudley and put Gief and Viper as my secondaries.
I heard that Ken's Ultra I will connect into it's full animation after a FADC now. That would be quite the treat to Ken fans considering his second ultra sounds bummed.

Also, Zangief is always gonna be screwed against Seth, this just makes him not so ridiculous against the 20+ (exaggeration, whatever) characters that have a hard time with him.
More invincibility on Ken's HP? Great, from what I could tell it had none (maybe a tiny bit but I never read into the frame data).
Anyway, like I said before, good changes. It's just unfortunate how freaking retarded the other list of changes in...seriously, what the **** was Capcom thinking with some of them? Our fan-feedback must have got lost in translation or something because there's absolutely no excuse for taking away Gen's primary weapon - and nerfing is only real wakeup option.

All you gief player need to do is practice against these characters and find a strategy to corner them. Like this they will have less chances of doing their projectile or they will take hit from the lariat. His 2nd ultra will stop most of the people trying to do jump-ins. Don't want to get hit by a shoryuken ? stop jumping randomly at the opponent!(specially if he's crouching!) he can also dash! (very slow but hey you chose zangief so deal with it)
and let's not forget there's a lot of other facts implied in the game: the game feels faster / focus attack are also faster

And against seth....blame it on the scrubs that don't know how to use him and stay in their corner only doing jumping hard punch (which can still be punished by his 2nd ultra!)...you can always instant stun him with the headbutt tho...just need patience ;)

How are people complaining about stuff they don't even know yet. I'm willing to bet rufus got his HP nerfed. Faster focus seems nice. Added with faster gameplay means more intense fights. Also may seen more like a parry if played aggressive. Can't wait.

Gief didn't need a life nerf but he did need a higher Lariat hit box. The match up was just ridiculous for certain fights like Abel and Rog because of that.
Sagat didn't really need a nerf except for his towards light kick which should be removed from the game because the kara cancel into his moves gave him way too much range. Trade Ultras are being fixed for almost every character so the point is moot.
Faster Focuses are gonna suck for Rog.
Ken's Hard Shoryuken having more invincibility is only gonna be worthwhile if it can be used for an anti-air because it's always gonna be beaten by Tiger Uppercut.
Why did the nerf Cammy's uppercut? Seriously?
Lets hope Gouken's Ultra 2 can be fully charged after a complete knockdown. Still gonna be weird since some characters have invincible wake up options like Ryu's ex Shoryuken.
Machine Gun punch better still do a lot of damage.
So far it feels like theoretically Rose, Sakura, Chun, and Dan got the largest buffs. I don't understand the meaning behind nerfs on Gen or Cammy.

Gief losing 100 health is gonna suck for sure. Gief is definitely dropping down some spots and some of his matchups are definitely gonna be harder.
Cammy gaining safer drills is really good. She now has a safe chip damage tool...which is what she needed.
Gouken got better by simply gaining his new ultra. That and his FA was already good...it's faster now? He just got a pretty good poke with it.
Good to hear T.Hawk's condor spire is a good approach tool.
SSFIV's gonna be interesting...top tier (excluding Akuma likely) will be all over the place, IMO.

Good to hear faster FA, even though it was known from the beginning it's %100+ confirmed with this final build. I can only assume the gameplay is faster with it and things will feel a lot more familiar to pre-SFIV incarnations come April the 26th.

read the mrwizard post, the kikoushou ultra gonna be really strong, if you dont hit since the begining of the ultra you still receive all the damage from the ultra, and can be juggle from ex kicks and backwrad kick(dont remember the name).

Just glad the rumor is that El Fuerte's normals are faster. His standing far roundhouse was perfect though IMO. Low jab needs to be faster as well as his standing close roundhouse. His standing far fierce is slow as hell, that needed a speed up too.

Chun-Li is said to be able to connect Ultra2 everywhere in the screen after EX-Lightning Legs and Up Kick Target, in spite of the fact that she was already able to do it with Ultra1 at corners. In fact, she has a two-circles Ultra2 move.

Changing gief's lariat was a good move. The best gief's don't abuse lariat anyway, it's too punishable. The only people whining about it are people who abuse it or depend on it. Time to pick up a real character. Get your money's worth. The only bad thing is that he drew in a lot of beginners desperate for a win. Not having an easy go to for cheap wins could turn off potential new sf players.

As a Guile mainer I'm a disappointed with all this. Some characters are just gonna be useless (Guile is shaping up to be the worst character from what we learn).
But at the same time, a good proportion of the cast is gonna be very competitive. So in the end, there's gonna be more diversity going on than in SFIV, which is very good.

I don't know what all you Guile players are complaining about.
Even if they did improve Guile, and made him the most amazing character in the game, all you guys would still do the whole round is double leg sweep followed by flash kick. So it doesn't even matter.

well I probably focus my attention on info about Guile, and it's mostly not too good. that's maybe why I perceive it that way. but if we base ourselves on the recent tier list (which is worth what it's worth), characters below Guile are Gen, who's definitely better, but even less people use him, Vega, who I guess is kinda in the same boat as Guile, and Dan, who's way better now with more useful projectiles and a good ultra.
I still win a lot with guile even if the character sucks, it doesn't prevent him from being one of the worst.

As a Chun Li player, all of what i've heard about her is fantastico, she's gonna be so much better, I can't wait, as for Juri, she's gonna be amazing too, and it's good to see that Cammy is a little safer on spiral arrow now, confused me about the cannon spike being nerfed though, and I agree with nerfing lariat for Zangief, but I do have to agree with the gief players on health, he should have stayed at 1200, i've tried using him and it's hard for him to get in on people, he does have a hard time, but oh well, we'll see what happens when it comes out! Kikoushou!!!!!

guile's needed changes were subtle.
- faster start up on normals
- flash kick hitbox changed
- higher stun rating
- better ultra
- more damage on normals
- same recovery on all sonic booms
His videos already show a damage increase (considering the way the meter works hasnt changed), and nothing logically could be more useless than Flash Explosion.
the rest of the changes a non-guile player would not notice. Let's wait and decide on our own when the game comes out before we freak. The Guile community has always been a tightknit one, we'll figure it out.

the problem with guile is that its so retarded easy to fix him. Fix flash kick and his normals(his low forward should come out as fast as ryus) and ur done. Dont even worry about comboing the ultra. With that guile will be able to play like hyper fighting. And thats all any real guile player could want.

Its a balanced game as soon as u take out the top 5 characters. Most of the cast is just a waste of time to play since someone else will do the same thing more effectively and alot easier(example, ken and ryu). Look at hdr, its still not perfectly balanced, but u see alot more of the cast used at tournament level(last evo u saw everyone used except t hawk and i think blanka)in sf4 its basicly the same maybe 6-8 characters and out of a full roster of 25 thats pretty dam said. Of course there always be weaker character in the game, but alot of the weaker characters in sf4 arent even worth useing.

The changes thus far are dissapointing, I was hoping for a lot more. The addition of over-powered turd strike characters is the only thing shaking up the tier list. This game will never be balanced unless everyone has a consistant way to combo into their ultras or if no one can. Doesn't matter how good the rest of your game play is in this street fighter series. Fei-long in sf4 would be top tier were he able to FADC into his full ultra.

Guile is going to be ALOT better in SSF4. It seems that instead of giving him outright retarded buffs, they just nerfed stupid things alot of his bad matches had(brainless SRK counter for everything,sagat footsies,ultra damage output,Some moves being far too safe) etc etc.
Guile will REALLY benefit from this, and we already know his normals got boosted. Ryu's srk seems to work alot more like guiles flashkick, in that you actually have to time it now. Rufus needs to work more for his wins like Guile, sagat dies faster like guile, zangief dies faster...
No guile player should be worried at all.

People complaining about Ken's fp DP have no idea what they are talking about. Go load up training mode and set the dummy to any character with a DP and then try to use Ken's fp DP against it. Then try to use any of Ken's DPs against another characters wakeup DP.
The only reason you hate this move is because scrubs mash it out, and you get hit by it...?

@ 125 The few times out of the FADC that Fei-long's ultra hits is the equivilent to one EX-less Ryu combo. Capcom doesn't seem to get it. Ken needs rightfully more damage on his heavy shoryuken than more invincibility on an invincible move. More so, he needs sweep frames with Ryu and Akuma, he shouldn't have a slower walk speed than Ryu, and his HK overhead needs to be less slow. After that, a consistant way to combo into ultra 2.

@ 33 Anything Guile can do, Dee Jay can do better. It was like that in ST. Guile's flash kick hits grounded people where Dee Jay's upkicks usually miss, but dee jay can like the MK version twice and then follow up with 1 or 2 hits of his super. Atleast in the SF2 days. And I agree: Guile = out, Charlie = in. Anyone happy with Guile obviously didn't play Charlie.

I guess the invinci will help much, but it still doesnt give a decent FADC option unless the second ultra can actually be fadced.

Invincibility frames for kens HP shoryuken means he would probably be able to do as an anti-air, and if u do it as an anti-air FADC, the full ultra combo would connect.

@137 When Ken Lands, regardless of what srk he did, there are 9 frames of recovery. I don't know what character you play but most characters can get a really good punish in during a nine frame recovery window. With viper I can punish him with just about anything. Some punishes I don't even have to wait for him to land. In general its just a very punishable move.
@127 That's the way I feel about Viper. With all these nerf's I'm seeing I'm just glad viper got a very minor nerf(1-2 frames more on m.tk). At this rate I expect her to be very good in this game just because a lot of the more powerful characters have weakened.

Nah, a few subtle tweaks to normals will put Guile on the map. Up hitstun on c.lp by 1 and the link to c.mp is going to be much easier and more consistent. Up hitstun on his overhead by a bit so that you can link it into stuff and use it for offensive pressure, and you can follow up target combo with more stuff. Guile having only 1-frame links sort of defeats the purpose behind hitconfirming with link combos; the idea of hitconfirm is to skew the risk/reward ratio in your favor, and what's the point of doing that with difficult, risky, inconsistent links? Easier links = more offensive pressure for Guile.
Flashkick hitbox improvements are nice, but Guile already has so many AA normals that you can basically leave FK as a reversal, and more range on HK Flashkick is a good thing.
Faster FAs = less need for Ultra setups outside of Lvl2/3 FAs.
Most of Guile's bad matchups come from characters that can either outzone him (Sagat, Seth, Ryu) or have ways around Guile's zoning and specifically can deal with offensive SB setups (Viper); Guile can get a TON of mileage out of following SBs in and countering opponent's response. But changes to normals will open up Guile's footsie game and let him deal more offensive pressure in situations that he can't deal with now, which will mean that he can be played in more than one way. That will give him a different viable approach in bad matchups and will make his life easier.
Honestly... I think Guile will be OK. His 7-3's will probably be 6-4's at worst and in those the better player usually wins anyway.
I'm more worried about Gen. The only clear thing here is that Gen is going to be different. I liked Gen as a character already, and he isn't low tier in the least; with the redesign there is always a chance that they will mess him up. But, I think there's no way they'll leave him as old Gen minus MK Hands, EX Oga, and jump trajectory. That would put him at sub-Dan tier.
Also, Blanka with even better normals will be beastly.

I obviously main Cammy, but from time to time I do get around playing Guile and, I must say, I don't know why you guys think he's so bad.
The man has only two moves, but their are very effective, specially using the EX metter.
The only problemn I have is landing the ultra, but that's not because there isn't oportunities. There will allways be an oportunity in a match. The only reason I don't take avantage of that, is because I find the imput hard to do when beeing presure, and I end up screwing things up.
But that's not ther chars fault. If I were better, I wouldn't miss and always land the ultra when I intend to. And if I could do that, I see no problem facing anyone with good old Guile.
I see no reason why regular Guile players, better than myself, wouldn't have a chance against any top tier char.
PS: Granted- chars with excelent overheads and crossups do represent a problem, but, once again, is just a matter of beeing able to use the Ultra whenever you see an opening. There's allways one.

#149 There are not always opportunities to use ultra, actually. The start-up, range, and invincibility are all horrible, so even if you see an opening, chances are the opponent will recover in time and punish you. If you want to use it as an anti-air, you have to do it really early into the opponent's jump, and you get three measly hits out of it instead of the full juggle. Most of the time, the opponent will land in time to block and punish you anyway.
If it were as easy as you say, pro Guile players would be using ultra all the time. Instead, you end up seeing it in about 5% of matches because it's too difficult to pull off in a real match or not worth the effort/risk.

I really don't think cammy should have been nerfed.
her hk. cs does 150, while ryu's srk does 160, akuma's does 190, and sagat's does 170.
Why is she losing damage?

ohhh man i really hope youre right. but wouldnt it have been cool for Guile to have another special move? almost every combo and startups are centered around the sonic boom, if we would have another, it would give us more options, and maybe it would even force us to go in more strategically.
But what kind of another special would Guile have??? (in future games, its too late for SSF4, I KNOW) Maybe flip’s like Vega, or a roll like Abel? Im still thinkin about that one.

SF4 can be fast enough, but I'm glad the games getting faster. Ken could use some tweaks in his favor, but I'd prefer if the direction of his imporvement would be as a kick character than fireball/dp one. LOL @ the guile comment. The alternates just posted are looking really good. Akuma looks beastly. I actually like Makoto's farm one. Bison looks Power Rangery. Do not like. They should have made him with a cape.

What kind of complete scrub guile players are u guys playing?
i hardly ever use double sweep in footsies. i mostly do crouching medium kick.
flash kick baiting? im more likely to bait and use shuryukens with shotos then bait and use flash kick since it is utterly useless. i mostly just combo into it
people completely misunderstand guile. First people say Deejay is a version of guile. NO charlie is and even remy can be considered "versions" of him. Deejay is not like em, just has a crappy version of the sonic boom. Is sagat a versin of the shotos cuz hes got similar specials? NO, and u wouldnt consider him as a replacement. thats why i dont accept deejay as a replacement for guile cuz he aint the same sorta thing.
Second, people keep thinkign we wanna turtle it out with em. not true, no one is asking flash kick to return to its WW functinoality, we just want it to work. A lot of suggestions on offensive improvements have suggested (mk crossup, comboable SH for example, improved normals, more damage)

@ 176 The "sonic boom" comment seems to be opinion. Dee jay had faster recovery with his Max Out in ST and his max out recovery was GDLK in Alpha 3. It's not crappy, just different.

although i'd still say a super slow fast recovery sb and ex sb is the best thing going on for guile at the moment.

That Guile was pedestrian. I use guile like chuck Norris...99% chance you will see me use every single one of his normals in a match. I have a 759,000+ replay up with Guile right now. Xbox live...search my name.
Guile is artistic in the ring...if they corrected his range on normals and his speed in outputting normals and if they also gave him 2 frame links instead of one, you guys are finished.

the change to kens dp was un needed. Its just gonna have people mash it even more. Ur not supposed to anti air with it anyway, ur supposed to combo into it. Ken is fine the way he is, the only thing he needed was to adjust the ultra to do the bulk of the dmg at the end like sagat, to let him combo it from a fadc and to have his strong dp knock down. THe only reason people say he sucks is cause ryu has sagat stats.

If u hate seeing weak players online all the time, and see a good player every once in a blue moon, MIGHT AS WELL PLAY AT THE ARCADES.
This is reason why many top players rely on the arcades over consoles to improve their game, because they know damn right there would be better competition at the arcade.
Yea they pump alot of quarters (actually u get rechargable cards these days which u can actually earn some of those tokens back and get discounts) , but it all pays off when they join a tournament and end up winning all that kash muhnee.
All in all dont rely on competetion for the console version other than pulling off your exucution.
And if u still B^tch about it then u must love getting suckered in to everything and love to b^tch about it afterwards.

I really hate these idiot comments about SF4 not being balanced. According to match-up data, which is how balance is measured, it's one of the MOST balanced fighting games EVER. As far as SSF4 not being balanced, it's not even out yet!

T-Hawk should not have faster footspeed. the guy is huge & im sure he'll do damage on par with zangief so it'll b overkill. he has a decent AA so it's all good for him. it's interesting that giefs health has been nerfed. i wonder who'll have d biggest health now (sagat got a health downgrade lol like it'll matter he'll still dominate many matches). people who complain bout giefs lariat bein nerfed...it was bound 2 happen. at least when gief does his lariat he's theoretically immune 2 cross up attacks. Dee Jay is similar 2 guile...then again Dee Jay has a move that chun-li players have been wanting back. so either way u get stun damage if u get hit by goukens denjin, not bad cant wait 2 test it out.

ken having more invincibility durin his hard shoryuken...i'll have to see how it'll affect the overall strategy(s) of ken players. faster FA now thats great it'll come in handy. to all the people clamoring for elena...give up she's not comin in this game (im a fan of her's so its sad but we gotta face reality). a match between Dee Jay & Guile should be interesting. at least Guile has a slight advantage in that he'll grab u in d air. in the end...we have to wait till april comes around. happy gamin y'all :) (note the sarcasm in my 1st line lol a lotta spammin hard shoryukens are comin your way lol)

All I know is that even if Guile and Vega are both as bad as they are in SSF4 that's just fine with me. Cause ill just be playing the same exact way I am now in SF4, although this nonsense about Vega's ex sky high not going through the opponent is bull! That what my main tool for mix ups against other charge characters (hopefully it still goes through fireballs)
