A number of people have reported that Street Fighter 4 is now available on the iPhone/iPod touch application store for $9.99.Someone give it a proper review. I probably won't be buying it anyway.
Just spent a few hours with it tonight and here are my thoughts:
For those of you who own iPhones, there really is no reason not to get it. It is one of the few games on iPhone that I would consider a real game, not some flash time killer.
The characters moves were chosen pretty intelligently, and implemented in a way that is useable, but still takes some getting used too.
The actually physical controls SUCK, and this is not Capcoms fault. There is just no way to make Street Fighter function ergonomically on a touch screen. Apple seriously needs to start opening up there blue tooth functionality so we can get some Blue Tooth Joysticks developed and in action. Took way too long to land Uppercut FADC Ultra.
The game has a really great Solo Mode experience, with a lot of staged scenarios to help you get used to various aspects that you struggle with.
The Training room is pretty sweet. Not too much in the settings for it, just Meter Level, and a couple other tweeks.
Have yet to try Versus.
It is pretty much a solid port. Everything works the same (With the available moves). I tested out Ryu's Crouch Jab, Crouch Jab, Crouch HP, Tatsu, linked fine.
Bottom Line:
Great purchase. My argument to all of you is this:
You wont be able to play this game at the level you play SF4, it's just not possible, even if you had all the tools. But! If this game is successful, maybe they'll make another one. On the next iPhone, or Droid, or whatever. Maybe Phones will have Projectors in them in the near future as a standard. Maybe we will be able to Wi-Fi, or BlueTooth Fight Sticks. That means SF4, anywhere, anytime, without having too risk your laptop getting messed up.
Street Fighter Tournament at the beach, how sweet would that be?
@8ighty6ix
Nice review man!
I gotta agree...it's actually pretty cool...and the choice of characters is pretty sweet...too many fighters on this touch screen will just give you claw hands from fighting everyone.
I even busted a sonic into double flash!!!
If you're an SF fan...you gotta get it really...
@#9 It's one of the first things I tried when I got around to playing as Ryu and I got it on the 3rd or 4th attempt. The controls are dumbed down but not dumb at all! They picked the right move for the right motion and the special move assist is genius. I'm at work but I can't stop touching my phone...now for Abel's cr.hp -> Ultra.
Lots of posts around the web say it's controls are not precise enough to get that competative console feeling. I say there's an opportunity for JWong/Daigo status with anything that has controls.
Awesome game! what else could you expect from a platform with no physical controls? I love the touch controls. I can do combos into the FADC>Ultra all the time with ryu. Fun stuff and makes you feel good to pull it off on the iphone, rather that watching youtube on it, wishing you were controling the action. Hopefully, Capcom will release updates with more characters available. that would be freakin SWEET!!!!
I purchased the game. I was very impressed with the controls, the visuals and presentation. Everything was what I could hope for. Not a gadget, but a true SF game. The controls are very responsive and the stick has the right size.
I made some footage of the "training room" (that's what training mode is called on the iPhone version):
So I suck huh?
Nah, I would love to snap neck into yoga fire --> into yoga inferno all over your disbelief.
We will see.
Thanks,
AWE-sim
The controls are really good, and it's pretty much a full game.
There's a Dojo with challenges.
There's an "Arcade" and "Survival" Mode.
There's Versus.
And there's a Training Mode, almost exactly like the SFIV training mode. Whoever said it had less options was wrong, you can change everything that you could in SFIV, meter settings, dummy settings, everything.
Gameplay wise, it's very smooth, I just did Chun's cr.lk, cr.lk, EX Legs > Ultra. I feel like such a gangster right now it hurts.
Overall, it's a whole lot of fun, get it.
guile isnt too bad in this version
hes better than the sf4 version, prolly plain low tier this time rather than bottom tier
the mk crossup alone really ups his game, this flash kick prolly has more range, less recovery. He has relatively more links too in this version (if u take into account everyone has fewer moves) so his normals transfer really well here.
it appears bison has gotten better, but i think its just cuz the cpu is better with him.
Can someone comment on the richness and graphic quality? What about the game speed on the iPhone 3G or 3GS? Does it lag?
I've been playing this game all day and i agree #6 there is no reason to not get this game. I'm amazed that they pulled this off!
Firstly the controls are really weird, after alot of practice mode i was able to easily fadc into ultra with ryu and land most combos without a hitch. Shoryukens still give me a bit of trouble but as stated earlier this is not capcoms fault, the touch screen just isnt properly suited to handle some commands. Most of the characters combos are intact and ive been able to pull most everyones bnbs.
I like the character selection and the simplified moves sets work well, no character seems to have a void in their move sets. I love the graphics the stages are just solid backgrounds unfortunately but the sprites themselves are well done. I love how the ultras start up just like they do in sf4 its like a mini cut scene leading into a giant drop in the opponents life bar.
The single player is pretty robust it has a seven match tournamentment mode with 4 levels of ai to abuse. It pretty much a glorified time attack mode but ive ben playing it all day so it must be ok. It has agood training mode but it has some limited options and a "free-sparring mode" where you get to pick your opponent.
The gameplay itself is very different than sf4, the game seems to move faster and combos do alot more damage and the damage reduction on combos isnt as severe as it is in street fighter 4. The game carries over most of the music from sf4 and it sounds great. The sound quality is nice and the character voices sound good as well. The game even offers a robust character specific "dojo" mode to help new players adapt to the touch screen or for people like me its bunch of trials to get an "S" rating on.
The online for me was a mixed bag I played about 50 matches today and about 15 had no lag at all and the rest varied from slightly laggy to unplayable but this could be due to a weak signal, maybe after i steal someones wifi my lag problems will clear up.
Overall this is the best iphone game on the market it has good graphics, great gameplay, a good selection of characters and a good selection of modes. I only wish the online was a little more reliable. I hope this helps and Im gonna go back to playing now.
Seem as though everyone was slagging it off before release it seems to be getting a good reception. Which I agree with To the comment above how do I play online because that would be awsome. I hope the add more trials
Im getting it
