Fans asked Christian Svensson and Seth Killian on the Unity Boards about resources devoted to games produced outside the main studio, if they're planning on doing anything with the Xbox 360 Game Room and a few other subjects. What's the deal with projects that have the Capcom name on them but are done by outside teams? 8ing worked on Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, how much are you guys involved with projects like these?
Sven: The titles we do outside of our main studios, still have dozens of internal resources assigned to them to assist, supervise and improve the work done externally. While it's less people dedicated than it would otherwise be if the whole project were internal, it's still a lot of people.
Are Capcom's arcade classics coming to Xbox 360's Game Room? I'd like to see Street Fighter 3 Third Strike and other old fighters available there. Do you still have the rights for old Street Fighter games?
Sven: To explain a little bit about how our rights are structured, all Street Fighter and Final Fight titles are held by Capcom USA. So far, we have not committed these titles to the Game Room, in part because we have put several of these titles, or better versions already up on XBLA (Hyper Fighting, SSF2T HDR, MvC2, Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix and coming very soon, Final Fight: Double Impact... which also has Magic Sword in it). I'll be watching consumer response to Game Room and weighing that against future plans we have on XBLA to see what, if anything we commit to it in the future.
All other titles are held by our online group in Tokyo and as yet, they have not committed to the program yet either. That may or may not change.
How come the Mad Catz sticks don't work when playing PlayStation 2 games on the PS3?
Sven: It's something that Sony needs to actively support within their firmware. I know Mad Catz has been speaking to Sony for some time about this but I'm not sure of the status.
Are you guys ever going to do anything with the EX series again? Who owns the rights for the characters so another game can be made?
Seth: I believe the characters are jointly owned by Capcom and Arika. I think the EX games were actually pretty solid, but as far as Capcom is concerned, and as we've said many times, there are no plans for the SF EX characters right now. Since Arika would also need Capcom's permission to use the characters, I think the likelihood of anything happening with them is very low for the foreseeable future.
