I agree that fighting like that shows endurance and who can stay mentally stable and consistant. This will show who is the best fighter.
I do not support counter picking. Just learn the match up. Match ups like Zangief vs Seth are really freaking bad though. Still if you have to counter pick to beat someone thats just sad and does not really prove the balance everyone clames this game has.

It's easy for netcode to give a good experience when the players both have outstanding connections are 20 ms away from each other. The fact that the netcode performs so poorly in America shows just how average it is, IMO.
I would love to do an online tournament like this in America (world wide?), but it's just impossible with the current netcode in SSF4.
He also mentioned the tournament set-up testing character tiers. The Call and Refuse rule kind of minimizes the impact, but the tournament is meant to cater to the player who can pick the best all-around character. Luckily, SSFIV is so stupidly balanced compared to pretty much any other 2D/2.5D fighter that the applicable cast is huge. You basically take out Makoto (which is almost debatable, as people are starting to use her more), Dan, Hakan, and maybe Gief, you have a fairly even player pool. I'm not saying that every match-up is 5/5, but you could go quite far in a first to 10 tournament with most any character at this point if you had the talent.
I agree with everything he said. However I personally would have added one rule: first to win 10 matches AND must win by difference of at least 2 matches, similar to many other sports. Basically you can't win with 10-9. The games would continue until you win by at least two matches, ie 11-9, 15-13, etc. I sorely wanted to see the game between Mochi and Mago go on for a few more rounds. I wasn't entirely convinced that Mochi deserved the victory. Not saying he's worse than Mago, just that the last match was way too close between the two great players.
Its common sense. People have been doing long sets to determine whose better way before you and your buddy were doing them. They don't do it at tournies because it would take to damn long.
Totally agree it kind of rings what Justin was saying how some places never have a consistant winner, reason is because we are using a very generic tournament system that does'nt really prove someone is the best. Endurance is the key and it's the ultimate test because after awhile you beguin to learn your opponent.
I really like daigo's way of thinking, very intellectual, sometimes people don't look to him and his intelligence and just see's him as a "god" per say of fighting games.
Moochi v Daigo! @Godsgarden_jp SSFIV online tourney is on in about and hour and 45mins! http://www.shadowloo.com/?p=1690 || Don't miss it! :D
@Jhendrix: I think that is like 6am PST?..
2pm for those in the UK?..
11pm for us in Australia.
If someone decides to counterpick, most of the time he will lose anyway (either he gets counterpicked himself or loses because he doesn't know the matchup as well as someone who uses one character only).
F*** Japan. They have no lag there when competing against eachother.. Thats why he says theres no difference between fighting in the arcade and online.
Blanka vs rog is a 7-3? I thought it was 6-4? I have more trouble with bisons.
@ DiasFlac0g you are a certified monkey! lol real talk! talk about d.ick riding lol sets are old school you doughnut if you had posted that and anyone was to say your a scrub for that kinda talk then they would be the scrub... but to leave a comment like yours after daigo said what he said makes you the monkey nut scrub! prick!
DiasFlac0g no is saying daigo is so smart because he thought of sets... you coming out saying i knew this already you lot are d.ick riders makes you look like a monkey
if people just worked out that sets are a good idea then there just a little slow not d.ick riders... be easy... some people on here are still learning, no need to come running out calling names makes you look like the silly one, its a grown up ting out here fall back
DiasFlac0g...you almost made a point. And then you made gave us multiple reasons to make yourself look like a jack@$$. Hating on Daigo won't help you any either, just give up.
@jjohan35: Your rule sounds interesting, but we all know there are risks with this rule too (it could could back and forth over and over like the recent Tennis match that lasted until the one guy had no skin left on his feet and was defeated in shame - not saying video games are the same at all but yeah...would be interesting to see)
@drmario111
Correct, the rumor got turned up on its head, apparently he won't be there now.
