The Electronic Sports World Cup is taking place in France from July 1 through 5th. Super Street Fighter 4 is one of the games being played and there's $14,000 in prize money on the line. $8,000 for 1st, $4,000 for 2nd and $2,000 for 3rd.if there is no Japanese representation, I consider it best in the world with an asterisk.
When the reigning evo/gg/sbo champions don't represent thats not what i call best players in the world.
I have a few dumb questions...
1) Is this being streamed?
2) Is there another way of watching these matches (i.e. YouTube)?
Thanks!
JB
Marn is nowhere near the level of Justin. How is he gonna beat Daigo? He got some wins on the west coast but honestly there wasn't that much good comp there. When Marn goes to east coast tournies he gets like 8th place.
@9 you are truly a complete idiot if you think SF4 Sagat was one of the most broken fighting game characters ever. Im guessing you are one of these new kids to fighting games that jumped on the SF4 bandwagon.... Have you ever seen a SF2 Akuma?!?!? thats broken... SF4 Sagat wasnt... overpowered yea but NOT broken.
@9 Sim is actually really good against Ryu so him being mid-tier has nothing to do in the way you're responding to it. Ryu is actually pretty even versus Sagat while Sim has an advantage over Ryu. Even though they beat Daigo it still doesn't mean they are better or even if they can do it again. IMO Sim was the most underrated character.
@9
Ryu was nerfed just slightly. Not enough to drop him from his spot on the tier list and certainly not enough to stop someone like Daigo from beasting with him.
Whether or not he will beat Wong at ESWC or Evo is yet to be known but the numbers certainly give Daigo the edge. Who knows, maybe Rufus' U2 will really make a difference for Wong this time but probably not.
Justin will win if Daigo picks Ryu thanks to U2. The Ryu Rufus match is even and I think slightly in Rufus favor now cus of U2. Justin is really good and he knows how to play against Ryu and know that Rufus is the best character in the game I think he can beat Daigo, it will be close but Justin can pull it off.
But if Daigo picks Guile I can see Daigo taking it cus Guile dose way better against Rufus.
But who knows, now that Daigo has this whole "I'm a pro player" mentality he might have stepped his game up to whole new levels.
I don't like the Final 4 single elimination round. There's no certainty that the 3rd place winner isn't actually the 2nd best player if he gets knocked out by the 1st place winner in the first round of the Final 4.
This is why I always prefer double elimination tournaments.
Actually this whole tournament setup doesn't work at all. Okay let's take one group of 4 players in the first round of the tournament, round-robin style.
Player A wins 3-0.
Player B wins 1-2.
Player C wins 1-2.
Player D wins 1-2.
Who's going to be the 2nd best player from this group to advance?? This method works in FIFA World Cup because points are awarded based on wins, along with goals and goal differences. Are they going to be awarding points in addition to wins at ESWC?
Justin is good against Alex Valle's ryu but not daigo....and those are two ryus on two completely different levels...daigo practice against the best so i doubt justin wong is ready for him still...and while on the topic..HAS EVERYONE FORGOT ABOUT LUFFY THE GUY WHO REALLY BEAT DAIGO MULTIPLE TIMES? HES GONNA BE THERE SO I WOULD WATCH OUT FOR HIM....AND EITA IF HES THERE
@jjohan35:
Alternately, just like how World Cup awards points for goals, they may consider how many rounds the player took instead of matches. So in your scenario, if B had to play all three rounds against C and D, but C swept through D in two, then the rankings would be:
1. A
2. C
3. B
4. D
idk, just a suggestion. I personally am a fan of Round Robin format, as long as size/time isn't an issue.
@15
Ya respect that comment Daigo is the beast and will always be JWongs cript tonight but I just think now that Rufus is ahead of Ryu on the tier list just makes JWong stronger and Daigo weaker. I think it comes down to the characters and now Justin has the edge all though I can see Daigo picking Guile and even though they got that double ko last time they played I do remember Justin getting that Perfect on him. O well we will find out next week at ESWC and if not there the main event EVO 2010
@ Balloon
I also like Round Robin but suggesting something like that would dramatically change the strategy on how to play these types of tournaments. And I don't necessarily think it's a good thing to apply to games like Street Fighter. I know plenty of good players who rely on catching up in later rounds based on adaptability.
Rufus Ultra 2 makes a huge difference against Ryu. It totally shuts down his game.
2 things:
1. Needs more Pastor Alioune
2. All the players had to confirm they were going by a certain date, I don't like how Daigo gets special treatment with maybe/maybe not comming... everyone is equal.
I have to agree with the Justin (Rufus) vs Daigo (Ryu) comments. Now that Rufus has an excellent Ultra 2 at his disposal, it just makes Justin's Rufus that much more dangerous. especially against Projectile heavy characters like Ryu. And Daigo relies heavily on projectiles in his game to control the spacing and flow of the fight. But when Rufus' Ultra 2 is on, that may completely alter the flow of the game since that can shut down Daigo's game. However, I can definitely see that Daigo is very much aware of this and will make some adjustments to his strategy.
Here's the seeds:
Street Fighter IV tournament
(4 groups of 4 players, two first players qualified for second group stage)
Top seeds
JWONG / INFILTRATION / LAUGH / MARN
High seeds
ZAK / PRODIGAL SON / LORDDVD / LUFFY
Medium seeds
YAMAZAKI / CHASIN / BRUN0 / FOX
Challengers
GEOM PKK / HANDY / BLACKIEEX / YAGAMI
let the inevitable heated seeding discussion begin!
most broken characters in sf history:
SF2- O.Sagat
SFA1- probably bison
SFA2- shin akuma
SFA3- 1st shin akuma, 2nd shin bison
SF3 series- Gill
SF4- Sagat
i wasnt much into the EX series but thats the most of them. compared to the previous characters Sagat is like Dan.
@ 21
not trying to sound like a fanboy, but Daigo didn't know the matchup. i read on SRK that he went with Fuudo and Eita to train with them using Rose. once he found out how to counter her, he beat Luffy pretty bad in set. just stating the obvious
Judging from what we saw from Daigo in Australia this month, he has the scariest footsies on earth. Dudes couldn't whiff anything w/o being madly punished. They were not so good though, but his reaction is just ridiculous. And he has played a lot with Guile, so at least he has a backup character now in case things go wrong.
I can see Marn beat Justin, but I'd rather see both of them do some sport.
Hmm. Not sure about sending Marn. His Rufus isn't as good as Wong. His Viper isn't as good as FM. And his Dudley is, well, not good enough... yet.
Can't wait to see some Wong v Hart, though. Let's clear up all the talk about who's better.
And I think the Diago/Justin matchip is pretty even now with Rufus' U2 and a slighly-nerfed Ryu. Wong no longer has to search for a Ryu counter-character. The new Rufus is up to the task.
Ryu is still a 5.5-4.5 matchup against Rufus. While U2 gave Rufus a way around fireballs, it doesn't change the fact that Ryu is still a more favorable matchup.
Keep in mind all the ryu's Jwong has been owning in ssf4 are not on the same level as Daigo. The best Ryu he fought, Alex Valle isn't the dominant force he was in his sf2 or sfa glory days.
How the match will play out is gonna be determined later on, but keep in mind that Justin's Rufus ran into all sorts of problems against Daigo and forced him to switch on numerous occasions. Now I would say that match is competitive, hardly advantage for Justin based on history.
I have to agree with #35 and #36 on Valle.
Valle is definitely not as dominant as he was in earlier SF games and while certainly now, his Ryu is good, it's not as good as it should be. I think his Ryu during vanilla SF4 was much better than what it is today.
And lol @ all the EX Tatsus he landed at Devastation. That move is just too good and he was striking fear into everyone except Marn of course.
Just because Ryan Hart beat Daigo doesn't mean Hart will beat Justin Wong. It doesn't work like that. Justin will stomp all the Euro players.
@Pancho
They updated things at the last minute and made it Super instead of vanilla.
@30
Yamazaki? As in the 12 player?? Holy sh!t, that dude was tight. Can't wait to see what he's been doing in SSF4.
Daigo better have improved his Guile - he'll need it if he wants to compete with Wong's Ultra 2 Rufus...
BUMP? Or something?
