I registered just to say - These guys are terrible.
Luffy sits there with full meter for rounds at a time and passes on comboing in super multiple times. He uses ultra when there's no chance to cross up, he's hoping for chip damage at best.
Starnab drops tons of combos and screws up chickenwing input on the regular.
Normally I don't compare myself to top player since I think it comes off as arrogant and ignorant... But I could beat both of these guys and I suck at this game.
These Euros just... aren't as good as the people here in America. Luffy looked OK, Starnab has nothing on Inthul. I'm not saying these guys suck they are good and stuff, but they aren't as good as the people here.
ESWC should be alright, but JWong and Marn are taking home 1st and 2nd, everyone else is there to battle it out for the scraps.
Luffy also beat daigo in at least one occasion last year at WGC Cannes and sent him to the losers bracket, Daigo stormed back and win and also beat him in a money match.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI2atb...
If you can beat him you can contend with Daigo.
I don't question these guys' abilities, but I must say this match was pretty underwhelming. Starnab in particular made way too many mistakes, both in input and in measuring game distances.
Also, what kind of ungodly button config is Luffy using there? Is he using a DualShock-to-360 adapter?
Justin Wong will take it for free. i don't think any EU can beat J. Wong.
Thats was the grand finals... really? They could barely stick to the basics, and the announcer had to beg them to turn off the music after luffy won one match lolol. Seen much more excitement in casual play this was sadly dull.
wow I think America ( US) will beat the World in SStf4 after watching Devastion and seeing this I think its America Versus Diago again in Evo 10 Go Justin Go Valle Go America
What the f**k does that French man think he's doing? Stopping "One More Time" before Daft Punk says, "One more time"? That's a crime to rhythm and humanity.
Damn French people.
ya guys gotta applaud the tourney for the production value of this one.
That's no excuse to be playing sloppy as they did during the grand finals. After seeing valle and marn fight off once again, there matches aren't stale like that. And how often has Daigo and luffy fought? Could of sworn Daigo won the majority of the matches between them 2 in the long run on that one tourney.
I'm surprised to see these guys on tournaments.. Saw them often online and played against them on vanilla but never expected them to rise to tournaments wtf
I guess the buff that low-tier fighters got in SSFIV made these people more dangerous and more useful than vanilla.
Honestly do you guys think Fei Long or Rose in vanilla can beat a good Sagat or Akuma? Not a chance in vanilla, but in SSFIV yes.
the gap between japanese and the world increased with ssf4, now japanese players know all the tricks of all the characters so they won't be caught with their pants down like in vanilla
Luffy beat Daigo once because Daigo didnt know the match. Once he got downloaded he was done.
Justin and Marn are gonna take 1st and 2nd unless the Euros pull something out of there ass.
@24
I dont think the gap between the Japanese and the wrold is gonna be that big anymore. Everyone got the game at pretty much the same time and the Japanese havent found anything ground breaking. I think there is gonna be less of a gap at least between the US and Japan.
I had to register just to say this: last month, in the Stunfest (Rennes, France), Luffy beat Tokido (who is considered top japanese player), and 2 other French players managed to do so in the tournament there (Renegad and Evans). I was there and I saw it with my very eyes. As it has been said, he also sent Daigo to losers in Cannes some months ago.
While this final migh be boring, please don't say "I would beat any of them". I do agree the top USA players could most likely beat them, but not random people commenting at eventhubs unless they demonstrate it.
PS: Luffy plays with a PSX pad (not dual shock) 0via an adaptor to 360.
I can respect their gameplay, I mean they'd probably beat me. But I do agree though it was kind of boring, and I saw a lot of mistakes I rarely witness in American and Japanese tournaments.
@ 26 craziryu,
If they're better than what we are watching here then I don't see the consistency that other top players have. Pro's grind out sloppiness; it's what separates them from the rest. Luffy's rose is pretty crazy though.
Yeah it wasn't as hype as american tourneys usually are. It was a pretty causal played final match, and the audience was kinda salty because all the swedes and last years champ got beaten. Last years tourney was mad hype though.
Anyway it was nice to see Elf, Guy, Fei, Rose in top 4.
Idk. It seems like people are using one set of matches as a pretty flaccid case. Consistency is what makes pros pros.
I'm from EU and I don't think Europe has a chance against US and Japan in SSF4, especially comparing this Grand Final to the Devastation one where there were only a few top names. I think EU SSF4 player need to venture outside Europe and play some of the top US or even the Japanese players.
The Finals looked boring and the commentary was "meh". That final needed some energy.
Very boring, dropped a lot of links, and bad spacing. No one really "went for it", which to me is very lame. Seemed like I put on an Xbox Live replay cause I was bored... Not saying they are bad but THAT match was awful, my Fei is better than that, no mind games were used.
While that Luffy played the match well, there was too much random trading going on between the two characters and it seems like that kinda Rose won't hold up under the scrutiny of aggressive US tourney players.
And after seeing how NinjaCW plays Makoto when he isn't afraid of the other character? This Rose is going to be qualifier fodder if US and Japan have a large presence at ESWC.
LOL, I could not stop laughing at stupidity of the majority of the comments here. @34 Gayguile, totally agree with you.
@ 2 Grondt, ultra 2 for chip damage xD? Had he not used it this way, rose would not have breaked the pressing of fei.
@39 these dudes clearly know each other and each played safe, 'going for it' is not a good idea, just try to approach starnab or luffy like a dumb and you'll understand.
Anyway, have a nice time boasting about yourselves people, you can also shove your ego where I think. GG luffy and starnab
Like Lebron said, maybe the Americans and Japanese spoil us with their play cause I'm used to seeing awesome setups which lead to perfect links, great mind games with tons of hype and those guys play each other all the time as well so that point is void. Going for it is what makes Street Fighter fun, and clearly all the top players seem to think it's a good strategy.
Pretty boring and lame final, but judging from other videos (especially versus japanese players), i think at least 2-3 EU players can be easily compared with top US and JAP players.
BTW, is Luffy going to evo these year?
Luffy plays respectable. He doesn't "go for it" because he's looking for openings and is playing relatively safe.
This particular finals match was a bore, plus the crowd doesn't really seem to care...they seemed more entertained waving their phones around.
@11, Ryan Hart blows since he got 3rd in THIS tourney. Meaning Luffy and Starnab are stronger. And to be frank, I think only Luffy can really compete with US or JPN players.
WoW...incredible...
Why so much jalousy or hatred against these players?
I read: "not bad but I can beat them" O_O
Stop these debilities, and please make a real tournament to show us what you could do.rofl.
Concerning ESCW,I hope for all the fanboys that J.Wong or Marn may win this tournament and beat "easily" Luffy or StarNab...since they are srubs...
funny how they played the song "one more time"
when he had to win, one more time..
lots of idiots on eventhubs today... they beaten japanese players .. they arent noobs like 99% of u guys
Luffy is the best Rose player right now. Better than Saqs. Saqs even said this himself.
"Low Tier? Im guessing Justin or Daigo will not be anywhere near THAT!"
How ignorant. I was once at a tournament (not that you're familiar with those) and saw justin doing MvC2 MMs with commando/commando/commando and making bank.
Don't mean to be a nut hugger but damn.
playing it safe gets d job done. to all those ppl who said "i can beat'm"...prove it. as they say..."those who can step up. those who can't...step aside." if the only thing u can 'contribute' is ur ego...then keep it 2 yourself cuz most likely ur a scub who probably plays according to the tier list. don't hate...congratulate.
@2: I registered just to say, that you're the biggest ignorant in the world.
I participated in that turney with Luffy and Starnab, you have no idea and nobody can say they can beat anyone by watching a video, period.
Starnab IS possible the best Fei Long in EU and surely on the same lvl as Inthul.
Luffy's Rose IS possible the best in, yes, the world atm.
Play them and win or stfu.
Luffy has insane defense, if you look at his matches against Tokido you'l see that hes making Tokidos vortex useless, or attempt at a vortex anyway. Hes countering 2/3 of Tokidos attempts, that alone makes Luffy a great player. He knows how to turtle, it might be boring to watch but it is effective and most US and Japanese players aren't used to this which might bring him far in EVO(if he attends).
Ahahahahahahahahaha every time the top player in this little tourney tries to go for a jumping crossup vs. Fei fücking Long I pee myself a little.
Let Americans and the Japs focus on the fighting games, you little Europes just go enjoy your guaranteed paid vacations and superb quality of life. *tries to look smug while sighing a little bit inside irl*
(at least the announcers are better than the Devastation Dipshîts - they seem to understand how to shut their mouths when they can't say anything useful. Too bad most Americans don't understand that nuanced concept...)
Hello English Friend.
To be End
Hi guys,
I'm french just, and i just want to says that the french players aren't pro gamer they play for fun on there free times, most of japanese and american top players ARE pro they are paid to be there. the are most of the time invited to there tournament. French people have to paid their entry, hotels and have to take sometime a day-off from work.
So please we don't disrespect japanese and US players, do the same for us.
It's just a game.
thank you.
"I think America ( US) will beat the World in SStf4"
"I agree US and Japanese are better players than Europen players"
"Justin and Marn are gonna take 1st and 2nd unless the Euros pull something out of there ass."
"Let Americans and the Japs focus on the fighting games, you little Europes just go enjoy your guaranteed paid vacations and superb quality of life."
Hahahaha guys you're totally crazy!!
French players are really better than this! Just ask Tokido San how many games did he won against Luffy!! He was totally lost!! Luffy has the best Rose in the world and Starnab is one of the two "Fei-Long gods" (with Evans, an other french top player)...Even Mago said that Evans and Starnab were clearly better than him!
Wong and Marn have NO CHANCES to win! ;)
Wow... no Japanese presence announced
might as well call it the offical 2nd place SSF4 tournament until they can bring in Japanese elites.
