dude, I'm sorry but these character models are just FUGLY... I would sooo rather have sprites over these :/
Something about the graphics, I'm just not liking it. The characters lack any texture, they look like smooth shiny 3D shapes. Also their shadows are way too dark and it becomes very noticeable in the gameplay footage.
lol, they look like old school 3D models like in the FMVs of Tekken and FFVII.
I like how they show exactly what the assist does.
i think the whole comic book border for the teams is stupid/cheezy/tacky. They need hand drawn artwork for the character marker faces and full body when highlighted. Take sf4 (or any other fighting game) for example. The characters look wayyyy better drawn. The background, blue grids, and assist selection looks good though. If they really wanted to overkill they could put a tiny screen next to each assist type with the character performing the move.
lol @#5
You get YOUR body laced with poisonous, unbreakable metal, AND get your wife killed by Bucky(BUCKY, of all people), and we'll see how well YOU feel in the morning!!! XD
Seriously, though, yeah he looks pissed....yeesh.
I see some people are still nagging over the style of the game, just as many did prior to Street Fighter IV's release. Personally i'm loving it so far and i think the comic book select screen is a neat touch. I do admit though, after seeing the new Mortal Kombat gameplay/fatality video i am more looking forward to that than this now
Not the most visually appealing (or exciting) character menu - reminds me of the crap CG model art from the late 90s like the Iron Man/X-O Man of War: Heavy Metal style. I hope this gets fixed before the game does come out.
found an example:
@halo
I really don't understand why Eventhubs can show the test video for a Mortal Kombat movie but completely steers clear of the new game altogether. -especially when they are going back to the roots, adding tag team play, etc.
This is one messed up site.
I'm starting to agree with the people who don't like the graphics. I like the proportions and style and everything, but they look kind of dull with such saturated because they have no texture. They said the character art (the ones a few news posts down) were in-game models.
http://twitter.com/marvelvscapcom/sta...
Maybe they just haven't implemented some kind of filter yet, similar to Super Street Fighter IV's colors 11 and 12? I think if they got all of the models looking like the art, everyone would love it and it would really drive that Western comic style home.
that is really ugly. I'm going to give capcom the benefit of the doubt for now. I mean it's still in development.
1. i'm sure they'll change the selection icons
2. polish of the the character design; fixed the saturation, more detailed, etc.
although i'm still not that crazy with the art direction they are using, too much cg and and not enough comic styling
I think the graphics are fine personally. I DO prefer the style used in SF4 but this style(i.e. western comics) is good imo. Also that select screen CAN'T be final. I counted squares and only 28 character's could fit without being covered by the players selections.. So take this select screen with a grain of salt. Though this does comfort me into believing in DLC characters
I thought they had to rush this playable version just for E3? Take it easy guys, they have a decent amount of time on their hands before release.
This game looks great on video but looks bad on stills. So much for comic book style.
@16 jaybonaut
The reason why they showed the mk movie was because they wanted to know if capcom wanted the street fighters to be made similiar to the way mk made their movie eventhubs is a capcom site and covers most of their fighting games and fighting game movies so I understand why they don't cover the new mk game if u want coverage for multiple games try iplaywinner
I think you guys complain way too much about art style, especially at such an early time in development.
Its not that big of a deal... and lets face it, if you loved MvC2, you will buy this game regardless of it's art style. So just don't even bother.
I just can't believe no one in these comments is thinking. The reason they look bad is because there are the character models without any dynamic lighting. That's why in game footage looks awesome and these look like crap. If you look in the threads with the gameplay video, everyone has the boner over the art form and here everyone's about to pull a diablo 3.
Of course things arent final, thats why you talk crap about it now just incase the developers dont do anything about it. You never know.
i love the new comic book look, this game is looking so amazing.
It could be possible they could have more than 56 but the real question is could they top more number of playable characters. And by playable I mean fun to use.
Those models look amazing, I can't believe they run smooth in real-time, but they sure pulled it off. :-)
Lmao, people gotta be kidding me with this whole "I want sprites" or "these models suck" crap.
I like how out of nowhere, all of a sudden people support 2-d over 3-d, when I'm sure %90 of them complaining are rushing out to see Toy Story 3 this week..
I think we're expecting too much out of a game that has more than a year left for production, they rushed this demo out because half of you guys cried to them about playable demos at E3 and they gave you it. Hulk's not even done, Seth said the only two that were close to finished were Deadpool and Dante (check the Gamespot Interview).
The models, I agree, look pretty bad in the character select screen but come on guys, look at them in action. They don't look half that bad when they're moving or even when they're out there posing at the start of the match. I think they just didn't get a chance to apply the textures for these pre-battle models and that's all. People are totally ignoring the videos they've seen as if this has wiped everything out.
the hideous art direction has to be because of marvels involvement.. no way in hell capcom whos known for its artwork gotten it this ugly on its own
Yeah, you keep telling yourself that weaboo. The fact is that it's just shading, don't get your ass in a bunch.
why are you guys complaining about the graphics? when has MvC ever been about graphics? Its always been sprites recycled from, in some cases, pretty old games. you guys should be greatfull they are even making the game.
Just the fact that they are trying to put a lot of characters in the game, and not characters that were pretty much already made, NEW characters mostly built from scratch, should be enough. But i guess this is just the age of the jaded gamer
It was Marvel's Choice or else they could have said "No" a long time ago Lysol and project could have been cancelled.
Anyway, I support them mainly on the fact that Captain America looks alright (sounds like crap but looks alright) and Ironman's armor looks great which has me wondering what War-machine and Eric O'grady would look like in that style.
Not conforming just liking what I see from the characters I want to see, though they DID F*** HULK UP(But really doesn't bug me since I'm a bigger Green Scar personality/Skaar/Hiro-Kala aka PLANET HULK fan then I am a fan of Savage Hulk).
The graphics are "meh", in stills but awesome in motion. People complaining are just a bunch of lame whiners anyway. Most likely the same people who bitched and cried like girls about SFIV and then went out and bought it. Just a bunch of weak whiners wit no life who complain over the internet about every little thing.
I dont see what is wrong with complaining. Whats wrong with constuctive criticism. We are gunna through down hard earned money for this regardless so why not make suggestions? Thats the whole point of showing off the demo to see peoples reactions to it. They show it to us, we react to it, give feedback, they make changes. People that complain about negative feedback need to understand that. Not hard to comprehend.
Ex_Ein if it was Marvel's fault the style looked like this why wouldn't the first two have looked like this, or had an art style trying to capture the same feel as MVC3? It's not like Marvel just handed their characters to Capcom, they've always had a say and it's just ignorant to claim otherwise.
I'm not saying it's wrong to complain, and I'm also not any conformist, but I think saying the game looks like crap because of these intro screens is just idiotic. Regardless of what anyone has to say, it's been stated by Seth that this game is far from complete, and it still has a year. Remember those ugly screens from SF4 when it was shown for the first time? Yeah, me too. More than that, we've seen the game in action and it looks very good.
I'd have also liked to see Green Scar, the whole Planet Hulk "epic" was probably one of the most enjoyable Hulk stories in a long time. That said, you know that this games for everyone, people just know Angry Hulk more.
Keeping fingers crossed for Iron Fist, Luke Cage, and Cho w/ Herc Hammer
Because they changed hands of editors in chief remember 11 years ago, Joe Quesada wasn't editor in chief, 11 years ago Marvel was actually in a pretty bad shape(this was before the successful movies and stuff like Civil War), and marvel knows how much time and money it would take to make new sprites for HD graphics? So why not cut cost and make 3D model and have them in time for THE SUMMER MOVIES OF 2011 like THOR AND CAPTAIN AMERICA?
I never said Marvel didn't have a say did I? All I said was "It was Marvel's Choice or else they could have said "No" a long time ago Lysol and project could have been canceled."
Kinda like in MVC2, they cut cost and just reused spirited form the old Marvel and Capcom Games into one game while making a few new characters.
as for my other comments they weren't directed at you
Any normal person with a decent IQ should understand the different concepts of constructive criticism and complaining. Whining about how things should be changed with 9 months left to go in development is not "constructive criticism". And you also have to come to the realization that not everyone agrees with you and that what you think is not fact.
MVC2 sprites > MVC3 character models.
You know, that whole gameplay over graphics argument isn't really valid anymore. Maybe back when we were still playing Sega Genesis and SNES. This is 2010. Gaming is a huge, multi-million dollar industry. There is NO excuse anymore. Games should have awesome gameplay, AND look damn good while doing it. Even indie-games or low-budget titles can still be polished and have pleasing visuals. To me, these character models just look...Like someone didn't care.
"Yeah but it's still in development, and they have a long way to go, blah blah blah..."
That may be true, but I would rather they just waited a bit longer, til things looked really nice and presentable. But, E3 was probably a big deadline for them to get the game out there.
I'm sure the game will play well, and it will sell well. This is Capcom after all. All I'm saying is that, as far as the visuals go, it's a step backwards that's hard to overlook....
wtf, iq lol. 9 months is a looong time making complaints/suggestions is constructive criticism. The outcome of a complaint and constructive criticism is the same! Capcom barely announced it and barely showed their demo. Like I said capcom released the demo to see what people thought about it. I don't see whats wrong with wanting some changes in the game. I think a large percentage of the community would agree with me there.
complaining isn't the same as constructive criticism. Especially since a lot of you are saying OH MAN THIS SUCKS blahblahblah. you know there is a difference between making a suggestion and being a disrespectful prick. Capcom didn't have to make this game at all and the way some of you are acting i hope they just cancel it.
and how can you say MvC2 sprites > than MvC3 models and then go on to say that graphics are important? Are you kidding me? the sprites in MvC2 looked pretty average as far as sprites go and that was back then. You're saying that now, in the age where you say graphics matter, that old, reheated sprites look better than these 3d models.. yeah i don't follow your logic sir
but you know what, live your life homie.
wtf lol disrespectful? Why wouldnt capcom make this game, its a butt load of money. Who are you talking to? Im agreeing with anyone that wants something to change in the game. Someone might say something sucks for a reason. There is nothing wrong with that. Lol wtf everyone is living life homie. hahaha live your life, who are you dr phil.
@YoYoMan
New doesn't necessarily equal better. You don't follow my logic because you don't know anything about art.

Putting this here for the mod people to see.
@YoYoMan

QFT, Just let the haters hate...
A complaint and a criticism lead to the same outcome in a situation. It leads to thinking why there was a complaint/criticism and taking action based on that.
I think the graphics are good but it doesn't have the soul of hand drawn sprites. Take ryu's fireball animation in 3rd strike for example. Look at ryu's back when he throws the fireball. Shets hoard. with 3d graphics theres more of a realistic look to it so takes away a lot of that funk.
No. Its about how you present it. Saying something sucks as opposed to stating something you believe can be improved can lead to different outcomes. One will probably piss someone off, while the other will lead to a more healthy relationship and a better understanding between both parties.
Also, considering there was almost no chance of this game being made a couple years ago, some of you should be a little more respectful of what your getting. I mean, there are some things i really don't like about SF4 but overall i'm more happy that they even made the game instead of just leaving the franchise to be forgotten.
no doubt, respect is much needed but developers still need to consider why people react how they do. Developers still need to respect consumers and thier demands/suggestions/reactions because they dump hard earned cash flow into thier game. im pretty sure the franchise will never be forgotten. mvc2 10 + years and still going strong. lol its more than just keeping the franchise going, its about living up to the name.
I don't know what other company that makes fighting games allows fans to dictate the development of the game, especially while it's still being developed. Most companies would make the game and give it to you how they intend to make it. They might change it with DLC afterwards due to fan reaction. Capcom is really doing a good thing by even listening to the fans at all and taking the time to respond. People should just be a tad bit more respectful when asking for things to be changed about a game Capcom has barely begun work on.
ok then thats good that they listen to fans. Mvc series has been a big part of gaming for many people and its been 11years. Dont you think people would be upset/nervous/angry if the game doesnt satisfy in certain areas? Capcom shouldnt take those reactions as a grain as salt. Capcom will most definitely get the respect and money if the game is successful. They are doing this for the fans and most importantly the money. They cant fhck up and risk not making that dough.
Seeing As Where looking at a character select screen essentially why don't we talk about possible characters has anyone else seen the ``alleged`` full character list on http://www.computerandvideogames.com/...
it looks pretty cool to me, mike haggar, trish, thor, even albert wesker. What characters would u guys like 2 see anyways i've pretty much got the gist of not liking the stills and i'm pretty bored of reading them 2 be honest.
I wanna take you for a ride!
