Cool idea, and I like the variety of characters selected. No Sagat, really? That's food for thought, or at least I think so.

cammy and fei long are both technically new in Japan, so all three of them are playing new characters, but i see where your going with this so yea they are pretty brave.

Sako has the best cammy I have ever seen. I'm trying to get my cammy to that level.
Fei is new to Mago. Daigo should consider play another character for this tournament, since this is not a serious tournament anyway.
pretty obvious daigo wasn't going to use guile. only nubs who saw daigo use him a few times think he was going to main him haha. @8 you should go do some research on ryu before you start saying random stuff. ryu got nerfed the hardest in the game. have to work a lot more to win.
@9 Ibuki is a lot like Akuma which Momochi played in SF4. He probably figured out her vortex is better compared to Akuma post SSF4 nerf.
Sako is winning this hands down. Sako is on another level compared to Daigo and those other players.
@11, 12, and 21, Yea, i kinda hate to tell you guys, but Ryu is "essentially" still the best player in the game. His crushing combos, and zoning tactics keep him in top tier. Ive actually had my FP DP get FA'd in SF4 so that's nil. Anyone stupid enough to believe Ryu isn't top tier needs to have thier eyes checked, period. Heck he is still the most picked character online. Even Daigo, continues him, I fight with Ryu I win just as much as i did in SF4. He's either 4 or 5 on the tier i assure (When a legit one releases). That is all
As long as I can stream these matches, I'm completely satisfied. :-)

sorry to break it to you, but Ryu is not the best Character in the game. Rufus, Sagat, abel are better than Ryu overall.

There probably wont be any lag. They have godlike internet connections in Japan. I think the average is like 15mgb, add that to the small land mass and your looking at no lag.
Ryu isnt top tier anymore because there are just better characters now. He was top tier in vanilla but barely.
Ryu is still yop on the tier list it takes more for him to dominate but its still possible fireball traps, zone and defense nd lets not forget the srk the best set-up light srk anyway cuz of the full damage so I expect Diago to wreck shop and Sagat to destroy as well now is Shiro going to play I want to see his Abel
@spotlesseden Well, you must forgive me, but to say Abel is better than Ryu is indubitably nothing, but idiocy. I don't know where this obscere, and psuedo notion arose from that Abel can sky rocket to top tier with such diminutive buffs. Also for the record the tier lists from oblong jwong, on iplaywinner are irregardless, and you would have to have weak mentation to believe it. Guile, Viper, bison, Abel, higher than Ryu, and Sagat? Remember Bison got nerfs, Viper got buffs, but was pretty low on tier, Guile not needed to explain, Abel quicker sweep, and new ultra, and top tier? Absurd, Ryu lost shoryu, ex fireball, and ex tatsu dmg, (sml dmg) no super trap, and wishy-washy trade to ultra 1. Only real maiming going on for Ryu is super trap, so yes i assure, that ryu is still "essentially" the best character in S-SF4. The only characters i see being higher, are Akuma, Rufus, maybe Sagat, and maybe Rog. Chun is ok, but she's hyped she's not that good. Ryu's zoning, and combos are far better. That is all
I think the reason for Momochi using Ibuki and for why Mago might be Fei at the moment is, that they don't want to mess up their timing with their Vanilla characters.
Not until after SBO anyway. SBO is at the arcades, so they will be using SFIV, not Super.
Can you imagine Mago trying to do "Angry Scar" at SBO? =P

Ryu's DP is USELESS now. Less invincibility frames then any other shoto. You get punished for trying to use it as an anti air. You either lose or it trades and when it trades you do about a jab punch of damage to them while they land a 100 hp. Plus the new characters and buffs to pre-existing characters shut down his fireball game (i.e. Rufus, Bison, Blanka etc Ultra 2) Ryu is not even top 5. Check all the tier lists. People who used to whine about Ryu should be happy but they just keep whining.

Ryu's good but when it comes to zoning...dhalsim & seth outperform him. When it comes to offensive pressure...boxer & rufus outdo him. There just so much goin againts him this time around. Ibuki, akuma & dudley will slap him around. Thing is at least he's consistent. He doesn't change much over the years (aside from nerfs/buffs). He's still a really popular character after all this time (lol hell I used him in the old days but I moved on to gouken & dhalsim). I may not like him much now but you gotta respect the ppl who put in lots of time to master him...nerfs & all. So in closing...you can say he got nerfed bad but that doesn't help win matches. Duces :D
Lastly...*sigh* America is the top country in the world yet our internet ain't all that. Lol instead of developin the next genearation of weapons we should put that money in developin awesome internet (the internet was developed by the military as an early warnin system in the late 60s/early 70s) so we can play online with our buddies. Daigo clinging with Ryu is kinda disappointing. I wish he'd have gone for Guile, or maybe he didn't have enough time to master him.

You need to learn how tier lists are made. If Daigo started using Dan or Hakan and kept winning online, their rankings would go up and they wouldn't be bottom tier. Ryu is only up there cause Daigo and the actually pros keep winning against scrubs. Ryu isn't close to godlike tier like some others have explain. There are no surprises in his game, his poking game isn't the best, damage is quite low, FADC ultra does crap damage, rushdown game isn't good and etc. He is just a good mid tier character. Sagat or Rufus prob #1. There are less sagat players because of you people whining about him all day in sf4 and everyone can see his weak spots now.
Ryu is still easily one of the best characters in the game. Also the guy asking what major tournament has been won with Ryu only needs to go back to Midwest Championships where Valle won with Ryu. The other tournaments either included Justin Wong which is an automatic Rufus win or people like Sanford Kelly who didn't play Ryu in vanilla.
Most nerfs to all characters were slight. If a character was good in vanilla they are still good now.
Mago is probably using Fei for a couple of reasons:
1) He's really serious about switching to him.
2) He doesn't want to ruin his chances at SBO, where he'll want to do standing short into tiger shot all the time (he'd have to break that habit to play Sagat in SSF4).
3) It's an online tourney, and maybe he's treating it more like an exhibition.
But overall, ANY one of these guys can take it. They're all godlike and yes, SSF4 is much better balanced now. You can whine about tiers all you want, but it's not going to matter as much anymore.
Predicting a Momochi win. He is gdlk. Can stand up to Kuroda in SF3. What more need be said?

I said it before SSFIV came out. We will see a lot of traction with SSFIV characters on the tournament scene (Ibuki, Dudley, and possibly Juri, with THawks and others dotting the landscape, I'm sure), but not until after the big summer tournament season (EVO, SBO, etc). People will have only had a few months to learn new characters instead of adjust to changes to their mains, learn the new match-ups, and stay in practice for these big tournies. Once the big tournaments are out of the way, I'm fairly sure we'll see a lot more SSFIV characters active in the tournament scene.
Props to Daigo for getting Sako in that sh't. He's in my top 3 favs to watch. Too bad Iyo isn't participating, I haven't seen him play any top tier japanese players since SSF4 came out, wonder how he'd do now. Don't care about those other Dhalsims, Iyo is the man.
if you watch daigo play online 'gameinn' account you can see certain mistakes example:
when he jumps in to do a safe hp or hk sometimes he messes up the timing of it and gets thrown lol if you watch him play local matches this never happens... my thoughts were there is still lag but im not sure i was only going on what i saw on online matches??? who knows cant be that bad if there doing tourneys online.
and yes ryu is still top tier only major nerf was he super fireball trap
his hp dp is not the greatest anti air you have to select the right dp most cases its mp dp for anti airs now but it varies due to spacing which makes it a bit harder to read and punish but if you watch diago, jump in's on him are not a good idea!

im hoping daigo wins as i am a ryu player and a fan lol but i've seen him loose to alot of abels, viper's and sims probably ryu's worst match ups

this game is for the most part balanced with a couple of bad match ups here and there but, ryu is one of those characters whit no losing match up. i dont care what the list says he has options against every character in the game.
ryu probably still wins match ups like rufus zangief honda. because these characters are just easy to zone out but its nothing to dramatic like a 6-4 but more like 5.5-4.5. ryu is also one of the most versatile characters in the game.

Tier list don't exist, there is no such thing but made up gibberish by the internet community. SSF4 is a fairly balanced game, can some characters do things better than others, yes but that's how it has always been in SF series. There are no such things as counters either, I find it highly amusing people like to crown certain characters over others. No Guile is not a counter to Bison it simply is no such thing because this matchup has been happening since SF2 and people then didn't complain about "counter picking."
Any character can beat any character dependent on the players skill only.

Tier List do exist simply because characters are not made the same. All the characters are made pretty diverse and because of that you get characters that are better then others.
If the best Bison faces the best Guile and they both have the same skill chances are the Guile player will win because Bison has to work alot harder for the W then the Guile player dose.
Ryu isnt that good anymore because there are alot of characters that are better then him now. Many of you say he can still zone really well. He can do this to the lower tier characters but not upper mid to top anymore. The top 5 characters in the game make it really hard for Ryu to zone them. And the damage nerfs to everyone have really affected Ryu now.
With all that said the game is very balanced and everyone will get moved around except for Rufus who is the best character in the game. Ryu is good but not top tier anymore.
@SedoSan, yep Uryo is the boss! Oh and lol at the guy that said Viper got buffs...in a sense she did, but she also got nerfed quite a bit. The fact that her damage wasn't reduced too much is in itself a buff, but her BK's are less safe and some new characters hitboxes screw her over a little bit...Uryo is amazing though...he is my favourite to win this...but then I think...online? Viper is hard enough as it is.

Unless those "top players of Japan" are actively helping to teach or pass something on down to the rest of the community or doing anything other than giving us pretty video footage to "ooo and aww" over, izzy can honestly say that a "elitist-only" tournament is simply not impressive and does little to contribute to the players. Personally I think there is far too much emphasis on these so-called "top-players" and not enough of the traditional local tournaments, even in some of the smaller areas, that made the overall SF community what it is today. It is what is and the "look-at-me, look-at-me" mentality of some of today's better known players can suck my left nut.
In my opinion, I believe the community should realize and not forget that the entirety of SF's top players can never be fully realized. It is a big world and what we all see and are exposed to is merely a sliver of the talent truly out there.
