Update: The Tournament Mode DLC patch is already out for some PlayStation Network gamers, depending on their geographic location. It's a 12 megabyte download.• Tournament Mode is a head-to-head in single-elimination tournament with brackets, which works with 4 or 8 players.
• You can watch other tournament matches in progress while you're waiting for your turn and voice chat. Players competing can hear you as well, but if it annoys you, there's a mute option.
• To help with lag, spectators will be a little bit behind the actual match that's being played.
• Tournament Mode works with SSFIV's recording feature.
• There are no battle points or rankings, but Tournament Mode will give players unique and special online titles, which can be won and lost from other players.
• Character selection is double-blind.
• Tournaments will continue on even if a participating player drops out.
• While the max amount of people a tournament can hold is 8 players, a 9th person can be there as the host. If the host drops, another will be found.

When you get a counter it, it's not just a title, it means that you do an extra 1.5x damage with that attack or something like that. For Bison's U2 it probably didn't add that.
I was hoping they would increase the damage for Chun li's 2nd ultra.
Wow...Whats the incentive for playing this mode other than for fun ???? All you get is a Trophy for winning the Tournament, thats it ???? No Grade Points,No Championship points, nothing to show for your achievments, just a Trophy. How about something rewarding for a change.
@#4 I believe it's 25% extra?
Anyway, the issue with Bison is that it was dealing LESS damage than non-counter, 25% less if I recall correctly (it's easy to test in training mode, just enable counter hit and attack data). It will probably do standard damage regardless of counter status, as none of the ultras I tested (in vanilla, several months ago) were affected by counter status.
I hope they patch up online play, this netcode still sucks just like SF4,If they messed up the first time with a bad netcode, why would they mess up again ????? Matchmaking is horrible....Again.Online play should be the focal point of this DLC,then Tournament mode.
@ RA_MO
Picking a popular or "high tier" characer won't improve your gameplay necessarily, finding a character that's suited to your style of playing the game is a much better strategy. After you make that decision, complete that character's trials as they serve as training for basic to bread and butter combos.
Dare to pick neglected and "low tier" characters, they're generally more fun to play if more challenging.
how about in endless mode ur able to change ur dam buttons while u wait for the next match???
I think they just need do what #20 & #21 said and also tweak Chun-Li's absurd move recoveries as well. I forgot to mention they need to fix the quick match option as well (It doesn't even work).
@21 hell yea! and if they do that, they should add an option to find certain-sized rooms... forget spectating for 20 minutes if you lose in a larger lobby. I miss vanilla.
Their net code is good, but their interface design and workflows are downright shameful... they could do a lot of small tweaks to make a really enjoyable experience...
- Add a rematch/character change interface in 2-player lobbies... you waste 90 seconds going back to the lobby only to select the same characters and same ultras over again.
- The team battle lobbies are a joke... if 2 guys are waiting in 1 lobby and 2 guys are waiting in another, they may never find a game, but are perfectly suited to be "matched" up.
- You can still do ranked matches with 1 round @ 30 seconds... why?
- You can't change lobby settings after the lobby has been created... you can't close slots or anything... if you find someone you want to have a bunch of matches with, you have to recreate the lobby or be forced to kick people who join.
- The replay management interface is just... sad. It's nice they have it, but it's clunky and feature-less.
- Whose idea was it to just shovel random crappy replays on people. They obviously have the data available, so why not let me find replays of top-ranked C. Viper.
/rant.
Just so everyone knows- the update will likely be out between 4am-7am EST.
They need to include an option to "PASS" if you're up next in Endless Battle and you want to let the next person in line play instead. Right now, you have to wait like a whole minute til your name blinks out.
I thought this was coming out June 21st? At least that is what SRK is reporting....
HEY EVERYONE IT'S ALREADY UP ON PS3 THE TOURNEY PATCH IS ALREADY UP GET IN NOW!!!!
It's already here follks. playing it now. saw the update when i went to go load up.
why no points??????
why animation of the damn slots so long?
Why you have to check others match...?
Capcom are noobs for online gaming..
They should've also added a `Rematch`feature on a non-existing `Player match`feature..
I'm so disapointed.. This tournament thing is same as Endless battle but with a trophy picture in the end..
Congratulations.....Can't wait to collect the titles :(
Why is not like vanilla tournament with ranking, that was insanely fun and exciting. This DLC = crap
Can't join any friggin sessions for some reason. Even the few tournaments i've managed to get in have never finished because disconnections and crap. It's not worth it today at least. Maybe the connections will work better tomorrow. idk whats going on maybe its just me.
a full 8 player tourny lasts like half an hour..
Matches should occur simultanously wtf?
Can't understand what they were thinking
we need to start a petition for championship mode
I have a ps3 and i'm on the east coast.. i download tournament mode about two 1/2 hrs ago. its pretty cool, for right now the only down side is when some when has a weak signal /connection there is a very bad lag durning the matches, viewing or playing.other then that. its cool. a new mode.i like that. did then do the patches on ibuki and the unblockables??????

It's new mode to keep the hype up.i like that.Where the patches on ibuki and the unblockables fixed as well??????
@67
Unlike Ranked Mode, Championship Mode was a matchmaking system with a fixed set of rules, i.e. no 30 second rounds. Lack of point loss just meant that you weren't punished for using a low tier or secondary character. Boosting was impossible in Championship Mode as well because of the bracket system. It was the far superior matchmaking system.

Guy needs a patch? really?
----------------------------------
What don't you get that they are fixing bugs, not buffing characters? The bug let you COMBO into a throw on Guy. Which should be impossible in any circumstances.
I agree with some people here.....
Bring back Championship mode !!!!!!!!!!
This mode seems pointless, its like endless battle, but hey if u win u get crappy trophy, instead of points.
What goes on now ?????? Is Capcom getting lazy ????? Im not one to whine, but come on now.Id gladly pay for more stages, more costumes, more modes, more characters, but Capcom does not seem interested in these ideas !!!!
I realize that what they *aren't* doing, at least at this time, are buffs/nerfs beyond fixing glitches, and I'm fine with that for now.
Should they ever get around to buffing the weaker characters, I have but a single request - Hakan should start the round oiled up.
I've won 4 outta 5 touraments ive been in on psn and I haven't gotten any titles yet....Is there a certain amount I have to win to get these special titles?
This is like watching people comment on the article that they are trying to log into Facebook.
Tournament mode was meant to emulate the experience of playing at the arcade. Instead of playing your matches simultaneously, you watch and chat about the current match. Instead of collecting points, you get the title of champion.
Pushing for the social aspect of arcades into the game is Capcom's way of attracting staunch arcade players in Japan. They relented with the arcade version eventually but development was already well on the way. Grinding championship points just didn't fit into the arcade concept.
I hope to see more support for more players, team tournaments in the future and even double eliminations.
WTF! I live in London and I don't have the update!
Anyone knows when Europe can get the Download ?
Capcom YOU SUCK!
bring back championship this is ok[tournament]but i for one liked the grade system
Available in u.k psn.
Netcode is pretty good in ssf4,if both players only using connection on their ps3 and nothing else.
The funny thing is i hear scrub this scrub that, but when they finally get a player that is good, the only way they can beat them is by scrubbing the players connection so he has no block no combos and has to play 1 hits mostly hk and hp.
@#84
Chat with angry kids and watch 7 matches out of 8? That's less than 10% of play!
Tetris will end up being more exciting. I should get an appointment with my shrink for my ADD medicine!
Sounds like ranked is the only "competitive" choice with absolutely no matchmaking/rules... Ugh. Go endless...
I'm really pleased they've done this but can't help think that an offline version would be more awesome, a la the mode in the old Super Street Fighter or even the one in Smash Bros. Melee ( I know, dirty words... ) which could handle huge numbers but you couldn't switch characters.
I hope, like some others have said, that this is the first step and they plan to expand on it in the future. It would be great online but I would really like to see something included for offline as well.
^^
I shouldn't get up so early... so that's 8 players... 1 match out of 6 - 16% of play.
That's the funniest argument... YES we DID pay for it. The consumer SHOULD bitch about the products he bought if they are not up to the level of quality they should be.
My opinion after playing 2 tourns.
1)I don't know if it's just my connection or something. I can't seem to get in alot of to tourns, EVEn when I can clearly see that the room is half empty.
2)20 to 30mins for 1 tourn with 8 players? why? because the tourn is not going on simultaneously. why?????
I personally think tourn DLC does not meet the hype. It does NOT add anything new to what there is no, just a more tedious team battle with a different look and ofcourse more frustration to sit and sit and wait and wait because it's not going on simultaneously. It should have been included with the disc.
I would prefer a 4 player ENdless battle anyday over this.
btw, have they patched the games yet? or the DLC from yesterday is just the Tourn Mode itself?
thanks
Won my tournament the first time I played. It only took 30 dang minutes to win. WTF?
3 Matches in 30 minutes is not fun.
It was waaaaaaayyyyyy more waiting than playing. I hated sitting there and watching my opponents play. DUMB!
They should have the brackets run themselves at the same time. I can't remember but I think HDR did this and the tournaments ran much faster.
lawl @ GG capcom
Why r u guys mad that they r fixing bugs and giving u stuff for free.
I think a little incentive to play this mode would be worthwhile...like if you win a certain amount of championships u get one of the downloadable costume packs...
If Capcom did that, the lobbies would be on fire!
*another great idea from JerseyFame*
Even if the brackets were played simultaneously, I doubt anyone would actually enjoy tournament mode. What you really should be telling Capcom is that you don't want to socialize online and you only want to grind out points. You only need other players because you need them to lose to you.
omg.. am i the only one here who ENJOYS watching other people play? I mean come on.. if u want to fight all the time the Tournament Mode just isnt designed for u, just shut up and go play ranked or endless with a 2-3 men lobby..
but there are also friends who enjoy playing together and also like to play "competively" without using imagination in endless mode. Tournament Mode is just a little competition without the pressure of losing points or whatever
Bleh... Tournament mode sucks. it's just like endless battle for some reason. I played it once today and I find no incentive in playing the mode any longer. @ 100 JerseyFame has a nice idea going on. Capcom should give tournament winners special free downloadable contents like free costume packs instead of lousy trophies.
Yea yea I know it's a free DLC but c'mon, this better be just a small step towards something much better in the future. I agree with the others, Capcom should expand on the tournament mode and what not and offer some real incentives in the very near future. Otherwise, It's a close to useless addition in my opinion.
Wow, Tournament mode is f*cking awesome! I love seeing the "unable to join session" screen, and with this new mode CAPCOM generously gives me near-unlimited opportunities at viewing it. Whenever I see it, I actually clap my little hands with joy like a retarded child. Mom says the smile on my face takes years off a weary heart's life. Just to make sure that everybody could experience this awesome feature, I made sure I had my console set on DMZ. Yes, even on DMZ you still get to see the "unable to join session" screen, so fret not!
Even better is that Fight Req mode completely disregards whether you want an 8 man or 4 man tourney. This is awesome because I hate having my opinions considered - the implications of being taken seriously are positively frightening to me. So I like that I get placed in useless little 4-man tourneys when I want 8-man tourneys, or have to suffer through scrubby 8-man tourneys when I just wanted a quick "two fights and a spectate" 4-player tourney / distraction from spamming electricity versus the CPU "AI". Thanks for this, too, CAPCOM.
Finally, I really love the Dramatic Lobby Music, but the problem with the "sound test" or OST is that neither have random sounds of people joining, then leaving. Once again, CAPCOM heard my plea and gave me the option to create a Tournament lobby, which features both an excess of Dramatic Lobby Music, and the occasional sounds of people joining and leaving the room. I've been in my lobby for nearly ten minutes now, and while there is only one other person right now, at least six others have joined and left over the course of my endeavour. It's incredible how much yomi CAPCOM showed in their unveiling of this awe-inspiring new way to experience my fighting game!
Best of all, it was a FREE UPDATE, which means that any time I see people criticizing it on the internet, I can remind them that it's literally a crime to criticize anything that's free, and I feel like a smug little king on a throne made of gold when I do that, so basically this is the most exquisite update of any sort I've ever experienced. Who needs safe-on-hit Blanka balls, the option to skip a round in endless, "rematch" in 2-player Endless, any penalty for plug-pulling or having shîtty unreliable internet, or a usable "Quick Match" option? Not me, I'll be ruling the internet from my golden throne of Smug while waiting for this fúcking lobby to fill up!
THANKS CAPCOM FOR THE MOST FANTASTIC UPDATE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED.
PS - CAPCOM, if you listen to the haters and whiners who are probably scrubs because only scrubs whine about free things (source: Wikipedia) and release another patch, please make it give every single character a fake kick. Now THAT is change I can believe in!
I think the patch makes everything more fair. Don't you think so as well?
Yes, my idea of "fair" is throwing Blanka's U2 two frames after Guile does a Sonic Boom and him still being able to block it and punish. My idea of "fair" is Guile's Sonic Hurricane being safe on block. My idea of "fair" is hitting Balrog with an upball and still getting punished. My idea of "fair" is being able to option select block/tech so nobody can hurt me when I need time to think or stare at Cammy's asscrack. My idea of "fair" is rage-quitting whenever I'm about to lose with no penalty, and no "disconnect %" to unfairly warn people who are about to fight me. My idea of "fair" is for Juri players to not bitch about one crappy matchup and for Bison's crappy ultra to be a bit less crappy in one specific situation while preserving such wonderful gameplay features as a halfway intelligent Seth being an auto-win versus Gief and probably Hawk. That, my friends, is the very essence of "fair and balanced fighting game media".
Tournament Mode = Endless mode but with a bronze trophy.
This feels dry and stale, give us a reason to comeback and play.It feels like Capcom just blew off us with this garbage. This is just lazyness no effort dlc package, there no INCENTIVES just a crappy 2.00 $ trophy I could buy at a trophy shop.I hope they bring back Championship mode!!!!!!
Thing that is shocking me is that it takes a very small amount of ressources to include some more online modes.
Plus they had it for SF4 wich means they already have some code they can copy and paste on SSF4..
Ok some guy may like the new mode.. But with a minimum of ressources, imagination and lisening to players suggestion they could improve the online experience alot.
SF4 and Capcom in general is great and I love em but for having worked on game industry (specially on a fighting game) i can tell sometime the producers are just not aware of what players want. And sometime they spend so much time and money on wrong things players dont event want.
CApcom is before its time for SF4 but the online/multiplayer design is kinda noob
You cannot join a match when you can see the match in the lobby list with good connection is because for some strange reason the lobby list displays ALL matches, including those matches that are already in process. So for tournament mode, you of course cannot join a match that is already in process. However, you could do that for Endless. That is why you would have a much higher chance of joining Endless without encountering that ridiculous "unable to join" message. I think this most likely is and oversight by Capcom @_@...
tournament is really fun but it'd be infiniitely better to make a ladder for it as well. Also, they should give the host the option to choose whether he/she wants the tournament run 1 match at a time or run all matches simuteanously. Sometimes I really do NOT want to watch that many matches before I get to play.
Lastly, what they should have done for connectivity display is to show a "relative connection" in a given lobby. A display that measures connectivity against all players in one lobby. Because the biggest problem is not so much the host cannot determine if he/she has laggy guest in the lobby. Everyone may be having great connection with the host but not with each other. It is a huge problem because the host would go ahead with a game thinking it'd be a smooth ride, but because some other people do not have good connection with each other, the whole match becomes unwatchable/unplayable.
So much has been done and yet so much more needs to be done in order to make alot of options worthwhile. The averageness of given option overtime really erode all the joy we initially have.
nigga finally got here
