yep quite unlikely to happen
Posted by alfarin on June 6, 2010 at 12:44 p.m. #5
The issue is that one would have to change it's dimensions - Street Fighter on a 3D field has been proven not to work (EX anyone?), as has Tekken on a 2D field (Tekken 3 GBA). However, if this is true then a LOT of work will have to go into remapping and tweaking existing moves into the chosen dimensions.
And cheers for credit!
Posted by zUkUu on June 6, 2010 at 12:56 p.m. #6
tekken isnt realy 3d, the main concept is still 2d based with the option to "dodge" into the screen. u just change the angle but you still face the opponent every time. 3d fighting game is such things like ehrgeiz.
and think that it would be a new game where characters are tweaked to function.

Posted by Gameplan on June 6, 2010 at 2:34 p.m. #14
Very unlikely, but I'd love the idea. 2d or 3d I don't care, I'm sure Capcom would sort that out eventually, but I think the hardest part would be fusioning both gameplay styles together. Oh well, we can only hope :)

Posted by toshi on June 6, 2010 at 2:56 p.m. #16
I dont understand how this would work anyway. As mentioned, Tekken has side stepping which would not work well in a sf game. Also, it would be pretty unfair that ryu and others have projectiles while tekken characters don't. It really just wouldn't make any sense.

Street Fighter will rape Tekken up the ass
Posted by RaptorJesusDesu on June 6, 2010 at 3:11 p.m. #18
This would just be stupid. Comparatively, Tekken fighters are all just normal fighters. The reason MvC works is because both Capcom and Marvel have plenty of over the top characters. CvSNK obviously works too because they are practically the same type of franchises you're dealing with.
What's exciting about Tekken vs. Street Fighter though? Finally getting to launch Ryu into a juggle combo???
This isn't happening, and even if it was, it'd be a stupid idea.
Posted by TheMasterPlayer on June 6, 2010 at 3:12 p.m. #19
I agree, this is pretty far fetched, even for a rumor. The two fighting games are too different in terms of gameplay, style, characters, controls, etc.. to be even developed into a new game. Now if it was Virtua fighter vs tekken then that would be a different story...

Posted by handsofgod on June 6, 2010 at 3:35 p.m. #23
this is going to happen... 2.5D to much hype not to do it all the fighting games are gonna try and combine to make money... all eyes are on capcom after sf4 it only makes sense for something like this to happen... im not sure if it will be any good but nothing capcom it will! if the game stinks its gonna be a big fried egg on capcom's face! not so much namco as they pretty much stink already... i hope this does work tho im open to all new fighting games but like i said if it stinks then im gonna laugh! but fingers crossed it doesnt just means more bloody time on my p3! oh dear!
Posted by Triforce on June 6, 2010 at 3:41 p.m. #24
They're Capcom. If they've given proper movesets to characters like Zero and Megaman they could definitely pull off the clashing of styles in this.
Also, it's possible that the Tekken chars just a sidestep in the 2-d plane-like Cody's dodge in Alpha or something (if that wouldn't create balance issues)
I still don' think this rumor is true-we'll see. ;-)

Bogus, no way to mix a 3D fighter with 2D. Either way, one side would have to be completely revamped for the game to be in 2 or 3D, and frankly, SF in 3D. Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyy. And even if they made Tekken in 2D, they'd pretty much have to remake everyone's moves.

Posted by ChunLi on June 6, 2010 at 5:47 p.m. #35
Namco X Capcom was REALLY fun, and it was an excellent FF Tactics-style RPG, but when it comes to the nitty-gritty of actual gameplay mashing together between these two franchises, it would CERTAINLY be a project.
If anything, Namco should produce it. The same how in the SvC series, SvC Chaos was produced by Playmore (SNK) and it contained the same mechanics of SF but a twist in terms of art style and gameplay. This same principle could apply to NvC (Namco vs Capcom, lol), or TvSF (Tekken vs Street Fighter, lmao)
They could go both ways with this. They can SF-ify Tekken characters to have Super Moves, EX moves, faster overall, and such. Or, they could have SF characters be juggle based and no projectiles (They could throw some bullsh*it and say SF characters want to fight with skill and strength in a real tournament in the Story...) Although, Karin would feel SO at home in a Tekken game!
It would be a VERY different pace, but I think it has great potential to be a great mash up. I'd say go for it.
Posted by ChunLi on June 6, 2010 at 5:49 p.m. #36
Also, on the 2D/3D fighting differences, it would have to depend on said development styles.

<i>Street Fighter on a 3D field has been proven not to work (EX anyone?)</i>
typical SFEX hate from some kid who's clearly too young to have ever played the game, as evidenced by the fact that you think SF has EVER happened on a 3D field much less in SFEX.
SFEX is SF4 with floatier jumps. super cancels work exactly the same, the focus attack is an advanced version of the guard break that doesnt take meter, and its 100% NOT 3D in terms of gameplay.

Posted by juxtapose on June 6, 2010 at 6:26 p.m. #39
Not only to I agree that the two games probably won't mix well, especially without making sacrifices to gameplay on both sides, but I'm also not ok with Capcom flooding the market with so many IPs in such a short timeframe.
I would rather see them publish 1 or 2 awesome fighters than twice as many mediocre ones.

Posted by chickenwings on June 7, 2010 at 2:18 a.m. #56
the gameplay is too different to make it work. UNless they create something totally original that is niether tekken or sf u would end up having to butcher characters from one system to shoe horn them into another. HIghly doubt this is true but speculating is easy way to kill time inbetween exams.

#5: "Street Fighter on a 3D field has been proven not to work (EX anyone?)"
Street Fighter EX spawned multiple sequels and was overall roughly as successful as Street Fighter III. But the larger point isn't valid because it was essentially a "2.5d" game a la Street Fighter IV. You could not freely move in the third dimension.
I don't believe this rumor and I always have mixed feelings when EventHubs lends legitimacy to rumors instead of waiting to report actual news when it is confirmed.

@65: Why do people keep thinking EX was on a 3d plane? The fact that you think it was means you never played it, and yet you still denounce it as a terrible game. You can't call a game terrible if you never played it.
That said, I certainly wouldn't be upset if this were green-lit. I assume they'd need to make a system completely unique from Tekken and Street Fighter and to put the characters from those series into this game. Worst comes to worst, Capcom would release a bad game that wouldn't hurt anyone (besides Capcom) because if you don't play it, it's almost as if it was never released. On the flip-side, Capcom could turn out a very high-quality game out of it and we'd have something else to play.

NEVER IS NOT POSSIBLE two completetly different world. Is like saying The Yankees(MLG) vs The Patriots (NFL)Both gameplay completely different, they will clash but in a bad way it will never happent unless tekken goes 2.5 which will suck , or SF to 3d which will also suck, or remake another RPG which will again suck NO WAYnit just wont work
Posted by Hrm on June 7, 2010 at 8:13 a.m. #68
Actually, it might be interesting if they do a decent job of combining the systems from the two games, the way they did with the SNK vs Capcom game, althought the SNK systems and Capcom systems were similar enough that they could be combined without much issue...
Who knows.
Posted by sidechar on June 7, 2010 at 8:14 a.m. #69
So which do you prefer, playing Street Fighter character with expanded movelist but lost the ability to do proper jump attack and maybe lost all projectiles? Or Tekken characters with very limited movesets?

btw, a new rival schools and a new darkstalkers both ssf4 style would rock!!!!
Posted by Funkenstein23 on June 7, 2010 at 9:43 a.m. #72
This is fake. Capcom wouldn't announce something that would take away MvC's thunder this early in the game. Not to mention the issue of how many dimensions it would be. Plus, what Tekken fighter could possibly stand up to anyone from SF? SF characters are all super-powered and can teleport and shoot flame from their hands. Tekken characters are relatively normal, if not quirky, martial artists.
Posted by Pusha_T on June 7, 2010 at 9:44 a.m. #73
I have doubts about how a tekken vs street fighter game would work, I can't even be bothered to go into the logistics that would be required to pull it off. With that being said it's a much better idea than SF vs Smash Bros.

i think its funny that we have gone through 80 comments and not a single person mentioned that tekken was at one point a 2.5d game. tekken didnt always have side stepping, and it was a great game. seriously, tekken 2 rocked on so many levels, and even tekken 3 and tag werent 100% full 3d movement like we know tekken and sou calibur to be now.
i'm just saying a 2.5d tekken cast works. if implemented properly, we know non projectile characters can compete (sup balrog, blanka, bison) so taking tekken characters back to their roots wouldnt necessarily destroy their chances of winning.

your opinion on what games are good means nothing to me, its not gonna stop me from enjoying CvS2 on my dreamcast or XvSF on my saturn. if i played any 3D fighters, i would bring one up, but i still think that you are the epitome of ignorance with your baseless assumptions that all fighters of a particular style are garbage.

I dont think it would work well, the 2 are so different.
For it to work you would have to change one of them completely, that kind of defeats the purpose..

A TvC 2 would be AWESOME. But this is one of the worst ideas I've ever heard...NamcoxCapcom worked well cause it was an RPG, but I personally think the vastly different play styles would make this game fall apart. Tekken depends on 3d for it's depth in fighting while Street Fighter is arguably best done in 2d...not to mention that the majority of SF chars have projectile attacks while almost none of the Tekken chars have any type of projectiles. One of the games would have to succumb to the others play style which is just a lil too much IMO. I really hope this is fake.
