A new plot overview for Street Fighter has been posted here on EventHubs.com. This is not an exhaustive list of every story arc in the franchise, instead what you'll find is a few pages of information pointing out important plot arcs that happened within each game.• Street Fighter Alpha (the first game) was officially declared by Capcom to be non-Canon and all of the events in Street Fighter Alpha 2 and 3 take precedence over the first title.
• Alpha 2: Adon challenged and defeated Sagat, but apparently Sagat was too caught up in his recent loss to Ryu, so he didn't fight up to his true potential.
plot of street fighter series= MEH. It started out as crap ill accept it that way, no need for capcom to try and re-salvage it years later as they omit games as part of canon.
I'm still wondering what exactly SSFIV did to Third Strike or vice versa, because the playable and cameo 3S characters in SSFIV (especially Ibuki) seem to do a lot of damage to the timeline as we formerly understood it.
Not that it actually matters, of course. I'm sure future Street Fighter games won't treat "canon" much better.
I didn't know Sagat was reaching out, I always thought Ryu was just trapped and Sagat let his guard down a little. Yeah if I was Sagat I'd want to bash his face in at our next match too, haha. It's not like Ryu ever strait-up apologized, right?
I was hoping there would be more to read, such as the relationship and history between Bison (Dic), Cammy, and Vega (Claw). I guess there just isn't much solid coherent story within the games. Still, it makes sense that there isn't, since the games have mostly focused on the beat-em-up part with little random story snippets as endings.

Is the best place for a real plot overview. I'm not sure they have a central timeline but if you look up a character, you get the most pieced together story that's possible imo.
What about Street Fighter: The Animated Movie and Street Fighter II V!? No Ryu/Ken traveling the globe looking for strong fighters, or Shadoloo robots attacking bars that Dee Jay frequents subsequently getting destroyed by Chun-Li and Guile?
This is all important stuff!
@11 none of them are canon.
IMHO, SF4 doesn't seem to take place at a specific year. I mean, yes, it takes place after SF2 and before SF3...but it seems "yearless"\"timeless" to me.
I love how the Metsu Shoryuken focuses on the chin and Sagat has the scar on a diagonal line across his chest.
I just wish they'd actually try and tell a coherent story with the next series...
the plot of SF has actually gotten better over Years
SF1: Fight in this tourney for no reason other then to become the champ.
SF2(all of them):Everyone had their own little story but seemingly self contained
SFA:Expanding on the story started in SF2 by going back to see what started it, at the same time expanding on SF1 and the aftermath it left.
SF3:Expanding on the returning characters while buliding new ones with Ryu still on the quest to become stronger, and Ken raising his son and training Sean.
SF4:having a very loose story that culminated mainly in the shoto(Anstsuken from what Gouken said in SSF4) storyline of having the fallout of what happened after SSF2's ending with bison and his group.
@THE GODDAMN MASTER
We've only seen Ryu INTENTIONALLY go for the chin remember METSU means it has a murderous intent however from what we've seen Ryu's been able to control it enough only to knock someone out not kill them. The metsu shoryuken they're probably talking about is one he (atleast the Satsui no Hadou)meant to kill Sagat with, which is the reason it went for the chest which if a few inches deeper would have cut him open from gut to collar bone
I sort of figured he hit Sagat with a "non sweet spot" Metsu Shoryuken that you can see in SF4.
well...Cammy is a testube baby, and she was made from bison, which makes her F*cking Awesome which is why i main her. That and she has a Nice ass..Which she wasnt morecut than me and that she had bigger breasts. I'm not a big fan of Lolicon.
SF3 really has nothing to do with the SF universe a few characters to SF4 to shut up the 3 fan girl flamers.
They also forgot to mention. On how Dan wanted revenge. On Sagat for killing his dad
Some SF4 Storyline based off in game stuff:
Ryu + Sakura + Dan + Blanka:
Ryu stands infront of Seth's strange tower thing. Sakura shows up and greets him. Ryu warns her off and dragon punches the device, causing it to explode - this is the only reason the base might be burning in other character's storlyinges. Sakura helps Ryu out as he seems to be out of it after dragon punching.
Dan seems to be running from a huge explosion/wall of fire in the base. Blanka runs into him from a side tunnle and then stops in panic at the fire. The fire is suddenly stopped by two super beams of energy. You see sakura and ryu in the "completed hadouken" pose. Dan humerously poses and claims that they should get out of the base as "even with my awesome power, i won't be able to hold off a second wave". Sakura and Ryu give each other blank looks of confusion.
Blanka's ending sees him reunite with his mother, more confident in himself and not feeling like a freak to the other people of their town.
Note none of these conflict with SSF4 endings. Blanka's is more or less the same with Sakura and Ryu's one showing different events, but nothing that conflicts - they probably just take place at a different time.
Able, Guile, Chun Li, Cammy, Vega (Claw), Bison (Dictator), Seth, C Viper and possibly Balrog (Boxer) are all part of the same general ending sequence, but Seth's ending where he rules the world is most likely non-cannon.
Gouken, Akuma, Ryu and Gen also seem to be part of a show down ending between Gouken and Akuma after Akuma beats Ryu. Most other characters seems to be doing their own thing (like the Luchidor serving some terrible cooking to Honda and Zangief). For the most part, it's all internally consistent, unlike what I saw of alpha 3 where it all seems to be different.
From what I've played of SSf4 (Ryu, Seth, Juri, Hakan, Guy, Cody, Chun Li, Guile) it seems to fit with SF4. A few characters are a bit different in their endings.
If anyone is interested in more detail on characters endings, let me know.
He hadouken(fireballed) it's not Shoryuken(Dragon punched) it.
Seth never ruled the world in his ending he only got Juri under his control in his ending, which makes sense in the context of him getting her under control then her arcade story of killing Seth and maybe killing bision(her rival battle)
Don't forget to include the part where Balrog kills Dhalsim's pet elephant with a single punch.
It's canon. No joke.
