Siliconera caught up with Ryota Niitsuma, Marvel vs. Capcom 3's producer, at Comic-Con to discuss some of the ins and outs of the upcoming game. Can you tell us about the character unlocking system?
Niitsuma: We’re working on that right now. We don’t want to make too many unlockable or hidden characters because it will take away from the game’s balance. Because its the type of game where you have all of these characters to choose from its more fun to be able to choose who you want to use.
I’m not going to rule out there won’t be any unlockable or secret characters, but for the most part we want players to be able to choose characters from the beginning.
In the event that players find bugs or discover unbalanced parts will you release a balance patch?
Niitsuma: First, I’ll try to make sure we don’t need to do that. If a situation did arise we’ll look into trying to patch it.
Have you thought about releasing downloadable characters like BlazBlue?
Niitsuma: I haven’t ruled out the possibility of that. It’s something I’m interested in doing, if possible. I’m looking a lot of other games and seeing how they’re dealing with the [DLC] issue itself. Once I decide on that I’ll make a decision.
unlockable characters are always fun and cool to go through to get, i actually didnt mind in SF4 having to unlock the characters but i can see the point since its a team thing to limit unlockable characters if not just have all available.
On another note character wise im looking forward to dante a ton (im a DMC addict) but if i had one choice for another character that is unrelated to all the revealed ones it would be bayonetta because she has a very wide variety of weapons and moves from the game that opens up tons of options with making a viable and true-to-the-game move list and she is supposed to be fast so she already fits MVC3's pace, also witch time could lead to some pretty cool hyper moves!
I don't think anyone would complain about DLC characters, and it's nice to finally see a dev who embraces the idea of adding characters this way(Unlike Ono).
when producers say stuff about balance patch (except for blizzard) they will only "balance" stuff when it's absurdly broken only.... so, pretty much ssf4 will never have a patch making hakan good for example
someone from power stone please? ...
someone from onimusha please? .. Jacques blanc, samanosuke or the demon lord? .. don't want suki
Hi guys. For those who are interest in Phoenix Wright being included in this game:
Shu Takumi, the creator of Phoenix Wright, has said that even though Phoenix was deconfirmed from the game, if enough fan support is generated, he will fight for a place for him. If we can get word around, everyone's favourite Ace Attorney may be playable in the game!
We have multiple useful links where you can support Phoenix in this topica at Gamefaqs:

If you do anything there at all, sign the petition! Thanks to all who support us!

You don't have to beat everyone's story mode 100%. Just get the "CLEAR" status. Or if you're REALLY that lazy, you could just buy her for 2 bucks.
It's like, I bought this GAME, now I have to WORK all day with this stupid unlock system to play my favorite character. And on the way I have to play the game not in a way that makes me better or have fun, but in a way that makes it so I always win over the CPU. Ugh.
put locked characters on story mode .. but for versus in training leave them unlocked
Bring in Mephisto and Loki they need to be in.
