Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Comic-Con details roundup

Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Comic-Con details roundup

A number of new things about Marvel vs. Capcom 3 were revealed at San Diego Comic-Con. In case you missed it, there was a similar write up last week with additional details that can be found here.

Here's a quick rundown of the new stuff I was able to track down.

• Capcom is thinking about doing a demo for MvC3, but they're not sure what form it would take at this point.

• Seth Killian said the whole cast is almost finalized at this point, but there could be a switch or two.

• It was stated again that the Fantastic Four will not be playable characters.

• Balance issues will not plague Marvel vs. Capcom 3, like they did MvC2.

• Every character in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 will have their own ending in story mode. These endings will feature other characters from the Marvel and Capcom franchises — even people that aren't playable like Ghost Rider and Man-Thing.

• Amaterasu can change her weapon to alter her attacks depending on what she wants to do. She also has a Hyper move that slows down time and makes it possible to land some combos that wouldn't be possible otherwise.

• Felicia currently has the smallest hitbox in the game, even smaller than Amaterasu, so she can walk under certain Hyper moves and attacks.

• Chun-Li has low stamina right now, but her Lightning Legs are great and she has an outstanding rush down game.

• Character themes will be returning. There will be new songs and updated old favorites in the game. Music has a very techno/dance feel to it so far. Some character themes are recycled from older Marvel and Street Fighter games.

• Depending on the characters you choose, they'll say different things to each other — basically, there is team recognition. If you pick a squad made up of The Avengers, there's specific dialogue related to that.

• Seth said it's too early to say for sure if alternative costumes will be in MvC3, but he thought it was a good idea. [Editor's note: Coupled with other statements previously made, this more than likely means they'll be in the game.]

Interesting information. I really can't wait and I am trying to convince one of my friends to get a TE stick just for this game.

so far, I haven't seen ANY comment!
-
Well, I'm sad that the Fantastic Four won't be playable, would be awesome to see them all as one character (like Captain Commando)!

Posted by powderedtoastman on July 28, 2010 at 7:24 a.m. #3

@UnTi super skrull is essentially the fantastic four wrapped into one character

Posted by GCLeague on July 28, 2010 at 7:30 a.m. #4

@3 I agree!!

1) Amat will be BEAST!!

2) Damn You (capcom) and Chun's poor Health

Posted by GCLeague on July 28, 2010 at 7:34 a.m. #5

Ohh yeah forgot..

3) Woooot!! for a possible DEMO!!!

If they are not sure of Demo... How's about the obvious:
Limited characters ( as they do now)
limited Hyper/ or limited Meter
maybe just versus mode?

Posted by shurf on July 28, 2010 at 7:35 a.m. #6

"Balance issues will not plague Marvel vs. Capcom 3, like they did MvC2."

Pretty big statement there, Capcom. I'll give the community a month after the game's release to find some sort of gdlk broken exploit.

Posted by Realpolitik on July 28, 2010 at 7:44 a.m. #7

WHAT!? Man-Thing isn't playable?

Posted by halo on July 28, 2010 at 7:51 a.m. #8

Bummer for Ghost-Rider and Man-Thing but hey, it all still sounds fantastic!

wonder if the reason they think it wont have balance problems is because they plan to do a new character/balance update like with Super.

Posted by jon on July 28, 2010 at 8:29 a.m. #11

at this stage of the game could character roster changes happen? I don't know how long it takes to create a character from scratch, but I'd think it be a substantial amount of time unless it's a subtle way of saying "we are deciding who will be on disk and who would be DLC"?

Posted by Clovr4Lyf on July 28, 2010 at 9:04 a.m. #12

Fantastic Four will not be playable...however mr. fantastic himself...?

Posted by fineyoungcanibal on July 28, 2010 at 9:26 a.m. #13

I like how saiferoth goes in every MvC post and writes comments linking to SFvT. Totally relevant.

Posted by EmeraldFont on July 28, 2010 at 9:29 a.m. #14

"Seth Killian said the whole cast is almost finalized at this point, but there could be a switch or two."

Then it's not too late to listen to the fans and put Gene in! Make this happen, Capcom! We're already flooding your suggestion box at Capcom unity, don't make us flood your offices!

Posted by MrPavy on July 28, 2010 at 9:40 a.m. #15

thats because that moron spamming SF X TK has 6 different accounts and all he does is get views

Posted by Jarkyttaa on July 28, 2010 at 9:50 a.m. #16

@12: No members of the Fantastic Four at all.

@Catalyst: It would probably be nice if you included the list of characters that were debunked by the producer during his demo the first night.

Posted by jesuslovessatan on July 28, 2010 at 9:50 a.m. #17

@14 cant beleive your still fighting for gene. its over.

just waiting to see the way magneto looks. he has to be in this. that origins movie is still coming out.

Posted by Cortez on July 28, 2010 at 9:59 a.m. #18

@Clovr4Lyf: None of the F4 are in the game, that's why Super-Skrull is in the game.

@EdmeraldFont: He's not in the game, let it go. Wait for him in another vs series.

And flod the offices? There aren't that many Godhand fans.

Posted by SaitoKojima on July 28, 2010 at 10:14 a.m. #19

Only character I'm hoping for now is SS Rockman or anyone from ZX. -_-

I personally, DON'T, want Rockman X in MvC3. For one, to spite all the retards going "ZOMG WE WANT EKKUSU!", and two, the X series has gotten enough fair share of treatment. ZX and SSR have gotten literally nothing except for their games and that's it. (They only got two for ZX and three for SSR)

The only thing I see with ZX in terms of "treatment" is the fans making really amazing custom model figures of the characters, at places like Wonder Festival and so on. :/

Posted by SamJay123 on July 28, 2010 at 10:15 a.m. #20

plz put a demo PLZ

Wolverine----Ryu
Dante----Deadpool
IronMan----Chris

Posted by Hrm on July 28, 2010 at 10:17 a.m. #21

I'm curious how Amaterasu's weapon change will work. Based on the video, it seems like whatever the weapon change command is, it cycles through weapons instead of changing weapon based on which button you press. Maybe it that thing they mentioned where you hold down and press all three attack buttons.

Posted by waynehead895 on July 28, 2010 at 10:24 a.m. #22

Super-Skrull is like having the Fantastic Four in one character. Only evil.

Posted by SaitoKojima on July 28, 2010 at 10:37 a.m. #23

@21

I think Ammy's weapon change is going to be like Rock Volnutt's in TvC.
Least, that's what it looks like to me.

Posted by Teh_5_Point_Ohh on July 28, 2010 at 10:41 a.m. #24

Skrull took out 80% of chun li's life and others in one combo stroke and that's w/o a power up (ex. juggernaut collussus rogue). Thats 20% away from death. If you ask me that's unbalanced.

Posted by Gurou_Kun on July 28, 2010 at 10:50 a.m. #25

Honestly, I'm rooting for classic Megaman, all Volnutt has going for him is that retarded machinegun super, and now that both Deadpool and Dante have one theres just no need for him

Posted by xShonuffx on July 28, 2010 at 10:51 a.m. #26

#14

OMG give it up. I'd rather have servbot than Gene. Jeez.

And Capcom whats with the low health thing with women man, sexist bastards. I want my woman to cook and clean for me but she MUST have a LOT of stamina to make me happy.

Posted by Ichiban on July 28, 2010 at 11:12 a.m. #27

#24

The game isn't finished yet

Posted by Ichiban on July 28, 2010 at 11:17 a.m. #28

Also I don't get why people are groaning so hard at someone still wanting Gene in the game when there's idiots who still think any members of the Fantastic Four will be in the game after countless statements from Capcom to the contrary AND Super Skrull's confirmation

Posted by pawn080 on July 28, 2010 at 11:23 a.m. #29

@ #24

I asked Seth over the SDCC stream if he thought Super Skrull was overpowered he said basically... "of all the characters in the game I wouldn't worry about skrull being overpowered." So it's safe to say... there will be more powerful guys added to the roster. Plus like @Ichiban said... the games not finished.

Posted by omegax9000 on July 28, 2010 at 11:27 a.m. #30

GIve us HOB GOBLIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Meety on July 28, 2010 at 11:32 a.m. #31

hope they make a demo cuz we all wanna try deadpool nd dante n da game

Posted by Jarkyttaa on July 28, 2010 at 11:51 a.m. #32

@24 and 29: Not only is the game over a year out, but Chun-Li has admittedly a small health pool. So the combination of her health pool and Skrull's damage not being tweaked exaggerates how unbalanced it actually is. In SSFIV, several characters can shave off ~50%+ off of Seth's health without super unique/tough set-ups, and he's still mid-tier. I imagine during testing, many people could do 80% without much trouble before final damage tweaks were put in.

Posted by Sektah84 on July 28, 2010 at 11:52 a.m. #33

Demo please!!!!!!!!!!! Idk care if it's exclusive to ps3 or 360 I own both it's not a problem!!!!! Give me a demo capcom! I agree with @20 that be perfect!

Posted by JupiterJazz2655 on July 28, 2010 at 12:30 p.m. #34

please give a demo!! it would be such a smart move on the company's behalf and it would hold people overthe relase, i dont understand what the problem would be in doing this since there are obviously disc builds of this that they are using at tournaments. PLEASE CAPCOM I'M GETTING TIRED OF WATCHING YOUTUBVBE VIDS WISHING I WAS AT THESE CONVENTIONS lol

Posted by sephirothclone on July 28, 2010 at 12:32 p.m. #35

I asked Seth as Comic Con about balancing issues of the characters, and he simply replied that the game still has a ways to go, and comparing the balancing to MvC2 is much better than that.

He admits players will find the most viable character/team, yes...but it will still be much more balanced compared to MvC2.

And...he really wanted fans to try out Thor and Amateratsu since the characters were just announced.

Either way...demoing MvC3 was fun as hell! Can't wait.

Posted by Cornwad on July 28, 2010 at 12:34 p.m. #36

Man-Thing isn't in? Well I guess I'm not buying this game anymore.

Posted by fabfred on July 28, 2010 at 12:48 p.m. #37

one again capcom has screwed up because li's air super once again is not in marvel i hope they plan on changing that, but i doubt it,

Posted by Catalyst on July 28, 2010 at 1:01 p.m. #38

@Jarkyttaa

Those were included in a write up last week, here's a link to it. I'll also add this link into the article as well.

Posted by Jarkyttaa on July 28, 2010 at 1:10 p.m. #40

@Catalyst, I know you posted it before, I just that it'd be nice for this post to be a one-stop shop for MvC3 Comic-con info. Looks good.

Posted by Catalyst on July 28, 2010 at 1:11 p.m. #41

@Jarkyttaa

Good thinking. Makes perfect sense.

Posted by Triforce on July 28, 2010 at 1:14 p.m. #42

I still have hope for Phoenix also, being DLC at least...because I think the flash source leaked list is true (Tron Bonne over Phoenix?!):-(

Posted by Jarkyttaa on July 28, 2010 at 1:22 p.m. #43

The flash source "leak" was confirmed to be fake when Amaterasu was confirmed. There are no leaked lists that haven't been debunked by character announcements.

Posted by Cornwad on July 28, 2010 at 1:29 p.m. #44

Not to mention that you were talking about the clearly fake from the start list that had She-Hulk on it Triforce.

Posted by Teh_5_Point_Ohh on July 28, 2010 at 1:42 p.m. #45

Yeah I understand the game isn't finished yet but if their leaving it "as is" then that's very unbalanced to me.

In any case, it's kind of hard to say its gonna be more balanced than Mvc2 because there is still gonna be abused moves like in Mvc2. They can limit the power or slow down a move but an abused move is an abused move.

Posted by Teh_5_Point_Ohh on July 28, 2010 at 1:44 p.m. #46

I do look foward to playing the demo so I can give my final judgment on it.

But it's Marvel, Capcom has my dirty money already!! Lol

Posted by J on July 28, 2010 at 1:51 p.m. #47

Oki alternate costume for Amaterasu? :P

Posted by Jarkyttaa on July 28, 2010 at 2:35 p.m. #48

@45: They added the hit-stun reduction over long combos, so infinites are gone. Also, they're getting rid of other mechanics that made some characters (Storm, Magneto to an extent) broken, like building meter on whiffed specials.

Even though it has a different producer, I think Capcom learned a lot about balance in SFIV. Look at SFIII -> SFIV. Also, Capcom reps have been pretty consistent on stressing balance fixes for this game vs. MvC2. SSFIV is probably easily the most balanced Capcom fighter to date (probably),and I expect some of the lessons they learned to be seen in MvC3. I won't expect it to be as balanced as SSFIV, as it's just a much harder system to balance (mixing/matching assists, etc), but I'd be very surprised if it wasn't significantly more balanced across the roster than MvC2.

Posted by rawenergy on July 28, 2010 at 2:40 p.m. #49

i hope phoenix wright makes the cut.

Posted by Deadds on July 28, 2010 at 2:41 p.m. #50

Amaterasu's alt-costume should be her human form.

Posted by J on July 28, 2010 at 2:44 p.m. #51

@51

Ammy doesn't have an (official) human form. Not that it could ever work though, considering hitboxes and animations etc.

Posted by omegax9000 on July 28, 2010 at 3:09 p.m. #52

2011 year of the hob goblin!!!!make it happen!!!

Posted by Cortez on July 28, 2010 at 4:28 p.m. #53

@omegagax900

Screw the Hobgoblin, he isn't being used and hasn't been used in years.

It should bee the Green Goblin that makes it in, especially after the big role he played in the Marvel Universe.

@Triforce: That list was proven fake and Nitsuma said Wright won't be in.

Posted by Cornwad on July 28, 2010 at 4:52 p.m. #54

@54
The new Spiderman comics are going to bring the Hobgoblin back. It was announced at ComicCon.

Posted by johnsonic7 on July 28, 2010 at 7:18 p.m. #55

@ #6 Not really a big statement considering how unbalanced MvC2 was. Plus if there is a problem they will patch it.

Posted by Teh_5_Point_Ohh on July 28, 2010 at 10:16 p.m. #56

#48

Inifintes were cool to get off but they didn't take off that much.

I do agree with you on SF4 being the most balanced fighting game they came out with. I think they felt sorry for Guile in SF4 so they powered him up in SSF4. His moves take off more and his recovery time after moves is just unreal.

Off topic.

Who agrees that they should put Skullomania in Mvc3?

Posted by popscythe on July 29, 2010 at 3:38 a.m. #57

the vs series : fighting games
chocolate syrup : strawberry ice cream

"completely unnecessary"

Posted by canabalistic999 on July 29, 2010 at 3:42 a.m. #58

its no where near the final build character balance wise yet, so capcom can and will definitely fix most imbalances that would deem characters or teams god tier. especially with how close attention they have been paying to balance, but it is always obvious that there will always be bad and good matchups and a few or more abuse-able moves there always are but there is no way it will be so imbalanced that it ends up like MVC2 or has trash characters or god characters.

Posted by Cortez on July 29, 2010 at 9:08 a.m. #59

@Corwad: You might want to read again, it isn't the Hobgoblin(not the one everyone knows).

Either way the Green Goblin would till be a better choice. He has actually gotten things done while Hobby hasn't been used in years

@Tehh_5_Point_Ohh

Posted by Cortez on July 29, 2010 at 9:09 a.m. #60

@Tehh_5_Point_Ohh: Skullomania isn't owned by Capcom, he's owned by Akira.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooh well
