Arturo vs. Daigo, Super Street Fighter 4 rematch

Another money match that was held at the Salty Suite was a run back of Arturo "Sabin" Sanchez (Dhalsim) vs. Daigo Umehara (Ryu).

Arturo infamously beat Daigo in a similar match last year during the EVO 2009 weekend, something that was talked about for months after the fact. Top Japanese players Eita and Tokido step behind the mic to provide commentary for this one.

Here are the clips courtesy of Gootecks.

Nice

That's a Dirty Sanchez right there!

6-4 Sim you guys think? I don't mean to take anything away from the man Arturo, but you could see how hard the world's best Ryu had to work just to break-even in terms of damage. And we all know what happened when he went up against a .jp Sim just a couple of days afterwards.

Posted by mrdrofficer on July 28, 2010 at 1:28 p.m. #4

Arturo looks physically dazed. And daigo is still rocking those wack-track pajamas from the Darkstalker days.

Damn that was some good stuff
.

Posted by SmoothJK on July 28, 2010 at 1:34 p.m. #6

#3 I would say Sim definitely has an advantage. Ryu has to take a lot of educated guesses to get his damage in.

That match was nutz!!! that was mentally exhausting just watching it and i mean that in a good way. Great matches!!!

I really enjoyed the commentary by Tokido and Eita, it was nice to hear their thoughts on the match.

Posted by Nyoronoru on July 28, 2010 at 1:39 p.m. #9

Yes, I did see a video of this earlier (not in HD), and I can confidently say that Ryu finally has a bad matchup.

Salty Suite > Evo

Evo had it's upsets, but it seems like the Suite had better matches.

"I saw, I came, I hadoken." --Chris Hu

That was hilarious!

Daigo clutches it again.

Posted by TheShotokan on July 28, 2010 at 3:32 p.m. #20

MAN DAIGO IS CLEARLY, WITHOUT ANY EFFING DOUBT THE VERY BEST BEING AT THE ACME OF SF SKILLS. JUST LOOK A BAD MATCH UP, EVERY PLAYER GOING FOR HIS NECK, AND THEY HAVE ALL SEEN HIS MOVES. MAN O MAN DHALSIM IS SUCH A LAZY USERS CHARACTER OBVIOUSLY -_-. THIER IS NOT ONE GOOD DHALSIM IN THE WORLD. JUST LAZY PLAYERS WHO LIKE PRESSING 2 BUTTONS THE ENTIRE FIGHT. EVEN THE PLAYERS WHO MAIN DHALSIM GET BORED WITH HIM IN MY HEART I KNOW THIS. DAIGO HAS TO DO SO MUCH AGAINST PROBABLY THE MOST FACILE, AND EXECRABLE CHARACTER IN SF. SO YEA IT'S ALL TRUTH DEAL, DAIGO IS THE VERY BEST. I CAN'T STAND WHEN PPL DON'T GIVE THIS MAN HIS CREDIT. THEY SO OH, DAIGO JUST GOT BESTED BY THE DHALSIM NOOO!!!!! TRANSIENT BRAINS DHALSIM JUST USES 3 to 4 BUTTONS DUH!!!!!.

Posted by KAZZNORE on July 28, 2010 at 4:01 p.m. #22

Stupid dik sucker Daigo gets own all the fawking time in jap turneyaments, so what makes you think hes the very best? hes known but no the best not even close.

Clov4lyf is that you?? lol

Posted by ubervillain on July 28, 2010 at 4:26 p.m. #24

That was just too good! Daigo and Sabin are so top-tier, it's ridiculous. Kudos to Daigo for being so clutch.

Posted by Cornwad on July 28, 2010 at 4:31 p.m. #25

Ryu is so boring to watch.

Posted by dvnt on July 28, 2010 at 4:34 p.m. #26

@25
What is so entertaining about Chris Hu? He speaks broken english and barely commentates the matches. Sure, he has a funny foreign accent, but the novelty fades away quickly. I was more entertained listening to the Japanese people in this video while reading the text.

Posted by coolavr on July 28, 2010 at 4:52 p.m. #27

More like Dhalsim is so boring to watch, all the action and great comebacks were from Ryu. Anyway, is really rare to see Daigo choke a FADC like at the end, still won but damn that was a huge risk.

Posted by TheMasterPlayer on July 28, 2010 at 5:13 p.m. #28

So how much was the money match between Arturo and Daigo?

oh and on a side note, either Arturo was just about ready to cry when he was being interviewed by gootecks or he was just really really tired. I go with the former, lol.

Posted by GCLeague on July 28, 2010 at 5:31 p.m. #29

I was on the edge of my seat!!

Posted by bananainsaneface on July 28, 2010 at 5:36 p.m. #30

The match was for $500. BTW this is Ryu's hardest match up in case you couldn't tell. As a Ryu player this match frustrated me the most in SF4 and now that Dhalsim got buffed and Ryu got nerfed in Super its even worse.

Posted by barcaxavi on July 28, 2010 at 5:40 p.m. #31

That's the best match of the year for me. Arturo's Dhalsim is really getting to a whole another level. All this people saying that Daigo is invincible and in a god status should just come back to earth and see all the mistakes the guy did in the match. If anything the match was tied in skill. Still, rememember that its 1-1 and we'll have to wait for next EVO for the next showoff.

Posted by BisonBetterBeGoodInSSF4 on July 28, 2010 at 6:40 p.m. #32

i think in a Ryu vs Dhalsim match, you will see the most trading lol

Posted by Hitstick on July 28, 2010 at 6:41 p.m. #33

This is old why is this being shown again?
Daigo GOT beat in Japan..keep up with current events people.

Posted by tensai on July 28, 2010 at 6:50 p.m. #34

lol daigo kinda looks like bruce lee from that angle and poor camera quality.

Posted by loasdblopp on July 28, 2010 at 7 p.m. #35

I like that even if Ryu is the so balanced character(not the top tier though), he have such a bad matchup, because in the tourneys, even if you are Daigo, you still have a chance to be eliminated.
And for the vid, Arturo is really good sim player, but he make many bad decisions against ryu... maybe it's Daigo effect, and he gettin nervous or something.
YHCmochi vs Daigo bo10 set is the best example of how Sim can deal with Ryu, i hope Sabin will learn some lessons from it, and at the next evo beat daigo with 5-0 score for 1000$ money match.

Posted by bananainsaneface on July 28, 2010 at 7:27 p.m. #36

Sim can deal with Ryu pretty easily. All he has to do is back roundhouse and standing fierce all day. The Ryu player doesn't have a safe way to get in on Sim and has to take a lot of risks.

Posted by IrPanda on July 28, 2010 at 7:28 p.m. #37

@34
I would disagree in that the match was tied in skill, diago is a more well rounded fighter imo ( not a fan of him doh pefer J.W).
And Sabin was just plain cheesy with his zoning and 0 combo attempts, i would of liked to see him to a flame after he connected s.mk from up close.

Posted by Kuya117 on July 28, 2010 at 7:47 p.m. #38

Daigo says "I like pizza not curry?" lol that was funny but i dont get it.

Posted by DarkBurialX on July 28, 2010 at 8:07 p.m. #39

That was a great match. The match was intense and exhausting.

Posted by xnj on July 28, 2010 at 8:17 p.m. #40

lol Arturo has no respect for Daigo. "Has Daigo improved at all?" "No, he's just basically doing the same thing, I frozed up." Man, I hate Arturo. And what's with that stupid face expression when he was being interviewed, it's like he's going to eat Gootecks.

Posted by Quezacoatl on July 28, 2010 at 8:24 p.m. #41

Hint: Curry is Indian food. Dhalsim is an Indian man. Plus, it was a joke from the commentators...

And my head exploded a few times. I knew Daigo would take it but I never imagined it would be this close. After 4-3 and 1-0 in rounds, my head exploded a several times.

Dhalsim... I don't know what to think about him. Love him for being so special but sometimes I just hate to watch him zoning like mad. Props to both players tho, sick skills from both. *heads explodes once again*

Posted by Hitstick on July 28, 2010 at 8:25 p.m. #42

Arturo sanchez was salty because he was bragging about how he got daigo the first time...Lesson people it pays to be humble instead of getting humbled

Posted by Arroz_con_hadoken on July 28, 2010 at 8:29 p.m. #43

@ #43

That was the face of a man holding back tears. Great game by both players but that dude looked like he woke up on Christmas morning with no presents.

Posted by MascotRay on July 28, 2010 at 10:27 p.m. #46

@24

There's some amazing players out there that could arguably be considered the best, but to say Daigo is "not even close" to the best is just stupid.

Anyway, awesome match.

Posted by AC4A on July 28, 2010 at 10:35 p.m. #47

So, i know Sabin didn't win. But lets call this the match of 2010.

The match in 2009 was also boring as heck and that was "Match of 2009"

Why not? "MATCH OF 2010"

Now Daigo just has to write a guide

Posted by OG on July 28, 2010 at 10:55 p.m. #48

Wow, some clutch moments by Daigo.

If you're going to use the word 'salty', you might as well use it correctly... it means 'bitter'

Posted by VegaBisonAbel on July 29, 2010 at 1:15 a.m. #51

i would be salty too if daigo beat me and I knew what I did wrong. It's just human nature to hate on yer opponent a bit after a loss.

Posted by Morgan24 on July 29, 2010 at 5:26 a.m. #54

Sabin is a very good player it but he was playing so defensively that first match even though Daigo won it was annoying the hell out of me. It must suck to be Daigo sometime s its like if he loses everyone is stunned.

Posted by RoKtheReaper on July 29, 2010 at 5:37 a.m. #55

People can say what they want, but Daigo to me, is good. Plays both aggressive and defensive and gives a show with his skills. A lot of people were talking about how Justin Wong was going to win, but he didn't. Daigo stayed with Ryu despite his "nerfs" and has shown he has mastered his character.

Dhalsim, on the other hand. I hate the way Sabin plays. I have fought him myself before and I can honestly say that Dhalsim is a puss character. All you do is run! I take it you have to be good at running, but still, it's like playing against Team Duc in MvC 2, or how Sanford Kelly used cable in Evo 2k9, it's annoying as hell.

Posted by ubervillain on July 29, 2010 at 6:23 a.m. #56

@RoktheReaper:

Oh yes, if only Capcom had taken away all his long range pokes and given him more speed and multiple hit combos yeah? Make him more shoto-like yeah?

Stop hating Sim man. It's a character design and a different fight style that appeals to certain people. That's the beauty of the game. You've gotta appreciate Sabin's play. Think about it. The skill and concentration to keep a beast like Daigo away is one to be admired. Sabin really pushed Daigo's offensive game to the limit - you could see how relieved and satisfied Daigo was at the end.

Posted by handsofgod on July 29, 2010 at 6:39 a.m. #57

daigo is the best even in japan, even in jap interviews they all say daigo is the one to beat, regardless if he doesnt win in jap tourney's. jap tourney's are very open different people winning all the time its because of their tourney rules 1 game elimination.

i watched this match live... best match i've seen!

sims is not a cheap char very technical and skilled, takes a lot for a ryu to take damage let alone a win. I enjoy playing against sim's makes me work my socks off! but when i loose i think fuc.king cheap cu.nt lol but thats just me being salty!!!! but deep down i know sims is a solid char!

a point i want to point out just because you see daigo loosing on youtube do try and take it with a pinch of salt most matches uploaded with daigo are matches that he looses as most people who beat him will upload them. and its always good to see the beast loose lol

and you must remember daigo will use a lot of matches online to practice and learn play skills and match ups thats pretty basic even i do that.

when people say daigo isn't the best i think there pretty wrong he is the strongest player in this sf4 series but yes he will lose he isn't the best to the point where he dominates everyone but overall he wins a lot and has some crazy reactions links reads and some serious clutches!!!!

i am a daigo fan and yes he will get raped and perfected but i think overall he is the best when it comes to overall knowledge and skill.

long live street fighter!

Posted by Mafamaticks on July 29, 2010 at 8:05 a.m. #60

Very smart play from both to say the least. This was one of the best matches if not the best match in 2010.

If anybody is watching this match for flashy combos y'all watching for the wrong reasons.

Posted by cuzzo on July 29, 2010 at 8:10 a.m. #61

is it just me or did Arturo look like he wanted to eat Gootecks? O.o and I like how Daigo's dick was staring us in the face lls xD

Posted by McBison on July 29, 2010 at 8:25 a.m. #62

Damn #56, why make a fuss over something unimportant? Why dont you try moving to another country and try speaking their native language? Learning a new language aint easy. I give Chris props for being confident in speaking a second language. Most people at his level would be too covered in fear to speak in front of people. Your bothered because his English sounds horrible, he tries to hard to be cool and people d1ck ride him? Thats the most retarded thing Ive ever heard. Just your opinion though but hey, I just dont give a f*ck so dont be butthurt ok? ok? Yea, Im hella cool....

@56 nigga quit hating already. about 90% of your comments are trash talk. fukin troll step off already. chris hu is just a cool muthafukar to have on the mic.

i do agree that arturo looks like a creep at the end though. he keeps staring down gootecks with those truckee river killer eyes. maybe just without his glasses.

Posted by RandomJohn on July 29, 2010 at 10:34 a.m. #66

Although I disagree with most of what #56 said, I do agree the fact Chris Hu sounds like he's trying way too hard to be cool or something. All that cursing in his commentary reminds me of middle school when kids curse just to grab attention or to be cool (because they sound like bad boy or something like that). IMO, people who casually curses like in Chris' commentary makes you an arrogant person in general. You can have random people (who doesn't drop the F-bomb in every other sentence)judge and see what happens. Anyway back to the topic, on an occasion, Chris would say something stupid that no one responds to so he repeats it over and over and over again. For example, when Daigo made that incredible comeback towards the last few matches, Chris said "he lived, he came and he shoruyken." He said it like three times and NO ONE respond to it nor laughed at it. Seriously dude (not hating you as a person), cut back on that stuff. It makes you look like a fool.

anyone see the best of 10 mochi vs daigo? daigo got raped.. no wonder why sanchez was hating on him during the whole set.. he choked hard and still shows no respect for him..
its been awhile since i've seen daigo win any japan tournaments, yet he wasn't even put into the losers bracket at evo.. i think japan's skill level is still too much for the US players.. it'll be interesting to see how many US players make top 8 at at Evo Japan..

Posted by JerseyFame on July 29, 2010 at 12:24 p.m. #69

@#28

Blame option select for that. SF matches are getting boring because these guys play "safe ball" for 99 seconds. Remove option select and the game will immediately improve on fun factor and interest in watching matches. The variables have been minimized do to option selecting. Believe me. Remove the safe "just defense" system and the oohs and ahhs of ALL ONLOOKERS will return. Not just the worshipping fanboys. Simply because calculated risks will matter again. Not safe inputs and system responses.

Posted by JasonLee on July 29, 2010 at 1:40 p.m. #70

For the record, Chris Hu was drunk during the Salty Suite.

This wasn't pro commentary. It was for fun. So I wouldn't expect much else from it.

Clearly people respect Chris Hu's color commentary or he wouldn't be doing it. Gootecks makes a living off these videos so If he didn't think it was worthwhile he wouldn't have bothered.

As far as I'm concerned Chris Hu is the best color commentator and Seth Killian is the best straight up.

All others don't compare.

whats being black got to do to with anything man???

Posted by McBison on July 29, 2010 at 6:37 p.m. #72

Lmao if Im a crying b1tch as you say then what are you? Crying about how horrible his English is with how cool he tries to sound. Still sounds hella retarded. You swear up and down that you know the guy. I dont know him either. So hes trying to sound cool, thats just your biased viewpoint. Chris just makes me laugh, to bad for you he just makes you angry. Why be so uptight?
So English is your second language? If thats true then it sounds like your just looking down on him cause your better at handling this second language. Oh crap, I just pulled that one out of my a$$1! hahaha the internet is just full of fools no?

Posted by INS on July 29, 2010 at 8:17 p.m. #74

Watching Sabins Dhalsim reminds me of watching a match in UFC when two guys fight for position on the ground (aka the hugging game). I get the technical aspects of it and I understand the skill involved, but its not enjoable to watch.

Chris Hu is okay, but his commentary gets tiresome after a few rounds. eg it was funny the first time but annoying the tenth time.

Posted by waynehead895 on July 30, 2010 at 12:58 p.m. #75

80 is spot on with the UFC Reference.

Posted by bananainsaneface on July 30, 2010 at 3:43 p.m. #76

I think Chris Hu is funny a lot of people do and if you don't thats fine people's sense of humor are different. I also think Chris Hu gives very insightful commentary on the game as well. He is one of the top Ryu players and he knows his stuff I think thats what I value the most out of his commentary.

So if DiasFlac0g sais it, it must be true. Case closed. Hell, I like thick girls, but some like them skinny...I prefer underground hiphop over mainstream for the most part, Im not gonna tell people ppl what they should like/dislike! See my point? Naw, your too ignorant or either your just trying to piss people off. Nobody is butt hurt or stressing here. ITS THE F-ING INTERNET!! I highly doubt you would act or say such things in public. You got that internet shield homie haha. Jeez we are just wasting our time chatting here. Back to SSF4

Posted by mr_e on July 31, 2010 at 4:44 a.m. #78

good stuff. they both gaveit there all. to all the sim haters & those who look down at defensive players....it takes skill to zone & defend well. is it flashy? no. does it get the job done? yes. its not real easy to keep someone at bay effectively with dhalsim. takes a lot of practice & knowledge of your characters ranged attacks. which attack to use at what distance. its like usin a revolver. u gotta get the feel of it. also dhalsim's not known for awesome combos...he's know for superior ranged defense.

Posted by BWBoyToucher on July 31, 2010 at 10:29 a.m. #79

Chris Hu is the worst commentator. Look at me, I'm Chris Hu, I can't speak English and like to force out zany Maddenisms every five seconds. I am to Street Fighter what Joe Theismann was to Monday Night Football. Did I mention I can't speak English? Yeah, no biggie, just my ~Zany Character Quirk~.

Listening to him is seriously like watching your little sister play Super SF2 on the SNES with the CPU difficulty set at one star.
