In a move that might potentially make a lot of fans happy, Capcom seems to be open to using GGPO with Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition — or at least they're not ruling it out completely. All I want in Street Fighter 3 Third Strike Online Edition is GGPO.
Ono: Maybe [we will] use it. :)
Will Third Strike Online use GGPO? Also, who's developing this?
Sven: We'll provide more details about the game, its planned features and more in the coming months. It's still pretty far away.
Do you guys need feedback on what we want to see in the game?
Sven: We've got a pretty good idea of what we're making but please do share your ideas.

GGPO in 3S would be awesome.
Posted by Catalyst on July 25, 2010 at 5:46 a.m. #2
It seems like GGPO is a very legit option for SF3 Online. The fact they didn't outright say it wouldn't be in, at this point, is a really good sign IMO.

Ok this would made 3S win all over again
Posted by freekill on July 25, 2010 at 6:01 a.m. #5
of course they dont say "no" right away.. just to have more options, there was an article about that kind of answer a few days ago .. >.>
but it would make sense to use ggpo because of the parry system, and with everyone complaining about lag in ssf4, no one would play sf3 online => no more money for capcom
I just hope they get a clever method to handle that lag issue and release it soon.. i want to play 3S, never had before and after seeing Makoto in SSF4 i want to try her out in 3s ^^

Remove yung and yang?
What? Like i'm the only person who hates them!
Posted by Keepy989 on July 25, 2010 at 6:54 a.m. #9
No, it's just to stupid to remove 2 of the characters that were in the first version of Street Fighter 3, that would be like removing Ryu or Chun-Li in Super Street Fighter 2
Posted by Syl on July 25, 2010 at 7:03 a.m. #10
what about balancing the game?
Posted by pinoy929 on July 25, 2010 at 7:22 a.m. #11
@Syl
That is my concern over anything as well. As much as I love me some 3s, Chun/Yun/Ken is the worst.
Posted by Doktor42 on July 25, 2010 at 7:22 a.m. #12
Balance is pretty much the only thing that needs to be changed in 3S.
Posted by AnBear on July 25, 2010 at 7:28 a.m. #13
Street Fighter 3rd Strike WILL use GGPO. They have been listening to the fan base forever. And they did say that they wanted to do it right.

Posted by AnBear on July 25, 2010 at 7:35 a.m. #15
I don't know why everyone wants this game to be rebalanced. If they fixed Chun and Yun, the game would probably suck, since Ken has the other super art that takes so little to charge.
Posted by akumous on July 25, 2010 at 8:04 a.m. #16
Take your dear sweet time with this capcom..Make sure you have the coding right, the online play right, and just a little courtesy to the fans, updated HD graphics.
Posted by Paine on July 25, 2010 at 8:52 a.m. #17
I don't want any rebalancing so when the game comes out, they pick Yun and see how technical a top tier character is. I play Ibuki, Q, and Makoto in that order and I have to say I never get mad about fighting Yun or Chun-li. I know I lost legitimately and need to get better. Good players are just going to be good. This really is the only game I never cry BS over besides when I get full parried SA1 of Ibuki when I just wanted some chip :(

^^^^ you deserve that so much
Posted by SteadiestShark on July 25, 2010 at 8:57 a.m. #19
BALANCE THE DAMNED GAME.
Chun, Yun and Ken are slightly too good - and many of the others are slightly too weak. (Slightly may be understating things)
Nerfing Genei Jin would only effect the top levels of play anyway, since most lesser Yuns stick to SA 2 for the meter...
Posted by juxtapose on July 25, 2010 at 9:05 a.m. #20
Why does anyone listen to anything Ono says "might" happen anymore? He's said they were considering using GGPO in a number of games in the past, but it's still never happened.
I'm convinced he just says stuff to keep people coming back because he likes the attention.
Posted by PainKiller on July 25, 2010 at 9:14 a.m. #21
People will get ken, will mash the crap out of the controller to get a reversal shoryuken, he won't get the reversal shoryuken, he will fail for next 10 times
he will quit.... thank god no noobs

Didn't they use it in Final Fight, HDR and MvC2? Or am I wrong?...

GGPO would be fantastic and should have been incoporated wiv SSF4 and remove Yun and Yang!?! someone had a sip of derkhed juice...?
Posted by Zeidust on July 25, 2010 at 9:33 a.m. #25
I have had some laggy matches in 3S on GGPO. I was however playing someone in Hawaii (from Ohio). It was just a matter of how many players, and where they are from. The netcode on the Anniversary Edition wasn't unplayable, but it mixes up guess work on say "Parries". some people could just adapt.
As for re-balancing...You can either keep the top tier the same, and raise up the bottom characters, or nerf some of those elite characters (i'm looking at you Chun SAII). Personally. It would be nice to not work 3x's as hard to win when I play remy. As I don't play Sean, I think its time we get him up to the top.
I hate that some characters can juggle like crazy (yun) Either take that out, or let everyone find new ways to keep the air combos going.

what is a GGPO?
Posted by BisonBetterBeGoodInSSF4 on July 25, 2010 at 10:40 a.m. #27
please leave the game as it is. we dont want any balancing issues. leave chun and yun to their god teir status (I main Urien). those who have already played 3rd strike know how to fight off these guys. those who have never played it...too bad. you'll go through the same hell we went when we didnt know, and then you'll be happy youve conquered your fear of games harder than (S)SF4. maybe if they want make an HD version, but tthats it. DO NOT add/minus anything from the gameplay (other than the graphics). Amen

It's not the way to fix the tops. It would be much better to fix the lows - a little more damage, a little more priority. Thats all. It must stay the same game

Things change and evolve for the better. Look at sports today...
Just because you CAN deal with BS - it doesn't make things right. I'm tired of seeing nothing but the top 6 characters at top level winning tournaments. It's not MvC2, dammit!

So what happens when they use GGPO for 3S and it still lags?
Because it's going to.

I vote they leave it alone, so all those Sagat/Ryu whiners can see what broken really is.

@#34 JasonLee
GGPO is not a cure for lag (despite what many people say/think). It just makes certain inputs more consistent.

I know. That's my point.
People praise it and think it will be perfect. Just wait till they actually use it and the people cry about how horrible it is.
Posted by brenttiscool on July 25, 2010 at 1:08 p.m. #41
Final Fight was the only game they used GGPO netcode in. My main concern is if it's a direct port of the arcade version or are they gonna actually mess with the character balances and stuff like that. I really hope they don't, I like the game how it is now. The only thing I'm open to is if they upgrade it like HDR, graphics wise.
Posted by Aftermath1349 on July 25, 2010 at 1:09 p.m. #42
Its a tad annoying that they can't give this game a fairly quick release. A direct port job with added online multi/leaderboards and achievements really should only take a couple months. We dont want a version of 3s full of features we'll never use.
Anyway, Capcom, you released a garbage game with SFIV. There are many of us who only play it because thats where the comp is so please give us a real fighting game in a timely fashion.
Posted by Triforce on July 25, 2010 at 1:09 p.m. #43
I just hope they don't follow some of the suggestions I've seen on forums to take parry out.
Posted by vivalavortex on July 25, 2010 at 1:09 p.m. #44
Do you guys really want an HD remix of this game? The graphics on this game amaze me til today. Re balancing the game will prolly end up ruining it and people will STILL complain about stuff. Keep the game the way it is unbalanced or not it's still one of the best fighting games ever.
Posted by Aftermath1349 on July 25, 2010 at 1:12 p.m. #45
@Triforce
I wouldn't worry about that. Capcom knows as well as we do that anyone asking for the removal of parries has never actually played 3s and therefore their opinion is invalid.
Posted by Shadowzz on July 25, 2010 at 1:29 p.m. #46
Just keep the game the same, arcade perfect etc. a slight update to the sprites wouldnt bother me.. game looks fine the way it is and if you really know how to play 3s, Tiers won't mean anything. Unlike in SF4.
Posted by Xurkey on July 25, 2010 at 1:32 p.m. #47
Sirlin did a great job rebalancing HDR and giving special attacks new properties which is really cool in my opinion. The 4th Strike video I saw was pretty neat, sort of gets where I'm coming at. I think this Online Edition should follow suit.
All and all I am very excited for this, I hope for an HD Remix version!
Posted by JasonLee on July 25, 2010 at 1:36 p.m. #48
"if you really know how to play 3s, Tiers won't mean anything. Unlike in SF4."
Uh, no.
I'm fairly certain SuperIV is much better balanced then Third Strike.

Most characters can juggle, it's just all about finding how. And, as I said in the other Third Strike thread, don't edit it.
#47
If you're suggesting that the 4th Strike video, in any sense, introduced a sense of rebalancing you are horribly mistaken. As cool as everything was on it,a game like that would only worsen the balance gap that everybody whines about.
The perceived imbalance of Third Strike has been what has made the game so fun to both watch and play. Viewing wise, it's always fun to see Hayao or Kuroda, who main low-tiers, tool some of the top Chun-Lis and Yuns pretty regularly. Playing wise, it's always fun to go against matchups that are 8-2 in your oponent's favour - it makes it a total test of skill and determination, which is the most you can ask from a game series like Street Fighter.

I like 3s, but I hate re-re-re-releases and rehashes
Posted by Xurkey on July 25, 2010 at 2:17 p.m. #51
@49
I know that 4th Strike isn't balanced but I like the idea of giving new properties to existing special moves.
Also, Twelve's XCOPY super art needs to go. It is completely useless and they should replace that with something new.
Who agrees?
Posted by Lue on July 25, 2010 at 2:34 p.m. #52
If they release this game they should not change anything about it but the graphics. That is all.

If it uses GGPO, unless they do rebalancing or something, I don't see how this would be any better than just playing 3S with GGPO on your PC.
Posted by Catalyst on July 25, 2010 at 4:01 p.m. #56
I'd be very surprised to see Capcom do any rebalancing of Third Strike. The effort, time and money it took them to do HD Remix was... worth it, as the title was successful, but they've made a few statements about how difficult and time consuming the upgraded graphics and things were to do.
I think the MvC2/Final Fight style, with graphic filters and better net code is how they're going to do most of their re-released titles in the future.
They could do more, I'd just be surprised to see them go that route with everything they have on their plate.
Posted by BisonBetterBeGoodInSSF4 on July 25, 2010 at 4:14 p.m. #57
@31
i can deal with bull**** because i put the time and effort to do it. im not gonna let some guy whos never played the game be equal to someone whos been playing this game for years. if you want another SF4 go play that then, leave this game and how its been from the time it came out, to us. btw chun is actually a hard character to pick up. she aint like the shotos where you can just pull off a lucky shoryuken and win. what makes her so good in this game are two things. her pokes and her being able to link almost any normal to her SA2. noobs can try to pick her up, but they'll go through hell first before getting to Heaven.

Posted by shortmarine on July 26, 2010 at 12:52 a.m. #64
Remember in HDR you had a option to play classic or HDR
They should do that in SF3 3rd Strike OE :) just my 2cents
Posted by NJCU on July 26, 2010 at 4:38 a.m. #65
@31 rebelancing and keeping classic gameplay are not mutually exclusive. Both can be offered as they were with HDR. Quite honestly unless they do something of this nature what would be the point? I mean this game is alredy available with GGPO for free...Also notice that Ono stated the game was still far away which implies that they are adding new, time consuming treats.
Posted by raymizzie on July 26, 2010 at 9:14 a.m. #66
regardless of all the complainers on here, the game should be left un-tampered. the game is fine how it is, they can add all the modes the ps2 version had and i'd be fine with it. i wouldn't mind if they added a mode just to parry the basketballs either, because after level 3 it got insanely hard to get a perfect lol. for all you chun li and yun players, watch out cause ryu's coming to get ya ;)
Posted by anon1010 on July 26, 2010 at 5:27 p.m. #67
why are people asking for buffs or nerfs? leave it as it is, who cares if chun, yun, ken, etc. are gay... either go back to sf4 or learn to play.
i play 12 and as hard as it is, it's super fun playing with all his disadvantages because beating people with him is just all the more satisfying.
to ask for buffs/nerfs just mean you suck at the game.
Posted by Ni8wing on July 28, 2010 at 4:11 a.m. #68
To Capcom,
Just cut and paste the freaking arcade version (first version with the unblockables to be specific) and just make it lag free online.
That's all you have to do. No stupid HDR version like they did with ST. That was a bad bad bad move on Capcom's part. HDR destroyed the legacy of Super Turbo. It divided the Super Turbo community big time and destroyed the chance for players to have a universal super turbo game.
The last thing we need is for the 3rd Strike community to be divided. We need to keep 3S a universal game. So people in Denjin arcade can play people online in Japan. So that arcade players of 3S today can accept playing 3S online players.
I would be super disappointed if they changed the online version of 3S. Hardcore 3S players have waited forever for their time to shine for having 3S online. Don't even try to make 3S stupid super user friendly like they did with ST HDR. Why do you think Zangief won in EVO? Because HDR made the 360 user friendly by making it a half circle. You don't even have to risk jumping to do the 360 anymore. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Sirlin you dropped the ball on this.
