• It's not coming in the immediate future, Ono said they're going to take their time and do it right.
• Capcom will be adding new features, but they're taking fans' ideas and wishes into account as well.

Yes, 3rd Strike is coming to us via PSN and XBLA.
Ono's words:

"Capcom will be adding new features..."
PLEASE!!! Do not do this just leave the greatest SF game ever made as it is
I dont want Ken to have a mohawk
I dont want Ryu to have an alt pink costume
I dont want Twelve to become God-Tier
No
And My worst nightmare as far as my imagination can take me is to mess up the parry system
Please...:'(

@12: New features doesn't mean rebalancing or changing the system. More than likely, it just means new game modes like maybe an online tournament mode ala SF4 or a survival mode.

I wish they'd rebalance this game actually, im tired of only seeing Ken, Chunli, Ryu and Urien on GGPO :-/

@ 13 i hope your right buddy
as for the rebalancing issues am i the only one that relished the opputurnity of fighting Chun and Yuns as a Yang player i loved the challenge
But chun does need to be tones down she builds meter way to fast and can combo almost any of her normals into her super maybe give her one bar for her SA and lower the rate of filling it up. :) i jst hope they dont change it to a disaster

For all of you who are saying "don't mess with the balance of 3S" let me say this: In HD Remix they did rebalanced the game and made a ton of changes... However, they also had the option to play "Classic" ST. 3rdS is pretty much dominated by 3 characters, tournament wise. There are characters like Alex and Necro who I really like, but are pretty much forgotten about when you talk about high level play. I won't be against a rebalanced version, but as long as there was a "classic" mode for you purist out there.

3rd strike will never be suitable for online, the parry system needs critical timing (Lag) makes this game broken
I tried it on GGPO I just could not play! its too silly to make this online + the LCD lag.
good luck with whatever team trying to make this work!
Posted by Carnoustie on July 24, 2010 at 4:31 p.m. #28
DON'T touch oro's SA2 crossup unblockables, or urien's. It's too much of a fun factor with them. Especially Oro since his SA2 is USELESS without them. I think the game needs rebalancing but Oro isn't broken with unblockables and they were removed for home ports of the game last time to make him much worse vs hugo and dudley.
Posted by Nelaelu on July 24, 2010 at 4:43 p.m. #29
First of all, you DON'T want to make gamplay/character changes in a classic game like that!
but at the same time...
SF3: Third Strike was balanced so badly. Many characters were virtually unplayable competitively (due to their 8-2 match ups) If nothing changes playing online for many will get boring / frustrating.
The only solution might be damage adjustment. Characters/moves that are very good/spammable should have their damage reduced. That way they will still play/feel the same, but became slightly more balanced.

Hell yeah, I'd buy this game on PC. But sadly that's very unlikely, though, since there's even less of an incentive for a PC port of a game that can be run on GGPO than there is for SSFIV or MvC3.

That makes it that much more fun, to practice intensly with low tiers with the hopes of overcoming such "rigged" characters as Chun and Yun (who I take it you are complaining about). Clearly, if you have these problems, Third Strike isn't the game for you. In the end it's all about who you have fun playing with, not what some match-up list tells you. Kuroda and Hayao are two perfect examples of perceived low-tier characters consistantly achieving high results.
Posted by StinkmeanerGTA on July 24, 2010 at 6:19 p.m. #37
They need to finish shin akuma and make Sean like he was in 2I. A color edit mode would also be cool
Posted by SaitoKojima on July 24, 2010 at 6:39 p.m. #38
Well, I don't mind the "unbalanced-ness" in 3S. I never really had many problems with the Top Tier characters. It's the crazy traps that Urien and Makoto could do, which were what I was afraid of.
Hell, even though people say Makoto is "terrible" in Super SF4, I still keep my guard up very high when I face one. Cause I KNOW she can be deadly as hell in the right hands.

So long as balancing is better.
I do not to just face the top 5 tier characters all the time...huh. Once people who are new to this game...they jump all over them.
But it will be fun to see these SFIV fans pick Ryu and see he is far from the best in 3S...AND that parrying system.
Now that I think of it, parrying is gonna suck online, considering lag...huh.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH EMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM GGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
This announcement made my day :D
Hopefully this will revive the 3s scene a little and make it a little more noob friendly. I remember that was my biggest turn off / challenge when I started a year ago, having to only play against veterans.
And please Capcom, take care when designing the netcode. 3s' greatest asset is the parry system, which is really hindered by lag. The game almost requires a system that compensates for it, like state consistency checking on GGPO. Please, please >_< include/design a system with the means to make the parry system playable over the net.

Posted by GZR666 on July 24, 2010 at 8:34 p.m. #47
Use GGPO or something better, please. When I played 3S online I was at least capable of parrying Chun-Li SA2, Akuma SA1, be able to defend against Yun SA3 etc. But that was on GGPO. I fear parrying 2-3 hits and then getting hit by the rest due to a lag spike. -.-"
But it's great to hear 3S is coming to PSN/XBL. Kids that may have only played (S)SF4 can at least be exposed to other SF games. Now if only we could get MSH and XvSF. >:)
Posted by ShadowKnight28 on July 24, 2010 at 9:24 p.m. #48
@Clovr4Lyf
You're exactly right. Reduce the damage on Chun's SA2, and make the bars longer on Ken and Yun's SA3 (Maybe even Dudley's SA3 as well).

MEANWHILE #40
I agree that it's more fun to play characters that you really like instead of picking high tiers. However, 8-2 match-ups (that are common in 3S) give one player BIG advantage.
You can still practice hard and win those match ups (by being much better than your opponent), but if you ecounter someone who gets anywhere close to your level you gonna get DESTROYED.
The higher the level of play the more NARROW the differences between players are. It becames more and more difficult to succeed in 8-2 match-ups - and good players don't like to lose only because they picked a worse character!
It makes sense to keep everything in the game the same, BUT...
Posted by downthesun01 on July 24, 2010 at 10:01 p.m. #52
I hope this get the HD Remix treatment complete with rebalancing and an option to either play remixed or arcade online. Info was lacking but I think if that were the case they would have made mention of it during the announcement.
I'm disappointed that there was no Darkstalkers or Rival Schools announcement. A new CvS would've been amazing too.
All that said, I'm glad that Capcom is working on more fighting games. I just that they don't freak out if/when SxT bombs. That game just seems like a balancing nightmare.

Hey, I have my doubts about SXT too. It's a fantastic idea, but you're taking characters from a 3D game and putting them into a 2D plane. I bet a lot of the Tekken cast would be hard to make competitive and not over powered at the same time.
Also, it kinda sucks that a new Darstalkers wasn't announced ether. Another great idea for a game, classic horror movie monsters battling it out, and they haven't made a squeal since the 90's. Actually if you think about it, they keep put Morrigan in games (MvC3, TvC) and yet not a new DS? Something is wrong with that.

I see where you're coming from, and i'm sure a lot of people agree with you, I just like the challenge of those 8-2 matchups. I played Necro, Twelve and Urien back in the days, so for those first two I'm speaking from experience hahaha. I just feel if you dick around with the game too much, it'll ruin the atmosphere that the arcade engine originally built. You won't get the joy of watching a good Q or Twelve anymore, because they won't be so hard to play/
Posted by DudeMeister on July 25, 2010 at 4:10 a.m. #59
my advices:
hd treatment as in mvc2 hd treatment and not ssf2thdr. i recall NOT ssf2hdr's treatment. the graphics looked ugly in a way, which also had to do with sf2's low frame-rate.
additional stages and themes from new generation and second impact, which you can select before fighting your opponent(kinda like how you can select which opponent you fight)
character balancing off course
optional: an option to play new generation, second impact and third strike in their original forms.
that's about it i think. would've also liked the win/loss screens from new generation and second impact to be put in, but unfortunately the third strike only characters don't have those.
Posted by irrenmann on July 25, 2010 at 4:39 a.m. #60
This is nice for the people who liked SFIII, but there were never very many of those. This is unlikely to sell even a third what SFII's HD Remix sold. It doesn't seem to be the best use of Capcom's resources.
Posted by Helgen on July 25, 2010 at 4:46 a.m. #61
Quote me if I'm wrong, but it is not hard to ask 3S players what they want in 3S other than just having it ported to basically every system possible with a decent net code. Am I right? Just bring the game out, let it have it's own servers, and let people play it online. It's that simple. I'm sure NG players don't really need anything new in it. Heck, I don't want ANYTHING CHANGED in it, I just want an arcade port at home, and online, and nothing more.
Capcom, it's really that simple. You keep releasing 3S, the fans and newcomers keep on buying it, because it's that good.
Capiche?
Posted by cearbeartron on July 25, 2010 at 6:22 a.m. #62
@Helgen #67
If you only want to play third strike as it is, all you have to do is to download the roms for third strike and play via GGPO or Supercade, for FREE. There is no point in releasing a game for consoles when there already is a free version on the PC that runs on almost all computers. If Capcom want this to sell then they will have to do more than that.
I think most 3S fans can agree that Sean, Q, twelve and Hugo needs improvement and that Chun, Yun and ken could use some nerf's. So some balance changes can be expected.
Posted by Pusha_T on July 25, 2010 at 3:31 p.m. #63
Yaay I'll be able to learn those freaks necro and Twelve.
Posted by DRain on July 26, 2010 at 1:48 a.m. #64
As much as I would like to play with 2I characters, the fact of the matter is that 2I is a completely different game from 3S. 3S is a nerfed game by comparison, and O. Ibuki, Akuma, and Sean would destroy the 3S cast.

I enjoyed 3rd strike as it was; the unique characters, air combos, parrying system, i think it is the best fighting game ever made (along with CvS2).
I discovered in street fighter 2 online, there was about !/8 of a second delay increase (compared with the original) from when i tapped a button to when an attak actually hit the opponent. if thay can possibly keep the timing the same, unless thats the requirement of smooth online play, id be glad.
A good thing to add first is to show who has the highest score, wins, win/loss, win speed, the least hit and all win conditions e.g. perfects per month ect. all to be replaced the following month.
another good thing to be able to do is share videos of matches and especially enter the last tourney videos on the server to be replaced next tourney
The best game modes I think they could add is: survival (also fight endless human opponents in a line)
These are long shots: Tag Team, Two on two, two on 1 (choose handicap so the 2 enemies can have full health)
The most important things to change, being named 'online' is to make the online coding more efficient and make the game entirely in synch with almost unnoticeable time delay (sf3 players will notice); theres not much point in the parrying if you have to study time warps and try to ajust your delay timing. I find this the most frustrating thing in online games.
one last thing; i would be thankful if everyone benefited from the same experience of online play, regardless of location.
