Versus City did a very nice job translating an interview that was recently posted with Daigo Umehara. What was the reason behind your winning Evolution 2010?
The other players were practicing with their sub-characters as well as main characters, whereas I was concentrating on a single, all-purpose character. I wouldn’t have any regrets if I had say, used another character and had lost. Also, I analyzed the characters that the strong players were using, and started to play against those characters to prepare myself.
How often do you go overseas for tournaments?
Last year I went to America, England, France, Taiwan, Kuwait and Switzerland. This year I was invited to events in England, Australia, France and America.
Other than your winnings through games, what do you do for a living?
I’m working as a helper at a senior citizen’s nursing home. I usually work there about five days a week. My parents are both in the field of medicine so they had no objections to this kind of work.
Daigo's secret to winning, just be prepared for top tier characters. This does make it interesting as to how GamerBee would have faired against Daigo.
@clovr
yeah daigo is so free. he sucks as he falls for such tricks like you mentioned. daigo's such a scrub ahaha
Q: Other than practicing, is there anything else from your life that helps you during tournaments?
A: Tactics in games that I have discovered myself, and watching TV documentaries, like those that talk about how certain animals hunt their pray certainly help me with my way of playing.
Lol...truly a beast.
I kinda found this amusing
Q:How do you feel about being called “The Beast” overseas?
A:I guess it came from that infamous 3rd Strike video with Justin, people just started calling me that through their own volition. "I don’t understand why though."
yet

Really? That's a very beastly thing to do Daigo.

I think a lot of people just don't acknowledge Daigo as an extreamly intelligent man and we take his skills for granted. We often say "Oh yeah he won because it was "him' it was "daigo." Daigo is just a very intelligent young person who is probably smarter than 80% of the people in that tournament. He is a very high level calculationg person and takes every little thing to account when he plays including meters. Justin joked about this on his thoughts on Daigo and he called him a "robot," simply put, Daigo thinks at a level beyond your average man and pure skills is not enough to best him in a marathon of matches.

Read Question "What was the reason behind your winning Evolution 2010?" It pretty much answers it.
so concentrate on a character with no bad matchups(ryu) then fight rufus all day, got it.

Below are some videos that you both may find interesting. Daigo and Gamer Bee have actually played each other a lot before EVO via Xbox Live.

See, this is what I like about Daigo, he's trying to accomplish something greater for the community.
What do you want to do from now?
To get more people interested in fighting games and get them excited about it, it’s up to me to carry that mantle. In the past I wouldn’t have liked doing that, but if no one is interested in fighters, then the genre will die, and everything that we have done up until now would be pointless. This is why I feel that I have to lead the charge, and I feel that I’m the only one who has the ability to do so.
Interesting. Daigo says: one all-purpose character. In other words, no counter-picks or backups. I wonder if people are going to take that to heart, or if it would just be too much of a change?
Those matches are from almost 2 months ago. Gamerbee said himself that Daigo destroys him when they play online. Anyway its interesting that he says he only plays 10% serious in tournies.
Daigo has ice running through his veins. It's almost as if he's stoned out at tournaments. Watch the Lamerboi vs Daigo match at Evo 2k10 and you'll see the stark contrast in attitude, reaction, and mentality on their faces. I personally couldn't tell if Daigo was even playing SF or listening to a boring lecture about lint.
Daigo would have beaten Gamerbee at Evo only because he knows how Gamerbee plays. I have a feeling that Gamerbee will not do as well in future tournaments when other players finally figure out how to match up against Adon, similar to how Inthul made a splash with Fei Long and didn't do well in follow up tournaments.
I think Justin followed Daigo's way of thinking and practiced against only top tier characters. That's what caught him by surprise when he played against Zangief and Adon.
Regardless I find it funny that the rest of us probably takes Daigo's games more seriously than he does.
Basically Daigo couldnt be arsed to try out any other characters. And just stuck with boring Ryu.
GamerBee could have beaten Daigo. Adon is an anti-shoto character. So GamerBee would have had a good chance of beating Daigo's boring Ryu. On the Tier list Adon beats Ryu 60% of the time.
Well it's not like Ryu doesn't have negative (which, has to be stressed, is far from impossible) matchups in this iteration.
Gotta love Daigo's wanting to help the community grow, though.
Regarding GamberBee: they played a lot, Daigo has to have learnt something from it. But I agree, Adon does pretty well against fireball characters, couldn't have been easy, to say the least.
Aha my friend is gonna be pissed to hear the answer to the first question
