New challengers coming for Super Street Fighter 4?
A scan of the arcade flyer for Super Street Fighter 4's arcade release may be hinting at new characters being added to the game, as the text "Here comes new challengers?!" is shown near the bottom.
Ryan "Gootecks" Gutierrez posted back in May that he heard from a "strong source" downloadable content (DLC) characters would be added to SSF4.
Capcom's Yoshinori Ono has made statements saying it's possible from a technological standpoint as well.
Super Street Fighter 4 arcade location tests start this weekend in Japan, and we should know fairly early on if any new characters are added to the roster.

they could just mean that the new challengers are the Super Chars + Console Chars. These being the new additions to the arcade game. Note how the regular aracde chars Abel , Rufus, Bison are on the right and in smaller boxes. I oculd be very wrong though

Hate to point this, but it's high likely these new fighters are just the missing characters comparing arcade SF4 and SSF4.
You can also see the character select menu in that scan, and the japanese text mentions 18 new fighters (vanilla console characters + SSF4 new challengers) for a total of 35 fighters.

#19 that's what i think as well since above it says in bold numbers "35" which is the number of fighters in the home version as well. Yet i do think some new characters will be added, it would be a good chance for Capcom to make some more money off the game

I'll likely be heading to Hey on Sunday, with the temptation to skip work Friday...but I think I'll do the smart thing and work Friday. Even though it'd be cooler to see it with my own eyes, I probably won't bother to head down there on Sunday unless there's something new to see, which I'm sure we'll have heard about by then.

I think, with the poster highlighting only Console and Super characters, that they're pretty clearly referring to said characters. I mean, I guess the question mark makes it a bit ambiguous, but making posters takes a lot of time, so hyping up something that there's already hype for and will be made apparent within the week seems like a waste of man hours.
I think what's really important is what the Japanese part with "35" in it says, and the context in which it is said.

i think the "!?" part is being over analysed japaneese humour and banter is so much more different to the western world we are taking it to literally. Ono laughs at everything he says which is an example of cultural differences in humour.

If they decided to add Rolento I really hope it won't be a disappointment like Guy was. Guy's floating jump and his timing in his targeting combo made him a difficult character to use. His timing is different from Alpha imo.

They should rebalance the current characters before adding new ones.

People really need to start reeding first the ono announcement saturday is not sf4 news as its supposed to be bigger that sf4. He also stated before that he might add characters in the arcade release but mentioned that their will be DLC characters for the console so either way were guranteed new characters in some shape or form

If they do come out with new characters would that mean the previously reported Tier List would be null and void due to the new match-ups.
Regardless, it would be cool to see some of the previously mentioned characters. It would be worth it just to try them out, R. Mika would be awesome though.

Why are people hoping to bring back characters from older series?
I personally want brand new characters...I think that's more exciting... with existing characters...you sort of know what to expect from them because they'll have almost exactly the same moves...just changing it to fit the SSFIV mechanics.
I mean.. the new cast of Abel, Rufus, ELF, Viper, Juri and Hakan are all very intriguing.
I just want to Capcom to keep it original and creative.

You guys are reading into this too much (I'll do a rough translation):
Next to HERE COMES THE NEW CHALLENGERS?! the Japanese text reads as "The New Challengers' Shadows"
I'm assuming that is referring to the characters above that are indeed new, but to the arcade version. To further prove my point above the picture of Ryu vs. Juri at the Character Select and to the left of Abel it says, "18 new characters added for a grand total of 35. On top of that, all of the characters have 2 Ultras!"
18 new characters on top of the original 16 presented into the arcade version + Gouki/Akuma for a grand total of 35.
TL;DR Here comes the new challengers only references the new characters not in the arcade version.

Super exists. If this is an arcade port of SUPER the characters aren't new. They just are.
Also, the "new challengers" has a question mark embedded in the image.
This indicates something unknown. It's literally NEW characters. None we have seen before for Super.

I feel like they will add new characters. To give the arcade version added power. From a making money standpoint, for a majority of the world console is center. So if you want people who own a console copy play an arcade version, there better be something new and unique about it. Then you sell these characters as DLC later for more profit. That to me seems like the best plan in order to maximize profits.

Thank you for clearing up the subject. There may or may not be new characters added to the arcade version and then offered as DLC for console, however, that image is only talking about the new characters to the arcade version. Adon, Ibuki, Cammy, Dee Jay, Dan, Fei Long, Gouken, Gen, Makoto, T.Hawk, Seth = New challangers (don't know why they didn't show Cody, Guy, Hakan, Juri, Rose, Sakura; maybe they're on another page). Don't read too much into the question mark, it's there only for cosmetic purposes, it's not even meant to be a rhetorical question.

If it's indeed a DLC character, it's going to be either 1 of 2 things.
1) A throw away character such as a Hugo or another low tier player as to not throw off game balance too much.
or
2) A clone character. The same character with a different outfit. No need to rebalance. I'm hoping a Maki/Guy type.

people say that the challengers are just the new characters in super but that simple cant be true, japan vanilla sf4 and it had like 15 characters, wen it came to console they added 10 more, this time the console version came out first so all 35 characters in ssf4 arent new, hell diago is the new chap of ssf4 meaning everybody nows who these characters are, when the arcade comes out its almost likely we'll c all new characters. Some old maybe some new, but definitely no ex characters, so all u ppl askin for garuda and skullomania just stop, its not happenin, as much of a gud character he is capcom does not own them in anyway. now as for characters,i hope we get the whole bottom row for new characters. my list:

SFIII: Alex, Hugo, Urien, & Elena should be included because her stage was in SSFIV
-Geki should have an Ultra were he turn invincible until

To those who don't know, the rumor on shoryuken said Alex and Rolento would be revealed Saturday as part of a seven character addition, which may or may not all be in the Arcade version now.
I bet Ono convinced them to do Arcade on the basis of his team being able to push out this many characters and then, to top it, seeing if a MAJOR DLC addition could be financially viable. I think we'll see he was correct very shortly.

ur post is making me feel confident about new ssf4 characters. I hope youre right. i hope charlie makes it into the game as well.
he wouldnt be any better or worse than guile. just BALANCED. in fact i dont even believe in tiers at all. i think its all up the human players skill. make his booms and fk a little slower or faster. it could even be double hit on fierce buttons like ryu's fierce shoryuken. integrate him into the story (somehow) just the same way that gouken was.

Xmen: First class game? I'm not sure that's going to work since they're still in casting for movie, but yeah that was a given they'd make a game.

They are all characters without special effect (like ibuki's orb, fireball, flammes, etc.)... except Charlie but sonic boom is already in the game....
Capcom do the easiest choice, the fastest and less ambitious.
it would have been longer and more difficult to make characters like Urien or Oro...

So Thor and the Wolf god from Okami have been confirmed for the MvC3 Demo going on at Comic-Con, so it seems that the rumor posted on shoryukenis false - he only mentioned the first confirmed 4. The rest all seemed a little general and vague - A Thor and Captain America game only make sense with the release of the movies sometime next year. About the Street Fighter 7 seemd a little too much, and tho I would love for it to be true I doubt that it's gonna happen.

I think 7 is about right to make a big impact - also, this may be their last chance for the SF4 platform to squeeze in the last few fan-faves not previously used. Alex, Rolento, Elena, Mika, Hugo and Charlie are likely as they have been mentioned by Capcom staff. We know Elena barely missed out, Ono loves Rolento and Mika, he's mentioned Hugo and Alex is an obvious SF3 addition. 7 would round things out nicely.

I would much prefer that and/ or Darkstalkers over Namco vs Capcom...
Unfortunatly both Darkstalkers and any number of DLC characters dont tie in with the image of ryu teased by ono... heres hoping for NOT Namco vs. Capcom.

The last time information was whipped off Shoryuken was when someone posted Hakan's profile pic before his reveal. The thread is gone completely because Capcom got pissed off - it's very suspicious that this has happened again with these rumours, but not with the supposed capcom v namco rumours. Why remove it if it isn't at least partly true? It's also very specific - why make up something about a harpy being in DS4? - it's too random. I reckon that info is pretty much right. We've seen this kind of lockdown on correct info before.
