Capcom's Christian Svensson discussed why a couple of the modes that were in vanilla Street Fighter 4 were dropped in Super.Are you going to add Survival Mode and Time Attack from Vanilla into Super Street Fighter 4?
Sven: There's no plans to bring these modes to Super. Sorry.
Why were these modes cut out of the new game?
Sven: Prioritization of schedule and budget is the answer for the "why". A higher priority was placed upon adding characters. If you wanted fewer characters, but more of these features (or the couple features returning), that could have been accommodated, but we believe most people would place more value on more characters that were fully tested and balanced.
Out of curiosity, how come sometimes you can't give a straight yes or no? I don't mean that in a rude way, I genuinely would like to understand why sometimes answers must be vague.
Sven: Because answers are rarely, if ever, final. By giving a "definitive" answer, that provides no option for that decision to change. And decisions here change all the time.
The resulting response would then later be "but you said that XYZ thing wasn't going to happen and it did. Why did you say that?" And the answer would be, that the decision changed, but that doesn't sit well with folks.
I try to be clear on the current disposition. I tend to not mince words there. But I try to leave room in my answers for the possibility of changes in that status, particularly on issues like this one.
Screw player mode i want champs mode so's the skill gap isnt as stupid sometimes
I dont care about modes, I just want to play on my PC already.
I understand their reasoning (and approve) for not bringing back Survival and Time Attack *as they were in SFIV*. All the different variations on each, with the order of characters you'd fight pre-selected and all, were quite wasteful from a development perspective. Time Attack in particular I can imagine taking a *lot* of planning to make sure the goals were realistic.
However, I cannot understand why they didn't even do stripped down versions of these modes. Imagine a single option for Time Attack, player and CPU normal, hardest AI, opponents and stages randomly selected, 30 second bonus, and the goal is simply to beat as many opponents as possible before running out of time. Or a similar Survival, player and CPU normal, opponents and stages randomly selected, hardest AI, 30% heal. You wouldn't even need trophies, just the leaderboards. How much development time could that take?
I don't know, but I'm pretty disappointed by the lack of those modes, Survival in particular. I spent hours and hours playing Survival while listening to podcasts, watching stream archives, and other such things that made me want something to do besides just them. Of course I can just load up SFIV, but it doesn't seem right to me when it would have been so simple.
Also, I would like to join in requesting championship mode, or at least something with the same advantages. It allowed for matches that were on a more even footing, and it didn't annihilate you for trying out new characters, which ranked mode does even now because of the stupid "player points".
@uHuRu85:
I'm probably one of the few who's glad that CM points are gone. Almost any player without skill could make G2 or G1 and the points were confusing. I like the PP idea which you can see on other modes than just ranked mode. A player with +4000PP is definitely a decent player, where a player with 19000GP could still be trash. I don't have any complaints regarding super even though my main was nerfed(gief.)
At least I've been receiving less death/rape messages after beating ppl.
@1
seriously, i hate lobbies. Nobody wants to experiment since if u lose u end up having to wait to fight. ANd geting a 1on1 lobby is a pain. Even when u werent fighting in sf4 u could atleast keep ur fingers moving vs the computer, now u just sit there. Its nice when u have a few friends and want to fight in a lobby but most of the time its just a burden. Who the hell wants to be in a room with 7 other people, lose then sit there for about 5 mins(thats being nice and assumeing each round ends in 30 secs, so add more time if people are lameing it out and goin for a clock win). Not to mention the people that join and lag the room to hell.
Here's the actual topic they clipped some of this from:

Next time, the guys at eventhubs should at least try to provide a direct link to the source instead of sending folks on a scavenger hunt.
I didn't/don't care about survival and time attack at all, and I definitely wouldn't want them taking priority over characters. It wouldn't effect me at all to have them in the game as DLC or something, but if putting development time into them prevented even one character from making it to the release, I think an overwhelming majority of people would want the character(s).
A few of them had amusing gimmicks like no dash, FA, EX, or Ultra to mimic Super Turbo. I'd like to see stuff like that as unranked online modes—but again, not in lieu of characters.
@13
lol, it was almost undoable. we needed it to be easier, mashing the low corners is the zeneth of execution.
Yeah, I have to agree that characters were the biggest priority. But then I have to ask, why not push back the release a couple months because there is CLEARLY some stuff missing from this game. Like CHAMPIONSHIP MODE!!!
I usually end up playing Ranked all the time because I can't stand sitting in a lobby of 8 players and waiting a half hour between games. That's one part of the arcade experience that I don't miss. I think people would take Ranked Mode more seriously if there was another mode like it that doesn't count for points to practice in (with as many fights as Ranked).
The whole reply to question 2 was a load of bollocks - to say the least.
Many times they flat-out deny something (like MvC2) and lo-and-behold, what did we get?
Just one example of many...
@7 I agree 4000 pp could mean ur good..but if a player loses 3 matches 4000 pp would easily become 3500 pp..one lose you lose like 100 pp. But if u win you only gain 50. So it doesn't mean your not good if u dnt have 4000pp.
@joker/21
if you play rank and have 3500 pp, it means you are not as good on the whole as a 4000 player. ranked mode is pretty good about this, unlike the old champ mode. that's the point - people don't exceed their skill level's ranking for long, as they will get beat by other players of similar rankings.
@#22
I have to disagree. Even PP doesn't mean much in this game because they are shared between characters. If you want to mess around with other characters just to experiment or to practice a new main/secondary you can lose all your PP in a blink of an eye.
If Player Matches counts as a mode, I really don't see the point in removing it. It serves a purpose Endless Battle doesn't quite fulfill.
Searching for 1on1 Endless, or hell, even creating one, will often lead to long waiting times with no fighting involved.
