First and foremost a HUGE thanks goes to Tony "Ponder" Cannon, who went out of his way a number of times throughout EVO to provide results and do things to keep the community in the loop. He was easily the single biggest contributor to this story.

A very special thanks goes to the Level|Up Series guys for being so helpful and nice. Also, Seth Killian, Arlieth, Chris Li, MediaDarling, Justice, Nyoronoru, James Chen, Mr. Wizard, Karaface and Tom Cannon for their support — plus the many other people I know I'm forgetting.

Also, kudos to Poke, PHB and Axefresh for contributing to this story.

Damn it! I ****ed up on their registration. In order to chat, you need to link it with your Twitter account. So I used my useless Twitter account. Then it gives you a registration PIN. I accidentally closed that window. So I tried again for a new PIN. When I entered it, it came up with an error 401. It seems like you need the FIRST registration PIN that you receive in order for it to work. I'm screwed now. I bet there are others like me lol.

So JR Rodriguez sent Tokido to loser's; not too surprised, but Tokido did have some good showings. I would've liked seeing more Daigo on the stream earlier, but suppose we'll have plenty more Daigo to come.

#46
Flawless said on July 9, 2010 at 6:18 p.m.

JR Rodriguez put Flash Metroid and Tokido into loosers WOW!!!!!!

#47

I thought Juicebox put Flash into losers then a honda player took him out.

Well my fellow EventHubers i'm off to my girls house for the weekend and unfortunately i'll be missing the matches on EVO since she's internetless and I already hear of Sanford and Justin are in losers wow. I hope GeomMod1nside wrescks shop with his Guile.

#49
Pig_Red said on July 9, 2010 at 7:18 p.m.

Bad stream. Boring matches. Rigged brackets. This is basically a known player showcase. They gave them as easy a ride as possible to the semi-finals at seeding.

MLG, please take fighting game tournaments out of the gutter. This scene desperately needs some professionalism.

#50
bananainsaneface said on July 9, 2010 at 7:24 p.m.

Can someone post a link to the bracket? From what I saw it seemed like there were numerous killers in each pool. And Justin is not in losers he's smashed everyone so far.

#51
saiferoth said on July 9, 2010 at 7:24 p.m.

Eh now its laggy again lol.

Man some nice clutch. @#51 Yeah, sure, most of these things are rigged for knowns but whatever, its been like this for over 15 years. :/

#52
whinerhubs_com said on July 9, 2010 at 7:24 p.m.

The lag is related to their video capture/ streaming hardware, not the Internet connection nor the # of servers. You do not see any lag in the player/commentator/web cams otherwise.

#53
cuttyb1987 said on July 9, 2010 at 7:25 p.m.

#55
Pig_Red said on July 9, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

Evo isn't seeded randomly. That's why we're seeing known players plow through a bunch of no-names.

I never thought EVO would get such a horrible stream. SHAME

Last year's stream was worse.

Slasher said on July 9, 2010 at 8:14 p.m.

I told the EVO guys before the event started that StickAM may very well crap out, and that they're by far the worst streaming technology of ustream/justin.tv/livestream, etc. Wish we (Live On Three) could have done the stream this year :(

#60
Catalyst said on July 9, 2010 at 8:14 p.m.

@whinerhubs_com

You're wrong. The Level|Up guys are running this stream and their streams are top quality. There are other issues afoot.

@NJCU

I thought I just heard GeoM's named called for a match, I could have heard wrong, but maybe it's another member of their group playing here.

JWong on losers bracket!?!?

#62
Pig_Red said on July 9, 2010 at 8:33 p.m.

Basically, they ruined the stream by 'keeping it in the community'. The community smells like stale Cheeto farts. Time to open up a window and let some fresh air in.

#63
NJCU said on July 9, 2010 at 8:45 p.m.

Yeah they called GeoM DC Hustle. Modinside actually lives is Medellin colombia.

#64
Catalyst said on July 9, 2010 at 9:14 p.m.

@gn7

If you've watched Level|Up's other streams, you'd know they do a great job. I didn't say this stream was awesome, as I mentioned, there are problems with stuff.

The problems are not on Level|Up's end though. They're doing all they can.

Mourne said on July 9, 2010 at 9:48 p.m.

Cauptain: There are two sets of pools, and the second one started shortly after 5:00 PM PDT. Justin Wong, along with Gootecks, Marn, etc, are all in the second set.

So far, Justin has obliterated everyone he's faced, and no, he isn't in the loser's bracket for Super Street Fighter IV. (He is in the loser's bracket on Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, which is why people started saying it; some people can't read and jump to conclusions.)

You won't get to see Daigo vs. Justin tonight, to say the least. More likely, you'll see them nearer the finals, and expect a great set of matches.

Super_Chun said on July 9, 2010 at 10:35 p.m.

@Pig_Red - I don't see the problem. Obviously they want it to be as climactic as possible.

Anyway, I REALLY hope they fix the stream for Saturday and Sunday's events. My connection was fine and I was getting 6-7 second pauses fairly frequently (occasionally saw a 10-12 second pause). Doesn't make it fun to watch. Would hate to see some of the better matches ruined because of massive lag.

Yeah, it definitely will. Rest assured, because you have less switching of streams and just more focus on ssf4. Saturday will be a lot better. Sunday? Im not so sure bout that though.

@AceKillah

Grimmjow316: Tokido has played today as well. He won against most of the lower level players, but lost to JR Rodriguez. He is now one of the finalists in the loser's brackets. He'll be facing Hugo101 tomorrow (Saturday).

Results from the 2nd pool set are still being determined, but I'm sure this page will be updated accordingly.

And for anyone who missed it, Ricky Ortiz joined Marn & Justin Wong in Evil Geniuses. Impressive trio so far, all things considered.

#97
K said on July 10, 2010 at 12:22 a.m.

It was their camera. I'm not sure why they didn't use a mirror effect or something, it was reversed for whole stream. Whatever. Anyway, great stream. I most of the choppiness was due to stickam affecting browsers. A lower bit rate wasn't really required to get rid of the lag/choppiness. Besides, a lot of the day the stream was perfecting fine and smooth. The rest of the time it was choppy but viewable. Only a couple hours was it totally unwatchable, and that was at the beginning of the day.
