EVO 2010 in Las Vegas, Nevada has finished up. This was an exceptional fighting game tournament with over $20,000 in prize money on the line for Super Street Fighter 4.
Damn it! I ****ed up on their registration. In order to chat, you need to link it with your Twitter account. So I used my useless Twitter account. Then it gives you a registration PIN. I accidentally closed that window. So I tried again for a new PIN. When I entered it, it came up with an error 401. It seems like you need the FIRST registration PIN that you receive in order for it to work. I'm screwed now. I bet there are others like me lol.
Eh, I'm gonna pass on TvC. Too bad there's no 3S. Exactly why they need to re-release it!
Here's the full schedule for EVO2K10 + Stickam live stream:
I'd like this to work later, that would be great Im looking forward to this stream live from L.V.
LMAO haha nice commentary i loved the part where the screen went black and theyre like "OMG its evo moment 66 raging demon" haha :) nice stream thanks level up!
Actually Rose U2 can be thrown out of it by Gief, Abel, Honda, Thawk Ex command grab and rufus destroys it with a single move so yea good matches
why does it seem like all the sticks are backwards on the stream? Usually its stick on left hand and buttons on the right, but on the stream it looks like buttons on the keft hand and stick on the right.
this is borderline unwatchable...lag is really terrible
Does anyone know when the SSFIV girls tourney is? A few of my friends are in it and i would really like to watch it. Sorry for sounding n00b, but im just really excited.
Hey, EVO deserved a better streaming, this is too laggy!
I thought Juicebox put Flash into losers then a honda player took him out.
Well my fellow EventHubers i'm off to my girls house for the weekend and unfortunately i'll be missing the matches on EVO since she's internetless and I already hear of Sanford and Justin are in losers wow. I hope GeomMod1nside wrescks shop with his Guile.
Bad stream. Boring matches. Rigged brackets. This is basically a known player showcase. They gave them as easy a ride as possible to the semi-finals at seeding.
MLG, please take fighting game tournaments out of the gutter. This scene desperately needs some professionalism.
Can someone post a link to the bracket? From what I saw it seemed like there were numerous killers in each pool. And Justin is not in losers he's smashed everyone so far.
The lag is related to their video capture/ streaming hardware, not the Internet connection nor the # of servers. You do not see any lag in the player/commentator/web cams otherwise.
My pick for the contest is socals own JR rodriguez and Juice Box finals
@whinerhubs_com
You're wrong. The Level|Up guys are running this stream and their streams are top quality. There are other issues afoot.
@NJCU
I thought I just heard GeoM's named called for a match, I could have heard wrong, but maybe it's another member of their group playing here.
I can't even see the stream is it over?
Also whoever did get a shot at seeing it any Gief's?
@saiferoth thanks man I get off work to watch this and nothing this sucks. how did Geom do? anybody know.
Cauptain: There are two sets of pools, and the second one started shortly after 5:00 PM PDT. Justin Wong, along with Gootecks, Marn, etc, are all in the second set.
So far, Justin has obliterated everyone he's faced, and no, he isn't in the loser's bracket for Super Street Fighter IV. (He is in the loser's bracket on Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, which is why people started saying it; some people can't read and jump to conclusions.)
You won't get to see Daigo vs. Justin tonight, to say the least. More likely, you'll see them nearer the finals, and expect a great set of matches.
this thing is pissing me off it starts finally and all I hear is comentary I wanted to see Online Tony
Really man thanks alot for the other than the korean player any japanese players other than Daigo played yet? (Sorry for all the questions just trying to find out)
@saiferoth yeah we did :) lol I was thinking that when I read your name lol.
Dooood I feel bad for that rose player that dagger g murdered!! Dagger is gonna go farther than people think
@Pig_Red - I don't see the problem. Obviously they want it to be as climactic as possible.
Anyway, I REALLY hope they fix the stream for Saturday and Sunday's events. My connection was fine and I was getting 6-7 second pauses fairly frequently (occasionally saw a 10-12 second pause). Doesn't make it fun to watch. Would hate to see some of the better matches ruined because of massive lag.
@Super_Chun
Yeah, it definitely will. Rest assured, because you have less switching of streams and just more focus on ssf4. Saturday will be a lot better. Sunday? Im not so sure bout that though.
@AceKillah
Peru played a good game. Your not even at EVO and ur salty.
damn that girl is pretty cute she from france and I main Abel were made for each other lol
Grimmjow316: Tokido has played today as well. He won against most of the lower level players, but lost to JR Rodriguez. He is now one of the finalists in the loser's brackets. He'll be facing Hugo101 tomorrow (Saturday).
Results from the 2nd pool set are still being determined, but I'm sure this page will be updated accordingly.
And for anyone who missed it, Ricky Ortiz joined Marn & Justin Wong in Evil Geniuses. Impressive trio so far, all things considered.
I noticed that the sticks are on the right side of people's arcade sticks instead of left. How come most of their sticks are on the right side?
i think the players camera is mirrored so their position matches their characters life bar
It was their camera. I'm not sure why they didn't use a mirror effect or something, it was reversed for whole stream. Whatever. Anyway, great stream. I most of the choppiness was due to stickam affecting browsers. A lower bit rate wasn't really required to get rid of the lag/choppiness. Besides, a lot of the day the stream was perfecting fine and smooth. The rest of the time it was choppy but viewable. Only a couple hours was it totally unwatchable, and that was at the beginning of the day.
Dayumn, Kayane is one sexy Chun Li.
Her profile page for Kayane Fans:

Taunts. Juicebox's ultra dances. Stick throwing. Scumbag ragequitting like a lil bitch. It's all here, folks !
Unsurprisingly, no one who mains a new (to SSFIV) character is in the top 32. I expect next year at EVO we'll see a fair number of them, but no one wanted to dump their mains just a few months before EVO and risk not finishing in the most important tournament.
Does anybody if any other japanese SSFIV players made the trip besides Tokido, Daigo and Eita?
where the F*** is the stream isn't to be 45hours non-stop ???
give my money back
Glad to see Tatsu in losers at least, to bad my internet sux atm (0.2 mbit)
Guys does anyone know who did GeoM DV HUSTLE lost too? I see eita and gamerbee qualified from his group, but I'm still wondering which players eliminated him.
@#121
Dear Bob, don't leave you country, the world don't need retarded people like you outside of AMERICA ... thx
i'm demon i'm not linguist nomesayin'
et si je te parle comme ça tu dis quoi tête de noeud ... comon' man
So I know Ed Ma eliminated Marn in the loser's bracket. But who beat Marn the first time? anybody knows?
wow cant believe many off the top Japanese players are in losers brackets. i gotta a question. is there anyway someone in losers can make it to winners bracket, or is that it for them?
#133
The winner of the loser´s final go to the grand final and must win 2 sets.
The winner of he winner´s final needs to win just on set in the grand final.
@drmarion
yeah floe is such a scumbag, i hate that fat disgrace.
In general, evo is so hype this time. I wish I saw more. If people like tokido, sanford, tatsu, onlinetony, sabin and EITA(!) are put to loser's then the level of competition must be so crazy!
I didn't see the eita/tokido fights but maybe these 2 intentionally went to losers to maybe steer away from the path of justin wong and daigo in winners.
@137 - Are you that stupid? If his opponent cared, all he had to ask for was a blindpick. It's clearly in the rules in most tournaments.
@130 - It's not even the biggest day and Evo had 5,000 more people watching it than the biggest days of any of the other tourneys I've seen this year. Kindly shut the fück up with your moronic generalizations.
@138 why would they intentionally lose? They aren't even in the same pools, that's not how it even works. Why in the world would Eita or Tokido be scared to face Justin Wong? He's not even better than them or on the same level. Geeze I swear you fan boys sometimes don't know any better.
I learned a couple things after day 1 at EVO
I learned that Europe is really free at Street Fighter
I learned EVO knows how put a very choppy stream on
I learned that Daigo is still the beast and I'm having doubts about Justin not winning this WOW I hope that I'm wrong
I also learned that Japan is not far ahead of us in Street Fighter besides Daigo everyone else is in loosers
@143
umm i don't know who put those two(tokido and eita) to loser's but there is absolutely no way these two people who are on the same level with daigo be sent to losers this early. Then again, I'm just speculating just for the fun of it :D
can't believe flash and pr balrog are done already
@147: Sadly, that's not the most absurd thing I've heard from the members of this site.
As for VegaBisonAbel, you're doing exactly what I pointed out before this began leading up to EVO this year. They are both very talented and skilled players, but again--as was predicted on this very site--the Japanese players are being overrated and unfairly. That does not mean they are not good, it just means you guys expect -far too much- from them.
That said, and this is really just my opinion, Daigo is better than the two of them. Much better. That is not a knock on Tokido and Eita--they just simply are not on the same level of play as is Daigo, much less Momochi.
In short: They lost, and sometimes they are going to lose. JR Rodriguez took it to Tokido and, by all accounts, outplayed him every step of the way. If you instead looked at them as players and not Japanese players on a match-by-match basis, you wouldn't be as shocked as the rest of us.
@RageKitDemon
I'm sorry you couldn't watch it. The point is it's a free stream and you didn't pay for it.
If you wait a few days you might be lucky, people will upload some videos. The point is stop whining if you want to view the stream, watch it when it is live.
People have to eat and sleep there is a time schedule for such a huge event.
oh man it starts 03:00 PM, that means midnight here in Sweden. EVO should have offline recorded stream too, no way I can stay awake that long.
hey, is tokido (Bob) in [laying tekken the same one as the tokido who plays Street fighter 4?
I just want to say GREAT COVERAGE EH! You know whats up when even the stream guys don't.
The stream isnt that bad for 15,000 people viewing it. I mean I dont like lag either but still not bad.
Kick justin's ass, daigo, show that douche that ur better than him
Oh yea @8
u predict wrong, j wong loses to RB, gets humiliated, and then daigo wins EVO
thnx to #132 & 133 for answering my question.
one more stupid question from me and then im done lol. how many matches is in one GF(grand finals) set?
BTW, is it just me or is womens bracket a stupid idea? I mean there are no disadvantages/advantages for men/women in gaming. Its pure skill that determines the outcome of a match and not the body you are born with*. which is one of the reasons I find e-sport more interesting than regular sport, its fair and square.
I'm assuming the organizers wanted to highlight that there are some girls playing which isn't a bad idea considering the low percentage of competitive gamers being female but it shouldn't really matter that much. You shouldn't enter a turney to see how you match up against other with the same gender when that alone doesn't affect your skill.
I just don't want gender to play a role in this like in Chess or Curling (both "sports" has nothing to almost nothing to do with physical strength or gender).
I might be over-thinking so your thoughts about this would be interesting to hear.
*Some are born without arms etc but these are rare cases and isn't the point.
Stream fûcking sucks, Jesus Christ Evo, if you can't afford bandwidth, just put it up on justin.tv. Doesn't exactly fill me with the urge to pay money for the videos you guys shill - makes it seem hella manipulative.
http://www.ustream.tv/channel/levelup...
Its on U$stream now f**k $tickam
Good stuff #170, I was about to post it too.
The Ustream version is waaaaaaay better than the stickcam version. I live on Guam and it's perfect. No lag or freezing at all.
@#168/cearbeartron:
It's not a women's bracket, in fact, from the announcement I just Googled up: "The only way to play in the invitational is to participate in the fully open tournament against everyone else in the world". Don't worry, they're not gender segregating EVO.
omg online tony :) i like his chunli better then his seth tbh but either way nice semi final matches serious stuff
The Sanford stick drama was nuts. How long does it take to translate "you won the first match" into Japanese, for fûck's sake? Hype totally left the room after that crap.
What's with the EG clan tag sh!t... Keep that lame stuff in CS not SF
glad to see justin wong getting that whoopin from vangief ( i dont like how he showboats idc how good he is that isnt nessesary)
wow.. almost felt like i was watching the nba or nfl.. great commentating.. great matches..
yo SkeeSonic needs to stfu...he's mad annoying and gets mad loud for no reason--what is he like 2and screaming into a mic BY HIS MOUTH?!?....ugh! aniways...can't WAIT to see tomorrow's Top/Final 8 and MVC3 Exhibition!!! =D should be interesting---
JWong did 2 random deperation ultras in the first match.. it was embarrassing indeed.
SRK isn't quite completely crashed.
Right now the character subforum with the highest viewcount that isn't Adon's is Zangief's, with 19 viewers.
Adon's, you ask?
Adon (251 Viewing)
This event... it is as intense as they claim it to be... I am more determined than ever to go next year and maybe even try my hand at it although I know I am nowhere near any one of these player's level... yet. I am still looking for good character to use... and always looking for teachers lol. Any takers?
Anyone else liked watching them put back the chairs? They did it with a great technique! I think it's called Dual Handed Positioning or something like that. Definitely the highlight of this stream.
Hey everyone,
Who were you guys rooting for? Personally I was rooting for Tokido since I'm a Gouki main and he's the best Gouki out there. I wanted Tokido vs Daigo in the grand finals but Gamerbee is beast also.
About Justin Wong : I knew he wouldn't be in the grand finals. With top japan players repping it there, it just made things very hard for him lol just sayin'...
WOO! Gamerbee, way to show Jwong what's Adon all about! Also makes me proud as an Adon mainer!
@DRain, SSFIV starts at 9pm Pacific time, but the finals as a whole start at 9am with Melty Blood (which probably three people will watch, haha)
Grand finals : Daigo Umehara vs Gamerbee
Winner : Daigo Umehara =P
JUSTIN WONG ELIMINATED BY ADON!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LMAO
Who's the thrash now? lol
Justin Wong was slamming Adon (PLEASE SEE THE VIDEO) and it is ironic that Adon kick his a$$ out of the BIGGEST TOURNAMENT IN THE WORLD....
JUSTIN WONG tought Adon was the weaker player in the game, well I guess JUSTIN WONG and his Rufus are weaker lol....
GREAT REASON TO PARTY!!!!!!!!
Awww Justin not in top 8? Wonder if his sponsor going to drop him now haha?
On another note, I'm surprised there weren't any boxers in the semi's.
Stopped around when Floe eliminated Juicebox. What were the highlights and how the heck did Mike Ross get in the Winners Bracket? WTF!?!
Also need to see Daigo whoop down Shizza
Vangief > JWONG??!?!?!?!!1 Epic.
Totally missed the Adon action. Please, someone, explain in detail, the saltiness that took place. Man, I hope this was archived.

@saiferoth
ok here it goes. first up justin went against vangief and tried to turtle the entire time so vang caught him off guard alot with zangeifs standing medium punch alot. a few comand grabs here and there. they both were doing great with poke game.
final game 1 jwong 1 vangief, justin got overwhelmed he got slapped up 4 times in a row with standing strong from zangief. vangief hit him with an ultra and then rushed in towards wong and got in another suplex and finished him off.
he got totally embarrased by gamerbee when he was juggled so many times and just hit with alot of jaguar kicks left and right. dude look at it for yourself my words dont even scratch how good those matches were!
This really just goes to show that SSFIV>tier lists. The game is so well balanced that 95% of the time, the better player wins. I still haven't given up hope on Makoto or Hakan, either, but it will likely take months/years to even begin to tell how they'll fold out in the long term.
http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/8199865
Starts with Vangief and Banana Ken. Good half-hour archived video. Seth/Chen commentating w/ Ski leaving.
@#250, its a weird m/u. If you jaguar kick and it gets blocked, Gief gets a free spd, but Gief basically cannot use lariat at all, alot of adons stuff beats lariat, including jaguar revolver(ultra 1). To me it seems to be a pretty even fight, I dont really have hard times vs Zangief tbh.
Daigo Vs Mike Ross
Daigo should have no problem beating any Honda player even if it is Mike Ross on his best day. Daigo 8-2
Vangief Vs Ricky Ortiz
Finally, a US Zangief player who is on par with the Japanese Zangiefs. He would have taken it against Ricky if it were played on Saturday but you can bet Justin will be working hard with Ricky on this matchup. Vangief 7-3
Henry Cen vs GamerBee
GamerBee, Taiwan's champion, has made full use of Adon's speed and unpredictability to catch his opponents off guard but faces a tough challenge against turtling characters like Honda. Both players are relatively unknown so it can still go either way. GamerBee 6-4
Infiltration vs Shizza
Funny how Infiltration who only lost to Alex Valle is in the top 8 while Alex is not and now he has to face Shizza who knocked Alex down to losers. Shizza 7-3
I'm still speechless right now what can I say I was one of those people that thought Justin was going to take it I was sooo wrong. A person that does random ultras doesn't belong to be in top 8 Justin was playing really scrubby missing links not punishing whiffs hats off to Daigo him or Gamerbee looked to be the fave to take it.
funny how quick those youtube links got stuffed with a copyright counter.
sucks for guys like me who had to run to the store during that last set :/
I didn't understand why Justin picked U2 at the beginning. Adon has no fireball. What can he counter with that? Adon's jaguar kick?
Also I really hope Ricky Ortiz gets knocked out too. I'm tired of Rufus.
Looks like Henry Cen learned alot from Geom on how to deal with Guile.
The top 8 looks like theres gonna be alot of crazy matchs. Out of all of them i want that gief player to win, hes fun to watch and it would be nice to see a grappler win a big one.
Man... It's shocking how J.Wong couldn't punish the jaguars with U2, one of the easiest things to do. Those random U2 were embarrassing. I guess being too technical hurts your reactions or something.
Also Adon's jumps are kinda slow and "floaty", very easy to H.Kick---> ex snake strike.
Wong played defensively and wasted ex.messiah kicks when he could instead risk some more jumps and do H.Kick into ex. snake strike. Adon can't do big damage in the air, when he have U2 you can easily bait it out with short dive-kicks and his jaguar-knee shoryuken does pitiful damage as anti-air.
The audience beat J.Wong not Gamerbee, if they had a rematch Wong would beat him badly like he did to AndyOCR. Its scary when Wong goes into angry-mode...
I've beaten many Adon's 3000+ PP online and they don't play very differently from gamerbee, so Wong get your head out of your ass and stop thinking about Daigo and finals try to learn to counter the new characters and STOP underestimating them. When you get cornered badly by a Adon then that means you're unsure of the match-up.
Justin is a great player, but he gets affected by his own psychology way too much. He doesn't have the ability to clutch it at the end especially when he's down, unlike other players who consistently come out on top in clutch moments. He needs to stay calm and collected, it's his own attitude or mindset that brings his own downfall.
He probably lost because of his Justin Bieber haircut lol.
Yo Eventhubs, you guys should put up a link for the Salty Suite mini-tourney, or at least a little shout out. Not enough people know about it. This sh!t is super hype, and Gamerbee is killin it.
I saw the Dagger G one his downloading skills are on par with Daigo crazy.
@CONSTvariable23 #171
Thanks, I was almost a bit worried :P
I am going to give some (unfair?) credits to Justin Wong. He met 2 players who not only play great but were using a character he didn't seem prepare well. I have never seen justin so nervous. Maybe he had some other personal stuffs matter in his head during the game.
Nevertheless I am rooting for 1st to 4th place in no order:
Infiltration or Daigo or Gamerbee or Zangief
GRAND FINALS. GAMERBEE vs MARN. Daigo money matches to follow. Tune in people!
No... *rolls eyes* Obviously that don't make a pro for beating random Adon's 3000+ pp online but they ain't crappy players and they do similiar pressure and mindgames like Gamerbee pulled off. You guys think these guys who appear tournaments are 10000x better than serious folks who play online? if yes, then I pity you. Because they could be the very same people you see in tournaments.
Speaking of pro's... only one can be called that and that is no other than the man: Daigo. If you let the audience or your low mentality affect your gameplay then you don't deserve to be called pro.
haha Nice attempt at justifying your comments. Fact of the matter is the people you see always winning at the tournaments are far better than the majority of players online.
I wonder how many xbox players who thought "Hey I have a ton of PP, I'mma sign up for EVO and win it all!" are in a pool of 2000? Answer? A ton. Yet the final 32 and now the final 8 are the same names you always see at the end of every tournament. It's unfortunate you aren't able to recognize that simple fact, but hey if you want to say you're as good as these guys in the top 8, more power to you.
@Hayate Just because they use the same moves doesn't mean they have a similar mindgame. Also, execution when grinding pp is different than execution on the main stage at EVO. Since you seem to measure character strength by pp, I assume a 7000+ Adon would be at least twice as better as the random 3000 pp Adons you fight.
Ohwait, Gamerbee is a 7000+ Adon.
Saying that random 3000 pp Adons online are of the same quality as Gamerbee is like saying any 3000 pp Rufus who mashes EX Messiah Kick is the same as Jwong or any 3000 pp Ryu who connects links and spams fireballs is the same as Daigo. Just because they use the same moves, it doesn't mean they're anywhere near as good.
If there are so many Adons with the same game as Gamerbee, why is he the only one who made it to the top 32 (and there were very few Adons in the tournament as a whole from what I've seen)?
PP doesn't mean a s*** but it gives a idea on how good your opponent is.
Example:
Poongko or Geom Modinside may have godly amount of PP and play good online/ranked. But can they handle the pressure that are in tournaments?
Being in a tournament is far more difficult than sitting in your home playing with no distractions. So no, not everyone with high PP automatically gonna win EVO.
BTW nice troll attempt. If you think that I consider myself as better than these players then you're nothing but a troll.
So you're saying that Justin lost because he isn't used to fighting in tournaments? The only real mistakes he made were the wiffed ultras in the first game, and those were just twitch reaction. The rest of his game was pretty classic Justin Wong. Gamerbee clearly held his composure and was just a better player than Justin for those 3 games.
@Jarkyttaa
I can't argue with that, but U2 shuts down many of Adon's specials, pokes and jump-ins. I don't know what happened to J.Wong but he failed and didn't demonstrate the power of U2.
When is J.Wong is at his best gamerbee won't be able to beat him that badly and easily.
I played enough to know that Rufus vs Adon is in Rufus' favor.
Daigo is consistently in the top 3 at every tournament even if he doesn't get 1st place. His clutch victories always amaze me. If a guy makes a clutch win once or twice, it can be considered a fluke or a lucky moment. He CONSISTENTLY does it, especially when he's down to his last pixel of health.And even when he loses 1st place, I have never heard him make any excuses about lag, counter characters, etc. He brushes it off and moves on.
I would have loved to see other Japanese players at this year's Evo, including Mago, Momochi, and Y24 (whoever he is). If Daigo wins this tournament, it can be possibly said that Y24 is the best Street Fighter player in the world 2010.
Daigo vs Arturo/Sabin $500 money matche first to 5 happening now.
@Hayate1984
When I'm at my best, I can shut down Justin Wong and Daigo. Too bad I'm never at my best lol.
Justin lost to two different players, that's the beauty of double elimination tournaments. It gives less room for flukes. That's not even mentioning that he had three matches (chances) with each of those two players. That's a total of 18 rounds or opportunities to consistently beat his opponents.
This year's Evo definitely proved that patience, dedication, and skill far outweight any counterpicking or character tiers.
@This year's Evo definitely proved that patience, dedication, and skill far outweight any counterpicking or character tiers.
In case you didn't know SSFIV changed that from vanilla. Tiers and counterpicks don't matter anymore, that's why Sagat never made it to top8. I doubt a honda or rose would make it so far if they played vanilla instead of SSFIV
great evo so far
----------------
http://gfbnews.blogspot.com/
can't wait for highlights. also sad to see no elfs or feis getting far in this tourny and also no ibuki which i find surprising
For those who missed the money matches, here's a very sloppy recap of what I remember, and I'll try and do a recap if I remember what happened. (sorry, it's 8 am here on the east coast and I stayed up all night watching the team spooky stream)
Daigo (Ryu) vs Hsien Chang (Dudley): 3-2 Daigo
Daigo was down 0-2 at first before he completely downloaded Hsien and came back and dominated.
Daigo (Ryu) vs Arturo "Sabin" Sanchez: 5-4 Daigo
This was the $500 money match that was a rematch from last year which Sabin won. Sabin played an extremely solid footsies game and was really frustrating Daigo, who was throwing out random dragon punches at one point. Sabin was up 4-3 at one point and won the first round in game 8, but Daigo clutched it out and took the game back. Game 9 was tense as hell and completely went down to the wire before Daigo took it.
Daigo (Ryu) vs Marn (Dudley): 5-2 Daigo
It was getting pretty late and both players were dropping some links, but after the first few games, Daigo downloaded Marn and took the last 3 in a row.
Daigo (Ryu) vs Kai (El Fuerte): 5-1 Daigo
Kai played well and took the second game, but Daigo made some clutch uppercuts and took the set.
Also, for the $100 buy-in tourney held before the money matches (Daigo didn't participate), Gamerbee def. Marn 3-1 in the grand finals. Gamerbee initially knocked Marn into the loser's bracket with his Adon vs Marn's Dudley. At the start of the Grand Finals, Marn chose to go with Rufus in the first round to "avenge" the defeat of JWong. After losing that match badly, he switched it up to C. Viper and took the next game. But Gamerbee adjusted and took the next 2 games to win the tourney. And that's it. I'm going to go get some sleep.
Daigo had money matches at the Salty Suite with Arturo/Sabin (Dhalsim), Kai (El Fuerte), Hsien Chang (Dudley), Marn (Dudley). He won all of his money matches. If you missed them you can view them later as they will uploaded on YouTube.
Also GamerBee won the 16 man tournament at the Salty Suite (Daigo didn't participate in this tourney).
Check here to be notified when the videos are uploaded on YouTube.
P.S. There were a couple other money matches with Daigo at the beginning but the stream kept cutting out so I don't know what really happened. Either that or I don't remember what happened in them. Safe to say that Daigo dominated though.
@ Hayate1984
Rufus's Ultra 2 doesnt shutdown all of Adons specials. Just a simple Jaguar Tooth can go right through Rufus's U2. Ive done it!, Its freakin hilarious when it happens...lol
Basically... GammerBee just out-played JWong. Being a Adon user myself, I was so happy to see a good Adon player do so well. And some1 beating JWong with him was just awesome.
I hope i can do just some of the stuff GamerBee can do with Adon to make my game better
@315
No way you can consider Y24 to be the best in the world if Diago wins EVO. Why would you? Just because Y beat Diago in a TEAM battle last week? That's like saying AndyOCR could beat all of Europe because he beat Justin once and Justin won ESWC.
I'd argue that the winner of the first-to-ten God's Garden may actually determine who the best is. But not everyone was allowed to participate in that event. Still, though, my guess is that the best player in the world is among the contestants playing in GG.
@315:
Y24 is a great chun-li player, but best player in the world?! He is a scrub compared to Nemo and Haneyama and they are just Chun-Li players. Watch more matches ffs.
The only player I could think of being able to topple Daigo at the moment is Makoto(Claw) and that because Claw is so much more improved in super. He OCV'd Tokido/Mago team in vanilla at last year's SBO. Also Sakonoko has busted on the scene out of nowhere so he could be a wildcard too.
@drmario112
Wong would've won the set if the chose U1 because he connected a EX messiah kick with 3 EX bar but couldn't combo into ultra because he chose U2. Gamerbee if I remember had like 15-20% life left. Wong tried instead to do a LP. Snake Strike but whiffed it.
I'm tired of this bull****, both of them are good players so f*** ME and everyone who takes this game too seriously. People lose now and then so let's enjoy EVO and leave this behind.
@334 SabishiiRyuu
"Sakonoko has busted on the scene out of nowhere so he could be a wildcard too."
Sako didn't bust out of no where he's been in the scene for a long time. He has beaten Daigo in several games over the years. But when SF4 came out he just played online at home and didn't go to tournies.
@Slaystation @SabishiiRyuu
I didn't mean to make that a declarative statement. More like a thought to ponder since in that team tournament, Daigo was undefeated in all of his matches until he faced Y24. I'm also factoring in that it was such a recent defeat too (just last week). I don't know anything about Y24 except that he was the only person who recently beat Daigo.
To anyone that thinks they are a pro: You ain't a pro until you go a tournies and make it in top 3 (money spots). Pro = GET PAID to play. So unless you are sponsored or won money in tournies, you ain't pro.
please link the match between Vangief and J.Wong according to eventhubs it was a great match.
Did Justin Wong go to the Salty Suite last night for money matches? I fell asleep after the Arturo/Gamerbee stuff.
-JB
Justin Wong lost because he mind f**k himself after the lost to vangief. He got cocky cus hes never been challenged at any other tournament. Will everyone else was playing like crazy before EVO. Justins trying to be an ultimate gamer so that means he cant be EVO champ. At least not in Super.
Also GamerBee is probably gonna lose to Henry Cen. Honda is just a pain for everyone know especially the knew cast. And Henry Cen has a super solid Honda. Plus he already beat him once.
But hopefully it will be a good match and not a blow out.
Lol at all the Justin Wong haters. We've been watching him winning for years and he has lost before but he has earned his title as best SF player in US. Not making top 8 at Evo doesn't make him less of a phenomenon, just more human.
There is just so much we don't know about GamerBee that his run on Evo could be just a good run like Inthul or AndyOCR. Most of his matches were close and he is in the loser's bracket. I do put him at Justin Wong's level based on his performance so far though.
Vangief is an up-and-coming player that will be at Justin's level if he keeps it up. Definitely the best Zangief player US has seen yet but I wouldn't put him as more skilled than Justin until he has beaten him a couple more times.
I know. I found this one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXPaLF...
Justin Wong is a great player but he's not the best in the world. For years with have been Justin Wong playing against the same pool of players and characters and winning but now that the game has become a true international game and EVO a true international tournament, finally, there is no he could win.
@#292/Hayate1984:
Yeah, and most Ryus I fight online play *exactly* like Daigo. There's more to skill than just being able to use the best tactics and combos, you still have to be able to win with them. And the differences responsible for that are a lot harder to see than a cross-up MK, cr. HP, EX Tatsu, Ultra.
I do find the whole upset very amusing though. Adon isn't exactly bad, but his options are a tad on the limited side... yet Justin Wong, widely regarded as the second best SSFIV player in the world, using the best SSFIV character, couldn't handle it. Quite a blow to the ego, at least assuming JWong's ego is even capable of sustaining damage.
EG SHOULD DROP JUSTIN WONG!!!!!!!
First of all, he is COCKY and now he LOST too!!!! He trashed ADON so much, but in the end, ADON crashed him.....
*JWONG thought Adon was the weakest character
*He said Adon has no links ??????
*Jaguar kick unsafe on this game ?
*Adon is A$$
*HE'S BAD.... lol....
*Adon has no combos ????
*Only 1 combo ????
*No mix ???
Adon FTW
Enjoy Evo
"Yeah, and most Ryus I fight online play *exactly* like Daigo."
well now THAT is just not true. throwing fireballs all day and knowing a link isnt playing *exactly* like daigo. its trying to emulate a play style and failing. there is a huge difference between knowing why you threw a fireball (even if he gets punished he knows why and has a plan, it just doesnt always work. the PSN scrub just throws them because it works for daigo) and trying to play like daigo.
anyway, everyone is trashing j.wong and it makes no sense. everyone loses at street fighter. EVERYONE. daigo hasnt won every tourney he entered either. hell, tokido, sabin, valle, choi, sanford kelly, all elimintated from evo as well as j.wong. there is some good competition this year, this isnt a bad thing about ANYONE eliminated, when you look at it. that there are so many good players now is nothing short of amazing, and IMO if you dont talk trash you just arent as fun. its why i like j.wong so much. not because he's good, but because he's an arrogant prick.
IMO anyone who is talented enough can pick the worst character in a fighting game and make them incredible. I'm glad to see someone hold it down it with adon he's my fav character is ssfiv regardless of the hate out there for him. I believe that guy also beat daigo before online ? Justin is a cocky mofo he got what he deserve still dude is talented can't knock him
Why is there so much trolls in the world today? People who hate on Justin Wong or Daigo or any of the players there? These are the trolls that make it seem that they can do better or that the players at EVO are scrubs(ex : Hayate).
I don't know why you guys like trolling...?
@Flawless
Links and combos are two totally different things. Target combos (Chun's j.HP-HP), cancel combos (Blanka's HP Ball XX Super) and auto combos (Seth's spin kicks) have nothing to do with linking. All links are combos, not all combos are links.
That said, you're arguing with someone who has the diction and wordflow of one of those people screaming at their hands about how the moon landing was faked and JFK did 9/11, and whose ideas are just as retarded as they are psychotically presented, so...
While I'll admit it's hilarious that Wong lost to Adon after trash talking him, Wong still a great player. Everybody loses matches, he just picked the wrong matches to lose lol. And no, I'm not a fanboy, but I'm not a hater either.
Just cause you lose doesn't mean the person that beat you is better. It's like saying Rulon Gardner is a better wrestler than Alexander Karelin. But maybe Wong will really step up his game now, either that or we watch him slowly descend into madness, either way should be entertaining.
@n00b_saib0t
You sort of answered your own question. You wondered why everyone disliked Justin Wong and in the end you mentioned that he's an 'arrogant prick' (your words). I hate to break the news to you, but most people don't like 'arrogant pricks'. And when an 'arrogant prick' loses, people get satisfaction out of that. When an 'arrogant prick' has to swallow his own words, and in this case his assessment of Adon, people get satisfaction out of that. It doesn't help the fact that he tends to make excuses for his losses. I'm sure we'll hear something from him within the next few weeks, ie his cat died that morning or screen lag.
You're right though that everyone loses, including Daigo. But Daigo usually stays within the top 3 spots, so it's a bit of a surprise that the number 1 US player did not make it to the top 8. And it goes to show you that the fighting game community is expanding on a global scale. I've never seen this many foreign players at Evo before. Have we had Korean or Taiwanese players in the top 8 at EVO before?
Justin's attitude about trash talking, winning, or losing is relatively acceptable for a 15 year old, but not for a 24 year old. If he wants to be a respectable PROFESSIONAL gamer, he needs to start acting PROFESSIONALLY otherwise businesses are less likely to sponsor him. I can't imagine any corporate entity wanting someone like that to be the face of their brand. The fighting game community has a love/hate relationship with Justin.
On another note about business, it's important to mention that Daigo has somewhat attained a legendary status among the fighting game community, whether anybody likes or dislikes him. Daigo's EVO moment from 2004 popularized the fighting game genre almost like an unintentional viral marketing campaign. After 8 years of not producing a Street Fighter game, Capcom (along with MadCatz and small shops like Lizard Lick) had a huge incentive to pull him out of retirement and back into the competitive fighting game scene when they released SF4. He's a marketing tool. Regardless of who he has lost to in the past, his name, his face, and his gameplay videos have huge appeal. It doesn't matter how good any other player is and whether or not they've beaten Daigo, no other player from Street Fighter has attained that type of status.
I don't remember what my original point was, but I'll stop there lol.
Justin Wong losing to Gamerbee ins't a big deal imo. Gamerbee have proven his skills against the top japanese players like Daigo etc.
Justin should have won against Vangief, but it was a tough matchup for Rufus against Zangief, and the match could have gone either way.
Even Daigo had huge problems against Lamerbois Guile. Daigo won 2-0, but both games were super close.
@#370/n00b_saib0t:
I never said they throw fireballs all day, did I? They like fireballs of course, and doing SRK if you try to jump in, but that stuff is just to build meter and mess with the scrubs. They're actually happier on the offensive, doing crossups and either combos or block strings/tick throws at every opportunity, with an occasional overhead thrown in for good measure.
You seem to be under the impression I'm comparing Daigo to the stereotypical fireball spamming lamer who plays Ryu online, the kind who air Tatsu away when you get too close and lose automatically if someone can counter their one trick? Well, I'm not, and I'm actually mildly insulted you'd think so. No, I don't think Daigo = fireball spam, nor do I automatically think anyone who plays Ryu or beats me must be like him. These people really are doing the same things at the same spacing that you can see in the videos.
@Sakulagi
It may appear that Daigo came 'super close' with Lamerboi, but he didn't lose. Lamerboi choked that last second and everyone knew it, including Lamerboi (just watch his reaction). That's Daigo's signature, he's a clutch winner. It wasn't a fluke, he does it CONSISTENTLY. And that's what makes superstars great in their respective sport (ie Jordan), they consistently don't choke at high pressure moments. That's the definition of a clutch player.
@378 - oh, i understand why people hate him, i just think that its dumb how everyone is quick to jump on him when he loses. like i said, everyone loses. on top of that, everyone has their assessment of a character. we're at a point in SSF4 where its still new, and people arent sharing EVERYTHING about a character. i didnt see the gamerbee v jwong match but i would assume there was at least one new trick or something jwong didnt know how to deal with, plus gamerbee being a really good adon. its quite understandable for him, or anyone, to lose to adon at this point. jwong obviously wasnt the only one that lost to him, right? anyway like i said i get why people hate him (even though i think jwong is the fighting game version of a pro wrestling heel/bad guy and just acts the part for attention, which is why i like his attitude), i just dont see the point of jumping on the "lol jwong lost" bandwagon.
@380 - not at all, i was saying that most ryu's online try to be like daigo, not that you think diago is just a fireball spammer. i think most ryu's online see how daigo plays, but dont understand how he thinks or why his tactics work. i didnt say daigo is a scrub, i said most (not all) online ryu's try to emulate his strategy and fail.
@375: it was supposed to be his year? says who? do you have a vid of him saying: "this is my year, Im going to win EVO"?
I don't really get the whole J.Wong bashing spree. Yes, he said that Adon was weak. So what? that's his opinion based on what he played. He had early access to the game and gave his opinion on not only Adon, but also Makoto, Dudley, Ibuki etc... I bet that if he didn't, you guys would be calling him selfish: "he doesn't share his knowledge with the community, bla bla". oh, the hypocrysy. you guys need to STFU. you can criticise him for his so-called arrogance but not because he voiced his opinion.
to Flawless and BWBoyToucher:
I dont know which one is Mrs. Justin Wong or the mistress... LMFAO (HE IS OUT!!!! WHO CARES WHAT THE WIFEY SAYS)
Two words...."MOVE ON!!!"
to BWBoyToucher:
Predator (your name) lol...Word salad does not make you smarter...LMAO!!!!!
@387
Dude don't hate on the Beast, man, i want the best man to win, cept jwong hes a douche, btw wasnt there mike vs daigo match at seasons beatings 4? This should be a good match/rematch
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxFGt6...
LOL JUSTIN WONG
tatsunoko vs capcom final just end, marn take it, im disappoint on keits for losing to jwong, the final was close, but kbeast was much better than marn, marn zero is ok, nothing new or really impresive on his zero seem like he dont know how to use it, kbeast could have wont if he only keep batsu, dropping the first game of second match was just wrong, congratulation on the other player for giving a great show
i dont understand why people are holding it against justin that he bashed on adon. wasnt that before the game was out? werent people saying rose's ultra 2 sucked before they actually got to test it in training mode and figured stuff out with it. W/E i guess people just want to find a reason to hate on him. People need to give justin the credit he deserves. He is one of the most consistent players in the U.S, but people constantly bash him for losing to daigo...as if thats a bad thing.
the female ssf4 lol...you can feel the awkwardness in the commentary booth. they should invite choco blanka next year to the females and the actual main tournament
Female SF players are very interesting to watch. Kayane and BurnYourBra are very aggressive when it comes to their play style.
Wow, I made it into the battle logs. Too bad it is just of me losing but hey, I made the notes :)
To asdfasdf (#403)
Yes that is before the game is out but he has access to it already before the public and he shouldn't have made that statement before he fully tries out the character.
Do you ever think why many people hate on him? Don't you think there is a reason for everything? Justin needs to work on his public image...Justin needs to why people don't like him...and why people like Daigo better?
It is just weird that people cheered against one of their own...
On a another thought, Justin needs a wake-up call...I bet he totally underestimate Vangief and Gamerbee...it is part of the reason why he lost and also the rest of the world is catching up to the top players.
Why the hell is this Sessler guy commentating? He's completely terrible. Get James Chen or Yipes on the mic. Absolutely terrible.
Im really impress with Infiltration. This guy is fighting his way out of the losing bracket.
Seth should commentate alone that other guy is annoying
The only thing I was disappointed about is the fact stream went off every so often when a cruical match was on including the last match between Ricky and Daigo. Even though I can watch it later on youtube, etc it was very annoying. Other than that, gj guys.
level up sucks.. worst streaming service EVER!!!!!!!!! Don't quit your day jobs...
I really wanted gamerbee to fight the beast in the final. He got closed but his character is just too hard to win against Honda who can stop his air movement with just one button. It kind of sucks. oh well... maybe next time he will have another character in his pocket... or maybe (even better) Capcom would improve Adon when the arcade version comes out.
This feels like the Nixon tapes thanks Level up trying to boost their youtube channels post the whole damn tournament I want to see Hakan and Vangief
This tournament sucked a LOT more than the last one... Bunch of people I don't know in the top 8, and then Daigo. It was too predictable.
I want to see Gamerbee or Infiltration face Daigo in the finals. I didn't expect the stream will go down during Richy and Daigo's match. I'll watch it when they upload the video and see what happened.
1. levelup stream has failed all 25k of its viewers, but I doubt that's gonna stop them from streaming or people watching the stream
2. even tho ricky was somewhat toe to toe with daigo, he was missing combos left and right.
3. Adam sessler sucks, good thing seth killian was there to catch his balding head
4. Daigo is just too good
Clovr4lyfe, ur still trolling because you didn't put individual skills in the calculation. Daigo is a BEAST. How many ryus reached top 16? Only one. If you know anything about Street Fighter you would realize how great a level he was playing at. Bow down btch, keep getting owned by Ryu scrubs online.
@Catalyst:
aAa Kayane
In marvel it was EMP Yipes and EMP Sanford
@phinnycupcake
What the hell are you talking about this was the bess tourny i eva saw. Only problems were the stream.
The first one was to laggy,
The second would drop because to many people came on it.
Just because people you dont know werent in the top 8 makes it a bad tourny??? Everyone in the top 8 was great, all the matches were pretty tight except a few were the match up led to a steam roll.
EVO2K10=BEST EVO EVER
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJ...
theres the full finals video.
lol @ stream
g4 should have aired the tourney on TV instead of gracing us with pointless ep of cops, cheaters, etc.
To Ricky Ortiz & Mike Ross if your reading this, Thanx for holding it down for the US, even though you didn't bring home the gold I pride myself in seeing you guys show the world the States is more than just Tier whores, & predictable spammers.
And to Gamerbee & Vangief, thanx for showing foo's that it's not always about the character in the battle, but the player behind the character. I'll use that inspiration and take a chance online with someone other than my usuals.
Pretty dull EVO overall; some nice players made a name for themselves like Gamerbee, but aside from that... kind of the same old. Without Justin against Daigo in the finals, there wasn't much to get excited about.
Daigo's hadokens until they jump then shoryuken, back to hadokens, wait for a chance to FADC->Ultra, rinse-repeat has gotten a little boring after all this time. Daigo is still #1, but unless someone else decides to mirror with Ryu to counter him--the best character in the game overall, without a doubt, as far as match-ups are concerned--it's unlikely Daigo's really going to lose this.
I can only hope we get some new characters for this game by next year.
@Axefresh
Level Up stream was great all weekend minus a few hiccups. I don't blame them at all, it just happens sometimes. Match is up on YouTube now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_jAoG...
It's so painful to see Daigo win over and over..
@492
Ricky Ortiz not a tier whore? Whatever you say, man.
@Morune
How is this year dull? The only predictable part was Daigo winning. Everything else was unexpected.
As for hadokens until they jump then shoryuken. You really think it's that easy? There are so many ways to punish fireball or get around them it's not even funny. Ryu won because Daigo used Ryu, not because of some stupid hadoukens to shoryuken crap.
Mike ross was so crazy in his infiltration fight. Loved that one 18 hit combo he did where Mike just mauled infiltration to the corner, haven't seen mike ross play this high a level before.
Kinda tight it messed up at the end and couldn't see the final battle but good to see daigo win once again they just need a better set up of camera next year and hopefully just show it on g4 live. Was that Ricky Ortiz dude gay? He sure act and look like it lol
Props to the top 5 players for repping 4 different countries...all in all it was NOT the Japanese domination that a lot of people were expecting. This is a sign that the world is more or less on even grounds now, I mean none of these players got there by fluke.
I think people really need to be giving Level Up props instead of being salty that a free service didn't go off without a hitch. They provided solid stream for the whole weekend aside from the first couple of hours and the final match, coupled with generally top-quality announcers and tons of foresight so that stream viewers didn't have to watch button checks. If you really want their streams to go off without a hitch, I'm sure you won't mind paying for the service.
Everyone needs to chill out, stream went down because it was almost hitting 30K. It was a good tournament, just USA didn't take it doesn't mean it was a bad tournament. There was some great display of high level play and the amount of hype was crazy.
All an all, everyone had fun... except the Salty people
Go ahead and pick who's salty =P
Thanks so much Level Up for posting a terrific stream!!! yes, there were a few difficultys, but overall we loved it and stayed tuned the entire time!!! I cant believe there are so many ungrateful people complaining! If it wasnt for them, we wouldnt have even gotten footage until later. Thanks again Level Up, i hope some rude people dont discourage you from doing this in the future!!! :)
@Jarkyttaa
Stop trolling. There are tons of regionals that can pull off a decent stream. It's nice that Evo goes the extra mile with tons of cameras and whatnot, but really unnecessary. It's something that can be done on a laptop with a one-time investment of $30 for a capture card and about $20 for the appropriate cables. Hell, with HDTVs you can get acceptable video quality simply from pointing a cell phone camera at the screen.
I could gladly kick you in the nuts for free, so I hope if I ever choose to do so you give me props rather than being salty about it.
they really shoulda had tv cameras for this one to show live on G4. This woulda been some very compelling TV, especially the Top 8.
The stream wouldn't crash because of too many people. The stream only has to send data to two locations: stickam and ustream. From there, it's the gigantic stickam/ustream servers that handle the traffic, and those servers snicker at 30K viewers the way Daigo snickers at a pad Chun.
The stream crashed because Evo hired shît to do a man's work, plain and simple.
I was hoping Vangief,Gamer Bee and Infiltration would of won there matches they just barely lost. I dislike Rufus and seeing another predictable Daigo vs. Rufus match is getting cliche now I already know who's going to win. Ortiz and JWong aren't going to beat Daigo with Rufus. Personally I think Gamer Bee or Infiltration had the best chance of defeating Daigo. Daigo has had problems with good Akuma's before. Also Daigo and Gamer Bee have fought each other like 20+ times online at least with both defeating each other in close matches.
Japan wouldn't even be in top 8 if it weren't for daigo. Daigo is on another level, the rest of japan is about even with the rest of the world.
I give props to Ross for trying against the beast but more props for beating Gamerbee that was an incredible match. As for Ortiz and Vangief seriously it should be one character in the tourney IMO how can you continue to say the game is balanced if they still allow counter picking it defeats the purpose wasn't that the reason for Ultra II to begin with. The minute Ortiz made it I knew Daigo was going to take it shame Infiltration lost to Ortiz I was hoping for him to make it to the finals.
It's not the haters, it's the sponsores. Who do you think will give LevelUp work after this? They name will ring badly for months in the community. They seriously phucked.
Level-Up did a great job after switching to Ustream. Next year, they should consider splitting it between two different streams to handle the load. Nonetheless, they did a fine job and did far better than most others would with that kind of pressure.
@bamx: If you know the ending to a movie, the rest really has trouble holding up. Outside of the emergence of some nice players and Justin getting knocked out by Gamerbee, and Gamberbee then lighting up people pretty consistently, there wasn't much to it. It was decent enough, but a far cry from last year.
I never claimed his base strategy was easy, but it is predictable. Very. No one can beat it because it is a very clean match-up against much of the roster. Super 4 is a very well-balanced game, but Daigo's strategy is not one that can be beat by a great many characters. Coupled with his execution and adaptability, we end up with a very predictable result most of the time he's involved.
I used to be very excited to see Daigo matches--just not quite as much any longer. It doesn't mean I dislike what he does in matches or detract anything from his accomplishments; he's effective, and anyone who says otherwise isn't approaching it the right way. Simply put: I'm not entertained by him in supposedly "intense" situations just because it's him playing in a tournament. Ricky is a great player, but he wasn't going to win. People can say what they want, yet the only time it will ever really be exciting is when it comes down to what we had last year and Justin holding his own for so long.
@Krabe: Love it! Just because someone disagrees it means they're a troll, eh? EventHubs has always been a shining example of the internet's... brightest. Keep up the good work; dunno how this place would last without you.
@N: GamerBee would've been very exciting, and Justin as well (although I don't think he would've won, it would've been a better match than we got with Daigo vs. Ricky). All the same, we shouldn't forget about Arturo. He and Daigo have had extremely close first to five matches and I think he could beat him in the tournament format.
@527 Naw man, Clovr's been spamming the same complaints about Ryu with nothing to back it up all over EventHubs. I would agree that the end was predictable as soon as Ortiz made it to finals, though. Daigo has played against Rufus way too many times to keep falling for the same tricks. Though, I honestly think that Gamer Bee would have made a close match, since he's taken sets off Daigo online.
@Mourne
"the only time it will ever really be exciting is when it comes down to what we had last year and Justin holding his own for so long"
JWong has yet to defeat Daigo? When makes it more exciting than Ricky? Same thing really.
Daigo was a step up from the American players when it came to reading moves. Infiltration was also very good at reading but he has to rely on more shenanigans with Akuma. Even if Justin did stay in winners he would've most likely lost again due to his predictability with Rufus that made him lose to Vangief in the first place. I believe his loss to Vangief shook his match with Gamerbee well enough from the fact that he got put into Losers. Justin wasn't playing straightforward against Gamerbee, that coupled with his knowledge of the match up and you have an eliminated Wong. Everybody should've seen the difference between Ortiz and Daigo. Even after Ortiz took a win from Daigo, he won it back in a matter of minutes as if it were nothing. Daigo was able to outread Ortiz when it comes to fighting patterns. Some good examples are when Daigo used a quick focus attack dash to absorb Rufus's crouching fierce and land one of the beast's combos, immediately after Ryu's wake-up. The biggest highlight of this tournament is Vangief and Gamerbee. Vangief is possibly the best Zangief I've yet seen and his execution is flawless especially on a pad. Although I respect Wong, There's nothing more humiliating than Wong losing to a Zangief padder. The walk-up 720 motion is the greatest sight to see. Gamerbee shocked everyone but to me I felt that it was quite obvious. Adon is hardly played online and his moves are so very awkward compared to the rest of the roster with his mix-up potential, amazing quick-stand speed and high damage potential. His playstyle was definitely 'downloaded' by many players today from the matches, but Gamerbee beating some of the greatest players in the U.S. is inevitable because they have little knowledge of the match-up. Nevertheless, it is still very impressive for an Adon to beat Rufus, or many other high tier characters when Adon himself is considered low-mid tier at best. I consider him low tier because he's a very advanced player, and the 450 scrubs channeling through the Adon forums of SRK can try to be like Gamerbee but most of them will fail because of the difficulty of playing Adon.
The best way to summarize this EVO tournament(SSF4) is simply this.
"If you thought Adon was bad, you'd be Wong."
"NAME ONE THING RYU Capcom took away from Ryu besides the super on screen nonsense"
Trade DP to Ultra
@ "JWong has yet to defeat Daigo? When makes it more exciting than Ricky? Same thing really."
Except Justin knocked Daigo into losers during the grand final last year and stayed a competitor all the way to the very end. There was some genuine suspense last year--not so, this year.
Again, Justin has beaten Daigo before: Seasons Beatings 4. 2-0 with Fei Long. Daigo came back later and won out of the Losers Bracket. In Daigo's own words on how it went down: http://www.capcom-unity.com/s-kill/bl...
I've pointed this out to you before, but you have considerable difficulty taking on more than one piece of information at a time, it seems... Hopefully you'll pick up on it this time.
@ 534 Clovr4Lyf:
Seriously, you're completely clueless - if not plain trolling, for which you should be banned right away.
Higher than normal defense? What does that mean? Escape potential? What are teleport characters then, cheating? Great recovery from "spamming" (yeah, Daigo's a spammer, right) fireballs? Do you happen to read frame datas? You should just stop this nonsense and actually LEARN the basis of this game, if you think 2-hit DP is a boost.
And lmao, complaining @ Ono asking for one of SF signature moves? What should have he asked for, in a photo? A Tatsumaki or a Blanka ball?
My bet: You get your ass handed to you on daily basis by scrubby XBL Ryus.
BTW, anyone know if RedRappers Cody song is up anywhere? It was so darling!
Clovr, Daigo would make any character look overpowered. Here's what your comments would be for each character he played:
Rufus - "OP MESSIAH KICK! DIVE KICK SPAM!"
Gief - "ALL HE HAS TO DO IS MASH. GRAB-SPAMMING!"
Blanka - "Higher than normal Defense, Attack, Speed, Priority, Stun, Escape potential on ground or air, great recovery from BLANKA BALL-SPAMMING!"
Dan - "HE HAS AN EZmode combo into ULTRA!!! AND HE HAS OP TAUNT!"
Why don't you pick up an overpowered like Daigo and make god-like reads and win Evo 2011? Maybe if you won, some troll sitting home all day would claim how overpowered your character is.
Feeding trolls is fun. =)
Adon is bad compared to almost the entire cast. He doesn't have good links/combos and he has to take risky chances just to get in. Gamerbee is a fantastic player, and this isn't taking away from his ability, but the reason he succeeded so well was the general unfamiliarity with the match-up.
This is just like the Fei Long/Inthul situation from ECT. People got caught knowing little about the match-up and paid for it. Inthul hasn't done nearly as well since ECT, and I think it's because people went home and hit that training mode.
Don't get me wrong, Gamerbee and Inthul are both outstanding players and deserve their success. I'm glad to see new faces in the top 8 at any tournament, but let's be real... One person's success with a character does not make that character high tier.
daigo is clutch.. he's like kobe.. gettin all the rings..
jwong is like lebron.. wins during the regular season, but can't win in the finals.. even on a new team..
oh yeah, @Clovr
Ono has a Blanka toy in all of his pictures that he posts, and has stated that Dhalsim is his favorite player. How is him "mashing DPs" and asking us to do a SRK pose for a picture "straight favoritism"?
We get it, you hate Ryu. These complaints are kind of questionable at best. Do you know how to use this site? If you did, you would see that Ryu's stun and stamina are base line/average at 1000. Most of his normals have longer recover than Ken's normals. Not to mention the non-focusable double hit DP... Akuma? Ken? Sakura? Do you hate them too?
These baseless, and bordering on whiny, complaints just show how little you actually know about the game. If you want to vent and use caps to show how loud you would be in real life, don't expect any of us to take you seriously.
even as I was watching it I never had any clue how rising jaguars stuffs honda headbutts
You can catch replays of the finals and semifinals at http://www.youtube.com/user/evo2kvids. Videos are being uploaded right now.
oh Clovr4Lyf, predictability does count since thats what seperates Daigo from the rest of the Ryus out there. Top 32 only had 3 Ryus (Daigo, Alex Valle, and John Choi). LIJoe only switched to Ryu after he found out it was sagat and not him that was winning tournaments last year and his predictable self still lost. Ryu needs that YOMI factor to be an unstoppable beast, something that Daigo has which is why only the combination of Daigo using Ryu could jokingly be considered godtier, not just ryu by himself.
@Mourne
I think most people woulda rather saw Daigo vs. Justin again simply because of the history and rivalry between the two. (Not to take anything away from Ortiz, Gamerbee, and Vangief).
I watch Daigo for the same reasons I watch Tiger Woods and M.Jordan...because they represent the sport at its HIGHEST level. When Woods was cleaning up golf tournaments, people didn't think that was boring - more people watched. When Jordan won 6 Championships, most people didn't think it was boring - more people watched.
You're just a Justin fanboy who's more articulate than most of us here. That's fine - stop being in denial.
@People saying that Adon is weak because he lacks good links. Links =/= a great character. Dhalsim is mid to low-high tier (generally) and he very rarely uses links or even cancels. Gamerbee did have a slight advantage in that not everyone knew the matchup, but the game has been out for a few months, we're not near done knowing the character. His footsie and spacing game set him apart. Jaguar kick can be unsafe on block in some situations, but very few people ever punished him on block, and not many even punished it as it was coming down. He constantly out-spaced his opponent so his j.kick applied pressure without giving up too much opportunity. His only real risky move was how often he hit his uppercut, which is completely unsafe on block. I see him as the kind of opposite of Dhalsim. Dhalsim can play a very safe controlling game as long as he keeps his opponent at s.fierce range. Adon can do much the same when the opponent is at ~1/4 screen away and has several tools to stay there. Realistically, I only see his stock rising as people get used to the spacing needed to optimize the character.
Don't be a racist lordcyrix, Daigo is asian and the low res stream didn't help things. Its the racist camera trick all over again. http://www.time.com/time/business/art...
@ #550 Clovr4Lyf
I get it, you are both clueless AND trolling.
Why are you complaining with trade Ultra now? And why don't you mention the fact that characters like Chun or Dudley have a more reliable trade into Ultra? I haven't even seen a trade into Ultra the whole Evo, it's not a factor at all at high level play.
Ryu's fireball recovery is NOT fast, it's even crap compared to Guile's booms. Jumping in a fireball-happy opponent is piece of cake if you have little above average reading and footsies - and being a jump in on a poor spaced fireball, it's likely to lead to big damage.
Why shouldn't we mention predictability? Ryu has no vortex whatsoever, his offensive mixup is simply horrible. The fact that Daigo annihilate people who cannot do a thing about it is just proof of his extreme set of skills and reaction.
Ryu is not overpowered, get over it. The only one wrong here is you, who cannot handle this character at all and has to whine here on Eventhubs to vent his massive frustration.

Japan wouldn't even be in top 8 if it weren't for daigo. Daigo is on another level, the rest of japan is about even with the rest of the world.
Are you on crack? Momochi's Akuma would of smashed everyone
@BWBoyToucher
I think you're right. Ustream and stickam didn't go down, and they're the servers that handle the masses. Speaking from the technical side, I really did think Level Up screwed up. Their job was to simply stream to those two sites and let the rest take care of handling 30k+ viewers. I'm not entirely sure what equipment they were using, but it could have also been the internet service they had at Caesar's unless they were using satellite. And if it was the latter, they were asking for it (satellite has horrible latency, regardless of bandwidth).
@Mourne
You may think Justin won a game against Daigo in Season's beatings, but I don't. From what I've seen, Daigo doesn't mind dragging the game out to the last round even if it means putting himself in the losers bracket as long as he continues to play against the same player. The more matches they play, the better Daigo gets regardless of opponent. He's generally a clutch winner and it's obvious that he enjoys long games (GodsGarden). I've never seen him show any emotion whether he is winning or losing.
Just ignore Clovr4Lyf guys.
@WinstonChurchill
I wouldn't discredit the other Japanese players too quickly. Momochi, Mago, and Uryo haven't played many tournaments in America.
@uHuRu85
I actually agree with you. He's a great Adon player but he had a strong advantage with nobody knowing anything about Adon. Like Inthul, he will not perform as well in the next major tournament. He just got a lot of attention for being the guy who knocked out Justin. I personally think Vangief was more impressive than Gamerbee.
@576
loser who did that will have to play with it with the lights out, at his house....
drmario112 thats cause of a little thing called single versus double elims. If japan would stop this insane one match, loser goes home without second chances BS then that would be a fair comparison. If this EVO Japan rumor is true, then we will see a more fair fight.
Daigo and Justin did a first to 10 at seasons beatings and Daigo beat him 10 games to 2.
@ 581 FarkAydeGhil420
It's not actually a rumor, it was announced live at the Evo (the video about it was pretty funny, with, like, japanese players doing painful expressions upon being eliminated lol).
IIRC it said 11-12 september, can anyone confirm?
so how do we know who won the gold fightstick. im talking about the people who were watching the event at home. they said theyd give out a gold fightstick to one lucky viewer.
Cool, that coon mike ross didnt win any thing nice.
@ Clovr4Lyf:
Jesus Christ you're such a scrub and crybaby. Ryu's dp is not a god tier move like it used to in vanilla. I don't know what you're btching really. I really think you're such a crybaby because your scubby tactics can't get around Ryu's fireball zoning game. You CAN get through Ryu's fireball game by simply focus absorbing it even when Ryu does a down medium kick into a fireball two hit combo. I'm not sure if you noticed, Daigo will not end his combo (when it's blocked) with a fireball after he hits away his opponents. He'll end it with a down medium kick simply because if he does a non EX fireball afterwards, his opponent can focus absorbs (if done accurately) it and dash in for a grab or combo. You say you read frame datas (so you say) so you should have noticed a gap in between Ryu's combo where it's possible to absorb it and go in for a hit. Just like when someone gets dp'ed for a miss timed combo. Learn it before you start bashing, in your own words, Capcom's "golden child" you scrub. btw, predictability does count. Actually it counts in every fighting game. That's one of the ways to counter idiot. Fireballs build meter because it's a SPECIAL move! Altogether you're just a Ryu hater because you can't around his moves.
I forgot to mention you can always counterpick. Why do you think Justin started picking U2 against fireball characters?
@ Clover4Lyf
I can understand where you are coming from.... so I'm not going to slag you off :P
I personally don't really notice that Ryu is OP but of course I always find it frustrating when hit by an easy set-up ultra. Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. But with time, I have found my own personal way around all his tricks.
Maybe you should play AS ryu. If you do so, you are bound to find out some holes in his game even if he does have obvious strong points.
I remember with fondness all my vs. 'OP' Sagat wins back in vanilla (probably about 90% win rate). Having focused on figuring out his weak areas, I was actually happy when I saw that I was about to play an online OP Sagat (and subsequently dead Sagat). I eventually became more 'scared' of Cammy then I was of Sagat/Ryu/Rufus/Balrog
Who is your main anyway?
@590 Is that you starslay3r? Chick was hating on Mike Ross all weekend.
i think this just proves that daigo is the worlds best player.. not even going to the losers bracket in a tournament like evo is ridiculous.. i remember that video he made before evo where he said everyone is on an even playing field, since the release date was the same in japan and america, and he was going to train hard to win it all.. didn't justin have this game 3 months before everyone?? he didn't even make top 8..
i'm sure if it was someone other than Ricky in the end, he still would win.. the other player would have to win 6 games.. he's just too good at the mind games..
Who does Clovr main? He does a lot of bitching but not alot of trying to fix his own game to be better. If capcom dumbed down every character so you had the advantage in every match would you stop crying? Prolly not. Here's a link to a post on SRK that Clovr needs to read, and anyone else that cries about matchups and this move or that move being unfair. http://shoryuken.com/f176/you-can-lea...
@Clover4Lyf:
Keep your trolling. It seems like you're talking based on what you would think will happen without trying it. I mostly main Ryu and when I mirror another Ryu, it works, granted I don't do it all the time because a dp will sometimes trade or even counter (an EX dp) you. A typical non professional player (like you and I) will not expect someone to absorb and dash in to attack. It also depends where you're at to your opponent. If you're too far, absorbs the fireball, dashes in for an attack, that second fireball come out and hit or even worst, a dp fadc ultra 1.
I really enjoyed it when Daigo threw ricky OUT of the corner while dazed, it was a nice mind move and I'm not sure if he did u due to combo scaling or to set up next moves or just to eff with his head(or all 3), but I liked it. a lot.
The more I think of it, t was probably to setup the following distance game mostly.
Clover4lyf is a troll ignore that guy. But this proves Daigo is the best player in the world because he won EVO without going to losers and because Ryu is a difficult character to play at a world class level. Before all of you jump on me for saying Ryu is not hard to win with hear me out.
Ryu is a very easy character to play with and win with at scruby and average levels of play but the higher you go up on in levels of play the harder he is to win with. This is because Ryu is such a basic character that he has nothing to exploit like many other characters in this game. Look at Rufus for example, high damage, great ultras, high stamina. Rufus is a very easy character to exploit at world class levels of play that is why Justin is so good with him (lets forget EVO cus he wasnt so good with him there).
Ryu on the other hand has nothing to exploit. Average damage, average stamina, average ultras (well ultra), he is an average character and thats what makes Daigo such an amazing player. Ryu is completely dependent on how good the player is and Daigo went through all of EVO without losing.
If you see Daigo play he has to use psychic tactics and alot of guessing and mind reading to win games. When he played Ricky he was taking alot of risk by throwing out so many DP's, but all of this was because he knew what Ricky was going for and figured him out quick.
Daigo is the best player in the world because he maid it through a 2,000 man tournament with Ryu.
Catalyst didn't afrolegends beat Daigo in hdr and then lost to snakeeyez after?
Well, I happen to be out of state with no internet (writing this from an apple store) and I come back to some unexpected results. Daigo winning is not a huge surprise, but Justin being eliminated so early on is surprising. I also expected Eita and Tokido to place a little higher. Good to see some other players gtrabbing the top spots for a change. Damn I wish I could have been on the stream when Justin lost, I bet the chat went apes**t.
@615
pretty accurate. ryu is a special character, like ken and akuma basically (except in this game he is the best of the 3). what makes it hard to play ryu is that he is very easy to pick up, but the people who choose to play ryu, have to suffer at a HUGE disadvantage. that disadvantage, is the fact that shotos are the most easily read characters in the game. pros have had enough time to study ryu since SF2. he did get some new attacks along the way (ultras focus ex)but these are minor. why do you think Daigo had such a hard time fighting Kuraudokins Juri. it was the first time anyone (including Daigo) had seen a pro Juri player, and that makes up the fact that juri has not been around for around 20 years for people to study. so if anyone is gonna pick up Ryu, know this. you'll win against people who are new to the game, but against the old school gamers, your pretty much done.
Evo was so amazing I had a blast! Getting Daigo to autograph both my SF4 and SSF4 was such a treat. I am going to try and get better and one day enter the tourney and play against these top players.
Hats off to Mike Ross for placing 4th. I was hoping he would make top 3 (gotta represent So Cal).
So after this evo is WEST COAST>>>EAST COAST now? i believe so
Not the top spot, but USA got 9 of the top 12 if I counted correctly. Good Job. Does anyone know how the 20k in prize $ was split up?

@WinstonChurchill
I wouldn't discredit the other Japanese players too quickly. Momochi, Mago, and Uryo haven't played many tournaments in America.
Where in my post (post 570) did I discredit other Japanese players? Someone didn't read it properly did they? :)
@610
u really think daigo didn't have the game before also? dude was playing hakan and guy at an invitation.
@627
yea except he messed up people w/ hakan, guy, and guile. but, wait guile's top tier... mmm... cause daigo used him!!!! people these days just need to stfu and get better.
So did they ever give out that golden TE stick for an online viewer? I watched for those 3 days and didn't see crap.
@EXMessiah No, not really, srsly.
You see I live in the real world, where Daigo is better(at SSF4) than me and all of you too. On the other hand, I would be happy to play you and your attitude best of 10, if you have the PC version.
That's right, he wont be winning like this, nor will he be alive forever. The point is, he is the best, period. End of discussion. Again.
How does marn use an xbox 360 TE on TVC?? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4Bp-r... (goto :50 )
i love TVC but i cannot play it on the gamecube controller, is there an adapter hes using? or is the only possible way to mod the stick with toodles boards?
I will give Diago props when hes is raping with lets say Ken, or maybe even guile, Diago plays a decent guile. prove to us that your the best Street Fighter player not the best Ryu in the world. Ryu just has so many ways to deal huge damage. like
solar into ex. fierce shoryuken. Brutal!!!! and thats a weaker simpler combo...
@ ipanda: he is the undoubtly the best player in SF history, this is almost unarguable. His tournament accomplishments, more specifically his SF achievements, is just unrivaled. Name me one other player who has consistently won as many times as Daigo.
The only competition he gets are from players in Japan. But even so, players in japan can vouch for me that beating him in a endurance match is quite a feat. If I remember correctly, nobody has beaten Daigo in a long set, more specifically a first to 10.
Daigo deserves this fame, he earned it, not once, not twice, but countless times. Haters are going to hate.
@651
he just did. he fking won EVO back to back and winning other tourneys and that doesn't prove that he's one of the best? he been playing the best of the best already, winning consistently and been proving that he's one of the best SF player. same crap all the time when X player wins, it's not him, but the character. same thing happened when justin took a tourney a few months back. it was rufus. blah blah blah. take ryu to a well known tourney and see how well you do. come back when you get two and out.
Ryu is not that good, I really dont know what you guys see in him.
His damage is average he dosent do crazy damage like alot of the other characters. If you want to see damage face an Abel or a Rufus, with Abel if he lands on step kick combo thats around a courter of your life and he has the advantage on wake-up. Same thing with Rufus on combo dose crazy damage and can lead to ultra AND then he has the advantage on wake-up. There are characters that to way more damage then Ryu, even Ken dose more damage if he is landing fierce srk's.
Many of you are complaining about his DP's being so god like there not. They lost priority and they do less damage, plus they hit twice and you can only FADC the first hit further weakening the damage. Plus the move is a huge risk to take anyways, I hope that many of you know that if you block it you get a free combo and the only way to make it safe is to waste 2 meters to FADC.
"But Mr. Tru1yOdd his fireballs are amazing and he is very good at zoning." No they arent and no he is not. This game is less about fireballs now since most of the cast can get around them with normals or Ultras. Because of this he cant zone as well as he used to.
He is an average character and is used at a bench mark for the rest of the cast, that is it. His options arent the best in the game and they arent the worst, their just AVERAGE. his damage isnt good or bad its AVERAGE. His fireball arent good or bad its AVERAGE. His footsies are good ill give you that but see what I'm getting at here. Ryu isnt amazing he is... Wait for it... AVERAGE.
Look at Daigo videos he has to pull some psychic sh!t to win games. Oh and if Ryu is so good how come theirs a handful of really good ones, how come theres only like 3 Grandmaster status Ryus in Japan. If he was top tier you would a huge amount of Ryus in Japan cus those people are the biggest tier whores in the world.
@657
"...plus they hit twice and you can only FADC the first hit further weakening the damage..."
Why are you FADC his strong/fierce DPs? Your supposed to use the jab DP.
"No they arent and no he is not. This game is less about fireballs now since most of the cast can get around them with normals or Ultras. Because of this he cant zone as well as he used to."
That isn't saying much considering he was one of the best zoners in vanilla.
To the rest of your argument: He is not average OR top tier. He is above average (in between). Fact.
@664: There's no need to ever counterpick with Ryu. In fact, many players will counterpick -to- Ryu simply because he has the greatest set of tools for handling virtually all match-ups. He can do the damage and he can keep people out until he wants to draw them in. His FADC into ultra is incredibly easy to do (is there anyone who can't do it now?) and does fantastic damage for such a safe attack. Not all characters have such an automatic move, which is why Ryu is by far the best character on a match up to match up basis.
Daigo will likely win EVO every year until SF4 goes out of style and he moves onto something else. Nonetheless, I would like to see him bring his talents to another character because--quite frankly--I'm not horribly impressed with his Ryu anymore. He can still do some great cancels into ultras, but all the same, we've seen them all before now--by him. If he were to stick with Guile in tournament play or would even take up another character that -didn't- have projectiles, he would have to actually challenge himself for once. That to me, as someone who appreciates seeing new styles of play and not the same old, same old, would really reinvigorate my interest in his play.
More or less: We would learn all sorts of methodologies about some relatively unknown characters if Daigo would intensively train with them and sort out their nuances. With Ryu, the whole thing is just bone dry at this point.
@608 Dpendleton nope just a member of the the klan and that rug head needs to step his game up.
Anyone else thought the Female tournament was a snore fest? They're horrendous to watch. They dont know how to land links, combos, or even how to play. They seem below average from online players.
@ 667
What tournament were you watching, I seen all kinds of links, and combos landed, these girls are not Daigo calibur but they are definantly anything but below average.
Also many of the players that placed high in the tournament were online players as well, this would include the infamous GamerBee who eliminated Justin Wong from the tournament, with Adon of all characters.
And lastly you have to understand that you don't find many female gamers that are actually competent in Street Fighter, which is why it was called "SSF4 Womens INVITATIONAL." And a few even participated in the main tournament. It's not like they picked a bunch of girls off the street to play, there skill was recognized and they demonstrated quite well above my expectations.
@Mourne
I don't think his intention at EVO was to entertain anybody. I think his intention was to win with whatever character he enjoys playing.
If anyone thinks Ryu is overpowered, you'd start to wonder why there aren't more Ryus in the top 16 out of 2000 players. I didn't bother reading other comments by trolls, especially when it's their 50th comment in one entry.
Haters gonna hate. Whenever a player wins a big tournament, there will always be people to complain about the character he used. They completely ignored the fact that Daigo doesn't even play a pattern Ryu, he took a bunch of risks to throw off his opponent. They ignored the fact that Abel and Rufus were way more prominent in the top 32. They ignored the fact that Daigo is a top player in many games, even if he does tend to go for top tiers.
Now let's say Ryu WAS overpowered. What are you going to do about it? It doesn't change the fact that Daigo is really, really good at reading his opponents. Ryu isn't going to magically get nerfed because you BAW over basic pattern strategy. You can continue to BAW over it and basically pass off all your losses to scrubby Ryus as "unfair" and "cheap" like all the online scrubs out there, while the rest of the world has fun with the game and looks for ways to shut down Ryu's strategies.
@Clovr4Lyf Dude just stfu. Here's the real reason you hate Ryu. You're a loser who can't beat fireball characters. You have no life and is just looking for attention. All you do is stay on eventhubs write 100 comments. You're a loser in SSF4 and in real life and have no friends or anything better to do. I remember playing you and beating you with practically the whole cast and all you say is I have no skill, that I counter pick and I turtle all day. You are the most predictable LOSER ever all you do is jump in 720 even if it doesn't work first 100 times you tried it. Seriously stop playing the game because you're garbage and no nothing about the game.
@Clovr4Lyf. Ok say for aurguments sake I agree....learn the match. That's all you gotta do. I can beat ryu players more than 75% of the time cuz I'm fairly familiar with the basic to intermediate tactics. That's a weakness for ryu...since he's so popular the vast majority of people know his game to a certain extent. Hit practice mode & learn. Do his trails to get an idea of what he can do. Anything beats complaining about him being "OP" (which he's not btw).
The problem is not SSFIV balance for CRAPCOM, the big problem is the players...
Daigo is very good player, but not invencible, in Japan of course.
The worldwide player are very good too, but only in your house.
The balance n SSFIV is ridiculous. This Ono´s fault, because dont read the posts and letters sended to CRAPCOM.
October release another patch...The game still same, no changes, only news stages, news clothes, news monkey in background...patetics IDLC (Imbecile Download Content).
Change the producer ONO and have us a new SF game. But real Street Fighter Game, no the SF3 and EX remixed with number 4 in title name.
That true is here:
*Daigo wins Evo 2009 with Ryu* USA plps crying...
"OMG Ryu is SO CHEAP AND OVERPOWERED with his TRADE ULTRA AND DP DMG"
*Capcome nerfs Ryu trade ultra and DP dmg*
*Daigo wins Evo 2010 with Ryu* USA plps crying, again...
"OMG Ryu is still so CHEAP AND OVERPOWERED"
*Capcome nerfs Ryu trade ultra and DP dmg again* Yeah, finally.
*Daigo wins Evo 2011, 12, 13, 14...50 with Ryu* USA plps crying, once again...
"OMG Ryu is still so CHEAP AND OVERPOWERED FOREVER"
"There's no need to ever counterpick with Rufus. In fact, many players will counterpick -to- Rufus simply because he has the greatest set of tools for handling virtually all match-ups. He can do the damage and he rush in until he wants to keep them out. That to me, as someone who appreciates seeing new styles of play and not the same old, same old, would really reinvigorate my interest in his play.
More or less: We would learn all sorts of methodologies about some relatively unknown characters if Justin Wong would intensively train with them and sort out their nuances. With Rufus, the whole thing is just bone dry at this point."
I totally agree Mourne...
@Cauptain
Im agree with you capcom dont balance very well this game, besides its very balanced,
its true that ryu is not the same beast than before but I hate those who say that hes not as good as the people say, thats the reason there is so much ryus online, and the tournaments, look close and you will see the classic ryu, rufus, honda, chun li, akuma etc, this evo surprise me with that adon and zangief, but look, theres no sagat like before, thats because he was balanced and no one cares about chose him (theres hes exceptions).
people ever choice the top tiers and say that hes was always hes main hahaha poor idiots!!!
I hope with that arcade release and the DLC rebalance this game.

Lol, congrats Clovr4Lyf. I think you just won the whole internet.
on the sagat subject most people used saget because he was a good charater not because they liked him so in super u only run into saget fans and not because they can win easier with him
Even if Ryu WAS overpowered, guess what? Nothing comes out of this argument. You get to bathe in this scrubby, self-righteous glory, knowing you won an internet argument that led nowhere. 99.99% of the players are going to keep playing the game regardless, having fun, finding ways to get around Ryu, and you can stay in your own dark corner bragging to yourself about how you were right the whole time. Want a cookie, big winner?
@683
So basically you just don't like people using the main characters from a series? Your point proved nothing. 2 of the 4 series aren't competitive tournament games. 3 of the 4 games aren't even at evo. In the one game you listed that is actually a tournament game at evo, no one played those characters in the top 8. Good job.
Srsly? You guys are still going at it? *eats my ice cream*
people are forgetting about how hard it is to play at such a high level consistently, especially at a tournament like evo... i remember my first evo i entered i did really well in 3rd strike.. i ended up losing to jwongs chun.. my skill level was high, but the factor i never included was all the pressure you face when you play in big tournaments.. i had chances to win, but just being nervous as hell made me mess up combos, links, etc...
it gets to the point where all of these top players can literally beat everyone on any given day.. it really comes down to the player, not the character selection..
lamerboi vs daigo is a perfect example..
it had nothing to do with ryu being over powered.. people just crack under pressure..
^^ It is true. You get really nervous during tournaments because your excited and eventually you start getting jumpy and all of a sudden you don't play how you usually play because your thinking too much. This happen to me the first time I entered evo (which was this year.) I lost to mr.snk's honda, I had 1 round but I got nervous and decided to switch to my dj. we each had a round but I f'd up in the last round.
Upon reflect I would've had a better chance if I stuck to dictator and remained calm.
just a question to everyone who is saying Ryu is overpowered,
if Ryu is over powered, why are you not using him and winning tournaments. I mean, you are going to war, you have the choice to pick between a gun and a knife, it is obvious you would take the gun, so I ask you this, why are you not using Ryu(gun) and going to tournaments(war) and winning, why are you still not using Ryu(knife)?
I hate feeding trolls, anyways yes I hate Ryu but watching Evo helped me out on stopping some of his offense thanks to Vangief in terms when he faced Ken since they have the same moves (almost in terms of priorety) so learn the match up instead of being on this site 24/7 crying seriously we ask for your main on more than one occasion and you choose not to disclose it why who knows now you mention Sagat everyone knew Sagat was OP and he was toned down.
But comparing Ryu to MVC2 that is just stupid since both games mechanics are completely different plus that game had god/broken tier which defeated the purpose of learning all the characters so everyone sticked with the same 5 or 6 of them. You would believe that by watching the finals you would see the diversity in the characters that made it in, sure I was saddened that Vangief lost to Ricky by counter-pick (punk move BTW) but how many Ryu's did you see just one and it was all the player's skills that took him to the finals.
Now dissing Japan is messed up just what level do you have to stoop to because so far it's lower than the way that stream was handled this weekend but i bet you will just spew rhetoric and bring no facts to the table hell I bet that if Rufus won next day you would be like Rufus is OP.
@Clovr4Lyf Dude just stfu. You're such a LOSER. Stop making things up like the LOSER TROLL you are. Seriously just shut the fcuk up. Do you not have a life or something? That's like you're 100th comment. Seriously get a life.
Learn to ignore the trolls, guys. Spot their name and just move on without reading their comments.
FYI Daigo does NOT use overpowered characters. If anything, it's Justin Wong who uses overpowered characters. Just go back to EVO 2k4 and check the character tiers for 3rd Strike. Well what do you know, Chun Li is at the top with a 10+ point lead over any other character. The discrepancy is almost as large as Sagat's in vanilla Street Fighter 4's tier list.
Not to mention that Justin's input into the preliminary tier list from the American community also placed Rufus at the top.
I'm really surprised here...
In SSFIV, Ryu was really nerfed and is no longer in the top 3 tier :
- DP lost priority
- No more trade to Ultra.
- No more hado trap to Super
This is no little nerf, all of those were well present in his game.
Besides this, Daigo, who was physically crippled due to catching a cold, managed to stay undefeated the whole event ?
I'm much more impressed by this year performance.
Lol EVERYTIME that I look at the comments on this site, on EVERY news, I see that Clovr4Lyf guy arguing about how powerful ryu is.
The more interesting is that there are always people to debate with him :D Let it go, this guy is probably a nolife which purpose in life is to troll eventhubs..
He doesn't even wonder why no other ryu made it to the top in this Evo, or why everybody is using Rufus which is far more "cracked" than ryu..
Completely agree Ethredis. I just hope that whatever Capcom announces in two weeks will not make SSF4 obsolete. It's probably Capcom's most balanced fighting game ever made and I hope it will stay in the spotlight for a few more years. Otherwise we won't get a chance to see newer characters in future EVOs.
@Clovr4lyf
I didn't read anything past your first question: Y am I a troll? But I'll try to answer that question respectfully. The problem is that you are repeating the same points over and over, not just in this article but in every single comment that you've submitted on other articles as well. We've heard you, but you insist on your views without offering new counter-arguments or new perspectives. It becomes a broken record. If you can't turn off the broken record, the next best thing is to completely ignore it.
It's absolutely fine that we disagree. Accepting disagreements and differences respectfully and peacefully is part of life. But when you're repeating the same points over and over like a broken record (no new points/perspective), you are merely trying to shove your points down other people and that is NOT accepting disagreements. We've heard your points. Either add to the discussion or move on, no point in repeating them. You are less likely to persuade anyone by annoying them.
It doesn't help that you make a new paragraph for each sentence, use exclamation points excessively, and have at least one fully capitalized word per sentence. That's part of the 'annoying' factor. ;-)
@WinstonChurchill
I never answered your question back on comment # five hundred something lol. Perhaps 'discredit' was too strong of a word. But your previous comment stated that without Daigo, players from Japan wouldn't be in the top 8 so they're on the same level as the rest of the world. I do not agree with that assessment simply because those players I mentioned (Momochi, Mago, Uryo) were not present to compete at EVO or any other large international tournament. They are not in the top 8 because they are not present, not because they are unable to accomplish it.
Ryu's DP damage was reduced. It used to take away 160 hp in Vanilla. But that wasn't the main nerf. The main thing they took away from Ryu was his DP priority. It only has 2 frames of invincibility now. So when you jump in on Ryu he will either straight up lose or it will trade in your favor since you will only take 50 hp while Ryu loses 100 hp. They've made it so that Ryu actually gets punished for trying to anti-air. That along with his other nerfs have pushed to B tier. While other characters like Abel and Bison have taken the top spots since they got buffs on their normals and got really good Ultra 2s.
@ Clovr4Lyf
hey thats right they put hes DP to hit twice to do less damage, but they could reduce hes damage and conserve the one hit DP, the only difference that I saw is that they can destroy my focus u.u
I agree with you, hes still very very good(not like before), the only nerf that I see that really matter is hes priority in DP but thats the only, I see like a buff the two hits DP.
most of the people that defend ryu is because they use ryu, and believe or not hes still OP
*hes priority in most of the moves are very high
*he must have a walk speed like ken, but ryu is more fast (anyone have a reason to justify that?)
*hes hard DP do more damage than ken?
*hes is combo man, all hes moves can be combo xD and has the most easy ultra to combo, ( only jump with medium punch and thats all)
*and for those stupid that say he has low damage output, have you seen the damage ryu do in a single combo?
And last, for the guy that say the war and guns and knifes, and those who defend ryu I think ryu is for those begginers that dont know how do play and need this OP character to win thats all C= so , if you need ryu to feel like youre good in this game chose hem ;) I dont need ryu to win hahahahaha
It does 100 damage if Ryu is on the ground in the air it only does 50. Since its two hits if you FADC Ultra out of it you only get 100 damage where in Vanilla you got the full 160 also his Ultra was nerfed and it was already one of the lowest damaging ultras in the first game. A two hit dp is a nerf. So what it breaks focus no one was using focus to bait dps in the first place thats retarded.
I don't know what else to tell you but I'm going to continue spamming fireballs unless you manage to figure a way around them then I'm just gonna mash dp because you're a stupid scrub that cant deal with simple zoning.
I enjoy how Clovr ignored my comment since he still refuses to say his main and to Arrancar funny go suckle on Clov's teet to make yourself feel better
I wonder why Justin Wong didn't counter pick Vance or Gamerbee when they played. Wong uses Rog, Fei, Abel at competitive levels. Given I don't really know who Adon is weak against.
Balrof, Fei Long, Abel, and Rufus all have disadvantageous matchups against Zangief, so Wong probably just picked the character he felt most comfortable with. Wong had no idea what Adon's matchups were like, but most people agree that Rufus has at least a slight advantage over Adon.
Hi my name is clovr4lyf, i suck at life. Basically all I do is troll because i'm a moron. I hate on Daigo because he's too good and can't win a tournament choosing random.
More specifically, I despise Ryu because I get annihilated by pattern Ryu users online. The truth is, I just suck at Street Fighter overall.
Please continue listening to me, don't ignore me because I'm an absolute idiot but I believe I'm right. I'm not trolling, I really am this dumb. I will continue playing SF to no avail just to get smashed by 90% of the community. Adios.
@726
yeah, jwong's pride probably prevented him from counter picking with seth or chun, atleast ricky didn't care about what people thought when he counter picked with chun.
@728
except last year he picked abel and rog cause he felt his rufus wasn't up to scratch. sure it wasn't a counter pick, but he went w/ what he thought was the better odds. counter pick doesn't work if you don't even know how to fight against a certain character so you have to go w/ your best.
@665
"More or less: We would learn all sorts of methodologies about some relatively unknown characters if Daigo would intensively train with them and sort out their nuances. With Ryu, the whole thing is just bone dry at this point."
Why is that Daigo's job to do? Why not take that challenge upon yourself instead of expecting him to do it?
That being said, I do think Daigo will start to main a new character now that he has taken EVO back to back with Ryu. With SSFIV being relatively new, I think he wanted to stick with a safe bet in order to take the prize money and please his new sponsor Mad Catz. Overall though, my bet is that he really wants a challenge, and at this point no one can provide a serious tournament threat to his Ryu. With a full year of practice before the next EVO and the arcade release in August(?), he'll main someone else. (HOPEFULLY!)
@733
You do realize Ryu has rarely been top tier in the games he appeared in (only hyper fighting and SFIV series, if I recall correctly) - in fact in the original SF2:WW Ryu was bottom tier, the absolute worst character. Aside from that he is usually mid tier.
You also didn't pay attention to the fact that Daigo used Balrog in the finals for SSF2HDR.
There are some misconceptions about Ryu's DP changes in Super as well.
Both heavy and light dragon punch have only 2 frames on invulnerability, meaning they'll trade as an anti air (and against any hit that hits high, they still have lower body invulnerability). Medium dragon punch has 4 frames and should be used as anti air and basically works like it did back in vanilla.
Damage wise, the deep hit of light and heavy dragon punch do 100 damage, while the deep hit of medium dragon punch only deals 75. The shallow hit (2nd hit for medium/heavy) deals 50 damage for all versions.
Since only medium dragon punch is reliable for actually countering anything (anti air, interrupting block strings, etc), off a FADC you only deal 75 damage with a dragon punch. Using light or heavy will net you a trade (depending on the hit box some things might beat it cleanly as well) unless they do a low attack.
y'all arguing about boring ryu is seriously retarded...like seriously!...retarded...
@739
You just proved that you are simply trolling these boards with that statement. You might have had legitimate gripes, but you didn't stick to one. Either you
1) Dislike Daigo fanboys, which is fine, but you don't really say that
2) Dislike Ryu players because they think they're good even though they are playing in your eyes an overpowered character. However, you just said you have no problems perfecting them online - kind of a strange thing to get upset about then
3) Dislike Daigo himself because he plays Ryu to great effectiveness. Again though, you say "my complaints are NOT against DAIGO," so you yourself denied this
4) Dislike Ryu, which might be the saddest one of all. It's a video game character... pixels on a screen and 0s and 1s in code. It doesn't stop you from doing anything in your life. It doesn't have to affect you at all. It's not worth coming on these boards day after day and saying the same things over and over
5) Dislike Capcom for having Ryu as their most popular character and seemingly giving him benefits. There is a simple solution here too... stop playing their games.
From your user name, by guess is it's the last, and you have a personal vendetta against Capcom for dissolving Clover Studio back in 07. In that case, I really doubt anyone here really cares. Please stop wasting your time and posting endless rants about a character you feel represents a company you seem to hate.
@jjohan35 @jjohan35 @jjohan35
Seriously dude. Read the post properly (POST 570) and stop lecturing me. I copied some guy called FarkAydeGhil420's post.
..........................................
@701 Elle
i was saying the same thing to my friends bcuz i was at his pool (Flashmetroid, pool G) but everyone belive that was JR Rodriguez.
lol at Ryu OP look the top 32 there are 3 and a half ryus and just 1 in top 8 thats not OVER POWER.
this ppl at their homes saying that evo was boring... pathetic
ok people , I think ryu is top tier, or not? , but I only want to they balance a little more like they do with sagat, no more people with sagat on internet only very goods and no cheaps, and can anybody here tell me why are so many ryus on internet? because is very easy play with hem thats the reason I called the begginers choice.
but I hate thoooose blankas!!! XD
and who is your main guys?????
lol i was just playing a 12k pp ryu and I baited the hell out of those "psychic" shoryus. Without the super trap, it's not as hard to approach ryu. I used rose so his "spam fireball" game wasn't an issue...lol ryu is so easy to fight
Clovr4Lyf
Thanks for being honest at last. The thing is, every game company has a signature character. Nintendo will always be represented by Mario. Sega was Sonic. Etc, etc. Ryu was the original character in the series, so he's always going to be a staple.
Frankly though, as good he'll always be, he's honestly the one character that is the most generic. Let beginners start with him all they want, if they are really into the game most likely they'll pick up a new character once they figure out their playing style and want to use someone with more flare.
As sabrewulf stated, at EVO there were almost no Ryus in the top 32 and only Daigo in the top 8. A minority of top level players main Ryu, unlike the true cheap player in vanilla, Sagat.
Again though, it's just a game - Capcom will continue to be Capcom, no matter what is ever posted here or anywhere. Instead of bashing Capcom, go on forums and praise Platinum Games, that's far more productive time spent to promote the games you really enjoy.
This is starting to veer way off the thread topic of EVO... support the developers that you feel make the best games! Don't waste time bashing those that don't. Great creators will always find work at gaming companies.
I'll just say that with the arcade release of SSFIV I think you'll see a ton of new characters being used to great effectiveness, and hopefully it will inspire others like GamerBee has done with Adon. I also think Daigo will main a new character for EVO 2011, just my opinion.
I guess we'll agree to disagree. I think Daigo was motivated by cash and responsibility this year, but is looking for a challenge now that he won EVO. Honestly, he's admitted that he's dedicated his life to this now, I'd think winning seemingly without much effort is not that exciting for him. Not saying he'll take a D tier character, but it won't be Ryu.
@Clovr4Lyf
Evo is just one tournament. Find me other tournaments (without Daigo) where the winner plays Ryu.
You are taking advantage of the spectacle that is Evo, and trying to push your crazy agenda since there are so many eye-balls on this topic. You're still the person at the park who talks to the pigeons, except you are showing up at the Super Bowl and talking to pigeons.
Jesus Christ Clovr4Lyf. What do you do all day? Sit in front of your computer and reply to EVERY post that was directed to you? I saw about the last 50-70 posts on my lunch break and all requires you to write an essay to respond. Get a job already, holy crap. Better yet, get through your pea brain head of yours that Ryu is not the "vanilla Sagat" of SSF4.
jeez, you actually think Ryu is still OP in ssf4? I do agree he's probably the most balanced character out there though.
- As explained previously in here, the only viable anti-air Ryu players use is the MP version, which does only 80 dmg on the first hit. If both hits connect it does 130 dmg. In vanilla, users would use the fierce DP which did a total of 160 dmg and only hit once. And let's be serious, who actually uses FA as a solution for someone who does a wakeup shoryuken, noobs.
- Ryu's ultra has been nerfed severely and barely does ANY damage.
- Can no longer trade into ultra in most cases.
- Can't throw out your super when a fireball is on the screen. (this move was overpowered)
- Alot of his normals take less damage now. (i.e. Crouching HP)
1. his crouching fierce took 100 before, now it takes 90. Nice try.
2. not psychic, just react or predict it. You cannot duck after blocking any "SHOTO'S" hurricane kick. I don't know what to tell you, it's your fault you can't react fast enough or predict/bait it.
3. All his combos do not do massive damage as compared to vanilla.
4. Cr. Medium Kick, every shoto has one. It's a good poke. Chunli is much superior in the footsie department. Refer to Y24, NEMO, OR SHIZZA.
5. That applies for anyone who throws projectiles. Rose, Ken, Ryu, Gouken, etc. all build meter when throwing projectiles.
Are you an idiot? Yes.
what matter if they reduce the damage output on ryu, the prioity and recovery its the important think.
@Akro
for you ryu isnt a top tier??
not the same like in vanilla but still a top tier, no one respond why are so many ryus on internet.... interesting....
I dont say hes broken but is a top tier for sure, cant compare ken with ryu....
this game only needs to buff some characters and thats all, not to buff another character who already are top tier like blanka and hes walk speed buff, and rollings saves ;)
for the ppl saying that ryu is an average character...
im my opnion this is bullshyt, his damage is not average he can do heavy damage real fast like someone stated above,
also does ryu have a bad matchup?
top tier characters have at least 1 bad match up, like rufus against sagat or balrog/abel vs zangief, sagat against akuma and etc.
and ryu is a very safe character, the only unsafe move that i know he has is his sweep, everything else is just fine.
keep spammin fireballs online and defending ryu u filthy scrubs
This has been going on for Tiiiiiime... Let me throw a few things out here.
Ryu is a well rounded character meaning he has no real weakness and an answer to most things if not all. Not every character in the game has an answer to most things. Acknowledge how many set-up's into ultra or super he has and his damage output. He's like a profectile Rufus in a sense due to them both having a good amount.
Who has won a Tournament with Ryu except Daigo?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=91X3PN...
Alex Valle has. There are also recognizable players who mained Sagat in sf4 and switched to Ryu in ssf4 which brings me onto my next point. In sf4 who ever won a tournament with Sagat in the US? I remember I love u Joe did once and people who didn't even main him won some small tournys which a few recognizable players went to but who ever won a major tournament with sagat? Although I'm sure we agree that Sagat was definitely OP in Vanilla. Acknowledge that sf4 was unbalanced and hardly anyone won with him, while Mago was destroying people in Japan. So for people to say 'oh i'ts Daigo tho' when he did used to get beat by people in Japan, heck, y24 beat him the other day which says something in itself. Not all tournaments in Japan are one round elimination and Daigo never touched the loser brackets at EVO. So lets look at this seriously, Sagat was classed as the best character yet hardly anyone won with him but in Japan there was a Sagat winning and dominating the ranks (Mago is ranked 1st but Daigo 2nd). ssf4 is more balanced so the fact that 1st place was ACHIEVED by a Ryu speaks loud and clear. In the long run I can't say that Ryu is OP but he does do good dmg and I'd say he is one of the better characters. Fact is the game is less than 3 months old and there are more character match-ups to learn so let's give people time to adjust.
I just played a game with Ryu and I got punished with ultra on a blocked sweep.
BTW Arturo talked to Gamerbee and Gamerbee said that he gets owned by Daigo online. He said Vangief had the best chance to take out Daigo.
Daigo/Ryu is not know for losing to ANY types, cuz he is the bomb diggity no doubt.
ryu isn't overpowered.. daigo just makes him look like he is with the way he can pull off some of his most difficult combos with ease.. by all means forward hp, crouching hp, dp, fadc ultra isn't an isn't combo to pull off in a tournament setting.. maybe in training mode it is..
i remember watching the stream and the commentators were saying, daigo is the only person they saw who would do that combo when they were in mid screen.. i never saw alex valle even attempt that combo during all of evo.. just having the opportunity to land that combo takes some skill at high level play because the start up on forward hp is slow.. thats when the mind games come in and you have to force your opponent to make mistakes..
i respect players who can use multiple characters in tournaments like floe and marn, even though some view counterpicking as an easy way out.. but i think it takes more skill to win with one player regardless of the matchup..
Yea none of the other top Ryus Valle and Choi hardly ever go for that combo because of the 1 frame link, but Daigo hits it like 90%.
Ohhhhhhh Sh!t, here we go.
