AndriaSang.com translated an interview that Yoshinori Ono had with Famitsu magazine in Japan.Moving onto the home version of the game, Famitsu asked the obvious question: will all those arcade adjustments make it into the home via an update? Replied Ono, "For me, the IV series ends with Super SFIV. We want both Super SFIVs to be played for a long time, so we'll listen to feedback after the arcade version is released to determine if players want the home version updated."
Famitsu also asked if any such updates for the home version would be free. Replied Ono, "If it's a tuning update similar to the June 15 update, I believe we'd be able to offer it for free. However, if it's the kind of update that adds new moves, it's possible that it could be paid."
Separately from the arcade version, Ono said that owners of the home version are asking for additional download content, including new costumes, new characters, and new functionality for the Replay Channel. He said that the staff would like to implement everything they possibly can, but the priority now is on the arcade version's development. Delaying the arcade version's release any further is something Ono said he definitely does not want to do.
Thanks to EX Ein and Franny87 for pointing this out.
I hope that the new moves thing is referring to something like taunts. It would suck that you have to pay to give your character an advantage. Having said that, I'd be fine with paying for something like new characters.
Whoa, paying for moves? That's bull$hit. Paying out the @ss for costumes is one thing, since I, the consumer, have the choice to buy an aesthetic pleasure, but the addition of moves almost guarantees that you'll have no choice but to pay if you want to stay online. Characters is kind of a murky issue since it probably takes a load of money to develop them. Doing this might challenge SSF4's status as a competitive game, just as it did with Soul calibur 4 and all it's Dlc characters and exclusives.
I'm completely fine having people pay for new characters, costumes, stages, etc. Paying for moves is completely different, though. If you come along a mirror match, you'd most likely be at a disadvantage just because you didn't buy that move. It's kind of like new characters, but new moves would probably act as balancing for existing characters. You still have a cast of 35 to fight against the 1-4 (at most) new characters that could be introduced by DLC. Where you would be at a very definite disadvantage with your character if you did not buy the moves DLC.
I'm usually pro-whatever DLC developers want to throw at us, but this just screams of being a bad move.
@5
I understand where you are coming from about the addition of moves for money, but I think the addition of characters would be all right. If they used characters from previous games, I think the game would stay competitive, as long as they keep the gameplay balanced.
Also, new stages would be AWESOME.
I'm hoping the pay for new moves is just an error of translation or ono not really thinking about it. It was an interview so his answers are just things coming off the top of his head. If there was an actual discussion on it inside capcom, I'm sure they'd know that paying for moves is not a good idea.
@8
What he meant by not being a competitive game anymore is that it would be difficult to balance AND it would be hard to set up a tournament experience because of people having and not having the DLC.
IMHO, I would love SSF4 Turbo but it would be bad for everyone in the whole scheme for things.
Wait, paying for -moves-? That doesn't make any sense to me.
I can't help but feel something was lost in the translation.
I don't mind characters being paid DLC. That's not a huge deal. Rebalancing the game and giving the characters new moves, however, shouldn't be something you should have to pay for.
The whole paying for moves thing is just a misquote, no need to trip about that. I think what he meant to say was big changes to the game like new characters.
Personally I wouldnt mind paying for new characters as long as they are balanced. And if you play Street Fighter competitively your gonna pay for the DLC.
And yes it dose suck to pay for them but Capcom isnt going to make any big DLC free. Also I dont think the will add alot of characters many 3 fan favorites that people vote on or something like that, but there not gonna add 10 new characters like they did for Super.
New moves as for the veteran characters what else could they add? hM? Shorykuken that make hadoukens come out?
Not sure what to make of Ono's comments. Always the chance something was misspoken or lost in translation, even though AndriaSang.com does a really good job with their articles.
But, this is a good time to let Capcom know your thoughts on a future DLC upgrade. I know a number of their U.S. staff members read this site, and your feedback makes a difference.
Keep the comments coming if you have an opinion on this.
this is bull if they add new moves and ask us to pay for it. dlc should only do frame data changes and move property changes
fix gen, makoto and hakan.
turn down abel's u2 and rufus.
add functions to replay channel [search for player names, characters, rankings etc etc]
fix some more bugs [wall dive from vega + gen, seth u2 hit box etc]
make it free - not that much tweaks, in particular they will be allrdy made for arcade release. really 25 € [32$] for customes that are on the disc and were redy BEFORE game release is enough :X
I can see alot of requests flooding in lol. So why the hell not
No short cuts,no auto block, no crouch tech. No invin frames on back dashing(only throw immunity).
I have now made the game alot more aggressive and engaging. Your welcome. ANd i dont wanna her learn2rushdown. Even freakin diago said the game is too defensive.
Oh gosh I hope they don't do Charlie. Last thing we need is a better guile whose moves are superior to Guile's in almost every way. I do hope he appears in the story at least somewhere though.
All I want is an option to disable shortcuts.
I don't want a few random directions + punch to result in a Shoryuken. :(
I haven't bought any SSFIV yet, and at this rate I'm not buying anything until I know just what is going on. I don't want to buy it for ps3 if I get shafted on balance and moves, potentially characters. If it is offered DLC I'll buy it, but I want it to be offered in some form.
Disable shortcuts, shorten reversal window and add Q.
BTW, shortcuts don't actually exist, per se, it's really input leniency, as explained here.
@irpanda
Ok, like what?
Having to stand and tech is natural for sf, i honestly still do it. It opens up the high low game(we need this). No auto guard means what? No more mashing, i shouldnt need to say anything else. And as for the back dash. It kills alot of the wake up game and certain characters backdashs just get them out of almost everything(chunli). There should be some guess work involved to wake up. Ill give u an example. Chun li versus blanka. On wake up she can get away from all of my normals and my throw attempt. I can counter with a ball but that isnt safe so if i screw that up i get ultra'd. So that means a knock down on her means nothing(mind u ex sbk is retarded good).
The game is too defensive. And the characters that lack good def options have very strong offensive options(ie abel). This is not just my opinion but the opinion of alot of sf players. Im all ears to what we would need to could to allow my changes to work though. As i see it now it wouldnt work anyone.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BRING BACK CHAMPIONSHIP MODE! that's all i want i'm not greedy
I do believe that the "paid moves" is a misquote. But as far as characters and such being paid DLC that is always a possibility Seth and Ono said that countless times prior to the release of Super. That was the reason why Super content wasn't DLC, Vanillas code did not allow for the constant upgrades, but they changed all that coding for Super and therefore this is why it will be the last version of IV. All I'm hoping for is bi-yearly or yearly character upgrades to keep the game fresh and popping for years to come.
How would the update affect tournament play. What if one person has the update and someone else doesn't. How would you play them online if the update isn't free. I just don't think its a good idea
@38
Removing Focus Attacks and Ultras is the best solution if you want a more balanced, offensive game. Being able to sit back and focus everything that gets thrown at you encourages people to sit in the corner on a life lead and Ultras stop all offense cold. The game changes the second somebody has access to their Ultra. Rip those terrible mechanics out of the game and people wouldn't be so afraid to advance because there would be less risk attached.
-Buff Hakan (at least)
-Add Rolento and Elena (at least)
-Give us character specific searches and leaderboards on the replay channel
@Pig_Red/43
Are you insane? With that mentality about Ultras, why not remove the Super/EX meter too? The game changes when you can FADC as well, or when Rufus can do EX messiah kick, Chun can Super, or any other character with any other EX or super move. Also, unless you are EXTREMELY good you cannot focus everything. Even then, you cannot focus armor breaking or mult hit attacks. No offense, but your entire argument sounds like you played (S)SFIV for about an hour.
If Capcom has to do it for free, they could always just not do it at all.
I agree with Pig_Red about ultras. In general they tend to destroy a lot of my rushdown because, once someone has them they can activate them and go through my moves. I don't think im bad at the game, but having a huge life lead then having it ripped from you in one move is a pretty retarded gameplay mechanic. I still don't know why they aren't using selectable supers. It wouldn't be as game changing and would allow players to take more risks without worrying about losing half their bloody lifebar in one move.
I think it's about time they kept the home and arcade versions of the SF4 games the same for once.
If they're going to be updating the arcade version with any kind of gameplay changes like new moves, rebalancing, new characters, etc. then they SHOULD update the console versions as well so they don't split the SF4 demographic.
@43
thats not the biggest problem though. I mean cmon now, have u seen some of the retarded inputs that give u a dp? Think about this, without auto guard mashing out ultras in the middle of combos and block strings would just get u killed, as it should. Or how about mashing low techs, again a simple thing like that opens up alot of ground. The way the ultra super guages work need to be looked at but thats a small piece of the pie(ie ultra will drain over time and u DONT get ex meter from geting hit). I just find it sad that the top players havent riped into capcom for doin this to the game but then again all of them are useing it to gain publicy since the game is currently popular. I would imagine if these things were fixed in sf5 all of them would trash 4 to the ground.
also
-more characters such as rolento, birdie, charlie etc. maybe 10 in all.
-more alt costumes,
-3D as well as fast forward, backward and pause for replay channel
-online training mode so u can train with ur friend without dying and worrying about time.
all these features would make ppl play this game for decades to come, it would also mean money for capcom. i mean why NOT implement this? it dont take nothing but computer work inside an office building and i admit time, yes. but the reward would greatly outweigh the sacrifice. Not only would it be money in their pocket, but also the reputation of having created the best fighting game that has yet to be surpassed. The new Mortal Kombat is just around the corner, why not make it harder for it to stand up to ssf4?
@59
3d replays? Like leting me rotate the camera around the fight?
@Mr.Wings
The reason you would have to change a lot more thing to balance out the game after that is because a lot o characters dont have a "get off of me move" I.E Srk etc. They need their dashes to get out off rush downs. For example Makoto.
Well the other changes u say arent really game breaking, but it would be very hard to tech online with characters against good footies.
And i agree with pig_red
That is one of the things that can cause the game to be very defensive .
But the most defensive player doesnt always win you can see this from ESWC, the uk player play very defensive and lost....
I want them to work on the throwing system. because the throw in this game out beats every attack moves you can do. definitely characters like T.hawk and zangeif, as soon i'm about to attack, the person grab me and stop me in the middle my attack animation, then they goes in. I hate it when people grab alot in this game.
online training mode will be awesome! being able to train online with your friends will be something really good. Adding more characters? i dont mind but i prefer if you guys fix and balance the game a little bit! and as far as paying for moves, just tell me that its a joke!!! One more thing, you guys said that you fixed bison pc????? pc is still crap as far as i know! nobody online and none of the pros use pc, except for ex pc. So fix that plz ;)
@ IrPanda
whats up panda. i was just answering post #60 in respose to my posts # 58 and 59. take a look. do u agree or not? why and why not? any suggestions from you? id like honest feedback, to all of u guys, dont diss on it cuz u just dont like it or u dont give a fuk. i know its easy to.
I wouldn't really like new moves because its the reason why I didnt start off so good with SSF4 but if they did make them I would buy them the second they came out.
As for gen He doesn't need any fixing he can already combo The best.
A new character shoould be Alex or hugo
Sagats old stage!!!
The make it so you can search for characters in replay channel
Well more characters and stages seems good, algo I have some petitions xD
nerf the pussy of blanka
nerf the pussy of ryu and guile, both are the same
( fireball, you jump, they do an antiair)
because of those pussy style characters this game has been converted in SUPER DEFENSIVE FIGHTER 4
and please buff vega scarleth terror, hakan moves, and do dan playable haha
*since sagat was nerfed, nobody choice him hahaha, well still some good players
Add sean ,Alex, Elena,rolento
take dan and seth out the game bring back street fighter 3 thrid strike music back new stages and were good to go major mix makot hayate punch and command grab
Some of the ideas up are good:
- online trainingroom
- championshipmode
- fix replaychannel search options and playback functions.
But, nice fixed too would be:
- sort connections by ping/color (i.e search online green bar)
- fix Tournament mode. Make options like match count, double eliminiation etc. Play mathces SIMULTANIOUS up till finals.
Other than that, we don't need new characters or moves, but maybe rebalance some of the 10 added in SuperSF4.
Best regards
Danish community
Can we at least get a copy of the definitive version on consoles?
needs DLC:
Karin
Elena
Sodom
Q
id be happy with any of those chars. end of story.
I hope they will separate these downloads if, in fact, they are adding new moves, characters, etc. I don't want to pay for moves I won't be using. I'm already hating for paying crap that's already on the game disk to begin with. All you are paying is an unlocking code to access it.
Ono.. All the hell you gotta do when it comes to Hakan is this...
5) Make his Crouching Fierce an ACTUAL overhead. It looks like an overhead already so make it so.
4) Oil Dive (360 with kick)& Flying Oil Spin (Super move) while charged, should be able to be canceled. If Abel players can do it with the Breathless Ultra, then why not add it to Hakan's Special / Super move?
3) A god damn Normal Anti-Air move! Every character on this roster has a move they can use for anti-air. Hakan does not. Hakan players have to use... gimmicks to nullify jumpers.
2) Jumping MK should be a cross over attack. It looks like one any way. Make it so!
also above any of these things...
1) FIX IT WHERE HAKAN CAN SPD A DIZZY DUDLEY!!! WTH is wrong with you guys over at capcom?!?!?! How did this go unnoticed??? Where were the Quality testers for this? unacceptable.
@61
Most characters DO have a solid reversal move. And the hand few that dont just have to live without it and enjoy the other tools they have(ie abel, no reversal but he can slam u for 200 dmg). It wouldnt make the game HARDER as u stated in another post, it just keeps the game honest. What happens when the new player learns the game and then is hit with the realization that it isnt nothing but a turtle fest, u think we will continue to play?(i actually had this happen to a friend with sf4, he traded it in). Makeing the game scrub friendly is the stupidest thing u can do. Im not asking to require a degree to play but for christ sake mashing reversal/ultras/etc shouldnt ever be a good idea, even advanced players do this and i think its sad.
why all the complaints about not wanting to pay for new moves etc?? geez I think its great we get more from such a great franchise if we want it!! Look at all the other games like mw2 that charge u for maps u already got for free in mw1 at a very high price?? And hakan does need to be fixed i agree about all those buffs #90, But for all those other idiots that moan and whine about not wanting to pay for new stuff get a grip man its not gonna bust your wallet if u own a console and play games alot u have the money to spend so shut up and stop acting like some high and mighty consumer whos p***** off at capcom for not giving u it for free with the game in the first place its called dlc for a reason.
i dont think we should pay for any dlc after the arcade is out. those quarters and the amount of people beggin for the arcade should be enough to make a couple new games, but when it comes to capcom its a high chance they may still charge for those dlc's. damn damn damn.
as far as more moves, i want chun li's rising bird kick (or whatever its called. dont remember) from alpha. dont have time for that mk combo you gotta do just to do it.
as far as characters goes, yall already know. i said it a million times. we need sakuras true rival and that would be non other than karin. bring it on capcom
and one more thing. i like some of these hakan ideas. here another one, since he's a oil wrestler, it would be funny if the oil gets on the opponent whenever he grabs them so if they dash while oil is still on them they slip. i dont play with him too much, but i would like a run for money when i fight against him.
@#87/KAZZNORE:
If you don't like it, um, maybe don't buy for it? All that does is tell Capcom that your complaints can be safely ignored.
What I would like to see added would be a system direction, a'la SF3:TS on Dreamcast. Adding options such as having both ultras usable in matches could open up some great mind games.
@ 74 Gorav
Gen at the moment is $h!t. So please don't talk about a character you don't main.
Fix Gen
More stages more costumes
more modes
go to the srk forums and ask for everyones input you can have people vote
bring more characters Rolento would be badass.
like a lot of other ppl already said:
championship mode
online training
search options for replay channel
and fix guy's auto correct ex spin kick cause it doesnt fcuking auto correct...
make his u2 like geif's zero frame ultra and his jump... cause he floats so much even when i jump way before i still get kicked first... his jump sucks...
@ # 92 supershoto2k10
Ok you don't understand what paid for moves entails. I paid $40 for SSF4. Not a lot, but still, that is the transaction I made with capcom in order to own and play their game. I also pay the equivalent of $5 a month to take that game online. If moves are added, that not only gives other players an unfair advantage, and that basically means that you probably will be shut out of the online depending on the character. So this is basically creating a subscription, which was not a part of my transaction with capcom. You really have no sense of buyer value, as apparently you'll buy anything you're charged for. If capcom came to your house to charge you to keep your copy of SSF4, you'd probably pay.
@ everyone complaining about the costumes
They are AESTHETIC pleasures. You do not need them, they do not affect gameplay. You have a choice in buying them or not. They are unnecessary luxuries, and paying for the code is up to you. Do not compare moves to costumes, as they bear a striking resemblance to apples and oranges.
@doppler
Thats what we should be complaining about. super turtle fighter 4. It doesnt take much to adjust the game so turtleing doesnt become the end all be all strat.
Somehow make it so you can't mash out ultras as easily while in a combo.
Add more recovery frames? make it easier to do links? I don't know what the best way is, but it needs to be fixed. What's the point in doing anything besides jab, when they're gonna start mashing ultra?
Let us search by username in the replay channel and rankings.
Also, I want to see Cody hooked on glow, give the newcomers another alt costume.
Completely, 100% disagree about paying for new moves. Changing the balance of the game through paid dlc means that not everyone will have experience with these new moves. This could also factor in with tournament organizers--ban the new moves or allow them? Remember Yoda and Darth Vader and how they were immediately banned from tournaments on release of SC4? Playstation users weren't experienced with Yoda users and Xbox users weren't experienced with Darth Vader users.
What if one of the new moves were to give Ryu his Joudan-Sokutou-Geri (his forward step kick) and this lead to some new combo opportunities and how would this work online? If you didn't buy it, would you be able to play against people who did? Also would this be be fair that he has an advantage because he paid some money to buy a new move while you didn't?
Just keep on making more costumes for money. At least it doesn't affect game balance and players won't feel cheated after getting beaten by a new move that they don't have.
Rolento and Charlie plz.
