New SSF4 details from Japanese blog, alt. costumes
Azrael has translated the Jan. 7, 2010 Nakky blog post. This is a pretty long entry, so here's a recap of what's new.
- Shiozawa stated they tried to make the two Ultras for the characters very different, so you'd find a unique experience with each one.
- The original 25 characters will all get a third alternative costume. Looks like new cast members will only have two costumes.
- If you pick the 10th color for the new alternate costume, it makes part it change.
- The original characters will have a 2nd rival battle now.
- You can enter a special command that lets you decide which rival you fight.
- You can hear your opponent's character background music during fights against people as well, but you have to tinker with the settings to do so.

Thanks to you, Lil' Ono and the development staff has gotten really pumped up for the new year, the year of the tiger! And on my first temple visit of the new year, my forecast calls for good luck! What could this mean?!
Well to kick off the new year, today we're introducing new features in SSFIV! Check out the "SUPER NEW FEATURES Trailer" on the official site!
First off, let's look at one of the new features, the alternate costumes. The new characters in SSFIV will of course have their original costume as well as an alt, but the original 25 from SFIV will also be getting a new third alt costume!
Today, I'd like to show you 5 of my favorites!
First off is Rufus's "Hopping Chinese Vampire" costume!
The second costume is Cammy. Check it out, she's cosplaying Lord Bison!
Our 3rd costume is Zangief.
And our clean-up batter is Balrog!
And last up is Cody. Here's the costume you were all waiting and hoping for!
So these are my 5 personal favorites of the new alternate costumes.
But that's not all.
Nakky Blog Breaking News 1!
Its only for three characters, but if you pick the 10th color for the alternate costume, it makes part of the costume change! This is something I'd like for you all to discover in-game, so we'll just leave it at that.
Definitely try out various things.
Moving on, another new feature is the Rival Battles. Of course, the new characters in SSFIV will also have their own rival battles, but for the SFIV cast, they will also get another rival battle (in other words, a second one). As you saw in the trailer, there's Ryu Vs Ken, Guile Vs Bison, etc!
So, while we couldn't do it for everyone, we gave it our best shot and planned to give as many existing characters as possible another rival battle. The first one we decided on was of course Ryu vs Ken!
If there is a rival battle that's important to the story, we've got them along with lines of dialogue! So even for characters you don't usually use, be sure to check out their rival battles!
So now, you must be thinking "For the characters who have 2 rival battles, which one do we end up seeing?"
Nakky Blog Breaking News 2!
At the "Now Fight Your Rival!" screen, if you enter in a special command you'll be able to choose which character you want to fight! Its not a hard command, so everyone try to figure it out!

And our third new feature is what you've all been waiting for, Ultra II! All characters now have 2 ultra combos! You will pick your ultra at the character select screen and then head into battle. Like this.
Also, on the official site under the character profiles, we'll be adding movies of all characters Ultra I and Ultra II in the next updates! Today we have for you Ryu, Viper, Cammy, and El Fuerte! What kind of flashy moves, what kind of cool lines, what kind of scene, what kind of battle tactics will you use to pull them off - I hope you all look forward to it.
But there's one ultra I just have to tell you about! That would be Viper's Burning Dance. First, take a look at the video on her character profile screen.
...That's right, this is an original combo concept from the SFIV main designer Ikeno, introduced during the SFIV arcade development blog!
And so that's the new special features for today. Although it didn't make it into the trailers, there's just one more thing, one big thing you all wanted, that we just happened to add.
Nakky Blog Breaking News 3!
Not just against the computer, but now you can also hear your opponent's character background music during fights against people as well! This will be great for getting hyped up when battling against others!
There are 2 conditions you'll need to set for this.
1. Under "Icon" in the status information, set it to Anything OK
2. Under "Title" in the status information, set it to Anything OK
And that's all! You'll be able to fight listening to your opponent's background music! I'm starting to sound like an infomercial here, but if you really want to have a dramatic mood battle, set this to on, set Fight Request to on, and then just wait for "Those stronger than me" to come to you for a fight!

The new costumes are awesome especially Cody's... it's like he's back in traditional Final Fight attire except for the cuffs.
I wonder when will Capcom reveal the last of the new characters. I want to see Dudley in SSF4 already.

I think they remade the character select screen to exclude them for now so people wouldn't spend the entire playtest asking questions about them and just play the game. I could see them being really distracting.

Which, also brings up one more question. From what we know, returning characters will have their old alternates, and new alternates, but will the new characters have 1 or 2 of them?

To those having a freakoutfest over the missing 3S char slots:
This build that is being demoed at CES is probably a special press build of the game for CES and Fight Club. They likely didnt want to have the extra slots because they didnt want every other question to be of the "who goes in the missing slots DERP" variety.
Besides, We've all seen the kunai. Unless Hakkan is some kind of Islamic ninja, Ibuki is in. 3S fans, take a deep breath.

If they are keeping the old rival fights does that mean that ssfIV doesn't take place a year after sfIV? I am also worried that the prologues and epilogues will be the same story, but different animation.

they said that the handcuffs are part of who he is, this probably means they cant come off due to the engine. this isnt like ryu's shirt, they had to make those things work a certain way, they arent just on him. remember the old screen shots where the cuffs went through cody on some moves? clearly the fix to this was making the cuffs part of his model and not just an outfit accessory, so they have to stay. its just like balrog's gloves, as they pointed out.

oh, and #48, seeing the kunai doesnt mean anything. this may very well be the final screen. it wouldnt be the first time screen shots of something were shown, and then that thing was removed from the game (or game data being extracted and finding unused characters, music, art work, etc).
if they changed it for CES, i wouldnt see them releasing a screen shot on the blog to show ultra selection with this screen. havent they avoided the character select screen until now? why show this one?
of course the 3S fan in me is still screaming "show me dudley already!", i hope i'm not right, but there are reasons to believe it may be final.

I like the new alternate costumes and ultra moves. I'm really liking the Ultra select.... thought it would be changeable but guess Capcom felt it was better this way. I just hope that Ibuki and Elena are in the game. It'd be nice to see these two in the game =^D. Hopefully they both make it maybe......

and you've got the reading comprehension abilities of a 9 year old and refuse to look at facts.
the first example that comes to mind of screen shots being released that are nothing like the final product are the US version of DDR extreme. the US version used the interface from DS Fusion, but the original screen shots showed the green 5th mix re-hash the arcade version used. it also showed songs that werent in the final version.
examples of things being found on the disc that arent in the final game... well, pretty much every DDR game. for a character example, see wcw/nwo revenge for N64. wrath was playable with a gameshark since he was never removed from the game. the smackdown vs raw series, all chris beniot's moves are in the games STILL despite all traces of him being removed from anything visible on the console, accessible only through hacking and gamesharks. mario's tennis for virtual boy has lines in the code for catherine/birdo, who isnt present in the final version. how about shin akuma in third strike, for a capcom example? they're all over the place, you just dont want to see it.
you can cling to this blind hope that because a kunai was shown in one screen shot it confirms 3 third strike characters, but that doesnt make it true. like i said, i want them to be there, but there are plenty of reasons to believe that the character select screen shown here is final (which would be a bummer).
the idea that someone is "wrong and thats all there is to it" only works when facts are presented. i presented facts to back up my theory about things changing after screen shots are released, now present facts to show why i'm wrong. otherwise you're just guessing, and negating your "thats all there is to it" line. also, would it f--king kill you to spell out the word "you"?

Well its true we haven't seen Ibuki yet she is the most likely right now due to the kunai. But Capcom said it themselves that there are 35 chars in the game so that is not the final char select screen.

true, i doubt it though, i reckon there just trying to throw us for a bit longer. Theres to much like Kuni, that pic of hakan what has been said about the number of new characters etc.
Theres reasonable enough evidence to suggest the fact that this isnt the final roster the accuracy of the rumor list is also up there.
That said why change the character select screen just for a minor event did it give to much of a clue as to there identity. Theres a long time till april (@the earliest) so i still expect a trickle of news to come through

Yes, there's no guarantee yet of Ibuki (could be, for example, another member of her clan, or a completely new character altogether). But AFAIK none of your examples are similar to the situation here. It's very different when a certain desired feature has zero publicity (like Shin Akuma), when it's officially shown but with "this is a game in development" disclaimers (like your DDR example), and when they constantly tease about it. At this point, they can't retreat the fact that some character will throw kunais, especially when you consider how they've been careful to never talk about uncertain features without stating their status.

Again, it's not relevant, now. She despises Dictator, and has no affiliation to him or Shadaloo anymore. I'm saying that giving who she is now, the costume is stupid as it's contradictory to her character at the time of the game and it doesn't fit.
It's just a nostalgia thing and a lack of ideas, I reckon.

I personally really like rufus new costume - I dont play him but the old-skool-hong-kong-kung-fu-flicks fan in me loves the hopping vampires reference and respects any follow nerd wearing such a costume

These new costumes are seriously great. Balrog and Dee Jay probably have the some of the coolest costumes but best in show goes to Cammy's Bison cosplay.

Its only for three characters, but if you pick the 10th color for the alternate costume, it makes part of the costume change! This is something I'd like for you all to discover in-game, so we'll just leave it at that..................i am betting that this is for akuma honga and gouken they are the ones that have the rope bows maybe it will get rid of them????????
