With the new year is upon us, it's a good time to take a look back at the NES title Street Fighter 2010: The Final Fight.
How this game ended up with such a name, yet had almost nothing in common with either the Street Fighter or Final Fight franchises is a bit of a mystery. Probably some marketing guy at Capcom thought they could slap this name on any random title the company threw out there to generate extra sales and publicity.
And considering that it's been almost 20 years since it was released and I'm talking about it right now — I can't say that this was a bad strategy. :P
While the main character in this title was a human-cyborg named Ken, the game was much more along the lines of the Mega Man series than either Street Fighter or Final Fight.
Looking back, there wasn't much that was remarkable about Street Fighter 2010 though, besides it's cliched writing and unintentionally humorous cut scenes.
Still, it's fun to check out one of the offshoots of the Street Fighter franchise that was released by Capcom. For those of you who want a little action, here's a speed run that goes through a solid portion of the game.
